Christmas: The Untold Story

An interesting article from http://www.gnmagazine.org/ about Christmas. This follows this Patriotic take on this topic.  For a free magazine subscription click HERE! or call 1-888-886-8632.

People almost everywhere observe Christmas. But how did Christmas come to be observed? How did the customs and practices associated with Christmas make their way into traditional Christianity's most popular holiday?

Did you know December 25 has a checkered past, a long and contentious history? This should come as no surprise given that Christmas and many of its popular customs and trappings are nowhere set forth in the Bible.

Our Creator's view of this popular holiday is ignored or not even considered by most people. Yet His perspective should be our main consideration. Let's examine the history of Christmas and compare it with God's Word, rather than our own ideas and experiences, to discover His opinion regarding this nearly universal holiday.

Historians tell us the Christmas celebration came from questionable origins. William Walsh (1854-1919) summarizes the holiday's origins and practices in his book The Story of Santa Klaus: "We remember that the Christmas festival ... is a gradual evolution from times that long antedated the Christian period ... It was overlaid upon heathen festivals, and many of its observances are only adaptations of pagan to Christian ceremonial" (1970, p. 58).

How could pagan practices become part of a major church celebration? What were these "heathen festivals" that lent themselves to Christmas customs over the centuries?

The ancient origins of Christmas customs

During the second century B.C., the Greeks practiced rites to honor their god Dionysus (also called Bacchus). The Latin name for this celebration was Bacchanalia. It spread from the Greeks to Rome, center of the Roman Empire.

"It was on or about December 21st that the ancient Greeks celebrated what are known to us as the Bacchanalia or festivities in honor of Bacchus, the god of wine. In these festivities the people gave themselves up to songs, dances and other revels which frequently passed the limits of decency and order" (Walsh, p. 65).

Because of the nocturnal orgies associated with this festival, the Roman Senate suppressed its observance in 186 B.C. It took the senators several years to completely accomplish this goal because of the holiday's popularity.

Suppressing a holiday was unusual for the Romans since they later became a melting pot of many types of gods and worship. Just as the Romans assimilated culture, art and customs from the peoples absorbed into their empire, they likewise adopted those peoples' religious practices.

In addition to the Bacchanalia, the Romans celebrated another holiday, the Saturnalia, held "in honor of Saturn, the god of time, [which] began on December 17th and continued for seven days. These also often ended in riot and disorder. Hence the words Bacchanalia and Saturnalia acquired an evil reputation in later times" (p. 65).

The reason for the Saturnalia's disrepute is revealing. In pagan mythology Saturn was an "ancient agricultural god-king who ate his own children presumably to avoid regicide [being murdered while king]. And Saturn was parallel with a Carthaginian Baal, whose brazen horned effigy contained a furnace into which children were sacrificially fed" (William Sansom, A Book of Christmas, 1968, p. 44).

Notice the customs surrounding the Saturnalia: "All businesses were closed except those that provided food or revelry. Slaves were made equal to masters or even set over them. Gambling, drinking, and feasting were encouraged. People exchanged gifts, called strenae, from the vegetation goddess Strenia, whom it was important to honor at midwinter ... Men dressed as women or in the hides of animals and caroused in the streets. Candles and lamps were used to frighten the spirits of darkness, which were [considered] powerful at this time of year. At its most decadent and barbaric, Saturnalia may have been the excuse among Roman soldiers in the East for the human sacrifice of the king of the revels" (Gerard and Patricia Del Re, The Christmas Almanac, 1979, p. 16).

Winter-solstice celebrations

Both of these ancient holidays were observed around the winter solstice — the day of the year with the shortest period of daylight. "From the Romans also came another Christmas fundamental: the date, December 25. When the Julian calendar was proclaimed in 46 C.E. [A.D.], it set into law a practice that was already common: dating the winter solstice as December 25. Later reforms of the calendar would cause the astronomical solstice to migrate to December 21, but the older date's irresistible resonance would remain" (Tom Flynn, The Trouble With Christmas, 1993, p. 42).

On the heels of the Saturnalia, the Romans marked December 25 with a celebration called the Brumalia. Bruma is thought to have been contracted from the Latin brevum or brevis, meaning brief or short, denoting the shortest day of the year.

Why was this period significant? "The time of the winter solstice has always been an important season in the mythology of all peoples. The sun, the giver of life, is at its lowest ebb. It is [the] shortest daylight of the year; the promise of spring is buried in cold and snow. It is the time when the forces of chaos that stand against the return of light and life must once again be defeated by the gods. At the low point of the solstice, the people must help the gods through imitative magic and religious ceremonies. The sun begins to return in triumph. The days lengthen and, though winter remains, spring is once again conceivable. For all people, it is a time of great festivity" (Del Re, p. 15).

During the days of Jesus' apostles in the first century, the early Christians had no knowledge of Christmas as we know it. But, as a part of the Roman Empire, they may have noted the Roman observance of the Saturnalia while they themselves persisted in celebrating the customary "feasts of the Lord" (listed in Leviticus 23).

The Encyclopaedia Britannica tells us that "the first Christians ... continued to observe the Jewish festivals, though in a new spirit, as commemorations of events which those festivals had foreshadowed" (11th edition, Vol. 8, p. 828, "Easter").

Over the following centuries, new, nonbiblical observances such as Christmas and Easter were gradually introduced into traditional Christianity. History shows that these new days came to be forcibly promoted while the biblical feast days of apostolic times were systematically rejected. "Christmas, the [purported] festival of the birth of Jesus Christ, was established in connection with a fading of the expectation of Christ's imminent return" (Encyclopaedia Britannica, 15th edition, Macropaedia, Vol. 4, p. 499, "Christianity").

The message of Jesus Christ and the apostles—"the gospel of the kingdom of God" (Mark 1:14-15)—was soon lost. The Christmas celebration shifted Christianity's focus away from Christ's promised return to His birth. But is this what the Bible directs Christians to do?

How the Christmas date was set

Gerard and Patricia Del Re explain the further evolution of December 25 as an official Roman celebration: "Saturnalia and the kalends [new moon, in this case of January] were the celebrations most familiar to early Christians, December 17-24 and January 1-3, but the tradition of celebrating December 25 as Christ's birthday came to the Romans from Persia. Mithra, the Persian god of light and sacred contracts, was born out of a rock on December 25. Rome was famous for its flirtations with strange gods and cults, and in the third century [274] the unchristian emperor Aurelian established the festival of Dies Invicti Solis, the Day of the Invincible Sun, on December 25.

"Mithra was an embodiment of the sun, so this period of its rebirth was a major day in Mithraism, which had become Rome's latest official religion with the patronage of Aurelian. It is believed that the emperor Constantine adhered to Mithraism up to the time of his conversion to Christianity. He was probably instrumental in seeing that the major feast of his old religion was carried over to his new faith" (The Christmas Almanac, 1979, p. 17).

Although it is difficult to determine the first time anyone celebrated December 25 as Christmas, historians are in general agreement that it was sometime during the fourth century.

This is an amazingly late date. Christmas was not observed in Rome, the capital of the empire, until about 300 years after Christ's death. Its origins cannot be traced back to either the teachings or practices of the earliest Christians. The introduction of Christmas represented a significant departure from "the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints" (Jude 3).

European influences on Christmas customs

Although Christmas had been officially established in Rome by the fourth century, later another pagan celebration greatly influenced the many Christmas customs practiced today. That festival was the Teutonic feast of Yule (from the Norse word for "wheel," signifying the cycle of the year). It was also known as the Twelve Nights, being celebrated from Dec. 25 to Jan. 6.

