Mali: Muslims screaming “Allahu akbar” take hostages, free those who can recite Qur’an

We have seen this before on several occasions in Kenya. In September 2013 at Nairobi’s Westgate Mall, Muslims murdered people who couldn’t answer questions about Islam. In June 2014, Muslims murdered people who could not pass an Islam quiz. In November 2014, Muslims murdered 28 non-Muslims who couldn’t recite Qur’an verses. In April 2015, Muslims screaming “Allahu akbar” stormed Garissa University College, and only shot those who couldn’t recite Qur’an.
Now we see it in Mali. And this is coming to the U.S.

BAMAKO (Reuters) – Islamist gunmen stormed a luxury hotel packed with foreigners in Mali’s capital Bamako on Friday, taking 170 hostages in a former French colony that has been battling rebels allied with al Qaeda for several years.
A senior security source said some of the hostages had been freed after being made to recite verses from the Koran. The French newspaper Le Monde quoted the Malian security ministry as saying at least three hostages had been killed.
The raid on the Radisson Blu hotel, which lies just west of the city center near government ministries and diplomatic offices in the former French colony, comes a week after Islamic State militants killed 129 people in Paris.
The identity of the Bamako gunmen, or the group to which they belong, is not known.
Northern Mali was occupied by Islamist fighters, some with links to al Qaeda, for most of 2012. They were driven out by a French-led military operation, but sporadic violence has continued in Mali’s central belt on the southern reaches of the Sahara, and in Bamako.
The security source said as many as 10 gunmen had stormed the building, firing shots and shouting “Allahu Akbar”, or “God is great” in Arabic. The hotel’s head of security said two private security guards had been injured in the early stages of the attack, which began at 7 a.m. (0200 ET)….
In the wake of last week’s Paris attacks, an Islamic State militant in Syria told Reuters the organization viewed France’s military intervention in Mali as another reason to attack France and French interests.
“This is just the beginning. We also haven’t forgotten what happened in Mali,” said the non-Syrian fighter, who was contacted online by Reuters.
“The bitterness from Mali, the arrogance of the French, will not be forgotten at all.”

Forget ObamaCare; It’s Plain Old Medicaid

Enrollment figures from state ObamaCare exchanges are revealing a pattern that will alter fundamentally the terms of the debate over Obama’s signature health insurance program.
When it was proposed, considered, and enacted, it was seen as a program requiring everybody to buy private insurance on health exchanges or face a fine. Those already covered with “affordable” and sufficiently comprehensive health care policies were exempt from the mandate.
And, oh yes, for the poor, the bill expanded the Medicaid program substantially.
But now experience with ObamaCare sign-ups at local exchanges indicates that it is the Medicaid feature of the program that is attracting the most attention and enrollments.
In Washington State, for example, 88% of the enrollments have been in Medicaid. In Kentucky, 82% were on Medicaid. In New York State, two-thirds of the new enrollments were into the Medicaid program.
Should this trend continue in other states and in federal exchanges — and there is no reason to assume they won’t — ObamaCare will amount to little more than an expansion of Medicaid.
The debate over single payer v private insurance will have been resolved by the lack of interest among the near-poor in the private program and their inability to afford even subsidized premium levels.
ObamaCare will have been a massive expansion of single payer, state-provided coverage and little else.
One can imagine the day when Obama announces proudly that he has extended health coverage to, say, seven million Americans. But an examination of the fine print will reveal that six million will have come through Medicaid. Good, old fashioned Medicaid, a program that has been kicking around for 50 years.
Nationally, 82 million Americans are one Medicaid, making it the largest of our entitlement programs. Only 46 million, by comparison, get Medicare. 47 million get food stamps. 50 million get Social Security. But Medicaid is, by far, the largest program.
By the time it is expanded, as provided in ObamaCare, it will surge to over 100 million in its coverage.
This change in enrollment patterns raises some key questions:
1. Do we need ObamaCare? The massive edifice of exchanges, subsidies, regulations, coverage requirements enacted with ObamaCare are scarcely necessary if they cover only a few million people.
2. What of the implications for state budgets? If ObamaCare is to be largely a Medicaid expansion, what will the impact on state budgets be? Those who enroll under the newly expanded Medicaid eligibility standards will be financed fully by the feds for three years, after which the states will be obliged to chip in 10% for another three years. After that, the funding goes back to the usual federal-state Medicaid match of 1/3 to 1/2 federal funding. Since many states have opted not to expand their Medicaid coverage, this effect will not be universal, but it will be significant.
But the experience of the state exchanges indicates that about a third of the new enrollments are by people who have been eligible all along for Medicaid and just didn’t sign up. Caught up in the hoopla about universal coverage, they are now seeking to enroll in Medicaid. But the states will not get special reimbursement for these new enrollees. The normal Medicaid match of 66-33 or 50-50 will apply, breaking the bank for many states.
So, as it turns out, ObamaCare will be financed in large part by state taxpayers: an outcome nobody had foreseen.

