This summer I’ve watched several episodes of a new cable TV series called “The Last Ship”. The premise of the show is that a deadly virus has spread around the world, decimating the population, and a doctor on board an uninfected U.S. naval vessel is the only hope of developing a vaccine to save the world.
The plot twists and challenges arising in each episode recalls the original “Star Trek”, but the reality of the current Ebola outbreak in Africa forcefully reminds me that the show is only fiction. This current epidemic is a very real danger that can’t be solved before the next commercial break.
I had to ask myself, have we gotten so used to fictional solutions for problems that we fail to think properly about real ones? The virus on TV is one that I can forget about when I hit the “off” button. It only kills fictional people who normally don’t even appear on screen. However the current Ebola outbreak has already killed several hundred people who ARE real—even though they are far away and also normally don’t appear on screen.
It would be easy to assume that the disease won’t come to the West and affect us, but that would be a mistake. The epidemic is only one plane ride away. In 1918 a world-wide flu epidemic brought on by WWI troop movements killed more than half a million Americans, and possibly as many as 100 million individuals around the globe.
In watching the show, I’m certain that the doctor on “The Last Ship” will develop the needed vaccine; that’s the way it works on TV! Real disease often doesn’t work that way, though. Doctors have been trying to find a cure for Ebola since it first appeared in 1976 and killed 90% of the people it infected. Fortunately, earlier outbreaks have faded—and hopefully this one will too. But it has not been because of human efforts.
What is the solution for an epidemic that is real and not on TV? The Bible taught the old-fashioned practice of quarantine long before scientists had learned how bacteria and viruses spread disease. That is still the best way to stop sickness from spreading.
However, Bible prophecy tells us that in the time before Jesus Christ’s return pestilence (another way of saying disease) will rage all around the world (See Matt:24:7). That could include Ebola and/or any number of other deadly bugs. Fortunately, scripture also tells us that Christ will return to save mankind from extinction (Matt:24:22). As much as I enjoy a happy ending on TV, this real life happy ending is going to be so much better!

Is Africa Dying Before Our Eyes?

Is Africa Dying Before Our Eyes?

Printer-friendly version

Entire countries are struggling for survival. Does the world want to help? Is it too late? Has God cursed the continent?

