An urgent post from www.NumbersUSA.com about E-Verify in Texas. This follows this post about the Federal District court's opinion on Arizona's 1070 and this follows this post which shows that there are 30,000 openly illegal immigrants in the border town of El Paso. Ask State Committee To Pass E-Verify Legislation, Oppose Amnesty Resolution
On Wednesday, April 13th, the House State Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on three E-Verify bills -- HB 178, HB 202, HB 3129 -- and a resolution (HCR 88) calling upon Congress to pass an amnesty. Calls, emails and faxes are needed to support the E-Verify bills and oppose HCR 88.
Once again, these are not the strongest E-Verify bills. The best of the three is HB 3129, which would require all employers to participate in the federal electronic verification of work authorization program, or E-Verify. It would allow, not require, the Texas Workforce Commission to assess penalties for non-compliance. HB 178 would affect only state and local governments while HB 202 addresses only state contractors. However, it is important to move some E-Verify legislation forward so that we have a bill to work with.
HCR 88 urges Congress to overhaul the immigration system in a manner that would result in amnesty and the importation of more foreign workers. Like the guest worker bills that already received hearings in the State Affairs Committee, this resolution should never have been under consideration.
Please call and email the members of the House State Affairs Committee to ask them to support E-Verify legislation (HB 3129) and oppose HCR 88. Talking points are included below. If your Rep. serves on the committee, your Action Board has a fax to send him/her as well.
The Immigration Reform Coalition of Texas (http://www.ircot.com/ ) requests that those who can make it to Austin come to the Capitol to testify. The hearing is scheduled for 30 minutes after the House adjourns. This means the hearing could begin as early as 2pm and go late into the evening. IRCOT suggests parking at the public parking garage at 12th and Trinity. Contact IRCOT at ircot2@yahoo.com if you need more information on testifying.

Talking Points
Citizens do not want to compete with illegal aliens for Texas jobs. Please support legislation requiring all employers to use workplace verification (HB 3129) and oppose the resolution calling for amnesty (HCR 88).
HB 3129 would require all employers to verify the eligibility of new hires to work in the U.S. This will help to put Texans back to work and save taxpayer dollars. HB 178 and HB 202 also require workplace verification but would affect fewer employers.
Texas needs workplace verification because unemployment is still unacceptably high (8.3 percent). There are over one million unemployed Texans while at least that many illegal aliens hold Texas jobs.
I cannot understand why HCR 88 -- a pro-amnesty, anti-American worker resolution -- even received a hearing in the State Affairs Committee. It must be opposed.
The American public, and Texans in particular, oppose amnesty. That’s why every amnesty proposal fails in Congress.
Please do the right thing. Support HB 3129 and oppose HCR 88. Unemployed Texans and taxpayers will thank you.