This festival was based on the supposed mythological warfare between the forces of nature—specifically winter (called the ice giant), which signified death, vs. the sun god, representing life. The winter solstice marked the turning point: Up until then the ice giant was at his zenith of power; after that the sun god began to prevail.

"As Christianity spread to northern Europe, it met with the observance of another pagan festival held in December in honour of the sun. This time it was the Yule-feast of the Norsemen, which lasted for twelve days. During this time log-fires were burnt to assist the revival of the sun. Shrines and other sacred places were decorated with such greenery as holly, ivy, and bay, and it was an occasion for feasting and drinking.

"Equally old was the practice of the Druids, the caste of priests among the Celts of ancient France, Britain and Ireland, to decorate their temples with mistletoe, the fruit of the oak-tree which they considered sacred. Among the German tribes the oak-tree was sacred to Odin, their god of war, and they sacrificed to it until St Boniface, in the eighth century, persuaded them to exchange it for the Christmas tree, a young fir-tree adorned in honour of the Christ child ... It was the German immigrants who took the custom to America" (L.W. Cowie and John Selwyn Gummer, The Christian Calendar, 1974, p.22).

Instead of worshipping the sun god, converts were told to worship the Son of God. The focus of the holiday subtly changed, but the traditional pagan customs and practices remained fundamentally unchanged. Old religious customs involving holly, ivy, mistletoe and evergreen trees were given invented "Christian" meanings. We should keep in mind that Jesus Christ warns us to beware of things that masquerade as something they are not (Matthew 7:15; compare Isaiah 5:20; 2 Corinthians 11:13-15).

The roots of modern customs

Many of the other trappings of Christmas are merely carryovers from ancient celebrations.

"Santa Claus" is an American corruption of the Dutch form "San Nicolaas," a figure brought to America by the early Dutch colonists (Encyclopaedia Britannica, 11th edition, Vol. 19, p. 649, "Nicholas, St."). This name, in turn, stems from St. Nicholas, bishop of the city of Myra in southern Asia Minor, a Catholic saint honored by the Greeks and the Latins on Dec. 6.

How, we might ask, did a bishop from the sunny Mediterranean coast of Turkey come to be associated with a red-suited man who lives at the north pole and rides in a sleigh pulled by flying reindeer?

Knowing what we have already learned about the ancient pre-Christian origins of Christmas, we shouldn't be surprised to learn that Santa Claus is nothing but a figure recycled from ancient beliefs tied in with pagan midwinter festivals.

The trappings associated with Santa Claus—his fur-trimmed clothing, sleigh and reindeer—reveal his origin from the cold climates of the far North. Some sources trace him to the ancient Northern European gods Woden and Thor, from which the days of the week Wednesday (Woden's day) and Thursday (Thor's day) get their designations (Earl and Alice Count, 4000 Years of Christmas, 1997, pp. 56-64). Others trace him even farther back in time to the Roman god Saturn (honored at the

winter Saturnalia festival) and the Greek god Silenus (Walsh, pp. 70-71).

What about other common customs and symbols associated with Christmas? Where did they originate? "On the Roman New Year (January 1), houses were decorated with greenery and lights, and gifts were given to children and the poor. To these observances were added the German and Celtic Yule rites ... Food and good fellowship, the Yule log and Yule cakes, greenery and fir trees, gifts and greetings all commemorated different aspects of this festive season. Fires and lights, symbols of warmth and lasting life, have always been associated with the winter festival, both pagan and Christian" (Encyclopaedia Britannica, 15th edition, Micropaedia, Vol. 2, p. 903, "Christmas").

"In midwinter, the idea of rebirth and fertility was tremendously important. In the snows of winter, the evergreen was a symbol of the life that would return in the spring, so evergreens were used for decoration ... Light was important in dispelling the growing darkness of the solstice, so a Yule log was lighted with the remains of the previous year's log ... As many customs lost their religious reasons for being, they passed into the realm of superstition, becoming good luck traditions and eventually merely customs without rationale. Thus the mistletoe was no longer worshiped but became eventually an excuse for rather nonreligious activities" (Del Re, p. 18).

"Christmas gifts themselves remind us of the presents that were exchanged in Rome during the Saturnalia. In Rome, it might be added, the presents usually took the form of wax tapers and dolls—the latter being in their turn a survival of the human sacrifices once offered to Saturn. It is a queer thought that in our Christmas presents we are preserving under another form one of the most savage customs of our barbarian ancestors!" (Walsh, p. 67).

When we see these customs perpetuated today in Christmas observance, we can have no doubt of this holiday's origin. Christmas is a diverse collection of pagan forms of worship overlaid with a veneer of Christianity.

Accommodating a pagan populace

How, we should ask, did these pagan customs become a widely accepted part of Christianity? We should first understand what a strong hold these celebrations and customs had on the people of those early centuries. Tertullian, a Catholic writer of the late second and early third century, lamented the fact that the pagans of his day were far more faithful to their beliefs than were the compromising Christians who were happily joining in the Roman midwinter festival that eventually evolved into what is now Christmas:

"By us [Christians], ...the Saturnalia, the feasts of January, the Brumalia, and Matronalia are now frequented; gifts are carried to and fro, new year's day presents are made with din, and banquets are celebrated with uproar; oh, how much more faithful are the heathen to their religion, who take special care to adopt no solemnity from the Christians" (Tertullian in De Idolatria, quoted by Alexander Hislop, The Two Babylons, 1959, p. 93).

It wasn't long before such non-Christian rites and practices were assimilated into a new church religious holiday supposedly celebrating Christ's birth. William Walsh describes this process and the rationalization behind it: "This was no mere accident. It was a necessary measure at a time when the new religion [Christianity] was forcing itself upon a deeply superstitious people. In order to reconcile fresh converts to the new faith, and to make the breaking of old ties as painless as possible, these relics of paganism were retained under modified forms ...

"Thus we find that when Pope Gregory [540-604] sent Saint Augustine as a missionary to convert Anglo-Saxon England he directed that so far as possible the saint should accommodate the new and strange Christian rites to the heathen ones with which the natives had been familiar from their birth.

"For example, he advised Saint Augustine to allow his converts on certain festivals to eat and kill a great number of oxen to the glory of God the Father, as formerly they had done this in honor of [their gods] ... On the very Christmas after his arrival in England Saint Augustine baptized many thousands of converts and permitted their usual December celebration under the new name and with the new meaning" (p. 61).

Gregory permitted such importation of pagan religious practices on the grounds that when dealing with "obdurate minds it is impossible to cut off everything at once" (Sansom, p. 30).

Tragically, Christianity never accomplished the task of cutting off everything pagan. According to Owen Chadwick, former professor of history at Cambridge University, the Romans "kept the winter solstice with a feast of drunkenness and riot. The Christians thought that they could bring a better meaning into that feast. They tried to persuade their flocks not to drink or eat too much, and to keep the feast more austerely —but without success " (A History of Christianity, 1995, p. 24).

Early contention over Christmas

In the beginning, Christians were opposed to Christmas. Some of the earliest controversy erupted over whether Jesus' birthday should be celebrated at all.

"As early as A.D. 245, the Church father Origen was proclaiming it heathenish to celebrate Christ's birthday as if He were merely a temporal ruler when His spiritual nature should be the main concern. This view was echoed throughout the centuries, but found strong, widespread advocacy only with the rise of Protestantism. To these serious-minded, sober clerics, the celebration of Christmas flew in the face of all they believed. Drunken revelry on Christmas! The day was not even known to be Christ's birthday. It was merely an excuse to continue the customs of pagan Saturnalia" (Del Re, p. 20).