We have written before about the crisis of western Sudan, where armed militia known as "Janjaweed" (literally, "devils on horseback") raped, murdered and pillaged the people of Darfur. The horror and death continues with no end in sight.
Sudan's government at first denied anything was happening. Then it denied that it licensed or abetted the Janjaweed. Fearing international sanctions imposed by the United Nations, Khartoum (the seat of Sudan's government) finally allowed humanitarian organizations to enter the country to begin to care for the IDPs (internally displaced persons). And Sudan's leaders managed to get the Janjaweed to ratchet down the attacks over which they supposedly "had no control."
U.S. President George W. Bush and then Secretary of State Colin Powell correctly called what was happening a "genocide." But the UN refused to characterize it as such, which would require economic sanctions on the fragile Sudanese economy. The United States subsequently backed off from that language, perhaps because Khartoum has cooperated in the war on terror, providing the CIA with intelligence about terrorists in Muslim countries.
But they are still dying in Darfur. And it's not been easy even to count the victims. The survivors have been hesitant to talk, but the story of the inhumanity is becoming clear.
Marc Lacey of The New York Time s paints a gruesome picture: "Darfur's dead have been tossed into the bottoms of wells, dumped into mass graves, interred in sandy cemeteries and crudely cremated. Children have been snatched from the arms of their mothers and thrown into fires, villagers dragged on the ground behind horses and camels by ropes strung around their necks" ("The Mournful Math of Darfur: The Dead Don't Add Up," May 19, 2005).
Another New York Times writer, Nicholas Kristof, tells of nine young boys the Janjaweed captured, stripped and horribly mutilated, before shooting them and throwing them into the village well as a warning to others to get out (cited by Nat Hentoff, "Darfur: How Many More Will Have to Die?" Jewish World Review, June 20, 2005).
There wasn't either time or means to issue death certificates whereby an accounting could be made for the number who perished. Census figures for Sudan are woefully out of date, so they are no help either.
Many more dead than tsunami victims
Some died in the process of fleeing. Others have died from diseases directly related to malnutrition and to the lack of adequate water. The Coalition for International Justice, a nongovernmental organization (NGO), put together a sophisticated estimate, based upon a combination of sources: 400,000 dead, with people continuing to die at a rate of 500 per day.
Salih Booker, executive director of the Washington-based Africa Action, puts the figure much higher. She says that unless there is immediate help, "up to a million people may be dead by the end of this year" (ibid., emphasis added). If this estimate is anywhere near accurate, the manmade disaster of Darfur has surpassed the death toll of the "Christmas tsunami" of 2004, which so grieved the entire world.
The international community, led by the United States, is mounting the second-largest relief effort in the history of mankind to help the Darfurians. It is second only to relief for survivors of the tsunami. But the Darfur project is severely underfunded, as many are weary of the never-ending need for donations. (Even the contributions for tsunami relief are falling far short of promises made in the emotion of the moment.) Reflecting on the growing phenomenon of donor fatigue, Adam Koons of Save the Children USA lamented, "How many times can the international community bail a country out?" (op. cit., Lacey).
Complicating matters, it will soon begin to rain in Darfur. Normally, rain means life, for it brings the hope of another crop. But a relief organization's delivery of food that would take hours before the rains will take days afterwards. (And, trucks are in constant danger of being hijacked and robbed by roving bandits.) Tragically, up until two years ago, this was one of the most productive farming areas of Africa. Now it is largely paralyzed, all because of man's inhumanity to man.
How did it happen? Competing religious ideas, jealousies between rival tribes and an oppressive government all contributed to this now out-of-control disaster.
And, those who are still alive are dying in a different way: Their hope is lost. They are unable to work or to provide for their families; they see no chance of returning to their homes or lands; they are unsure that they will ever feel safe again; they have no guarantee that they will have food or water in the coming weeks and months—and they have no control over their destiny.
Twice as many dying in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
It is horrifying to see the world's powerful nations quibble over words, while the people of Darfur die. But an even greater tragedy is playing out slightly to the southwest in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Warlords, each with his private militia, battle among themselves for control of the country's considerable natural resource wealth.
But the wealth is doing little good to the Congolese who are perishing in the fighting. They are dying at more than twice the rate of Darfurians at 1,000 per day. Inexplicably, this monumental disaster is barely mentioned in the world's media. There is plenty of time and space to report on celebrity and political gossip, but next to none for this crying need.
Even though the problems persist in Darfur, it at least has caught the attention of many. Not so for the Congo. Why don't we hear about this heartbreaking catastrophe? Have the world's nations simply decided that there is no way to stop the fighting, the killing and the dying from disease and starvation?
An entire nation facing extinction
Let's now travel south nearly to the bottom of the continent to the tiny nation of Swaziland, population 1 million. That's not a very large number of people in the context of the rest of Africa. But the problem facing Swaziland is huge in proportion. Therein lies the story of this African tragedy.
A mind-numbing 426,000 of the million citizens are infected with HIV or AIDS. David Blair of The Telegraph (United Kingdom) writes, "Already, one Swazi in every 15 is a child orphaned by AIDS. In five years AIDS orphans... will make up an eighth of the population. An army of orphans can be found in every town and village ("Will This Be the First Country to Die From AIDS?" June 4, 2005).
It will only grow worse. As many of our readers are aware, a dark pall sits over the entire African continent, which is looking at the staggering figure of 80 million AIDS deaths by 2025.
Not under a special curse
Some mistakenly assume that God has cursed Africa for the sins of its ancestors. Of course, this reasoning is false. Such critics are unaware of or overlook the wealthy African empires of ages past. They also forget that the continent thrived as part of the British and other European empires (even though some exploited the people and the land).
A major cause of the current suffering is the dictatorial rule of a few selfish leaders, who enrich themselves at the expense of their people. Additional problems stem from religious superstitions and a lack of education. These lead to sin, which, in turn, leads to suffering.
Mankind is hurting itself in appalling ways. Just as Jesus said to the citizens of Judea in the first century who struggled to understand a tragedy at that time, "unless you repent you will all likewise perish" (Luke:13:3).
James wrote to the scattered Israelite tribes in the first century, taking his readers to task for the suffering their peoples were causing. "Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures" (James:4:1-3).
The U.S. government is beginning to funnel its aid through NGOs, rather than through corrupt government officials, to help meet the immediate physical needs. You may choose to contribute to them too. But the needs are too great and the momentum too overpowering for all the wealth in the world to change the course of all the disasters unfolding in Africa.
We must pray that God will send His Son to rescue the dying and to end the evils of this world forever. "Your Kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven" is more than a song and more than a sentiment. It must be the cry of the heart of every believer. Let a chorus of such prayers cascade onto God's throne every day, until He gives Christ the order, "Let's roll!" and our Savior brings true relief.
Read the good news of how God plans to do just that in the booklet The Gospel of the Kingdom . And join this true relief effort. WNP