[Darris McNeely] Canada is reeling right now as a result of two terrorist attacks that have taken the life of at least one policeman and unsettled what is normally a very peaceful and calm country and nation. And as a result of their participation in the war against ISIS in the country of Iraq in the Middle East, now terrorism has come to Canada, and they're wondering what's next. To deal with something like this in a country like Canada – certainly America's had its share, and other western nations – is unsettling and disturbing. It creates fear and it creates panic – which is exactly what terrorists want to have accomplished in western nations when they perpetrate random acts, such as what happened in Canada this week when a gunman stormed the parliament building and was finally shot down by the sergeant in arms there, and another officer was killed when he was run over by a car.
These are tragic situations. Bigger ones have happened, killing more people in other countries, and there's lessons as we look at what is taking place here. I look at this always from a standpoint of not just the political, geopolitics of the moment, but also from a spiritual perspective. Because if you look at terrorism as striking fear and panic within otherwise normal and peaceful western nations, especially like Canada, and creating mistrust of even other parts of the population, and all the media hype that goes along with it, you realize that the terrorists' goal is to break down the fabric of society and to rip it apart by whatever means they can do. And when they succeed in that to, again, whatever degree, their ends begin to be met. And so there's a lesson there. There's a lesson for you and I spiritually as we view and observe all of this.
We deal with a spiritual form of terror when it comes to the resistance against us as Christians in dealing with this world, overcoming our own human nature, overcoming the pulls of this world and living godly in this age. We have that responsibility before us. And our enemy is seeking to snatch away the calm, the confidence, the courage that we might have to deal with the challenges that we have. So we deal with our own form of spiritual terrorism. And I think that is something that we always need to remember as we look at these larger incidents that take place in the news today.
In Luke:8:12Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved., there is the parable of the sower and the seed, and Christ's explanation of the seed being the gospel of the kingdom that is sown within people's lives and minds. He shows that one of the primary activities that takes place after that seed is sown is the effort to snatch away the seeds of truth, the seeds of the gospel of the kingdom, and commitment and dedication from a person's life. It says that what happens is, "The devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts that they should not believe and be saved." That's Luke:8:12Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.. Satan comes on the scene to snatch away the seed of hope, of truth, of courage, and to replace it with fear and panic, spiritually speaking, in this age. We fight a war on a spiritual level against a spiritual terrorist every single day. And I think that's one of the great lessons that we must have. We have to stand up, and we have to be courageous, and we have to deal with that, just as the political leaders have to be courageous and show how their own peoples, as in Canada – how to go forward, how to deal with tragic accidents and acts of terror that take place like this. They have to show that in order for the people, the country, the nation to continue going forward. We have to do the same in our own personal life as we meet the resistance that is there with us.

Rationale for Illinois Driver's License Bill Discredited by Recent Study

The leaders of the Illinois Legislature are hoping to pass legislation that would allow illegal aliens to get a driver's license. In support of that effort, the senate's Assistant Republican Leader and a high-profile sheriff wrote an op-ed for a suburban Chicago newspaper, the Daily Herald, on Wednesday. State Sen. Bill Brady and Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran argued that the legislation would reduce the costs of uninsured claims. But a recent study by the Insurance Research Council squashes that argument.



In the op-ed, Sen. Brady and Sheriff Curran try to calm any concerns over how the driver's license could be used by illegal aliens by stating that the license can't be used as "identification to register to vote, board an airplane or purchase a firearm." They focus instead on the savings that should be passed on to currently insured drivers in the Land of Lincoln:



Untested, uninsured immigrants are driving today, and those drivers cost $64 million annually in uninsured damage claims that other policy holders must cover. In 2011, 42 percent of all fatal crashes in Illinois involved an unlicensed driver. In Lake County, for instance, 28 percent of all motorists booked for traffic offenses in the last year were undocumented immigrants who could not get licenses, burdening our public safety system.