The Encyclopaedia Britannica adds: "The [church] Fathers of the 2nd and 3rd centuries, such as Clement of Alexandria, Origen, and Epiphanius, contended that Christmas was a copy of a pagan celebration" (15th edition, Macropaedia, Vol. 4, p. 499, "Christianity").

The decision to celebrate Christ's birth on December 25 was far from universally accepted. "Christians of Armenia and Syria accused the Christians of Rome of sun worship for celebrating Christmas on December 25 ... Pope Leo the Great in the fifth century tried to remove certain practices at Christmas which he considered in no way different from sun worship" (Robert Myers, Celebrations: The Complete Book of American Holidays, 1972, p. 310).

Indeed, of all times of the year suggested as the birth of Christ, December 25 could not have been the date (see "Biblical Evidence Shows Jesus Wasn't Born on December 25").

Again, the idea of celebrating Christ's birthday on any date was initially problematic—to say nothing of celebrating it on a date derived from paganism.

"To the early Christians the idea of celebrating the birthday of a religious figure would have seemed at best peculiar, at worst blasphemous. Being born into this world was nothing to celebrate. What mattered was leaving this world and entering the next in a condition pleasing to God.

"When early Christians associated a feast day with a specific person, such as a bishop or martyr, it was usually the date of the person's death ... If you wanted to search the New Testament world for peoples who attached significance to birthdays, your search would quickly narrow to pagans. The Romans celebrated the birthdays of the Caesars, and most unchristian Mediterranean religions attached importance to the natal feasts of a pantheon of supernatural figures.

"If Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem, and his purpose in coming was anything like what is supposed, then in celebrating his birthday each year Christians do violence, not honor, to his memory. For in celebrating a birthday at all, we sustain exactly the kind of tradition his coming is thought to have been designed to cast down" (Flynn, p. 42).

Christmas: a banned celebration

In England "the Protestants found their own quieter ways of celebrating, in calm and meditation," while "the strict Puritans refused to celebrate at all ...The Pilgrims in Massachusetts made a point of working on Christmas as on any other day. On June 3, 1647, Parliament established punishments for observing Christmas and certain other holidays. This policy was reaffirmed in 1652" (Del Re, p. 20).

Even colonial America considered Christmas more of a raucous revelry than a religious occasion: "So tarnished, in fact, was its reputation in colonial America that celebrating Christmas was banned in Puritan New England, where the noted minister Cotton Mather described yuletide merrymaking as ‘an affront unto the grace of God'" (Jeffery Sheler, "In Search of Christmas," U.S. News and World Report, Dec. 23, 1996, p. 56).

The reason Christmas has survived and grown into such a popular holiday—being observed by 96 percent of Americans and almost all nations, even atheistic ones (Sheler, p. 56)—is because of economic factors (see "How Christmas Grew").

Christmas evaluated

We cannot escape that Christmas is rooted in ancient customs and religious practices that had nothing to do with Christianity and the Bible. Tom Flynn summarizes the issue: "An enormous number of traditions we now associate with Christmas have their roots in pre-Christian pagan religious traditions. Some of these have social, sexual, or cosmological connotations that might lead educated, culturally sensitive moderns to discard the traditions once they have understood their roots more clearly" (p. 19).

Originally envisioned as a way to ease converts' transition from heathen worship to Christianity, in more recent years the holiday's observance has been driven by economic forces. The Encyclopaedia Britannica observes that the traditional Christian holidays have "undergone a process of striking desacralization and—especially Christmas—commercialization. The Christological foundation of Christmas was replaced by the myth of Santa Claus" (15th edition, Macropaedia,

Vol. 4, p. 499, "Christianity").

Even with its failings, Christmas remains an entrenched tradition. Although some recognize the intrinsic paganism of the holiday, they believe people are free to establish their own days of worship. Others cling to the naïve and biblically insupportable belief that paganism's most popular celebrations have been won over by Christianity and therefore are acceptable to God.

Human reasoning aside, we need to consider God's opinion about such celebrations. We need to look into God's Word to see how He views mixing pagan practices and customs with worshipping Him.

Dream Act Amnesty Immigration Bill Risks 2012 Campaign Backlash

Dream Act Amnesty Immigration Bill Risks 2012 Campaign Backlash

The Democratic leadership's push for Congress to pass the Dream Act Amnesty today during the lame duck session has inspired Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) to take the unprecedented step of launching the groups 2012 campaign operations today!

"American voters just threw a historic number of politicians out of office for not listening to the public on issues such as illegal immigration," said William Gheen President of ALIPAC. "It is clear this group in Washington is hell bent on passing an Amnesty that will displace tens of millions of American workers and voters with illegal immigrants!"

According to NumbersUSA, 44 Dream and Comprehensive Amnesty supporters lost their seats in 2010, while no new Amnesty supporters were elected. Each departing amnesty supporter will be replaced with candidates who oppose Amnesty. Those departing politicians are still in office during the 'Lame Duck' session and are seeking to thwart the will of the American public, by trying to create millions of new Democratic voters before they leave Washington, DC.

ALIPAC is launching candidate and campaign assessment efforts today to determine which of the 31 members of the US Senate, and all of the US Congress, support or oppose Dream Act Amnesty so that voter education efforts can begin for each race.

According to Rasmussen Reports polling from October of 2007, 59% of Americans oppose the Dream Act Amnesty concept while only 22% support it. This 3 to 1 opposition level could help defeat many incumbent members of the US Senate and House.

"Our goal this week is to put every lawmaker in DC facing reelection in 2012 on notice." said William Gheen. "If they pass this travesty on their way out the door, our goal will become to elect enough new members of Congress to reverse this legislation before the first few million illegal alien voters cast legal votes!"

ALIPAC's 35,000 national supporters are being provided with contact information for the 31 members of the 'Class 1' portion of the US Senate facing reelection in 2010. Volunteers will be calling these targeted senators and every member of Congress asking them to make their position on the Dream Act Amnesty clear in opposing the measure.

ALIPAC has played a role in helping to defeat the Dream Act Amnesty legislation on six prior occasions.

"The 2012 campaigns and elections begin today," said William Gheen of ALIPAC. "We are going to throw another large group of Amnesty supporters out of office in 2012 because this new vote on the Dream Act makes it clear that Washington is still not listening."

Passage of the Dream Act Amnesty would create a new voting block of over 3 million predominantly Hispanic and Democratic voters who would in turn push for full Comprehensive Amnesty increasing this new voting block's size to close to 20 million new illegal immigrant voters.

Thus, the borders of the United States and any hopes of future immigration enforcement would be destroyed to the dismay of the dis-empowered American populace.

The American Immigration Council’s Irrelevant “Truths” About The DREAM Act

An interesting post from http://www.vdare.com/ about DREAM ACT myths. The American Immigration Council’s Irrelevant “Truths” About The DREAM Act

[Paul Nachman]
There was a Cold War joke about the Soviet press reporting the outcome of a two-man foot-race between a Soviet citizen and an American: “The Soviet runner finished right behind the winner, while the American finished next-to-last.”

That old chuckle popped into my mind upon reading Dispelling DREAM Act Myths, issued on November 23, 2010 by the Immigration Policy Center, which is the research and policy arm of the American Immigration Council [AIC].

(The AIC, in turn, seems to have an unspoken, but organic, relationship to the American Immigration Lawyers Association, since the two organizations occupy suites 200 and 300, respectively, at a common address in Washington, DC. Their phone numbers also differ by 100, so to speak. The AIC’s mission statement includes this: “The American Immigration Council believes that the dignity of the individual knows no boundary.” Whatever that means.)