Meriam Ibrahim and Her Family Released on Bail, But Not Free to Leave Sudan

Meriam Ibrahim and Her Family Released on Bail, But Not Free to Leave Sudan

by Jordan Sekulow | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com |
After being re-arrested less than a day after being released from death row for her Christian faith, Meriam Ibrahim and her American family have reportedly been released from the custody of Sudanese police forces on the condition that they not leave Sudan, as possible charges are brought against them.
They are not free.
Meriam and her American family were about to board a flight to freedom earlier this week, when 40 members of Sudan’s National Intelligence Security Service (known as the “Agents of Fear”) detained her along with her American husband and her two American kids – Martin, a toddler, and Maya, a newborn baby girl.  After being detained at the airport, Meriam and her American family were arrested and taken to the police station.
meriamtempSudan is accusing Meriam of attempting to use an “illegal [false] travel document” in trying to leave the country and is accusing her husband – a U.S. citizen – of being an accomplice.  It is unclear from reports if Sudan has formally charged Meriam with a crime, one that could carry with it a seven-year prison sentence, or whether they are still investigating the allegations.
Regardless, the fact remains that Meriam, her American husband, and her American kids are not free to leave the country.
Meriam’s attorney stated, “Meriam was released after a guarantor was found, but, of course, she would not be able to leave the country.”  Unlike bail in the U.S., in Sudan a guarantor would not just forfeit money, that person may actually have to stand in the place of Meriam criminally were she to flee the country.
According to press accounts, her lawyer also stated that Meriam and her American family are now in the U.S. embassy.  This is a critically important development for her safety.  However, they are not free to leave Sudan.
The United States must never let Meriam and her family who are U.S. citizens leave their sight from this point forward.  There were reports that when Meriam was taken into custody at the airport, it was done in the presence of U.S. diplomatic personnel.  This can never happen again.
Yesterday, a U.S. State Department spokesperson said that “from our perspective, Meriam has all of the documents she needs to travel to and enter the United States. It’s up to the Government of Sudan to allow her to exit the country.”
Later that day the State Department released a short statement, providing:
The State Department has received confirmation that Meriam Ibrahim Ishag has been released on bail and is no longer being detained at a Sudanese police station. She and her family are in a safe location and the Government of Sudan has assured us of the family’s continued safety. The Embassy remains highly engaged in Ms. Ishag’s case. We will provide more information as it becomes available consistent with privacy laws.
The Obama Administration, and the State Department in particular, must continue to aggressively demand freedom for Meriam and her American family.  While not physically in the custody of the Sudanese government at the present time, Meriam and her American family are not truly free until they are safely in America.
It would be an act of diplomatic malpractice were the U.S. to allow Meriam and her American family to fall back into the hands of the Sudanese government – the government that just days ago planned to execute her for her Christian faith.
Hundreds of thousands of Americans have demanded Meriam’s freedom.  Meriam expressed her gratitude for that support when she left the police station, telling the BBC, “I would like to thank those who stood beside me.”
At the ACLJ, we will not rest until Meriam, Martin, Maya, and Daniel, their American husband and father, are safely home.  Join us by urging the Obama Administration to take direct action to bring them home.