Sen. Brady, who also serves as the Ranking GOP Member of the state legislature's insurance committee, and Sheriff Curran base their entire rationale for the legislation on uninsured immigrant drivers. They assume that by passing the legislation illegal aliens would run out and purchase auto insurance.



But the Insurance Research Council found a different result in New Mexico after the state passed similar legislation in 2003. Comparing IRC research in New Mexico from 2000 and then again in 2008, the number of uninsured motorists in New Mexico had actually RISEN from 26.3% in 2000 to 29.5% in 2008. In 2009, the number dipped a bit to 25.7%, but that's a negligible decrease from the 2000 benchmark.



The research led J. Tim Query, a Ph.D. and Associate Professor of Risk Management and Insurance at New Mexico State University to say:



If the policy is motivated by a lowering of uninsured motorists or decreasing accidents, I think it has had an insignificant effect.

Facts are facts; allowing illegal aliens to get a driver's license in New Mexico has done nothing to reduce the number of uninsured motorists in the state, and there's nothing to suggest things would be different in Illinois despite the fact that the bill under consideration invalidates the driver's licenses of illegal aliens without insurance. New Mexico also has penalties for failing to purchase insurance.



Furthermore, in recent weeks, the Illinois Sheriffs Association has grown weary of the bill. The group's Executive Director Greg Sullivan said initial drafts of the bill included requirements for illegal aliens to submit fingerprints and tax identification numbers, but those provisions have been dropped.



It comes down to: how do we prove identity? We don’t want to have a system that issues state driver’s licenses to felons and criminals. Fingerprints help us prevent that. From a public perspective, the undocumented should be paying for the privilege of driving, using our roads, maintaining our signs, and supporting the traffic court system with their taxes too.

On a separate note, Sheriff Curran's pro-illegal-alien sympathies go beyond the issue of driver's licenses. He's been a vocal opponent of the Obama Administration's Secure Communities program that notifies federal immigration officers when an illegal alien has been booked in a local jail. This program has resulted in what the Administration boasts is a "record number of deportations." But Sheriff Curran said during a PBS interview:



What makes me uncomfortable about Secure Communities is the fact that we need to be talking about comprehensive immigration reform, and we need to be doing so unabashedly.

New unemployment numbers are out today, and there's no improvement for unemployed Americans who would be most likely to compete with amnestied illegal aliens for jobs. Instead of talking about "comprehensive immigration reform" and giving rewards like driver's licenses to illegal aliens, shouldn't we be talking about ways to free up the 7 million non-agricultural jobs held by illegal aliens to help the 20 million Americans who can't find one?

Michigan Senate Passes Major Pro-Life Bill Stopping Abortions


The Michigan state Senate has approved a major piece of pro-life legislation that will stop abortions by protecting women and holding abortion facilities accountable for following basic health and safety standards.



The measures to license and inspect abortion clinics, prevent coercive abortion, and stop so-called telemed abortions are intended to protect women and unborn children and further drive down the number of abortions in the state. Urge Gov. Brown to Veto AB 1081 TODAY!

We need your help fighting California legislation that seeks to thwart immigration enforcement. In late August, the California Legislature passed AB 1081 and sent the legislation to Governor Jerry Brown. FAIR is calling upon every American to contact Governor Brown and urge him to veto AB 1081. AB 1081 currently sits on Governor Brown's desk. If he does not veto this bill by September 30th, the bill will automatically become law.



Passed by the California legislature in late August, AB 1081 requires state and local law enforcement agents to ignore U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainers unless the alien has been convicted of a "serious" or "violent" felony. Even more appalling, even in cases when an alien has been convicted of a serious or violent felony, AB 1081 allows California law enforcement agents to ignore ICE detainers if they so desire. Under California law, such crimes include:



Murder or voluntary manslaughter;

rape;

sodomy by force;

lewd or lascivious act on a child under 14 years of age;

any felony punishable by death or imprisonment in the state prison for life;

any felony in which the defendant personally inflicts great bodily injury on any person, other than an accomplice, or any felony in which the defendant personally uses a firearm;

attempted murder;

assault with intent to commit rape or robbery;

assault with a deadly weapon or instrument on a peace officer;

arson;

exploding a destructive device or any explosive causing bodily injury, great bodily injury,

exploding a destructive device or any explosive with intent to murder;

any burglary of the first degree;

robbery or bank robbery;

kidnapping;

holding of a hostage by a person confined in a state prison;