According to all predictions, starting Monday, November 29 immigration-sanity patriots will once again have to man the anti-mass-amnesty barricades against the DREAM Act, the most dangerous immigration-related legislative threat to the American future since the several mass-amnesty attempts of 2006-7. So it’s vital to know what the forces of national dissolution like the AIC are serving up as talking points about DREAM for their allies.

The AIC’s November 23rd “dispelling myths” paper deals with nine “myths.” Here’s an example:

“Myth: The DREAM Act allows undocumented students to pay cheaper tuition than citizens.

Fact: The DREAM Act gives states the option to offer in-state tuition to students registered under DREAM, but it does NOT guarantee cheaper tuition. At most, the DREAM Act allows undocumented students to access the same benefits as their peers. The DREAM Act allows undocumented students to access in-state tuition, but only if they would otherwise qualify for such tuition, and if state law permits undocumented students to receive in-state tuition.”

(Italics in original)

So the AIC’s rebuttal to this “myth,” while literally correct, evades the larger point: illegal-alien students will be paying college tuition at in-state rates, while their American-citizen “peers” will have to pay full freight if they hail from a different state.

Another example:

“Myth: The DREAM Act will spur more illegal immigration because it rewards undocumented youth.

Fact: Programs like the DREAM Act, which have clear cut-off dates, offer no incentives for more illegal immigration. In order to qualify for the DREAM Act, a student must have entered the United States before the age of 16 and have lived in the U.S. for at least five years before the date of enactment. Economic conditions have far more impact on illegal immigration than specific pieces of legislation.”

Well, yes, for eligibility, DREAM’s applicants must have been continuously present in the U.S. for at least five years immediately preceding the date of DREAM’s enactment, and such aliens must have been no older than 16 when they entered the U.S.. That would be a “cut-off date”, alright.

But, as the bill-clarifiers at NumbersUSA point out (see the sheets of relevant facts they’ve issued, linked below), there’s no requirement in DREAM “that an amnesty applicant produce either documentation or any other evidence that the individual actually satisfies the criteria.”

So what’s to stop an alien from slithering into our country well after DREAM is enacted and still claiming DREAM eligibility some months or years down the road?

As a practical matter, nothing. And if you think word of this giant loophole won’t be trumpeted along immigrant networks back to their countries of origin, thereby encouraging further illegal entries, then you haven’t been paying attention all these years.

Last example:

“Myth: The DREAM Act will result in a mass amnesty.

Fact: The DREAM Act is not an amnesty. No one will automatically receive a green card. To legalize, individuals have to meet stringent eligibility criteria: they must have entered the United States before age 16; must have been here for five years or more; must not have committed any major crimes; must graduate from high school or the equivalent; and must complete at least two years of college or military service. Eligible students must first obtain conditional residency and complete the requirements before they can obtain a green card—a process that will take years. Not all immigrants who came as young children will be eligible to legalize because they will not meet some of these requirements.”

Oh yes, those “stringent” criteria for eligibility! In my view, the only one that might qualify as stringent is two years of military service. Anyway, all the supposed criteria are waivable by the Department of Homeland Security once they become too stringent, as the NumbersUSA folks point out.

What about the “It’s not an amnesty!” claim? That’s the usual hokum, of course. The DREAM beneficiaries get what they were after all along, without even a hint of a penalty. (Graduating from high school and attending college are punishments? Only if you’re with the AIC in grasping at straws.)

But the big enchilada: once the DREAMers naturalize as citizens, they’ll eventually be able to initiate chain migration of all their relatives, including their illegal-alien parents — i.e. the original criminals who brought them here .

You’ll note that the AIC’s myth-busting exercise about amnesty strategically includes nary a word about this blue whale in the room.

(By the way, what would be a good term for the up-to-age-30 DREAMer “youths,” themselves? “Anchor youths” seems appropriate.)

Torpedoing AIC’s remaining six myth-busting attempts about the DREAM Act is left as an exercise for the immigration-sanity reader.

To summarize: the AIC’s paper on DREAM Act myths encapsulates enough evasive, beside-the-point facts to say that the whole thing is a de facto lie—a la the Soviet triumphalism recalled above.

“DREAM,” by the way, stands for “Defense, Relief, and Education of Alien Minors.” Presumably the Patriot side could come up with a more pertinent description of DREAM that would yield the acronym “NIGHTMARE,”. But our efforts these days are better spent in substantive opposition.

So if you want to know more about the DREAM [sic] Act’s real import for Americans, check out the fact sheets put together by NumbersUSA. Their one-page PDF is here, and their four-page PDF is here.

These NumbersUSA fact sheets are several months old, so they’re not up-to-date with respect to a few microscopic tweaks that principal DREAM sponsor Sen. Durbin [D-IL] has recently made to DREAM, yielding S. 3963, the latest version of the bill [PDF; and blessedly short at only 20 pages -- what's the catch?? Oh, it's what I've written about above ...in part.].

But the NumbersUSA sheets are thoroughly up-to-date on the unchanging intrinsic horrors of the bill. Roy Beck’s November 23 comments about those tweaks are at http://www.numbersusa.com/

British Whites Predicted to Become a Minority in Britain

British Whites Predicted to Become a Minority in Britain

[Allan Wall]

If present trends (principally mass immigration and differential fertility rates) continue , whites are predicted to become a minority in the U.S. by 2050.

The American people never voted for this mass demographic transformation which is already changing our country. As a nation we never chose it, and our leaders weren’t forthright about it. The transformation has been foisted upon us and it’s a taboo subject unless you say it’s a great thing.

Meanwhile, our British cousins across the pond are undergoing a similar transformation. It’s one they never voted for either.

According to an article in the British media entitled

White Britons a Minority by ‘66, by Graeme Wilson, (the Sun, Nov. 18th, 2010):

WHITE British people will be in a MINORITY in their own country by 2066, an expert warned last night.David Coleman, professor of demography at Oxford University, said they will make up less than HALF the population in just over 50 years.

And soaring immigrant birthrates mean white British kids will be in a minority of youngsters in the UK even sooner. The dramatic decline will be fuelled by record-breaking levels of immigration, coupled with the departure of thousands of Brits for a better life abroad, the population analyst said. Prof Coleman’s controversial claim will raise fresh questions about whether Britain can sustain the influx of hundreds of thousands of immigrants every year.

…Writing in Prospect magazine, Prof Coleman warned the huge numbers of foreigners landing on our shores will “transform” the UK. He said official projections estimate the UK’s population will rocket to 77 million by 2051 - and 85 million by 2083.

The expert went on: “On those assumptions the ‘white British’ population would decline to 45 million (59 per cent of the total) by 2051. “Were the assumptions to hold, the ‘white British’ population of Britain would become the minority after about 2066. It’s a milestone that would be passed much earlier in younger age-groups.” He added: “The US, by comparison, is now about 65 per cent white (non-Hispanic) and that group is projected to fall to 50 per cent by 2045.”

Even if the number of immigrants was cut so that new arrivals matched the number of Brits leaving, the “white British” population would still fall below 50 per cent by the end of the century.

Prof Coleman said this would “represent an enormous change to national identity - cultural, political, economic and religious”.

Tea Party Nation Rebuts Letter: We Want Action on Abortion

An interesting story from http://www.lifenews.com/ about the Tea Party's take on abortion. This follows this post analyzing the 2010 election. For more that you can do to get involved click HERE!

Tea Party Nation Rebuts Letter: We Want Action on Abortion

TAfter a letter signed by a handful of Tea Party activists made national headlines for its request to downplay social issues like abortion, a new letter signed by Tea Party Nation leaders goes the other direction.

