10 Years After Her Husband Painfully Starved Her to Death, We Must Never Forget Terri Schiavo

10 Years After Her Husband Painfully Starved Her to Death, We Must Never Forget Terri Schiavo

Opinion Wesley J. Smith   Washington, DC

Over at First Things, I reflect on the powerful societal divisions that our reactions to Terri Schiavo reveal. From, “The Great Terri Schiavo Divide:”

At the end of this month, Terri Schiavo will be ten years dead. But she is far from forgotten.
Everyone reading these words knows the story, and everyone has an opinion. What began in 1990 as a private tragedy—a vivacious young woman stricken in the prime of life with a severe cognitive disability—became a source of profound cultural division, as likely to spark debate today as when the case first broke into the public’s consciousness.

Who can deny it? As I note, Terri gets (inappropriately) caught up in the abortion debate, the equality/sanctity of life versus “quality of life” ethic, even the sexual revolution:
Debates over the sexual revolution and the meaning of marriage also became entangled in opinions about Terri’s fate. In the media, Michael is often identified simply as Terri’s “husband” who pursued a difficult course because that is what she would have wanted.
But it wasn’t nearly that simple. Prior to petitioning the court to remove Terri’s feeding tube, Michael began cohabiting with another woman with whom he had sired two children. Those who supported Michael often shrugged off his adulterous involvement as an understandable part of the process of “moving on.”
In contrast, those who opposed Terri’s dehydration believed that, by starting another family, Michael had effectively abandoned his marriage—meaning that he should have had no part in deciding Terri’s fate.
But I have another, undoubtedly heterodox thought about all of this: I think our collective conscience is bothered by her death.
terrischiavo7
Polls tend to show public support for the fatal outcome. But I don’t sense any peace about it. Indeed, I think our inner voices, the part of us that never lies, may harbor lingering doubts. Perhaps the reason we still react so viscerally to Terri Schiavo—why she remains an open cultural sore—is that our consciences are haunted by the enduring memory of her smiling face.
That is the real reason she will not go away. And I will not let it go.

HOW amnesty is funded in ways other than the DHS

An interesting article from www.numbersusa.com on HOW amnesty is funded in ways other than the DHS. This follows this post about the GOP revolting against its leadership on immigration amnesty. Remember, “Amnesty” means ANY non-enforcement of existing immigration laws! This follows this comment and this post about how to Report Illegal Immigrants! Also, you can read two very interesting books HERE.

A vote to fund the executive amnesty is a vote for the executive amnesty. That's the message Congress and the country needs to hear about the vote on House GOP spending bills that gave the White House the money it needs to implement it's executive amnesty!

Spread the word in all of your activism this week! Share the links, quotes, and excerpts below.
The GOP leadership's spending package enables:
  • The IRS to use billions of tax dollars to issue tax credits to unlawfully amnestied aliens;
  • The Social Security Administration to use tax dollars to issue Social Security numbers to unlawfully amnestied aliens, qualifying them for benefits;
  • The Department of Health and Human Services to use tax dollars to enroll unlawfully amnestied aliens in Medicare; and
  • The Department of Justice to use tax dollars to defend the President's unconstitutional amnesty against court challenges.

This plan forces candidates who ran against President Obama's executive amnesty to break their campaign promises. Rep. Mick Mulvaney of South Carolina expressed the frustration many Members have to the AP: Having said we're going to do everything we can to stop this -- and then to do nothing to stop it -- really hurts.
Breitbart reports that the GOP leadership's plan is beatable and highlights many efforts (from NumbersUSA, Eagle Forum, Heritage, Laura Ingraham, and CIS) to replace it with a better strategy:
...pass a short-term Continuing Resolution rather than a long term omnibus, and include language blocking funding for Obamas amnesty in it. If outgoing Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid can muster the votes to strip that language from the bill, or if Obama vetoes it after Reid fails to garner the votes, then the conservatives want the House to pass a short term CR until the new Republican congress, with GOP reinforcements, is sworn in in January. At that point, they'll target Obamas amnesty funding before he can get the program off the ground..."

Final Update on Border Bill for Now‏

An interesting article from http://www.teapartypatriots.org/ about the House Border Bill. This follows this previous post about it. Remember, “Amnesty” means ANY non-enforcement of existing immigration laws! This follows this comment and this post about how to Report Illegal Immigrants! Patriots,

Thanks for all the work you have done over the last two days. We are finally getting details about the final border bill that will likely be voted on this evening.

