If I Knew You Were Suing, I'd've Baked a Cake

President Obama does not talk about "religious liberty." He prefers the phrase "freedom to worship" - ie, it's something you do for an hour or two on a Sunday morning, and then put it in the closet for the rest of the week and live a secular life in a secular world. I would imagine that shrunken and attenuated view of religious "liberty" will come to prevail in America in the years ahead - at least until some gay guy sues a Muslim baker for failing to bake his wedding cake, when it will all get more complicated.
Yesterday the Governor of Arizona made her own small contribution to this wholesale transformation. From Powerline's Paul Mirengoff:

Governor Jan Brewer has here and here. Brewer claimed that S.B. 1062 "does not address a specific or present concern related to religious liberty in Arizona" and that it was "broadly worded and could result in unintended and negative consequences."

Paul takes these objections more seriously than Arizona's Governor did or most of the newspapers. Yesterday, I heard Republican state senator Steve Pierce explain why he voted for the bill before he was against it. Like Nancy Pelosi, he passed it in order that he could find out what was in it, and, once he'd found out, he changed his mind and demanded that Jan Brewer veto him before he could legislate again.
Whatever the faults or the virtues of the bill, there is nothing to be said for such a legislative class. What does the jelly-spined Pierce really believe about the law he passed? What does Governor Brewer really feel about it, other than that she's tired of being demonized as "Jan Crow"? Paul Mirengoff distills it:

Her real concern is with avoiding the wrath of businesses that wish to avoid the wrath of gay activists.

Through all the years I have been in America, I have been told, whenever I draw attention to some examples from Canada, that Americans are not wussy pantywaist Canadians, and there's no chance of that happening here. And yet oddly enough it does happen here, in nothing flat. Here's the kind of column I was writing up north a decade ago:

So it's no surprise to find that, even though we've only had legalized "same-sex marriage" for ten minutes, and even though Paul Martin & Co. have given a lot of fine-sounding assurances on how the new arrangements will respect the deeply held beliefs of ancient religions, gays are already in court suing for the right to marry on church property. In 2003, the Knights of Columbus in Port Coquitlam accepted a booking for a wedding reception in their hall behind Our Lady of the Assumption Church. It's a fairly typical Knights of Columbus hall--crucifixes, photographs of the Pope, paintings of the Virgin Mary, et cetera. When the Knights discovered that Deborah Chymyshyn and Tracey Smith were, in fact, a lesbian couple, they cancelled the booking as politely as they could under the circumstances, returning the deposit and, on the advice of the Archdiocese, chipping in a further $600 to cover new wedding invitations and an alternative location...

Take a wild guess at how that worked out for them.

A legal decision here, a legal decision there--a religious institution can't fire a militantly gay employee, a religious school has to allow gay couples to the prom, the sterner admonitions from Leviticus can no longer be quoted in church advertising--and the ratchet effect is well underway.

As my compatriot Kathy Shaidle likes to say (until she's arrested), "More KY for that slippery slope." But don't worry - rock-ribbed Republicans like Pierce and Brewer will ensure there's no danger of any of that coming to America.

Facebook Expands to 50 Gender Options, Where Will This Lead?