attempt to commit a felony punishable by death or imprisonment in the state prison for life;

any felony in which the defendant personally used a dangerous or deadly weapon;

selling, furnishing, administering, giving, or offering to sell, furnish, administer, or give to a minor any heroin, cocaine, phencyclidine (PCP), or any methamphetamine-related drug, or any of the precursors of methamphetamines,

grand theft involving a firearm;

carjacking;

throwing acid or flammable substances, in violation of Section 244;

assault with a deadly weapon, firearm, machinegun, assault weapon, or semiautomatic firearm or assault on a peace officer or firefighter, in violation of Section 245;

assault with a deadly weapon against a public transit employee, custodial officer, or school employee, in violation of Section 245.2, 245.3, or 245.5;

discharge of a firearm at an inhabited dwelling, vehicle, or aircraft, in violation of Section 246;

commission of rape or sexual penetration in concert with another person, in violation of Section 264.1;

continuous sexual abuse of a child, in violation of Section 288.5;

shooting from a vehicle, in violation of subdivision (c) or (d) of Section 26100;

intimidation of victims or witnesses, in violation of Section 136.1;

criminal threats, in violation of Section 422;

any attempt to commit a crime listed in this subdivision other than an assault;

(Cal Pen Code § 1192.7(c)(Serious Felonies); Cal Pen Code § 667.5(c) (Violent Felonies))

This means that if Governor Brown signs AB 1081, instead of being required to transfer custody of aliens convicted of these heinous crimes to the federal government for deportation, state and local officials will have the authority to release them back out onto the streets! This year alone, the federal government has already deported over 20,000 criminal aliens from California. If this legislation becomes law, it will not only jeopardize the public safety of Californians, it will affect the public safety of all Americans. Under AB 1081, instead of being deported, these criminal aliens will be free to go to any neighborhood in the nation!!!



Many Californians are already aware of one story in which local jails released a violent criminal alien back onto the streets. That's the story of Jamiel Shaw, Jr., who was murdered near his house in Los Angeles by an illegal alien gang member who had been released only one day earlier from a California jail where he had been serving time for assault with a deadly weapon. Not surprisingly, the Shaw family is passionately opposed to AB 1081 as the law would grant state and local law enforcement agencies authority to release illegal alien murderers — like the one who killed Jamiel — onto the streets instead of handing them over to the federal government for deportation (to learn more about the Jamiel Shaw story, click here).



Prevent another tragedy like Jamiel Shaw's from happening in your state by calling Governor Brown NOW and URGING him to veto AB 1081. Tell him that AB 1081 is a horrible threat to public safety and that he should care more about protecting Americans than illegal aliens! Remember: Gov. Brown has until September 30 to affirmatively veto this legislation. If he fails to take action, the bill will automatically become law.

"I am calling/writing Secretary of State ________ to ask that the illegal immigrants currently voting in _____(STATE NAME)____ be detected and removed before Election Day on Tuesday, November 6, 2012! Several states have detected illegal aliens registering and voting feloniously. The state of Florida identified thousands of suspect registrations that they are checking and Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz has learned that more than 3,500 non-citizens may be registered to vote in Iowa. 1208 of those also voted in the 2010 election. Please let me know if you can tell me how many illegal immigrants are registered in our state and how many are voting? I would like to know these numbers and if you plan to take immediate actions to prevent them from voting again in 2012?"

Locate phone numbers and addresses for your governor, secretary of state, and board of elections by using your favorite search engine (eg. yahoo.com) and typing in your state name followed by the words "governor contact", "secretary of state Contact", "Board of Elections contact".

Ask Your Governor to Issue Executive Order Precluding Benefits for Deferred-Action Recipients









Dear NumbersUSA activist,





The Obama Administration’s deferred action amnesty, which offers illegal aliens under the age of 31 a two-year stay from deportation, is producing fallout in the states. That’s because states must decide if deferred action recipients are eligible for driver’s licenses and other public benefits.





The California Department of Motor Vehicles issued a written statement saying, "It appears that young people who receive federal deferrals will be eligible for California driver’s licenses…But it remains uncertain whether clarifying legislation or regulations will be necessary." State law and regulations allow only certain types of federal immigration documents to support the issuance of licenses, so if recipients get "new or different immigration documents," then legislation or regulatory clarification may be needed, the DMV said.