First we want to say that there have been some substantial changes to the bill since yesterday and it is all because of the hard work and dedication that you put into it.

The bill has some good fixes in some areas and some things that we think fall short of where they need to be, but the important part is that we stopped a really bad bill from passing yesterday.
  1. Good thing: Reps. John Carter/Robert Aderholt add language to strengthen the "Other Than Mexican" (OTM) problem. Basically this would allow illegal immigrants from countries other than Mexico to either leave immediately upon being caught or if they choose to stay they would be processed and removed just like Mexicans currently are.
  2. Better than it was yesterday: Instead of appropriating $197M to HHS, only $25M will go to HHS. This is in line with what the Whitehouse originally requested. The remainder will be available to border governors to help pay for National Guard deployment or to non-border state governors who want to send their National Guard to help.
  3. Not ideal, but better than nothing: The bill to deal with the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA) - aka the President's executive amnesty - would revert back to the original Cruz/Blackburn language which would essentially defund DACA, but it will still be brought up as a separate vote. This is still problematic because the Senate likely will not take it up.
  4. Bad thing: There is an issue with the fact that 40 temporary immigration judges will be appointed by the DOJ. This means that Eric Holder will have the authority to appoint these judges even though he has been found in contempt of Congress for stonewalling investigations into several scandals.

Overall, the fact that we stopped a bad bill and saw some substantial changes in the bill that will be voted on today is a good thing.

The fact that this bill doesn't do enough to stop Obama's executive amnesty and that it gives Eric Holder authority to appoint judges are not good. Also, the fact that the House Republicans are violating their pledge to allow 72 hours from the time the bill is introduced to the time it is voted on is not good.

The truth of the matter is that the Senate likely won't even vote on these bills and the White House has already said that they would veto them, so these bills will never even become law.

Now that we have given you the information, we urge you to call your Representatives and tell them your thoughts.

Thanks again for all of your hard work this week, it truly made a difference!

December Toolkit

December Toolkit Mini
December is the time of year when we get together with our families, reflect on the year past, and begin making plans for the coming year. During the holidays, many of us, understandably, take a break from politics and we focus on our families and other volunteer activities.
Politicians in Washington often use the month of December – while we are celebrating the holidays and enjoying time with our families – to pass unpopular pieces of legislation. You may recall that the Senate passed their version of Obamacare on December 24, 2009. Yes, they passed that abomination on Christmas Eve in 2009!
We can’t allow them to do that this year. Many Members of Congress have hinted that they will push their special-interest amnesty bill through while we aren’t paying attention. And, of course, Obamacare is continuing to be rolled out, despite the fact that Americans overwhelmingly dislike the law.
We’ve put together a very simple toolkit for this month. It includes some facts and horror stories about Obamacare so you will be armed with the truth this month. We’ve also included a variety of sample letters to the editor.
So, after you’ve finished your Christmas shopping and finished wrapping presents, please consider using a few of these elements in the toolkit.

Editorial: Executive Branch Scandals!

Editorial

Recently in the news there have been the Executive Branch scandals of the Benghazi Investigation, the IRS attack on TEA Party groups, the EPA e-mail scandal, the HHS advertising scandal, the DOJ AP e-mails scandal, and the EEOC Hosanna-Tabor Scandal, and a good source of this is www.HughHewitt.com .

Yet nevertheless, it can be considered that the Gang of Eight Amnesty is still chugging along according to www.Alipac.US , so are these scandals really hurting the Executive Branch?

While Scandals Grow, Immigration Bill Coasts Under Radar

House conservatives alarmed: “When we ignore the rule of law we become like the country many immigrants are fleeing," Gohmert said.

WASHINGTON – While the debate over immigration reform appears to have taken a backseat in the public’s consciousness with the number of White House controversies suddenly swirling around, it hasn’t escaped the attention of congressional conservatives who aim to kill it.

The Senate Judiciary Committee has completed two mark-up sessions on the Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act with a third scheduled for Thursday. The panel thus far has considered 67 of the more than 300 amendments offered without altering or changing its basic thrust – requiring undocumented workers to seek provisional legal status that allows them to work and an opportunity to apply for permanent residency after 10 years.

BILL STRAUB

May 15, 2013

pj media

That lack of change doesn’t sit well with Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), a panel member and an outspoken opponent of the legislation pieced together by a bipartisan group known as the Gang of Eight. Sessions declared he has no doubt that once they become aware of the scope of the legislation, “Americans’ opposition to the legislation will rise and that they will call on their lawmakers to do the same.”

“Americans believe in immigration but they believe in a reasonable flow of immigration that promotes assimilation and improved economic opportunity for both immigrants and citizens alike,” Sessions said. “It is perhaps the single issue in which both parties are most out of step with the people.”

Sessions offered an amendment that would have effectively capped the number of immigrants at 23 million over 10 years and placed a cap of 10 million on temporary workers — limiting the grants of legal status and work authorization to 33 million over the next decade. It failed 1-17.

“After today’s committee meeting there is no remaining dispute that the Gang of Eight’s proposal represents a staggering increase in the future flow of immigration — even as polling shows a majority of Americans believe current levels should be reduced,” Sessions said. “At a time when a record number of Americans are on welfare and have dropped out of the work force, our focus should instead be on helping struggling Americans return to the work force.”

Sessions and other conservatives are gearing up for what could be a protracted fight. On Tuesday, six House members declared their intention to mobilize against the legislation, maintaining that providing a pathway to citizenship for the estimated 11 million immigrants in the country illegally makes a mockery of the rule of law.

“When we ignore the rule of law we become like the country many immigrants are fleeing,” said Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas). “It leads to chaos. Ignore it and you disintegrate into the same type of chaos from which these people came.”

President Obama, who supports the legislation, is failing in his duty to “protect the nation and control its borders,” Gohmert said.

“We have to make sure we don’t get overwhelmed by people who want to destroy us,” Gohmert said, citing claims that radical Islamists are traveling to Mexico, blending in by assuming Spanish surnames and entering the U.S, undetected.

“We have an obligation in this country to make sure those who come in want to be a part of the greatest nation,” Gohmert said. “We have to first secure the border so only lawful people come in. Let’s secure the border and then we can work out an immigration package.”

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) said the U.S. can’t afford to open its borders to all comers. As it is, 620,000 to 1.05 million immigrants have been granted American citizenship in each of the past five years. Only those capable of becoming “net tax producers” who “generate more than they consume” should be admitted.

“No one else comes close to being as generous as America is with its citizenship,” Brooks said. “The immigration issue is not about whether America is compassionate and generous — we are. The immigration issue is about whether America has the financial resources to accept all of the world’s immigrants into America. There are hundreds of millions of foreigners who, if they could, would immigrate to America.”

Brooks also said he “can’t ratify illegal conduct with my vote” by providing those in the country illegally with a path to citizenship.

“American citizens who have elected me to office to the U.S. Congress have done so because I support the rule of law,” he said. “The American citizens I know from all backgrounds – they support the rule of law. And that means you do not sacrifice your principles for political expediency. That’s the wrong direction to go. That undermines what makes America a great country.”

On the other hand, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said a key consideration in negotiations over immigration reform is making sure “that the pathway to citizenship not be a false promise.”

To this point, Leahy said, the committee has worked in a bipartisan way to “resoundingly reject efforts to put up illusive preconditions that would be nothing more than obstacles to that reaching that goal.”

So the committee is moving ahead. In addition to the provision providing legal status to undocumented workers already here, the bill requires employers to implement the E-verify system to detect illegal workers, offers a new visa program for low-skilled workers and calls on the Department of Homeland Security to develop a $4.5 billion plan to gain effective control of the porous Mexican border.

On Tuesday, the committee adopted an amendment from Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the ranking member who opposes the bill, which requires the Department of Homeland Security to provide the U.S. Border Patrol with information about the status of student visas at all 329 ports of entry.

The provision, adopted unanimously, comes in reaction to information that an alleged accomplice to the Boston Marathon bombers had overstayed his student visa.

Hobby Lobby Forced to Change Health Insurance to Avoid Mandate Fines

An interesting story from http://www.lifenews.com/ about Hobby Lobby's health insurance. This follows this post about the abortion battle.  For more that you can do to get involved click HERE and you can also get a very interesting book HERE.

Hobby Lobby Forced to Change Health Insurance to Avoid Mandate Fines

Hobby Lobby, the Christian craft company, has been forced to alter its employee health insurance plan in order to avoid millions of dollars in fines each and every day it refuses to comply with the HHS mandate.

