Urgent: Ask Gov., Legislators To Support E-Verify and Anti-Sanctuary Legislation
This is a special message for Numbers USA members in Texas.
Dear Texas activist,
Two or three immigration-enforcement bills are still in play as the end of session nears:
HB 12 could be scheduled for Senate floor action. A Senate committee restored its House-passed anti-sanctuary city language;
HB 2734 was returned to the House for a vote on concurrence. Although the bill concerns pardons/paroles of illegal aliens, the Senate added language from SB 9 requiring participation in the Secure Communities program; and
SB 9, the mandatory Secure Communities bill, could be scheduled for House floor action. A House committee added language that prohibits employers from knowingly hiring illegal aliens and gives employers that use E-Verify an affirmative defense against sanctions.
We need to hedge our bets in order to get some enforcement legislation passed. That means it will be necessary to push a limited agenda – mandatory E-Verify and anti-sanctuary legislation -- in all three bills. Please follow the instructions below for contacting Gov. Perry, House and Senate leaders, and your Rep. and Senator.
Action for Gov. Rick Perry
Please call and email Gov. Perry with the message:
“Texans need your help in passing legislation that makes E-Verify mandatory for all employers and bans sanctuary cities. Please talk to legislative leaders about clearing both measures as part of one of the three remaining immigration bills – HB 12, HB 2734 or SB 9.”