Ted Cruz to President Obama: Demand the Release of Meriam Ibrahim

by Steven Ertelt | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com
Senator Ted Cruz delivered a message to President Barack Obama yesterday during his speech at the Road to Majority Conference Thursday afternoon: demand the release of Meriam Ibraham. His speech follows on the heels of a large rally outside the White House that he and pro-life groups led.
Meriam is the Christian woman who was jailed when she was pregnant and was forced to give birth in chains in a Sudanese prison as she awaits a death sentence ad brutal flogging by Muslim officials because of her Christian faith.
The Daily Caller has more:
Processed with VSCOcam with c1 presetCruz also made a call for the president to stand up and demand the release of Meriam Ibrahim, the wife of an American citizen who was sentenced to 100 lashes and hanging for refusing to deny Christ.
“And then you look to another example. The example of Meriam Ibrahim,” Cruz said. “Meriam Ibrahim is someone every elected official, every American should be speaking out. Meriam Ibrahim is a young woman. She’s a wife. She’s a mother, and she is in prison in Sudan for the crime of being a Christian.”
“Every one of us needs to be lifting Meriam Ibrahim in prayer, but every bit as important, we need leadership,” Cruz continued. “The president of the United States should stand up and speak on Meriam Ibrahim.”
Ibrahim, 26, joined the Catholic Church shortly before she married U.S. citizen Daniel Bicensio Wani in December 2011. Because of that, Catholic Church officials are also speaking up on her behalf.
SIGN THE PETITION! Save Meriam Ibrahim, Don’t Hang her to Death for Her Faith
The Archdiocese of Khartoum has urged the judiciary in Sudan to review her case and overturn the death sentence.
“There are many people trying to persuade Meriam to renounce Christianity in order to be freed, but she is refusing. Some people are pleading with her husband to convince her to abandon Christian faith in order to save her life, but to no avail,” the archdiocese said.
“The Catholic Church — Archdiocese of Khartoum — expresses deep regret over the way the case is being handled in the court,” with disregard of “Meriam’s moral and religious beliefs,” it said.
“We are pleading with the judiciary and other concerned authorities to review the case … and to bring it to a reasonable end,” it said.
Meriam Ibrahim is not sentenced to die for her Christian faith for two years, until such a time as her newborn baby girl Maya is weaned, but she could be flogged within days if her appeal of her death sentence is thrown out. LifeNews recently covered the terrible nature of the flogging she will have to endure and how it will literally take her skin off of her body.
Meriam’s case has drawn international outrage. Meriam was jailed in September despite the fact she was pregnant, because she married a Christian – when authorities claim she is Muslim. Sudanese leaders suggested she may be freed weeks ago as international outrage grew – but there is still no sign of her release. She was forced to give birth to daughter, Maya, in prison, shackled to bed.
Now, human rights advocates have released a video of another woman flogged in public to highlight her case. In the video, dated 2010, the woman begs for mercy as police laugh and joke.

Sharon Osbourne: Having an Abortion Was the “Worst Thing I Ever Did”

by Steven Ertelt | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com |

You have to know Sharon Osbourne has seen and done some crazy things over the years. After all, her husband is famous hard rock singer Ozzy Osbourne.
But, in an interview, the reality star and music management guru says having an abortion was the worst thing she ever did.sharonosbourne
Sharon Osbourne, reality star and talent-show judge on the British X Factor TV show, suffered three miscarriages due to damage to her cervix after having had an abortion at age 17.
She recounted: “I had an abortion at 17 and it was the worst thing I ever did . . . I went alone. I was terrified. It was full of other young girls, and we were all terrified and looking at each other and nobody was saying a bloody word. I howled my way through it, and it was horrible. I would never recommend it to anyone because it comes back to haunt you. When I tried to have children, I lost three — I think it was because something had happened to my cervix during the abortion.”
Last month, R&B singer Toni Braxton shared about her own remorse following an abortion.
The “pro-choice” side of the abortion debate bends over backwards to deny abortion could ever pose any problems for women. They deny the damage abortion does to women — the medical problems, the mental health issues, the damaging of relationships with friends and family, and the destruction of relationships with God.

Singer Toni Braxton understands the grief of an abortion. Not only does she regret the abortion she had, she’s worried about the spiritual ramifications of it. Not only has abortion been proven to cause a host of mental health problems for women, but spiritual problems as well — as women struggle with forgiving themselves and finding forgiveness from God.
Even 10 years later, the well-known R&B singer struggles to come to grips with her abortion and taking her own child’s life.