The Tennessee-based tea party group led by National Tea Party Convention organizer Judson Phillips has a new letter and a list of action items that reflects the views of pro-life advocates.

Calling for the dismantling of the “liberal-political complex,” the new letter, addressed to Sen. Mitch McConnell and Speaker-elect John Boehner, calls for dismantling ObamaCare and its abortion-funding provisions and de-funding the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

“America is a conservative country. We expect conservative leadership,” the more than 185 tea party activists who signed this new letter say.

Last week a dozen Tea Party activists signed on to a letter to Congress urging them to abandon social issues and focus exclusively on economic matters. The letter was sponsored by the homosexual rights advocacy group GOProud.

Tea Party Nation says that letter came from “non-Tea Party, non-conservatives … trying to claim leadership of the Tea Party movement.” Full story at http://www.lifenews.com/

North Korea: Iran is Watching to See How We Respond

A very interesting post from http://bigpeace.com/ about North Korea and Iran. This follows this post about a proposal to pull jihadi videos from YouTube and this article  about the recent news about the former ban on offshore drilling which would encourage American energy independence. This is a key issue to prevent money from going to hostile countries such as Iran and Venezuela. For more that you can do to get involved click HERE!

North Korea: Iran is Watching to See How We Respond

Posted by Herbert I. London Nov 24th 2010

Secretary of Defense Gates noted any question about North Korea has only one response: “I don’t know.” There is indeed so little we know about this barbarian kingdom with nuclear weapons. Hence almost anything one does say is speculative.

As I see it, the nuclear facility recently disclosed is designed to be inflammatory. What it means is that North Korea can increase its supply of weapons and use them as negotiating instruments. Since there is nothing of value in North Korea, since the economy is moribund, since the government cannot supply basic necessities for the population, nuclear weapons – at least the threat of deployment – is a negotiating wedge for foodstuff, oil and hard currency. By any measure, this is an extortion ploy.

In a curious way, the Chinese government is complicit. China has the ability to clamp down on this backward kingdom, but it averts its gaze. From a Chinese perspective North Korea is an effective pressure point on the United States and its allies in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan. What the stalemate with North Korea demonstrates is the relative ineffectiveness of U.S. diplomacy and the obvious fact that the U.S. is an unreliable ally, perhaps even an untrustworthy ally.

What the U.S. cannot deliver – a stable east Asia – emerging Chinese military prowess in the region may. In other words, China uses North Korea as a tool to promote its regional dominance and, in the process, undermine U.S. influence.

This strategy has its advantages for China at the moment, but it could backfire. If Japan uses North Korean sabre rattling and Pyongyang’s deadly artillery barrage on a South Korean island to dismantle Article 9 of its Constitution and start producing nuclear weapons, China’s military dominance could be challenged. Anti Chinese sentiment in Japan should not be underestimated.

North Korean gamesmanship and Chinese cleverness are proceeding down a dangerous path in which an escalation scenario is quite plausible. The world waits to see how this situation will unfold with baited breath and the Iranian regime watches with intense interest. What the U.S. does in North Korea – or doesn’t do – is regarded as a portent of the U.S. position on Iranian nuclear weapons as well.

The 2010 Thanksgiving Amnesty Massacre Planned‏

An interesting post from http://www.alipac.us/ about preventing the DREAM ACT or any other AMNESTY. This follows this previous post about it and this post which shows that there are 30,000 openly illegal immigrants in the border town of El Paso. On a related note, you can read about Miss Kentucky Latina here or an interesting article about Jessica Alba here. For more that you can do to get involved click HERE!

The 2010 Thanksgiving Amnesty Massacre Planned‏

We regret to inform everyone that the Democrats are planning an Amnesty Massacre of our nation to take place on the Monday following the Thanksgiving break. We believe that Pelosi and Reid plan to vote on the Dream Act Amnesty early on Monday November 29 when the press and public will be returning from the Holiday. It will be very hard for us to mobilize under these conditions.

ALIPAC has defeated the Dream Act Amnesty many times before and we are ready to fight and win again with your support! We had hoped that many of us could rest and recuperate after the brutal election cycle, but now we must swing into battle again!

3 ACTION ITEMS: PLEASE RESPOND QUICKLY AND STRONGLY

1. We must raise funds for this unexpected Amnesty challenge from Pelosi and Reid. ALIPAC will need to launch emergency measures to help defeat the Dream Act Amnesty as we have before. We need to raise about $10,000 before Monday Nov. 29. Please click on this link to donate right away at our secure donations link...

http://www.alipac.us/content-9.html

2. Please help our national press release reach good targets. Please read it and send it to your local media contacts and to your favorite national media shows. Please make sure every talk radio show you know of gets a copy.

3. Please call your members of Congress and each member of Congress in your state found on our contact list here at this link then proceed to call our 7 US Senate targets....

Call and tell a staffer this or leave a message and then try to send in a written version. You can be angry and assertive, but do NOT be over the top or threatening.

"No Dream Act Amnesty! Focus on Jobs for Americans! Enforce our existing immigration and border laws like most of you promised during the elections!"

ALIPAC's Congressional Contact List

http://www.alipac.us/ftopict-63874.html

Once you have called your state's members of Congress please focus on these seven Republican US Senators that the Democrats are working on to vote for the Dream Act Amnesty.

WARNING: The Democrats only need one or two of these to vote with them to PASS AMNESTY.

All ALIPAC National Supporters Please Call and Write these 7 Senators

You're winning on amnesty -- don't lose it now‏

An interesting post from http://www.numbersusa.com/ about preventing the DREAM ACT or any other AMNESTY.  This follows this post about Immigration Enforcement groups and this post  which shows that there are 30,000 openly illegal immigrants in the border town of El Paso. On a related note, you can read about Miss Kentucky Latina here or an interesting article about Jessica Alba here. For more that you can do to get involved click HERE!

You're winning on amnesty -- don't lose it now‏

Yes, we really do need more phone calls before Thanksgiving. See the list below of the Senators who most need to hear from you because their votes are still up for grabs.

HERE'S OUR SENATE WHIP COUNT OF DREAM AMNESTY VOTE

SEE SENATORS WHO MOST NEED PHONE CALLS TODAY

Your outpouring of phone calls and faxes these past 12 days has pushed the expected NO votes to the point that we think if the vote were held today that we'd have the 41 votes needed to kill DREAM with a fillibuster.

Hooray for you!

But the opposition is changing the bill by softening some of its most egregious aspects. You have done such a good job of pointing out loopholes that the amnesty sponsors have introduced new versions of DREAM that:

reduce the maximum age from 35 to 30

eliminate the section rewarding illegal aliens with in-state tuition

Even these two concessions don't go far enough, and there are many more problems with the bill besides those two.

But we don't yet know how many of the Senators who currently are whipped as being NO votes -- as well as "Unannounced" Senators -- might switch to YES if the DREAM sponsors keep narrowing the amnesty.

The other side is using its vast war chest of funds to pay for special phoning campaigns pushing YES votes.

We desperately need your phone calls today. Thanks. (Remember that the Senators are back home this week, so make the phone calls to their staffers back in the home state offices.)

To get talking points for your own Senators and to report what you hear back to us, be sure to go to your NumbersUSA Action Board and look at your Phone Action Notes.

ACTION 1 -- 'Undecideds' are the priority

We need at least 4 of these 14 to vote NO. (The amnesty folks have a steeper hill to climb and need 11 of the 14 to vote YES.) But because there are a few wish-washy Senators among our NO list, we should aim to get at least 6 of these Undecideds. Please help.