Facebook officials have announced that it is expanding its gender description options to 50 different choices after consulting with a group of leading lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender advocacy organizations.
This represents a major new development in the ongoing controversy regarding the cultural ramifications of what in the past was considered deviant sexuality. But it is only a beginnng. It will likely cause a ripple effect into many other areas of life—job applications, loan papers, sports, legislation, court cases to name a few.
Will applications need to replace the simple M/F choice to "see attached schedule?" What about public restrooms? Obviously, it won't be possible to expand to 50 different restrooms. So we are likely to see the traditional male or female restrooms with unisex restrooms, a trend that has already begun and may be legally mandated.
What about dressing rooms at swimming pools, schools and professional sports? How will parents feel about having their daughters in dressing rooms and showers where they know others are present who are sexually attracted to females despite their female anatomy? Or will at some point will the fact that sexuality is being redefined by sexual preference mean that children and adults will share the same dressing room and shower with the anatomy of the opposite sex? Are we really ready for that?
The question of how professional athletes will deal with these dilemmas is already on the radar with the public announcement from draft prospect Michael Sam that he is gay, which has been the main topic of sports talk shows. Everyone is careful to be political correct in their comments lest they be branded as homophobic and lose their job or be suspended from their team. It remains to be seen how this will go when the season begins.
This is only the tip of the iceberg of an ongoing trend that is leading us into uncharted waters. Sexual diversity is nothing new. It has been around for a long time. The "don't ask, don't tell" approach resulted in a "what they don't know won't hurt them" situation regarding the reactions of others with whom transgender individuals came in contact. But the growing trend of such individuals "coming out of the closet" seeking full acceptance and approval has posed a relatively new challenge in our culture.
The Bible clearly reveals that God created humankind male and female (Genesis 1:27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
See All...). Since that time heredity and/or environment has created a virtual "Heinz variety" of sexual identities. Where it will lead, God only knows. Many, especially in older generations are asking, "What is this world coming to?"

A Christian baker in Colorado refused to bake a cake for a gay wedding. A judge is now ordering him to do so or face financial penalties.
Surely there are plenty of bakers who would bake a cake for David Mullins and Charlie Craig, the gay men who wanted the cake. But they went to Jack Phillips of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Denver, CO. When Phillips declined because of his religious beliefs, Mullins and Craig went to the ACLU, which in turn complained to the state that Phillips was discriminating.
There will be no accommodation between gay rights activists and those seeking religious freedom to opt out of the gay rights movement. Gay rights activists demand tolerance for their lifestyle, but will not tolerate those who choose to adhere to their religious beliefs.
Increasingly, courts around the country are siding with the gay rights movement against those relying on the first freedoms of the country. While many would prefer to sit this out, they will be made to care.
Evil preaches tolerance until it is dominate and then it seeks to silence good. We are more and more rapidly arriving at a point in this country where Christians are being forced from the public square unless they abandon the tenets of their faith. In our secular society, Christianity is something you do on a Sunday and who you sleep with defines you.
For Christians defined by their faith, this paradigm of being defined by your sexual preference instead of your faith is deeply troublesome and will see more and more of these stories crop up.

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor has refused to act favorably on an emergency appeal Hobby Lobby stores filed to stop enforcement of the HHS mandate against it.



After a federal court denied a request to temporarily stop enforcement of the abortion pill mandate against the Christian-operated business Hobby Lobby, it took its HHS mandate lawsuit to the Supreme Court. Interpol, Swedish authorities aiding Saudi hunt for convert from Islam to Christianity

In late July Saudi media reported that a Saudi woman named Maryam (28) had illegally both embraced Christianity and fled the country. Her family have charged two men — a Lebanese and a Saudi national — with complicity in her conversion and escape. The men will face court on 15 September. Whilst a woman claiming to be Maryam told an Arabic TV channel that she was converted through a dream and has found peace in Christianity, Saudi media maintain it is all either fraud or coercion. The woman’s family has suggested she is a victim of human traffickers. Interpol is reportedly coordinating with the Saudi Embassy in Stockholm and Swedish authorities to find and return the ‘girl’ before her ‘kidnappers’ can move her to another country. Please pray.

Since late July Saudi media have been buzzing with reports that a 28-year-old Saudi woman has embraced Christianity and fled the country, staying initially in a church in Lebanon before moving on to Sweden. According to the Saudi Gazette, the woman, Maryam, appeared on an Arabic TV channel saying she was tired of performing prayers and fasting during Ramadan — rituals that never brought her any benefit. She also criticised Saudi Arabia’s Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice. She claimed to have been converted through a dream and said that though she was raised to hate Judaism and Christianity she has come to love those religions since finding peace in Christianity....



Prosecuting lawyer, Humood Al-Khaldi, said that whilst the penalty in Islam of death for apostasy is clear, ‘the roles played by the two men, the Saudi and Lebanese, in making the girl become Christian should be taken into consideration’. He said ‘the court should make sure first that the girl was coerced into converting to Christianity and fleeing the country’. According to Gulf News, ‘Most Saudis reacting to the Khobar woman saga . . . have been calling for stringent action against the Lebanese and Saudi nationals for their alleged roles in the case, claiming that they were “well aware of the consequences of their act”.’...



