An interesting post from http://consumerenergyalliance.org/ about Alaska and Offshore Drilling. This follows this post about Coal Regulation. This follows this previous post about the drilliling moratorium This follows this post about a creative solution to Gulf drilling and this previous article about the recent news about the ban on offshore drilling to encourage American energy independence This is a key issue to prevent money from going to hostile countries such as Iran and Venezuela. Support Jobs and the Economy: Develop Alaska’s Offshore Resources
Right now, Alaska stands ready to safely develop its abundant offshore energy resources, particularly in the Chukchi Sea – one of the largest untapped oil and gas sources in the entire world that could offer more resources than any other undeveloped U.S. energy basin.
However, due to continued delays caused by lawsuits filed against the government on various technicalities regarding offshore development, offshore operations have been kept from moving forward – keeping jobs and economic opportunity bottled-up in courts.
Though plans for development in the Chukchi Sea have already undergone a series of environmental analyses and a robust public commenting process, the federal government has issued yet another draft supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) relating to Lease Sale 193. The SEIS answers concerns expressed in the July decision of the U.S. District Court in Alaska, which sent the Chukchi Sale process back to the federal government. While the SEIS concluded that the additional analysis required by the Court was not essential and did not substantively augment the environmental analysis conducted before Lease Sale 193, this does not mean that the federal government will finally approve oil and gas operations in the Chukchi.
Consumer Energy Alliance is calling upon the federal government to listen to the public’s overwhelming support for energy development in Alaska by preventing further delays in offshore operations in the Chukchi and continuing with development as planned. Alaska and the nation need this to happen. Click here for more information.
Take Action:
