NIGERIA – Worshippers killed in bomb attack

A very interesting post from www.releaseinternational.org about a bomb attack in Nigeria. This follows this post about an attempt to disrupt the Navy SEALS. This follows this article about American energy independence and preventing money from going to hostile countries such as Iran and Venezuela. NIGERIA – Worshippers killed in bomb attack

Up to 30 Christians are now reported dead after church services in two states were attacked by suspected Islamist extremists at the weekend.

Bombs were thrown into two lecture halls at Bayero University in Kano where Christians had gathered for a Sunday morning service. Release partner Stefanos Foundation reports that attackers then gunned down worshippers as they fled the scene of the blast. At least 26 people were killed in total.

Meanwhile, in the Borno state capital, Maiduguri, Stefanos reports that gunmen attacked and killed Rev Albert Naga and three church elders during a communion service at the Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN) in Simari.

Stefanos also reports that attacks on villages around Jos in Plateau state have continued since five Christians were killed in Gwa Rim on April 24 (Prayer Alert, April 27). Last Saturday, houses were set alight in the neighbouring village of Ngwa Wereng. Then, on Monday, a Christian named David Mamai was killed in another village nearby.

Two Fulani were reportedly arrested in connection with the attack on Gwa Rim – but were later released on bail.

Release partners continue to support communities in central and northern Nigeria affected by anti-Christian violence, including relocating women and children out of troubled areas.

NEWS UPDATE:

Pakistani Christian Khurram Masih has had his trial for blasphemy adjourned until May 5. The latest hearing in his trial was on April 25. The 23-year-old’s landlord alleged that Khurram had burnt pages of the Koran to make tea – a charge Khurram denies (Prayer Alert, March 9). Desecration of the Koran carries a life sentence under Pakistan's blasphemy laws.

Khurram, who is still in custody after an unsuccessful application for bail, is being defended by lawyers provided by a Release partner.

• Pray that Christians in north and central Nigeria facing an ongoing threat of violence will know God as their stronghold, their refuge and their saviour (2 Samuel 22:3). Ask God to comfort all those who mourn and strengthen those living in fear.

• Pray that judges in the blasphemy trial of Khurram Masih will act firmly and swiftly to dismiss the case and that Khurram will know God’s peace.