The mandate compels religious employers to pay for birth control and drugs that may cause abortions for their employees in their health insurance plan. Late Thursday, in a statement, Hobby Lobby attorney Peter Dobelbower said the company will shift the plan year for employee health insurance that will delay the implementation date of the plan from January 1, so it does not coincide with the HHS mandate. http://www.lifenews.com/2013/01/11/hobby-lobby-forced-to-change-health-insurance-to-avoid-mandate-fines/

Supreme Court Justice Won’t Block HHS Mandate for Hobby Lobby

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor has refused to act favorably on an emergency appeal Hobby Lobby stores filed to stop enforcement of the HHS mandate against it.

After a federal court denied a request to temporarily stop enforcement of the abortion pill mandate against the Christian-operated business Hobby Lobby, it took its HHS mandate lawsuit to the Supreme Court. Late yesterday, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor denied its request to block the mandate and the millions of dollars in fines it will be subjected to starting January 1 for not complying. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/12/27/supreme-court-justice-wont-block-hhs-mandate-for-hobby-lobby/

Hobby Lobby Appeals Decision Forcing It to Obey HHS Mandate

Hobby Lobby, a Christian-owned and run company, is fighting back against a judge’s decision siding with the Obama administration saying that it has the right to force it to pay for drugs for women that may cause abortions.

The privately held retail chain with more than 500 arts and crafts stores in 41 states filed a lawsuit against the Obama administration over its HHS mandate. The company says it would face $1.3 million in fines on a daily basis starting in January if it fails to comply with the mandate, which requires religious employers to pay for or refer women for abortion-cause drugs that violate their conscience or religious beliefs. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/11/21/hobby-lobby-appeals-decision-forcing-it-to-obey-hhs-mandate/

Ten Reasons the Pro-Life Movement is Winning on Abortion

An interesting story from http://www.lifenews.com/ about Pro-Life momentum. This follows this post about pro-life victories at the state and local level.  For more that you can do to get involved click HERE and you can also get a very interesting book HERE.

Ten Reasons the Pro-Life Movement is Winning on Abortion

by Fr. Frank Pavone
Washington, DC
LifeNews.com

We are closer to achieving our goal of winning the fight to end abortion and restoring protection to children in the womb than the mainstream media is reporting.

To help you see the truth of that statement and to inspire you to renew your commitment to the fight, here are ten signs that point to the fact that the end of abortion in America will come sooner than you may think. Of this much I am certain, we will not have to wait for the next generation to plan and carry out victory

celebrations. That will be our task.

This does not mean that you can relax or take anything for granted. Just the opposite, in fact.

The closer we get to victory, the harder the other side will fight to keep abortion legal and the more hostile they will become. Still, we now know the key weaknesses of the abortion movement … as well as the pro-life dynamics that the other side can do nothing to stop. So be of good cheer and stout heart! We have the devil of abortion on the ropes. And here are ten signs that point to our eventual victory.

Sign 1: The survivors

The surest sign of our ultimate victory is the strong and ever-growing involvement of young people in all aspects of the fight to end abortion. And if you ask them why they’ve joined our fight, they will tell you: “It could have been me!” In speaking up for the unborn, the youth of America are also speaking up for themselves. This is an awareness and motivation that abortion advocates can do nothing to stop. And as a result, our pro-life movement receives a new strength and motivation each day from these survivors.

Sign 2: The flow of conversions

Another reason for confidence is simply to look at the flow of conversions. In which direction does it go? It goes from pro-abortion to pro-life. There is, for example, an international organization of former abortion providers called the Society of Centurions. These men and women – to whom I have the privilege of ministering – once served as doctors, nurses, technicians, security guards, and other roles to operate abortion mills. Now they have repented of their killing and become pro-life. Some of them – like Dr. Bernard Nathanson and Norma McCorvey – have high-profile testimonies. But most of them try to get on with more normal lives in the privacy of their own communities.

Since when, however, have you heard of an organization of former pregnancy resource center directors who have repented of saving babies and are now pro-abortion? It just doesn’t happen. With the notable exception of politicians – individuals notorious for abandoning their principles in exchange for votes or praise from media elitists – the flow of conversions is in one direction … and that is from death to life.

Sign 3: I regret my abortion

Another clear sign of progress is the wave of women and men across the world who are speaking out about how they regret having their child killed by abortion. The “Silent No More Awareness Campaign” – a joint project of Priests for Life and Anglicans for Life – provides these women and men an opportunity to share their testimonies in public gatherings, before the media, in pulpits, and in legislative hearings. As Jennifer O’Neill, the campaign’s National Celebrity Spokeswoman

says, “Experience trumps theory.” These men and women are living testimony that abortion doesn’t work. Instead of “solving” a problem, abortion creates more problems of its own. Best of all, there is nothing abortion advocates can do to stop this tidal wave. In fact, it puts them in quite a dilemma. For decades now they have been saying, “Listen to the voices of women!” Now, if they practice what they preach, they hear those women’s voices repudiate the lie of abortion.