How to Fight Back Against What #YesAllWomen Deal With Everyday

How to Fight Back Against What #YesAllWomen Deal With Everyday

Printer-friendly version

A sickening tragedy has resulted in a tremendous online hashtag campaign to bring to light the outrageous daily misogyny that women (yes, all women ) face from men.
There are 7 people dead, including the gunman, in a case of an unstable man whose twisted expectations of what he deserved to get from women went on a killing spree in retribution.
I could lament the societal conditions that have contributed to something like this even being possible (sex sells after all, and the cultural expectation to be able to "experiment" in your college with promiscuity has been cemented for decades), but instead I just want to give three things we can do individually that can positively impact our own worlds.

1. Don't take part in the objectification of women

Pornography is the most obvious form of objectification (from the most hardcore end of the spectrum to the "leering laddie" end), but it can be more subtle than that, too. For instance, this woman explains that she apologizes when not wearing make-up —as if her value is contingent upon her looks. I'm not certain what my response would be if a woman were to say that to me (I'd like to think that I'd protest her apology), but from now on I'll make sure my reaction reinforces her value above what she looks like.

2. Make it a point to compliment women on things other than their looks

Female family members and friends of mine have explained this to me before, and it makes a lot of sense. Our cultural tendency is to compliment girls from a super young age on how pretty they are, often leaving aside other accomplishments they may make. A lifetime of these compliments on both a macro and micro scale throughout our society would serve to reinforce those values; people tend to live up to the expectations that are set for them (which is why you see generational cycles, such as the cycle of poverty or the cycle of spousal abuse).
So make it a point not to follow that norm. Compliment young girls on their talents in school, their interest in reading or biology or astrophysics or LEGO. The way I think about this is, everybody else in the world will be continually telling them they're pretty, so there's lots of room for me to compliment the girls I know on anything else.
And when it comes to adults, whether it be strangers or friends, make your compliments (you are complimenting your friends regularly, right?) large in variety. Learn when to compliment on appearance, which is important, but learn how to do it well, at the correct time, and never at the expense of other genuine accolades.

3. Speak up if somebody you know expresses misogynistic attitudes

My mom is excellent at speaking up when somebody starts badmouthing another person in their absence (she always speaks up with praise about that person in their defense); doing so with specific regard to misogynistic attitudes is another small way to help counteract those attitudes in our own circles. If you're a guy hanging out with your bros at the pub and the conversation turns to women, speak up against any attitudes you may detect that objectifies or disrespects women. You may lose bro points or be the odd man out that night, but honestly, the sign of true manhood is the ability and willingness to stand up for what you believe in despite peer pressure.
Christians are expected to do this kind of behavior in everything they do (Ephesians:4:15).

4. Do all these things out of love

I said I was only listing three things, but the fourth one is kind of the underlying foundational thing to remember all the time anyway. The motivation for everything we do as a Christian is love. God loved us so much that His son died for our shortcomings in order that we may live forever (John:3:16, 1 Peter:2:23). Every human being is destined for that glorious life. Paul even wrote that being a Christian erases our physical distinctions, spiritually speaking (Galatians:3:26-28 explains why racism and bigotry is un-Christian, and likewise why degrading women is also ungodly).
So as a child of God, each woman is worthy of respect and honor. Us men must take it upon ourselves to protect that honor and respect. Both passively by not contributing to the culture of objectification but also actively by standing up against those attitudes when we see them. More specifically, we must treat the women we know and love (friends, family, spouses) with that respect and dignity as if Jesus Christ Himself were standing there listening to and watching our conduct.
#YesAllWomen deserve honor, dignity and respect. Let's do our part to give them what they deserve.

Your Day in Muslim Immigration: New York Paki Murders Wife Over Veggie Meal Instead of Halal Meat; Lawyer Argues “Beating Women Custom in Paki”

By Debbie Schlussel
Time for another edition of “GUESS. THE. RELIGION.” Or “Your Day in Islam.” I think I have a great new advertising slogan for “comprehensive immigration reform”: Muslim immigration . . . Yeah, we need more of that. Great tag line for stories like this:
noorhussainislamiccrescent.jpg

A Pakistani immigrant beat his wife to death in their Brooklyn home after she made the mistake of cooking him lentils for dinner instead of the hearty meal of goat meat that he craved, according to court papers. Noor Hussain, 75, was so outraged over the vegetarian fare that he pummeled his wife, Nazar Hussain, 66, with a stick until she was a “bloody mess,” according to prosecutors and court papers. “Defendant asked [his wife] to cook goat and [his wife] said she made something else,” the court papers indicated as Hussain’s murder trial opened on Wednesday.