On 2 September the Saudi Gazette reported that ‘Interpol is co-ordinating with the Saudi Embassy in Stockholm and Swedish authorities to return the girl to her homeland before her “kidnappers” move her to another country.’ The embassy reportedly has started a search for the woman, with the aid of Swedish authorities.

Saudis investigating jihad terror activity by Saudi citizens case of Muslim woman who converted to Christianity


A nation that places such restrictions on the freedom of conscience of its citizens ought not to be allowed to compete in the Olympics. But that, of course, would be in a sane world.



Muhammad said: "Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him" (Bukhari 9.84.57). The death penalty for apostasy is part of Islamic law according to all the schools of Islamic jurisprudence. Yet Muslim spokesmen such as Harris Zafar, Mustafa Akyol, Salam al-Marayati, M. Cherif Bassiouni, and Ali Eteraz (among many others) have assured us that Islam doesn't punish apostasy. I expect that Zafar, Akyol, al-Marayati, Bassiouni, and Eteraz will immediately be jetting over to Riyadh to explain to the Saudis that they're getting Islam all wrong, wrong, wrong, and should stop investigating this conversion case immediately.

Dubai: A Saudi court is expected to look into an unprecedented case of a foreigner converting a local Muslim woman to Christianity.

According to Sabq news website, the court in Al Khobar in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia will review the case submitted by the public prosecutor after a man filed a suit against a Saudi and a Lebanese for their alleged role in converting his daughter to Christianity and smuggling her out of the country. She is now reportedly living in a church in Lebanon. The woman, 28, was working in a company in Al Khobar where the two men were also employed. Sabq said that the investigation has concluded that the role of the Saudi national was to assist in smuggling the woman out of the country. Both defendants have been freed on bail pending the trial and the Lebanese has been reportedly barred from leaving the country.

Disowned!!!! Yeah, that is what my family has done to me. They have disowned me for life... Why? Because I am in love with a British Christian man and want to spend the rest of my life with him. Isn't it strange? How can parents be so ruthless towards their own flesh and blood?

Well, as you all know, things were not going very good with John, he just wasn't willing to commit, so I sort of gave him an ultimatum. I said either you commit to me or else I am leaving this country for good and moving to the US, where I would be granted asylum based on my apostasy. He got paranoid and agreed to meet my family, since my parents are on a visit this summer and staying with my brothers, so I invited mom and dad for lunch two weeks ago to a restaurant and told them that I am bringing someone special whom I want them to meet and approve. They were a bit skeptical, but I think they almost assumed it would be a Pakistani or an Indian Muslim or maybe an Arab, but I am sure they never expected to see a white guy.



As soon as they entered the restaurant, John and I got up to greet them. To say that my parents were shocked beyond their wits would be the understatement of the year. Anyway, dad shook hands and we all sat down for lunch and I must say that dad did behave pretty good, he was civil to him and they both talked about cricket, food, England, the Middle East and the crazy Arabs and their erratic driving. It went on pretty smooth and then we all departed with a very civil goodbye. Then an hour later, while John and I were watching a movie at his place, mom called me up and said, "This is the last time I am calling you, because your dad and I disown you: from this day onwards, you are dead for us. You have really let us down by getting involved with a non Muslim. It's over, so please

never even try to get in touch." And she just hung up on me....

Dhimmi double standard in the Netherlands: "No racial hatred charges for British Sharia law expert," from Dutch News, June 22 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):



The public prosecution department has no plans to bring charges against a British-Palestinian expert in Sharia law for allegedly making comments which incited hatred and discrimination in Amsterdam earlier this year, news agency ANP reports.

Haitham al-Haddad made the comments during a debate which replaced a two-day symposium at Amsterdam's VU University. The conference was cancelled following a row over al-Haddad's views about Jews.