Sign 4: Few doctors … fewer mills

Over half of America’s freestanding abortion clinics have closed since 1993 … from over 2,000 at that time to roughly 740 today. That’s because, no matter how much money, political strength, and media access the abortion movement has built up, they have not succeeded in removing the indelible stigma that is attached to abortion. In fact, the abortion industry’s greatest fear is not that Roe v. Wade will be reversed. Rather, it is that abortion will remain legal but there won’t be any doctors to do it. About 86% of counties in America do not currently have an abortionist. Fewer and fewer doctors – even if they consider themselves pro-choice – want to perform the procedure. They consider abortionists to be the losers of the medical profession, and they are right. Abortionist Herbert Hodes summed it up in Glamour magazine in September of 1991 when he said: “That’s how the anti’s are going to win. They are going to win by attrition, because fewer and fewer doctors will perform abortions.”

Sign 5: Legal evidence mounts

In Constitutional history, the rights of groups that have been oppressed – such as African Americans, children, women, and workers – have eventually been vindicated. As Courts heard more evidence of the harm that was done to these groups, they reversed prior Court decisions. From slavery to workers’ rights to segregation to child labor laws, eventually the Courts get it right. Now it is time for the “embryonic moment” … the recognition that the rights of the Constitution apply to the unborn child. In various cases, the evidence of the unborn child’s humanity, as well as of the harm abortion does to women, is being introduced in court. And even if a particular court decision is not favorable, the evidence that is introduced into the record becomes material that future cases can invoke. As the body of scientific evidence continues to mount, one day in the not too distant future the Courts will be forced to recognize the personhood of the unborn child and accord him with the rights and protections of our U.S. Constitution.

Sign 6: Abortion research

Another motive for confidence is the growing mountain of medical, psychological, and sociological evidence that abortion harms women, men, and families. Websites like www.AfterAbortion.org  provide an excellent starting point for surveying this growing mountain of evidence. Most telling of all is the fact that even those researchers who identify themselves as pro-choice are coming to this conclusion … and publishing their research despite the objections and criticism of the abortion industry. This growing body of evidence is one of the ways that abortion will eventually destroy itself. The more abortion continues, the more it reveals itself as an enemy of the human family.

Sign 7: No more arguments

Another sign of victory is that the other side has run out of arguments. In the years leading up to Roe vs. Wade, abortion advocates assured everyone that legalized abortion would reduce child abuse, strengthen family life, and improve society. But all the evidence shows that after three decades of legal abortion, all these problems have gotten worse. Moreover, all the arguments from medicine, science, psychology, sociology, law, ethics, and religion support the pro-life view.

Finally, supporters used to call abortion a decision “between a woman and her doctor.” Now they say it’s a decision “between a woman and her God.” When abortion supporters run out of arguments, they appeal to God in order to end debate. We in the pro-life movement also appeal to God … not as the substitute for other arguments, however, but rather as their foundation.

Sign 8: Even in politics…

We even see evidence of pro-life progress in the political arena. Voters for whom abortion matters in their decision vote in favor of pro-life candidates by a two to one margin. Even the 2006 election shows this. In a political climate that was hostile to many pro-life candidates, the data shows that it was so for reasons other than abortion. Some 36% of voters said that abortion affected their vote. Within that group, 23% voted pro-life and only 13% pro-abortion. Voters’ behavior on the abortion issue continues to be an advantage to our pro-life side as surveys show that the intensity of motivation for the pro-life side is stronger. Opinion polls also show that newer, younger voters are more pro-life and want to see abortion eliminated or more highly restricted.

Sign 9: Legislation galore

The last several years have seen unprecedented legislative progress on behalf of the unborn child. Look at the evidence. On the federal level, for the first time, an abortion procedure – so-called “partial birth abortion” – has been declared illegal. The “Born-Alive Infants Protection Act”protects the unborn from being killed after a failed abortion. The “Unborn Victims of Violence Act” protects the unborn from acts of violence other than abortion. And on the state level, laws are in

place that have reduced the numbers of abortion. These include parental involvement laws, informed consent laws, and abortion clinic regulation laws. Our lawmakers are making progress!