“The conversation got louder and [his wife] disrespected defendant by cursing at defendant and saying motherf-?-ker, and . . . defendant took a wooden stick and hit her with it on her arm and mouth.” Defense attorney Julie Clark admitted Hussain beat his wife — but argued that he is guilty of only manslaughter because he didn’t intend to kill her. In Pakistan, Clark said, beating one’s wife is customary.“He comes from a culture where he thinks this is appropriate conduct, where he can hit his wife,” Clark said in her opening statements at the Brooklyn Supreme Court bench trial. “He culturally believed he had the right to hit his wife and discipline his wife.”
Let’s hear it for Muslim culture! And immigration to America.
Reader Worry01: “Islamic family values.”
Muslim immigration . . . Yeah, we need more of that.
New Twitter hashtag: #bringbackmywifewhomImurderedoverlentilsbecausemyculturesaysitsokay
Think it’ll work? Nah.
***
By the way, this is the kind of story that the idiots from PETA (or as we call it here, PUTAh–People for the Unethical Treatment of Animals and humans) would take and completely ignore the Muslim angle. I can just here it now: meat = murder.

Sudan Faces International Pressure to Release Pregnant Woman Sentenced to Death

Sudan Faces International Pressure to Release Pregnant Woman Sentenced to Death

by Steven Ertelt | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com |

The government of Sudan is facing mounting international condemnation of its handling of Meriam Ibrahim and its decision to sentence the pregnant Christian woman to death for refusing to accept Islam.
An Islamic court sentenced Meriam, 27, to be flogged for adultery for marrying a Christian man and to be hanged to death for refusing to renounce her Christian faith.  Meriam is currently eight months pregnant with her second child, and has been imprisoned along with her 20-month old toddler since February. There are growing concerns about the health of her unborn baby.
sudan5Meriam is married to Daniel Wani, an American citizen who has ties to New Hampshire. Meriam was reportedly born to a Sudanese Muslim father and was raised as a Christian by her Ethiopian Orthodox mother.
For three months, the young Christian wife — now almost eight and a half months pregnant — has been shackled in a Sudanese prison on death row. Authorities, who refuse to recognize her marriage to a Christian man, have sentenced her to 100 lashes for adultery and execution for her faith.
Her frantic husband, who continues to plead with the U.S. Embassy for help, flew from New England to Khartoum to visit his wife, Meriam Ibrahim — and was beside himself to find her bound up and swollen. For now, authorities refuse to release his son to Daniel, because of his faith. Although the court gave Meriam days to recant her Christianity, she refused, saying, “I am a Christian, and I will remain a Christian.”
SIGN THE PETITION! Save Meriam Ibrahim, Don’t Hang her to Death for Her Faith
Now, as the London Guardian newspaper reports, Sudan is facing heavy international criticism.
Governments, the UN and human rights groups have called on the Sudanese government to immediately release Meriam Yahya Ibrahim, 27, and overturn both her death sentence and sentence of 100 lashes. More than 100,000 people have backed a call by Amnesty International to release Ibrahim.
Her lawyers have lodged an appeal against the sentence, which may be heard in Khartoum this week.
Ibrahim has been told that her execution will be deferred for two years to allow her to deliver and then wean her baby.
Her husband, Daniel Wani, who left Sudan for the US in 1998, has travelled to Khartoum to try to secure the release of his wife and son. He said Ibrahim was being denied medical treatment and he had not been allowed to visit her or Martin, according to media reports.
The Sudanese authorities have reportedly refused to release the child to his father’s care because of his Christian faith.
The UK government has summoned Sudan’s chargé d’affaires in London to the Foreign Office to hear its “deep concern”.
In a statement, Foreign Office minister Mark Simmonds said: “This barbaric sentence highlights the stark divide between the practices of the Sudanese courts and the country’s international human rights obligations.” The Sudanese government must respect the right to freedom of religion or belief, he added.
US senators Kelly Ayotte and Roy Blunt have raised the case with the secretary of state, John Kerry, calling for “immediate action and full diplomatic engagement to offer Meriam political asylum and secure her and her son’s safe release”.
The department’s spokeswoman,, Jen Psaki, said on Wednesday the US was “deeply disturbed” by the case and called on Khartoum to respect the right to freedom of religion. The Canadian and Dutch governments have also expressed concern.
The UN has also urged Sudan to adhere to international law. “We are concerned about the physical and mental wellbeing of Ms Ibrahim, who is in her eighth month of pregnancy, and also of her 20-month-old son, who is detained with her at the Omdurman women’s prison near Khartoum, reportedly in harsh conditions,” said Rupert Colville of the UN Human Rights Office in Geneva.
Gabriel Wani, Daniel’s brother, who also lives in Manchester, New Hampshire, said Ibrahim was in poor physical shape. “Meriam is in a bad condition, she is eight months pregnant. She needs proper medical attention and she needs medical supplies. She’s bleeding and nothing is being done,” he told the Daily Mail.
“She needs to eat well but she is just getting the prison food. When she had her first son it was a very difficult birth, she lost a lot of blood. She is supposed to have check ups with the doctor but it isn’t happening. We are praying for a miracle.”