Every state will have to decide whether deferred-action recipients get driver’s licenses, and more are weighing in each day. Georgia, Michigan, Oregon and Virginia officials, thus far, are leaning toward California’s stance. Governors in Arizona, Mississippi, Nebraska and Texas have said that deferred-action recipients will not be entitled to any benefits, including driver’s licenses.





On the day that the deferred-action amnesty took effect, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer issued an executive order re-affirming that amnesty recipients are not eligible for driver’s licenses and other public benefits under state law. Her press aide said, "What President Obama has done confers neither lawful status nor authorized presence. All they've done is defer these individuals' prosecution and deportation…It's up to states to try to do all they can to enforce their existing laws. " Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant issued a similar executive order on August 23rd.





Driver’s licenses aren’t the only issue under debate. Many who qualify for deferred action are high-school graduates who are in college or want to attend. A number of states give illegal aliens access to taxpayer subsidized, in-state tuition rates but most do not. Pro-illegal alien university administrators and state legislators are now making the case for extending in-state tuition to recipients. Other public benefits are at stake, too.





Please click here to send your governor a fax that asks him/her to follow the lead of the Arizona and Mississippi governors in issuing an executive order that precludes driver’s licenses or other benefits for deferred-action recipients.





Also, please call your governor with the following message:





“I am an active voter who strongly opposes the Obama Administration’s effort to give illegal aliens deferred action status. Please issue an executive order, like the Arizona and Mississippi governors, that prevents deferred-action recipients from getting state driver’s licenses or other public benefits.”

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed an executive order on Wednesday to deny benefits to young illegal immigrants who qualify under the White House’s new deferred action policy.



The Republican governor issued the order in response to the Obama administration’s decision to allow eligible illegal immigrants under 30 the chance to apply for a work permit in the United States...



The new deferred action program “does not confer upon them any lawful or authorized status and does not entitle them to any additional public benefits,” Brewer wrote in her order

This starts with the highest estimate I have seen yet of the size of the torrent expected to pour through the Obama loophole:



President Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which took effect Wednesday, allows as many as 2 million illegal immigrants who were brought to the US as children and meet several other criteria to apply for a two-year deportation deferral.

Brewer’s latest move could be part of an effort to build support in Congress and other states to challenge the constitutionality of DACA, which critics say goes beyond the White House's constitutional purview…



Brewer's order “is a broader challenge to the federal government, because this [Obama] order, this policy, is clearly illegal,” says Mark Krikorian, director of the Center for Immigration Studies,…“It’s trying to set up a confrontation that will focus not just on Governor Brewer’s order but on the illegality of the president’s policy."

Obama Administration Rejects Virginia's 287(g) Application

The Obama Administration has rejected the application submitted by the Virginia State Police to join the Department of Homeland Security's 287(g) program. The program allows local law enforcement agents to be trained by federal immigration enforcement officials in order to help enforce federal laws at the state and local level. Earlier this week, the administration suspended all 287(g) agreements that DHS had with agencies in Arizona.



"I'm incredibly disappointed with the Obama administration," Gov. Bob McDonnell said.



Gov. McDonnell campaigned in 2009 on the issue of registering the state police with the 287(g) program.



In 2010, Gov. McDonnell submitted an application to DHS to allow 28 state troopers to become part of the program. After nearly a year without a response, Gov. McDonnell contacted DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano, stating, "we have patiently waited nine months for formal approval and the time to act is now. Virginia meets all the qualifications and has proven to be an excellent partner state and I ask you to approve our application without further delay."

Share with your state lawmakers: Judge rules Florida illegal alien voter purge is legal

A federal judge on Wednesday rejected a Justice Department request to block Florida’s voter purge.



U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle ruled that that the state’s effort to remove potentially ineligible voters from its rolls is legal despite the looming Aug. 14 election, The Associated Press reports.



The Justice Department sued the state earlier this month over Gov. Rick Scott’s effort to identify and remove non-citizens from the rolls, arguing that the effort comes too close to the election and uses too imperfect a database to guarantee voters’ rights.



In a statement on his website, Scott said, “The court made a common-sense decision consistent with what I’ve been saying all along: that irreparable harm will result if non-citizens are allowed to vote.”



A Justice Department said in a statement to POLITICO, “We will review the written decision when it’s issued, and we decline further comment at this time.”



The state has asked local election officials to investigate the citizenship status of some 2,600 voters, but has yet to distribute a list of 182,000 voters — and won’t do so, according to a Scott spokesperson, unless the state can check the names against a Department of Homeland Security database. The state is suing for access to the database.