CLICK LIKE IF YOU’RE PRO-LIFE!

Sign 10: Corruption uncovered

A key reason we are winning is that abortion destroys itself. The evil inner workings of abortion are being exposed for all to see … and as more and more crimes become visible, the abortion movement loses supporters. These crimes include medical malpractice, sexual abuse, injury and death that routinely occur in so-called “safe and legal” abortion clinics, doctors not sterilizing instruments, “anesthesiologists” who have no training in anesthesia, “abortions” committed on women who were not pregnant, falsifying medical records, and much more. What’s more, the abortion industry creates a safe haven for sexual predators. Details are available at

www.ChildPredator.com . Beyond the abuse of the patients, abortion clinics are rampant with violations of OSHA standards and other employment laws. A long list of details can be seen at www.ClinicWorker.com. What all this means is that the abortion industry is highly vulnerable to negative public opinion and to legal action having nothing to do directly with the legality of abortions. Clinics can be closed – and are closing – and abortionists being jailed for reasons having nothing to do with what people think about abortion … but rather for reasons related to malpractice, abuse, and other illegal activity.

The fundamental reason why we’re winning Above all else, the reason why we are winning the fight to end abortion is because we have already won! There is one among us who holds the keys of death and of hell. Jesus Christ is Risen from the dead! Although thought to be overwhelmed by the agents of death … He trampled death by His death. As a result, death has been robbed of its power. “O death, where is thy sting?” Because of Christ’s Resurrection, death no longer has the final word in the human story. Our final destiny is heaven … not the grave!

This means that the power of abortion – which takes more life than anything else – has also been broken. Our pro-life movement does not simply work for victory …

we work from victory! Victory is our starting point. We joyfully proclaim to the world that Christ is Risen, and that for this reason, we must choose life. We then work to apply that victory to every sector of society.

Despite Obama Win, Pro-Lifers Win Big at the State, Local Level

While most of the post-election analytical focus has been on the presidential campaign and Congressional losses, pro-life advocacy groups tell LifeNews they fared well when it comes to races for the state legislature.

In many cases most all of the candidates they supported and endorsed won and they say the results set up state legislatures to make more pro-life gains with bills that limit abortion — after two record years which saw abortion advocates complain tat more pro-life legislation was proposed and passed than in years prior. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/11/09/despite-obama-win-pro-lifers-win-big-at-the-state-local-level/

Exit Polling Data Shows Pro-Lifers Failed to Vote Pro-Life

Exit polling data from Tuesday’s presidential election shows the pro-life movement may have itself to blame partly as pro-life voters failed to either show up to vote in the election or did not support pro-life candidate Mitt Romney if they did.

Top 10 Reasons For Pro-Lifers to Vote for Mitt Romney

Top 10 Reasons For Pro-Lifers to Vote for Mitt Romney

Dear LifeNews.com Readers,

In the election between pro-abortion President Barack Obama and former Governor Mitt Romney, there is a wide chasm between the two when it comes to the concerns pro-life voters have about abortion.

Whereas Obama has crafted a lengthy pro-abortion record, with more than 240 anti-life actions and a zealous effort to keep virtually unlimited abortions in place for another 40 years, Mitt Romney has taken pro-life positions that should earn him the vote of every pro-life voter on election day.

Here are ten reasons why pro-life voters should vote for Mitt Romney for president.

1. Roe v. Wade: Because a federal Human Life Amendment to the Constitution is an extraordinarily difficult long-term prospect, overturning Roe v. Wade is the only real method of achieving legal protection for unborn children any time soon. When it comes to Roe v. Wade, Obama has repeatedly voiced his support for the infamous abortion decision while Romney has repeatedly said he wants it overturned.

2. Supreme Court: To overturn Roe v. Wade, we need more Supreme Court justices in the mold of Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas, both of whom have publicly made clear their desire to overturn the decision. President Obama named pro-abortion radicals Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor to the high court in his effort to keep abortions legal another 40 years. On the other hand, Romney assembled a team of pro-life, conservative legal heavyweights to advise him on legal matters — specifically on the right kind of judges he should consider should he become president. The co-chairman of the Romney Justice Advisory Committee is former Appeals Court justice Robert Bork, a prior Supreme Court nominee who is highly-regarded by pro-life and conservative voters for his legal acumen. The second member of the Romney judicial team is Harvard law professor Mary Ann Glendon, a pro-life heroine who is a former ambassador to the Vatican and well-respected by the Catholic community.