Although many of these seem like they are leaning NO or ought to be a NO vote, there has to be a reason why they have chosen to remain publicly Undecided. The reason is unlikely to be a good one.

Most of these Undecided Senators are from small to medium sized states. If you live in the region of any of them, please call.

ALASKA

Sen. Lisa Murkowski She goes back and forth on amnesties. Did her scare in almost losing her seat make her a little more attentive on this kind of thing? Too often in the past, she has seemed to trade her vote FOR open borders to get some kind of pork barrel for the state. Will she be different this time?

Anchorage: 907-271-3735

Fairbanks: 907-456-0233

Ketchikan: 907-225-6880

Wasilla: 907-376-7665

Kenai: 907-283-5808

KANSAS

Sen. Sam Brownback He voted YES on the DREAM amnesty back in 2007. But he remains uncommited this time in public. He was just elected governor. Help him see that a YES vote now would immediately hurt his approval ratings.

Topeka: 785-233-2503

Wichita: 316-264-8066

Overland Park: 913-492-6378

Garden City: 620-275-1124

Pittsburg: 620-231-6040

LOUISIANA

Sen. Mary Landrieu She has generally voted with US, especially as she faced tough re-election in 2008. She falsely was reported last week as coming out as a YES. But why is she remaining Uncommitted?

New Orleans: 504-589-2427

Baton Rouge: 225-389-0395

Shreveport: 318-676-3085

Lake Charles: 337-436-6650

MAINE

Sen. Susan Collins She voted YES in 2007. But her statements this week lean toward NO. You have driven her to the brink of a good decision; help her do it right.

Portland: 207-780-3575

Augusta: 207-622-8414

Bangor: 207-945-0417

Lewiston: 207-784-6969

Caribou: 207-493-7873

Biddeford: 207-283-1101

Sen. Olympia Snowe She voted YES in 2007. But she is up for re-election in 2012. She has seen some other ensconced high-seniority Republicans nearly lose or lose to Primary challengers this year. A vote for amnesty now could make her a real target. It is a good sign that she hasn't declared herself a YES yet.

Portland: 207-874-0883

Augusta: 207-622-8292

Bangor: 207-945-0432

Auburn: 207-786-2451

Biddeford: 207-282-4144

Presque Isle: 207-764-5124

MICHIGAN

Sen. Debbie Stabenow When she was coming up for re-election in 2006, she voted with us. But after winning, she voted YES on the DREAM Amnesty in 2007. Now, she is a Democrat coming up for another election in 2012 after big Republican gains in Michigan in the 2010 election. She is obviously conflicted and afraid to reveal either way. How does she tell Michigan's unemployed in 2012 that she voted to give millions more work permits to illegal aliens?

Detroit: 313-961-4330

Grand Rapids: 616-975-0052

East Lansing: 517-203-1760

Traverse City: 231-929-1031

Flint: 810-720-4172

Marquette: 906-228-8756

MISSOURI

Sen. Claire McCaskill She voted NO in 2007 and has been one of the more reliable pro-enforcement votes among Democrats. Missouri swung strong toward Republicans in the 2010 elections. So, why is she holding back on announcingt a NO now? She was one of the original co-sponsors of Harry Reid's placeholder amnesty bill in winter of 2009. She is very close to Pres. Obama. She is conflicted. Like others on this Undecided list, she probably hopes the vote doesn't occur so she doesn't have to anger either side of the issue.

Springfield: 417-868-8745

Columbia: 573-442-7130

Cape Girardeau: 573-651-0964

MONTANA

Sen. Max Baucus He was one of the few Democrats who voted NO last time. He has indicated he is leaning NO.

Helena: 406-449-5480

Billings: 406-657-6790

Bozeman: 406-586-6104

Missoula: 406-329-3123

Kalispell: 406-756-1150

Butte: 406-782-8700

NEBRASKA

Sen. Ben Nelson He has been one of our more reliable Democrats but he voted YES on the DREAM amnesty in 2007. He is facing huge battle for re-election in 2012. He has just come out with a statement indicating he is leaning NO, but it is ambiguous.

Omaha: 402-391-3411

Lincoln: 402-441-4600

NORTH CAROLINA

Sen. Kay Hagan Her statements indicate leaning NO, but they aren't clear enough.

Charlotte: 704-334-2448

Raleigh: 919-856-4630

Asheville: 828-257-6510

Greensboro: 336-333-5311

Greenville: 252-754-0707

NORTH DAKOTA

Sen. Kent Conrad One of few Democrats to vote NO last time and is leaning NO now. Up for re-election in 2012.

Fargo: 701-232-8030

Bismarck: 701-258-4648

Grand Forks: 701-775-9601

Minot: 701-852-0703

Sen. Byron Dorgan Our most reliable Democrat who voted NO last time. But he is retiring and perhaps has different senses of obligation. Why hasn't he clearly put himself in the NO column this time?

Fargo: 701-239-5389

Bismarck: 701-250-4618

Minot: 701-852-0703

SOUTH CAROLINA

Sen. Lindsey Graham One of the most pro-amnesty Republicans. But he has said amnesties have to be linked to tough new enforcement. South Carolinians have thought he was impossible to budget, but their constant complaints to him on immigration seem to have helped him step away from pushing for a blanket amnesty earlier this year.

Columbia: 803-933-0112

Greenville: 864-250-1417

Pendleton: 864-646-4090

Mount Pleasant: 843-849-3887

Florence: 843-669-1505

Rock Hill: 803-366-2828

WEST VIRGINIA

Sen. Joe Manchin This Democrat is replacing the always-anti-amnesty Sen. Byrd. Manchin's statements indicate he is leaning NO. Time to get a commitment to what thre people of his state overwhelmingly want.

Washington, D.C.: 202-224-3954

ACTION 2 -- Up for re-election in 2012 but still say they'll vote YES on amnesty (you can change some of these)

With the anti-incumbent mood widely expected to continue through 2012, these Senators need to be reminded what a great liability a pro-amnesty vote will be in their next election.

At the least, they need to see that there is political pain to suffer for voting to give out millions of work permits to illegal aliens. We especially need help from neighbors to get the calls up for the small states of Delaware, Rhode Island and Vermont.

THANKS FOR CALLING,

Corruption in the Texas Legislature

A very interesting post from http://www.redstate.com/  about Texas Speaker Joe Straus. This follows this previous post about him and this article about the recent news about ending the ban on offshore drilling which would encourage American energy independence This is a key issue to prevent money from going to hostile countries such as Iran and Venezuela. Corruption

Posted by Erick Erickson (Profile)

I know some of you are a bit perplexed about why I, a guy in Georgia, keep writing about Joe Straus, a liberal elitist in Texas.

It is very simple really. Texas is going to make big gains in the census and pick up some congressional districts. Conservatives across the country must be concerned that the man who will have the heaviest hand in drawing those lines is 100% NARAL supported and ridiculously corrupt.

We must fight at the state level here to help the conservative cause nationally in the 2012 elections.

And what happened late yesterday should concern everyone — really concern everyone, not to mention embarrass all the Texans.

As I previously mentioned, Straus sent out his loyal lieutenant Larry Phillips to tell a number of Republican State House members that if they did not vote for Straus, Straus would draw them out of their districts.

When the accusation was made, Straus referred the matter to the House Ethics Committee. Larry Phillips just so happens to be Vice Chair of that committee.

Here is where it gets fun.

Phillips did not recuse himself until after he was named as the man making the threats for Straus.

Rep. Bryan Hughes testified under oath that Phillips had made the threats.

Phillips was then called to testify and would not testify under oath. Phillips denied everything.