WTF?! Obama Kerry Condemned Nigerian Bombing of Boko Haram Islamic Terrorists

A very interesting post from www.debbieschlussel.com about the U.S. condemning Nigeria for attacking Boko Haram. WTF?! Obama Kerry Condemned Nigerian Bombing of Boko Haram Islamic Terrorists

By Debbie Schlussel
On Saturday, the Obama Administration condemned the Nigerian government for bombing Islamic terrorists. Yup, the same Islamic terrorists who kidnapped nearly 300 mostly Christian girls, forcibly converted them to Islam, and vowed to sell them into sex slavery. That outrageous behavior by the Islamic terrorists isn’t condemned nearly as strongly by the Obamaniks as the Nigerian government response. Can you imagine if FDR and Harry Truman condemned the British for bombing Dresden and urged “restraint”? It’s the same deal here. It’s as if Obama were criticizing America for defeating Japan by dropping the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Were any innocent civilians killed at Omaha Beach and Normandy? Well, then, maybe we should condemn the Americans who bravely fought the Nazis there, right?

When reader Duane sent this to me, my response was “WTF?!” But with Obama and company I should be jaded upon jaded and there should be the end of the use of WTF. Because nothing surprises anymore. Not the weakness, not the pandering, promoting, and appeasement of Muslims, nothing.
Nigerian warplanes struck militant camps in the northeast on Friday in a major push against an Islamist insurgency, drawing a sharp warning from the United States to respect human rights and not harm civilians. Troops used jets and helicopters to bombard targets in their biggest offensive since the Boko Haram group launched a revolt almost four years ago to establish a breakaway Islamic state and one military source said at least 30 militants had been killed.

But three days after President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency in the northeast, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry issued a strongly worded statement saying: “We are … deeply concerned by credible allegations that Nigerian security forces are committing gross human rights violations, which, in turn, only escalate the violence and fuel extremism.” . . . Washington “condemns Boko Haram’s campaign of terror in the strongest terms”, Kerry said, but urged Nigeria’s armed forces to show restraint and discipline.
Huh? Extremism is already fueled and escalated quite high. Responding to and trying to defeat it is not fueling or escalating anything, except the hastening of the terrorists’ defeat.
Nigerian defense spokesman Brigadier-General Chris Olukolade said in a statement that troops destroyed several Boko Haram camps and weapons stockpiles in forests around Borno state, epicenter of the uprising and relic of a medieval Islamic empire: “Heavy weapons including anti-aircraft and anti-tank guns were also destroyed in the process,” he said. “The special operations … resulted in the destruction of much of the insurgents’ weapons and logistics such as vehicles, containers, fuel dumps and power generators.” He said the death toll amongst the insurgents would be verified during mopping up exercises in the camps, including in the Sambisa game reserve in Borno state. A military source said at least 30 insurgents had been killed in one operation.
This, my friends, is how you win a war. You drop bombs and kill people. You destroy buildings and lives. Again, it’s war. And Islam is at war with Nigeria. This is the only way you fight it. Period. This stuff about not harming civilians is total BS. How many “innocent civilians” were killed in World War II? Hundreds of thousands. Does that mean we should have just given a White flag to the Nazis and surrendered to them and the Japanese? Insane.
But, sadly, America–whether it’s Obama or Bush before him–has never noticed that Islam is at war with us, just as it is at war with Nigeria and every other country that is not yet Islamic but “meant to be” in the grand plan. Islam is at war with us and Nigeria, but we are not at war with Islam. We are at peace with appeasing and ultimately losing everything to it.
Boko Haram murdered over 10,000 Nigerians since its founding in 2002. And in the world according to Barack, the country should just look the other way and do nothing. Again, simply insane.
But, hey, I guess Twitter hashtags will do the trick in defeating Islamic terrorists, right?