Anti-Islam campaigner Ehsan Jami had called for legal action against al-Haddad after he told the debate ex Muslims deserve the death penalty, as outlined in Sharia law.



However, the public prosecution department said al-Haddad had not committed any offences because he had outlined a number of conditions for applying the death penalty which made it clear this could not happen in the Netherlands.

Christian Religion


The Christian religion is no longer accorded the level of trust and credibility it once held in Western civilization. The unpersuaded see it as having few positive distinctions from all other religions.







How much confidence can we have in the validity of the Christianity religion in light of its troubled history?Whether Christian, Buddhist, Shinto, Islamic, Hindu, etc. (a choice of hundreds of major religious groups and thousands of minor ones are available) most religions seem to have one thing in common: a core of people dedicated to doing good things for others. In this regard, the Christian religion is not unique.



But there is also the negative side of Christianity. Corruption, disagreements and scandals undermine its credibility just as they do other religions.



How much confidence can we have in the validity of the Christianity religion in light of its troubled history? Consider these relevant facts.



True Christianity Undergoes Major Renovation

Shortly after all of the apostles' writings were completed and added to the Bible (near the end of the first century) Christianity began experiencing internal controversies. The debates and doctrinal modifications that followed led to significant diversity in its teachings.



By the fourth century, after it had transformed its teachings sufficiently to be accepted in the Roman Empire's social and political structure, it became the state religion. But this is a key to understanding how Christianity as it is marketed is not necessarily the true Christian religion: the Christian religion had been reshaped to fit the Roman Empire's leanings.



This expanded the power of the church in Rome dramatically. In a short while the church was dominating the state. It justified its newly found status with the doctrine of two swords—the church (the spiritual sword) claimed superiority over the state (the secular sword).



By the early part of the 16th century a considerable number of people in Europe began to challenge the moral laxity and other abuses approved or allowed by the ecclesiastical hierarchy in Rome. These "protesters" were labeled as heretics. The root of this word means a choice—signifying that these people had made an open choice to no longer trust or accept the beliefs of the church hierarchy. State sponsored Christianity was thrown into a crisis.



Why So Many Christian Religion Denominations?

The "Protestors"—later called Protestants—were attempting to reform Christianity through the movement now known as the Protestant Reformation. But instead of those reforms uniting the Christian religion, scores of splits occurred in the years that followed, giving rise to hundreds of "Christian" denominations. Amid this diversity each denomination has experienced enormous difficulty in living up to its own tenets and teachings.



Within the greater body of Christianity its shortcomings and divisions are played down for seemingly two reasons. Denominations quickly recognized that their membership would probably drop drastically if they insisted that everyone associated with them had to pledge full compliance with all of their tenets. Their second choice, the one most settled for, was that a few good deeds are better than none at all.



They accepted the reality that only a minority—often a small minority—of their members would actually practice sincerely all they teach.



Many Examples of Christian Religion Lack Credibility

Current surveys of the practices of those who claim to be Christians indicate that they often vary greatly from the tenets of the denomination to which they belong. And they differ even more with the teachings of the Bible. These surveys indicate that most of today's professing Christians believe that truth is relative and that they can trust their own feelings and opinions more than the teaching they hear preached.



Christianity is a religion at odds with itself. Within it are many sincere, well meaning people who do the best they know how to do in living a decent life that includes loving and serving others. But when the history of Christianity is examined honestly, much is to be desired of the example and commitment of the vast majority of its members—and often of its leaders. It is little wonder that so many doubt its credibility.

We reside in a culture of contraception.



Supposedly, in order to cope with the reality of our sinful plight and its horrendous consequences, some liberal voices maintain that the real contraceptive scandal is that people are not using them more. As an article teaser in the London Times stated: "If we can't stop teenagers having sex, we can stop them having babies. That means firing the contraceptive big guns" ("Hard Cases Mean Hard Choices. Like Implants," Feb. 11, 2012).



Under provisions of Obamacare (the U.S. health insurance law put forward by the administration of President Barack Obama), the federal government will require that health-care coverage include contraceptives for the obvious purpose of birth control along with free sterilization and medications that can and will induce abortions.