In other words, Hughes was willing to swear an oath and risk jail if he lied. Phillips refused to swear an oath so that, because he lied, nothing could happen to him.

And then the Speaker’s investigative committee declined to take any action.

America's Declaration of Dependence on Divine Providence

An interesting article from http://www.gnmagazine.org/ about something you might want to consider on Thanksgiving! This follows this post  about coveting.  For a free magazine subscription click HERE! or call 1-888-886-8632.

America's Declaration of Dependence on Divine Providence

A commentary by John Miller

President of Superb Industries

America's Declaration of Independence is as much a declaration of dependence on Divine Providence as it is a declaration of independence from an oppressive monarch.

The Continental Congress in its first session on September 6, 1774 passed this resolution: "Resolved, that the Rev. Mr. Duché be desired to open Congress tomorrow morning with prayer, at Carpenter's hall, at nine o'clock."

Prayer for divine favor

Duché's prayer on September 7, 1774 pleaded: "O Lord! our heavenly Father, high and mighty, King of kings, and Lord of lords, who dost from thy throne behold all the dwellers on earth, and reignest with power supreme and uncontrolled over all kingdoms, empires, and governments. Look down in mercy, we beseech thee, on these our American States who have fled to thee from the rod of the oppressor, and thrown themselves on thy gracious protection, desiring to be henceforth dependent only on thee … All this we ask in the name, and through the merits of Jesus Christ thy Son and our Savior. Amen" (Thatcher's Military Biography, p. 121).

The Declaration of Independence begins by attributing the States' "entitlement" to become a "separate and equal station" to "the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God" and concludes with an appeal "to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of [their] intentions."

While it certainly declares the founding fathers' intent "to dissolve the political bands" to a despotic British sovereign and lists his "repeated injuries and usurpations," it does so on the basis of "unalienable rights" and principles endowed to them by Almighty God; their Creator, the Supreme Judge of the world.

The major founding personalities—despite their varying individual beliefs regarding religious matters—acknowledge that the success of their seemingly fragile endeavor rested firmly on the grace of God.

Confirmed by Franklin and Adams

Benjamin Franklin stated in a speech to the Continental Convention: "We have been assured, Sir, in the Sacred Writings, that 'except the Lord build the House they labor in vain who build it.' I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring Aid, we shall succeed in this political Building no better than the Builders of Babel" (The Works of Benjamin Franklin, by John Bigelow, p. 377).

John Adams confirms decades later in an 1813 letter to Thomas Jefferson the original intent of those formative years: "The general Principles, on which the Fathers Achieved Independence, were the only Principles in which that beautiful Assembly of young Gentlemen could Unite…Now I will avow, that I then believed, and now believe, that those general Principles of Christianity, are as eternal and immutable, as the Existence and Attributes of God" (John Adams to Thomas Jefferson, June 28th, 1813, from Quincy in The Adams-Jefferson Letters).

The founders' unabashed declaration of dependence on Divine Providence both for the justification of their cause and for the success of their endeavor should give us pause to ponder 233 years later.

Will it last?

Are we still on the same course? Do we still perceive the need for God's guidance and blessings?

That the God who created the Universe has blessed our nation with the choicest bounties of heaven is a matter of historical fact. One can argue about the manifold faults of our nation's endeavors, but no one can dispute the historical fact that the United States of America has become the most powerful and influential nation in the history of man.

But can it last? Foreclosures on the American dream are rampant. Jobs have been exported by the thousands. Plant closings are common. Not only is it difficult to buy products made in America, it may soon become difficult to find companies that are owned by Americans.

Perhaps a business associate of mine from Pennsylvania said it best a few years ago in a discussion about some of our impending challenges. "Greed," he said, "will become our undoing."

Today's moral bankruptcy

But should this surprise us? In contrast to our founding fathers who thought it necessary to invoke the principles and favor of Divine Providence, we live in a morally bankrupt materialistic society that wants more for less yesterday and hopes to pay for it tomorrow.

As a nation we deny the existence of our Creator, worshipping instead an evolving creation. We have banned prayer from public schools, driven God from the public square, banished His Law for the courtroom and scorned His guiding principles.

Learn how and why America became the recipient of unprecedented divine blessings and why a very different future lies ahead. Simply request, download or read online our free, enlightening booklet, The United States and Britain in Bible Prophecy..

ENDORSEMENTS BY POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEES

An interesting post from http://www.numbersusa.com/ about Immigration Enforcement groups. This follows this post about North Carolina and this post  which shows that there are 30,000 openly illegal immigrants in the border town of El Paso. On a related note, you can read about Miss Kentucky Latina here or an interesting article about Jessica Alba here. For more that you can do to get involved click HERE!

ENDORSEMENTS BY POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEES THAT YOU MIGHT WANT TO CONTRIBUTE TO BECAUSE THEY SUPPORT IMMIGRATION-REDUCTION CANDIDATES

On the eve of national elections for every Member of the U.S. House of Representatives and a third of the Senate, many people are asking me about endorsements.

As you may know, NumbersUSA does not endorse candidates and does not operate a political action committee (PAC) that provides campaign contributions to immigration-reduction candidates.

But there are three PACs out there that do just that. So, I want to remind you again of those PACs and provide you with links to take a final look at what they are doing at the end of the campaigns, as well as their endorsements.

All three PACs rely heavily on NumbersUSA's incomparable tracking system of every immigration action taken by every Member of Congress, as well as our Candidate Comparison surveys that assess the immigration position of every challenger this election.

Here are the PACs and their websites:

ALIPAC (Americans for Legal Immigration PAC)

Team America PAC

U.S. Immigration Reform Political Action Committee

JIM EDWARDS IS NEW DIRECTOR

OF U.S. IMMIGRATION REFORM PAC

I would also like to take this opportunity to share some news about the U.S. Immigration Reform PAC, which has a new Director.

Jim Edwards has been a retained consultant to NumbersUSA's Capitol Hill Team since 2001. Jim's work with the PAC is totally separate from the legislative work for which he is paid by NumbersUSA. But it is good to have somebody at the PAC who is so familiar with the issues and with NumbersUSA's entire approach to immigration policy.

Jim is a national authority on immigration policy who served as Legislative Director to a member of the House Immigration Subcommittee and helped write parts of the landmark 1996 immigration law. He coauthored The Congressional Politics of Immigration Reform, which is the authoritative book on how immigration acts in the 1980s and 1990s were assembled and passed. And Jim's an able voice for the most economically just and morally defensible immigration policies. He's testified before Congress on several occasions, including on NumbersUSA's behalf.

I wanted to be sure to let you know of this latest news and to say that I'm very proud that Jim Edwards has agreed to serve as the new director of the U.S. Immigration Reform PAC.

Sincerely,

Roy Beck

Americans Storm Out of Durham City Council Meeting‏

An interesting post from http://www.alipac.us/ about  North Carolina. Americans Storm Out of Durham City Council Meeting‏

The illegal aliens won a round in the Durham City Council chambers where the council voted 5-2 to allow the police department to accept the worthless Matricula Consular cards, issued for a fee to illegal aliens in America from the collapsing Mexican government, as official ID.

Of course the illegal aliens and their supporters had to rig the meeting and exploit the system and cheat just like they did in Raleigh for the Community College access meeting when we showed up at 7am to find 50 illegal alien supporters already signed up by someone on the inside to speak!

Durham, NC is of national renown due to the Duke LaCrosse team scandal and is known for high crime levels, very left leaning politics, and a very large population of illegal aliens. In fact, Durham has a higher per capita crime rate than Los Angeles!