3. Obamacare: The Obamacare health care law President Obama signed contains absolutely no limits on abortion funding. Every pro-life group has confirmed that, once it is fully implemented, Obamacare will fund abortions and fund the Planned Parenthood abortion business. Romney has said he would push for repealing Obamacare and do so beginning on the first day in office by removing any funding or implementation he can via executive order that can be done other than its full repeal.

4. Obama's HHS-Abortion Mandate: The pro-abortion mandate in Obamacare has led to more than 100 lawsuits from Catholic and evangelical groups, colleges, and businesses that would be subjected to millions in fines if they did not pay for abortion-causing drugs and birth control for their employees. Obama's administration approved the mandate but Romney running mate Paul Ryan has said numerous times he would oppose it and get rid of it.

5. Vice President: Perhaps the most important personnel decision a president can make is naming a Vice President. President Obama chose pro-abortion Vice President Joe Biden, who had a lengthy pro-abortion record, has upset Catholics by saying he is faithful to Church teachings even though he supports abortion, and famously said he wouldn't second-guess China's one-child policy. In Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney has selected a potential Vice President with a 100% pro-life voting record and a sterling commitment to protecting unborn children. Ryan will be a key pro-life ally in the White House to ensure the Romney administration puts forth pro-life policies.

6.Planned Parenthood: President Obama has bent over backward to force taxpayers to fund the Planned Parenthood abortion business. He repeatedly refused to sign a bill in Congress to revoke its hundreds of millions in taxpayer funds and, on several occasions, he forced states to fund the abortion giant even after they approved legislation to de-fund it. Romney has repeatedly made it clear he will work to de-fund Planned Parenthood, saying, “I think I've said time and again that I'm a pro-life candidate and I'll be a pro-life president. The actions I'll take immediately is to remove funding for Planned Parenthood. It will not be part of my budget."

7. Mexico City Policy: The Mexico City Policy is a less-well-known method of revoking taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood. During his first week in office, Obama overturned the policy and sent tens of millions in tax money to the International Planned Parenthood organization to promote and perform abortions in other nations. One of the life-saving actions Mitt Romney will take immediately if he becomes president is to reinstate what is called the Mexico City Policy.

8. Pro-Life Bills: The House has approved several different pro-life bills that never made it through the Senate in part because President Obama steadfastly opposed them and lawmakers knew they would be vetoed if they reached the White House. Romney has committed to signing more pro-life bills that limit abortions and protect unborn children. "I will advocate for and support a Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act to protect unborn children who are capable of feeling pain from abortion," Romney said, for example. Should Romney win and Republicans take the Senate on Tuesday, pro-lifers expect that more federal pro-life laws will be approved.

9. UNFPA, Forced Abortion: In 2009, the Obama administration sent a $50 million check to the United Nations Population Fund. That’s the pro-abortion group that has been accused of supporting and working in concert with Chinese family planning officials pushing women into forced abortions. That will change if Romney is elected. Romney has said he would undo that funding, saying, "I will reinstate the Mexico City Policy to ensure that nongovernmental organizations that receive funding from America refrain from performing or promoting abortion services, as a method of family planning, in other countries. This includes ending American funding for any United Nations or other foreign assistance program that promotes or performs abortions on women around the world."

10. Abstinence, Stem Cell Research, International Abortion Promotion, Etc: If you spend some time looking through Obama's abortion record, you'll see the Obama administration promoted abortion and embryonic stem cell research multiple times, de-funded abstinence education and pregnancy centers, and promoted abortion worldwide. There are hundreds of things presidents can do to promote the pro-life agenda that don't receive considerable attention. On each of these items, pro-life voters can expect President Mitt Romney and important personnel in his administration will be approaching issues from a pro-life perspective.

What does the Bible teach about abortion?

An interesting article from http://www.ucg.org/  about abortion. This follows this post about Christopher Columbus. .  For a free magazine subscription or to get this book for free click HERE! or call 1-888-886-8632.

What does the Bible teach about abortion?

What does God say about unborn babies? Is abortion a sin?

Answer:

To answer these questions, let's first consider some background material. Today, most people only look to their own human reason instead of the Bible for guidance in this area. As you may know, the U.S. Supreme Court decision in 1973 (Roe vs. Wade) sparked a huge controversy. There is no issue since slavery that has so divided the population of the United States. The two opposing views on this issue are generally called "pro-life," meaning those who support the rights of the unborn, and "pro-choice" for those who say a woman should have control over her own body.