A column drophead in The Economist boldly declared that "the president picks an unnecessary fight with the mighty Catholic Church" ("Obama's 'War on Religion,'" Feb. 11, 2012). Official Roman Catholic doctrine opposes all of these practices, yet enterprises owned or controlled by the church (or by other religious institutions) would be compelled to provide employees with such coverage. Even if changed to having only insurance companies provide such coverage, many insurers who are Catholic would be acting against conscience. Moreover, all individuals are effectively being required to purchase such coverage.



Church officials regard these aspects of Obamacare as a direct attack on the religious freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.



And indeed, forcing the coverage of birth-control means in violation of people's basic moral values is correctly viewed by a great many as blatantly unconstitutional. In fact, merely forcing individuals to enter into contract and pay for health insurance, whether independently or through their and employers, is deemed unconstitutional by a large part of the country—and the case is currently before the U.S. Supreme Court.



This matter, particularly the issue of government trampling over religious freedom, causes the gravest concern to many if not most American citizens. Furthermore, dressing up abortion by using such phrases as women "exercising their reproductive rights" is clearly repugnant to many with moral views based on the Bible.

Woman Kicked Out of Muslim Mall for Wearing Nail Polish – Might Turn Someone On!

Over the years, I’ve written a great deal about how the Sunni government of Saudi Arabia cooperates with Al-Qaeda and its Wahhabi masses that populate the country. It’s the only way our “allies in the war on terror” can hold power and keep the Qaeda supporters from taking over, as they have in Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, and will soon elsewhere because Bush and Obama pioneered the “art” of the Muslim democracy fantasy. In that context, a couple of weeks ago, the Saudi religious police–the muttaween–kicked a woman out of a Saudi mall for committing the “indecency to Islam” of wearing nail polish. Might turn a guy on, and then he’ll have the legit “nail polish defense” because, after all, he shouldn’t be held responsible for putting his hormones and libido in check after seeing the nail laquer. Below is he video of the Saudi religious police’s nail polish encounter. Alhamdillullah [praise allah], the nail polish sluttiness epidemic has been banished. On the other hand, if I only had a dime for every haughty Muslim woman in a hijab or niqab wearing layers of make-up thicker than Rosie O’Donnell. If I only had a nickel for each time one of those woman looked at me disdainfully because I wasn’t covered in a sheet, as if I’m immodest. And yet they wear this thick make-up and nail polish, which kinda defeats the purpose of being totally covered, doesn’t it?



Behead The Nail Polish That Insults Islam



Now the Saudi religious police are pretending to be upset over this and claiming it was a rogue action, but only because they got caught on video. Look at how many of ‘em are there. This wasn’t a rogue thing. It was–and remains–the usual Muttaween MO. These are the same religious police who forced girls to remain in a burning school and die, because men might see them if they let them out to escape the burning building. And, hey, they might get turned on.

The head of the Saudi religious police has come out strongly against one of his men who ordered a woman to leave a mall because she was wearing nail polish, a local daily reported on Monday.



“The world is manufacturing airplanes and we are still telling a woman ‘leave the mall because you’ve got nail polish on your fingers’,” local daily Al-Watan quoted Sheikh Abdullatiff Abdel Aziz al-Sheikh as saying.



The woman had defied the orders as she filmed her argument with the policeman and posted it on YouTube, in a video that attracted more than a million hits in the first few days after it went online.



“I was very disappointed by what I have seen. The matter has been exaggerated and negatively exploited,” Sheikh, head of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, said.



See, that’s the money quote. Normal people with decent Western values have taken note and given us bad publicity.



The three and a half minute video posted on May 23 shows members of the notorious commission telling the woman to “get out of here (the mall).”



But she refuses to comply, saying: “I’m staying and I want to know what you’re going to do about” it.



“It’s none of your business if I wear nail polish,” the unidentified woman, who is not seen on tape, is heard shouting at bearded men from the feared religious force.



“You are not in charge of me,” she defiantly shouts back, referring to new constraints imposed earlier this year on the religious police, banning them from harassing Saudi women over their behaviour and attire.