Approximately 25 Americans showed up to speak out against the city of Durham working with a foreign government to the detriment of American citizens, our jobs, wages, safety, and quality of life.

Unfortunately, once again most of the Americans who were aware of this meeting who share an aversion to illegal immigration stayed home. The illegal aliens are stronger than Americans because they show up for meetings like this.

Yet, those of us who are going to fight this invasion every step of the way showed up to do the very best we could, despite the apathy of our fellow countrymen and women.

Americans on our side should have been lined up around the block considering the media exposure prior to this event. Instead, there were 25 of us. About 12 from the city of Durham and the other 12 from other cities. One lady drove 4.5 hours to come speak out on our side.

The illegal aliens showed up as a mob as they always do. They were assembled at another location, instructed on how to act, and then herded in with their handlers using radios. They brought their small children for political effect and there were over 100 of them! They marched around the corner chanting Si Se Pueda which translates into (Yes we can steal your country you lazy Americans)

The radios they were using were broadcasting a local AM and FM Spanish language station. Radio station vans rolled up just like we saw in Concord, NC when the Mexican consulate took over our local high school, to aid illegal aliens with bogus id. One of the organizers had on a headset and was broadcasting live over the radio about the wonderful historic event he was witnessing of a large mob of his "Raza" marching into the Durham City Hall building.

While I do not speak Spanish, I could hear what he was saying over and over again Raza! Raza! Raza! (Our race! race! race!).

Univision was there along with several local TV stations. Only one of the three local stations wanted to talk to our side. Univision sent a team into Durham all the way from Miami, FL. They had called me on Friday and I explained that we no longer conduct interviews with the Spanish media.

They know this, yet I turn around outside the building while waiting hopefully for more American reinforcements to arrive, to find a Univision camera in my face with a woman asking to interview me. I told her that I do not interview with the Spanish media. She asked me why, while the camera was rolling with lights in my face. I explained it was because I would never get fair treatment by her company.

Yet, they got their camera footage of me of course and I'm certain that today my face appears up and down the Western Hemisphere with some lie about how I want to hurt brown people. Their goal is to broadcast my image with inflammatory rhetoric to put my life in danger and I know this.

But, I made the decision long ago that putting my life at risk for my freedoms and the freedom and security of all those I love in my nation, is a sacrifice many Americans make and have made in the past and it is something I am willing to do.

Inside the council chambers, more drama awaited us as the Mayor of Durham, Bill Bell, put on a real show. While he supports the Mexican illegal alien invaders, he did scale back his proposal to accept worthless Matricula cards in the face of rising public opposition.

We had to sit there and endure 20 minutes of awards and honors being handed to 'civil rights' groups that were formed with taxpayer grants in Durham, since 1998 to fight racism and 'white supremacy'. Now please keep in mind that when they say they are fighting 'white supremacy' they are not talking about fighting the minuscule elements that make up the remains of the KKK or Neo Nazis. They consider white supremacy to be a majority of Americans being white, which they are out to change at any cost to our liberties, existing laws, and the Constitution.

So we had to endure a bunch of political pagentry celebrating the anti racism efforts of Durham before the business at hand.

Then, when Mayor Bell started to address the issue of these Matricula Cards he said he had seen many emails sent in about this issue and while many of them had legitimate policy concerns about the card, many of them were down right racist.

Another Durham City Council member did confirm that emails of a racist nature had been received when he was interviewed right before me on the Bill Lumay show on WPTF on Monday afternoon. This council member opposed the Matricula cards. So both sides of the debate confirm that racist materials were received by the council members.

Now, what I do not understand is were these emails with the racist comments sent by actual racists opposed to Matricula cards being accepted? Are there racist Americans out there who are not only racist, but in the year 2010 they are stupid enough to put their racism on display for pro illegal alien politicians to use their comments against them? Are there people in America who oppose illegal immigration who are dumb enough to destroy any chance of effectiveness that their emails could have with needless racist language?

Is there even a full blown member of the KKK or Neo Nazis out there who does not understand that using racist language aids and abets the cause of illegal aliens? Perhaps there are racists who are dumb enough to help illegals in this way.

ALIPAC did not circulate any word of this vote in Durham until the day of the event so we know it was not our networks that inspired any racist emails. We do all we can to get people like that or people who don't know how to properly communicate with lawmakers away from our operations.

Perhaps the illegal alien supporters simply have activists who create fake email accounts and send in the racist materials. We have seen them lie, cheat, and rig the system against Americans every step of the way so I would not put it past them. Sure, real racists and dumb racists exist, but I believe a lot of the racism received by elected officials is manufactured.

In fact, we have documented illegal alien supporters trying to mimic racists here on our website by making posts that appear to be in support of ALIPAC provided by overt racists, but in fact the posts were proven to come from illegal alien Amnesty supporters.

Well, after primping and dressing to impress, and driving an hour, and signing up early to speak, there I sat with the other Americans waiting to speak.

Mayor Bell explained that he was going to see how many people wanted to speak before deciding how much time each person would get.

We found out after the meeting that our side, the side that opposes Durham accepting illegal alien Matricula cards, outnumbered the English speaking proponents of the measure by over 2 to 1.

That is why Mayor Bill Bell made the unexpected and previously concealed decision to disallow any person who was not a resident of Durham to speak!

By doing so, he reduced the number of those speaking out against his plan from 2 to 1 to a slight majority of speakers about 7 against and 5 for the Matricula acceptance.

I stood up immediately fighting the urge to yell 'V******V' and said "I'm walking out." instead. About ten others stood up with me and out we walked. For a second I though we should start humming "The Star-Spangled Banner" like the Delta's marching out of their probation hearing in the movie Animal House.

I shouted on the way out the door "You are part of North Carolina Durham!" others yelled "We voted you in we can vote you out!" someone yelled "So much for free speech in America!"

I really wanted to explain to the Durham City Council the fate of there Democratic local government allies in adjacent Chatham County. The three county commissioners in Chatham County, who many of you will recall voted to make Chatham County our state's first "Sanctuary County" for illegal aliens, all lost their seats in the 2010 elections.

That's right folks! Local North Carolinians organized and threw the illegal alien supporters in Chatham County out on their rumps this month and the same thing can happen in Durham, or any place in America where traitors side with invaders against Americans.

As we left the building, a big crowd of illegal aliens clapped and applauded our departure. Illegal aliens and their supporters are perfectly willing to destroy your American rights and to smile and celebrate the destruction of your rights.

For now, the illegals win this round in Durham. They are free to roam a major city using bogus ID issued by another nation. They will dig in deeper there and try to increase their numbers.

Those of us doing all we can, will go on to fight another day and we will fight until we win on your behalf or until we are destroyed by the illegals and their supporters. If that happens, all of you are next in line and whether you stood up and spoke out or not it will not matter.

If we fail to prevail, you will all find yourself without a nation, without defenses, and without any place left to run and hide from a growing angry mob that hates you; with an ancient genocidal rage that will one day manifest itself in your face or the faces of your dismayed, enslaved children and grand children.

I do hope that more of you will make a consious effort to do more as an active participant and contributor to the cause of saving America from the invasion which teeters on the verge of success or failure.

While so many of you have been great about sending email, faxes, and making calls, more of you must start to show up at meetings and events.

Many great groups and talk show hosts who are loyal to you and loyal to America spread the word about this meeting in Durham. I must warn you that if more of you do not organize and start responding soon, those talk radio shows and groups will no longer lead you in on events or they will no longer be on the air.

Power goes to those who get things done. Power goes to those who show up.

See you at the next one, and unending thanks to the 25 Americans who showed up for our side last night.

Sincerely,

William Gheen