Many who favor allowing abortion have argued that abortions should be safe, legal and rare. Yet statistics show they are anything but rare. In the United States some 3,700 babies are aborted every day, amounting to over 1.3 million per year. Statistics also say that 93 percent of abortions occur not because of serious potential health problems or rape or incest, but because of social factors. The child is either unwanted or inconvenient.

The biggest area of debate in the abortion question is when life begins. Those who favor abortion might argue that it doesn't begin until sometime near birth, when the child could be viable on his or her own. Others point out that at the moment of conception a unique life comes into existence with a genetic code that contains everything that person will become—from height, size of feet and color of eyes, to factors such as whether he or she is predisposed to contract diabetes by age 50.

Growth and development after conception are rapid. Within 18 days a new heartbeat is detectable. At around three weeks, eyes, a spinal cord and digestive system are forming. At around a month and a half, brain waves can be detected. By about two months, fingers and toes are beginning to show and by the 18th week, the baby is moving and kicking.

While the Bible does not mention the word abortion, there are indications that God views the unborn as individuals. He told the prophet Jeremiah, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations" (Jeremiah 1:5Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

See All...). God indicates He knew Jeremiah as a person and designated him for a special job extremely early in the gestation period. This implies "personhood" and God expressly forbids murder in the Sixth Commandment.

Additionally, Job said this about other people, "Did not He who made me in the womb make them? Did not the same One fashion us in the womb?" (Job 31:15Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?

See All...). Job understood God to be at work in the process of human gestation in the womb. Elizabeth was in her last trimester when John the Baptist "leaped" for joy in her womb in response to Mary greeting Elizabeth (Luke 1:36And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.

See All..., 41-44).

God views human life as very valuable and the verses above indicate He views life as beginning at conception. So while He doesn't mention the modern issue of abortion in the Bible by name, these passages indicate that God would label abortion as a sin.

Romney: I Want Roe Overturned, Will Stop Obama Abortion Funding

In a weekend interview, presidential candidate Mitt Romney reiterated his pro-life position favoring the reversal of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that has resulted in 55 million abortions on unborn children since 1973.

Romney has repeatedly called for overturning Roe — doing so in January and again in April — and he repeated his desire to see it overturned in an interview on “Meet the Press” Sunday. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/09/10/romney-i-want-roe-overturned-will-stop-obama-abortion-funding/

Romney Applauds Ruling Striking Blow at Obama HHS Mandate

Romney Applauds Ruling Striking Blow at Obama HHS Mandate

Presidential candidate Mitt Romney is elated that a federal court has issued the first victory for pro-life advocates taking on the controversial Obama HHS mandate that requires religious employers to pay for or refer employees for birth control and abortion-causing drugs.

Romney said he was pleased the court issued an injunction in one case to prevent the federal government from requiring businesses to cover contraception in their health plans.

“Freedom of conscience has won an important victory,” Romney said, saying the “injunction preventing the federal government from forcing one family business from having to choose between keeping its doors open and violating its faith is a step in the right direction.” http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/30/romney-applauds-ruling-striking-blow-at-obama-hhs-mandate/

Immigration-related arrests at lowest level in 40 years

 - posted on NumbersUSA

New data from the federal government show a significant decrease in apprehensions for federal immigration violations, dropping to a 40-year low. The report from the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics shows apprehensions at just over half a million in 2010 down from 1.8 million in 2000.

The report shows that the Tucson sector covering the eastern half of Arizona had the most apprehension at more than 70,000. The Rio Grande Valley sector, which covers coastal Texas and a small portion of the U.S.-Mexico border, the Laredo sector in Texas, which covers from where the Rio Grande Valley sector ends and covers the section of the border across from the Mexican city Nuevo Laredo, and the San Diego sector, which covers the California coast and the western half of the California border with Mexico, all had between 35,000 and 70,000 apprehensions.

The Tucson sector led all sectors with 212,202 apprehensions.

Most apprehensions were for illegal entry and about half of those were removed aliens trying to reenter the U.S. 83% of those apprehended were from Mexico, and 12% were from Central America up from 3% in 2002. Of the illegal aliens apprehended and referred to the U.S. attorney, 53% were arrested for illegal entry, 42% for alien smuggling, and 5% for misuse of a visa.

For more information, see the full report from the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics.