“The government has banned you from coming after us,” she told the men, adding “you are only supposed to provide advice, and nothing more.”



At one point during the video, she cautions the religious police that she has already posted the exchange online.



And in the end, the nail polish wearer and her religious police banishers have a lot in common: they hate Jews. They hate Israel. So, it’s not like I worry for this chick.



Still, if you think this ain’t comin’ to America, just give it a few centuries (or, perhaps, just decades).



It is not clear if the woman was eventually forced to leave the mall.

I love stories like this, and I’m sure the Muslim world will be out to get this murtadd ["apostate"]. Technically, Jacob Wertheimer is not a Jew and needs to go through a conversion to be one. But he identifies as Jewish, chose Judaism over Islam, and just had his Bar Mitzvah. His father is Jewish, and his mother, Khaliah Ali-Wertheimer, daughter of boxer Muhammad Ali, left Islam (she’s an “apostate,” too). Muslims love to rub it in the world’s face every time a prominent non-Muslim, especially a Jew or Christian, converts–er “reverts,” in their phony, fantasist terminology–to Islam. Now, it’s their turn. And turnabout is sweet, in addition to being fair play. Wow, that must sting like a Maccabee.









Sting Like a Maccabee: allah NOT the “Greatest” to Newly Bar-Mitzvahed Muhammad Ali Grandson, Jacob Wertheimer











One of his grandchildren, Jacob Wertheimer, was recently bar mitzvahed. . . .



Jacob (the son of Khaliah Ali-Wertheimer and her husband, Spencer) turned thirteen on January 21 of this year. The bar mitzvah took place on April 28 at Congregation Rodeph Shalom in Philadelphia. One hundred fifty people were in attendance. Jacob’s grandfather was among them.



“I was born and raised as a Muslim,” Khaliah says. “But I’m not into organized religion. I’m more spiritual than religious. My husband is Jewish. No one put any pressure on Jacob to believe one way or another. He chose this on his own because he felt a kinship with Judaism and Jewish culture.”



“The ceremony was wonderful and very touching,” Khaliah continues. “The theme of Jacob’s presentation was inclusiveness and a celebration of diversity. My father was supportive in every way. He followed everything and looked at the Torah very closely. It meant a lot to Jacob that he was there.”



Khaliah says proudly that Jacob is an “A” student and a good athlete with Ivy League aspirations. She also notes that the bar mitzvah of Muhammad Ali’s grandson is “a wonderful tale of what’s coming in the world.”



The Wertheimers are not the only Muhammad Ali descendants to have a good vibe with the Jewish people. One of Ali’s other daughters is involved with scientific research in Israel and is a big fan of the country. I know this because I was once on a TV show with her, and she told me.

A majority of Americans, in a new Rasmussen Reports national poll, oppose the Obama HHS mandate, which requires religious groups to pay for birth control and abortion-causing drugs for their employees.

Somalia: Islamist militants behead another Christian convert








Islamist militants in Somalia have beheaded a Christian relief worker – the third Christian to be killed in this way since September.






It has emerged that al-Shabaab militia murdered 26-year-old Zakaria Hussein Omar in January near the capital Mogadishu.






Zakaria worked for a Christian humanitarian organisation that had been banned by the Islamist extremists. He converted to Christianity from Islam seven years ago. A close friend who identified his body said Zakaria realised his life would be in danger if he continued in his work.






Al-Shabaab has vowed to rid the country of its Christian minority.






In September the terrorist group beheaded two other Christians, including a 17-year-old boy. They have publicly flogged and paraded other converts.






The militants are fighting for control of the country. But Somalia's UN-backed transitional government – considered by some to be moderate – has also embraced a form of Sharia (Islamic law) that mandates the death penalty for converts from Islam.






• Please pray for courage, wisdom and protection for Somalia's small Christian minority. There are said to be fewer than 31,000 Christians in Somalia – and numbers are falling.


• Pray that Somalia's Christians will live in peace and remain faithful in their witness.


• And pray that those responsible for the violence and murder in the name of their religion would instead embrace peace.