Oh, and here’s another schmuck:
“A state of emergency appears to be a further step toward responding to the crisis in the north through military rather than political means,” a former U.S. ambassador to Nigeria, John Campbell, wrote in a blog. “The brutality of the Nigerian security services appears to generate support for the Islamists.”
In case you were wondering, Campbell was U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria under President Bush, from 2004-2007, and he looked the other way as Boko Haram grew and murdered. Appeasement is the name of the game on both sides of the infected appeasement aisle.

Editorial: The Hashtag war against Boko Haram

Editorial

This week we got to see the U.S. finally react to Boko Haram. This after years of refusing to call the group a terrorist group despite their history of murdering non-Muslims in Nigeria. However, the only action the U.S. is likely to take is to start a twitter war. We shall see!

Alhamdillullah [Praise allah], Obama Lifts Scrutiny of Fliers From Muslim Nations

A very interesting post from www.debbieschlussel.com about the U.S. ending scrutiny of passengers from Islamic nations. This follows this post about  the teen stowaway on a Hawaiian airplane. Alhamdillullah [Praise allah], Obama Lifts Scrutiny of Fliers From Muslim Nations

By Debbie Schlussel
Just over a week after Barack Obama officially hired Muslim extremist Nawar Shora to be a Senior Policy Advisor for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the Obama administration removed strict screening requirements for travelers to the U.S. from 14 “terrorism-prone” (translation:  Muslim) countries.

If you are traveling to the U.S. from Algeria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and other assorted world paradises of the Islamic persuasion, now is your time to do Undie-Bomber, The Sequel.
The extra checkpoint scrutiny for these people has been removed, and, predictably, applauded by the usual whiner suspects from  CAIR, the Muslim Public Affairs Council (whose chief honcho’s wife, Dr. Layla Al-Marayati, heads a HAMAS-enabling charity).
The Obama administration is lifting an emergency order that has required extra airport screening of all passengers flying to the USA from 14 terror-prone countries, two senior administration officials said Thursday.
The emergency order was implemented after the attempted bombing of an airliner over Detroit on Christmas Day.
The new system will treat all passengers flying into the USA the same way, regardless of nationality, said the officials, who were briefed on the policy. They spoke on the condition of anonymity because the policy is not being announced until today.
Back to the same old failed “security” policy, which failed to catch the Undie-bomber.
The policy is the Obama administration’s latest effort to tighten international aviation security since a Nigerian man, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, boarded a flight in Amsterdam allegedly carrying explosives in his underwear. Authorities said Abdulmutallab attempted to blow up the jet, which landed safely in Detroit.
“Tighten” security? Like eating a brick of cheese “tightens” calorie intake.
In early January, the administration required foreign airports to give extra checkpoint scrutiny to anyone flying to the United States from one of 14 countries or who is a citizen of one of those countries.
Islamic groups such as the Muslim Public Affairs Council assailed the policy as profiling because most of the countries, such as Algeria, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia, are predominantly Muslim.
The policy being phased in this month will use intelligence snippets about terrorists whose full names are not known.
Authorities will put together information such as a terrorist’s partial name, facial features, recent travel history or home country. U.S.-bound passengers who match those descriptions will face extra checkpoint screening at foreign airports, according to one of the administration officials.
The system is tailored toward intelligence information and possible threats, rather than stopping people of a particular nationality, the official said.
Since government computer systems used for these purposes have repeatedly failed and have been shown to be boondoggles, good luck with that.
Though the Bush administration–always pandering to Muslims, as well–never had extra scrutiny for travelers from Islamic countries, it should have.  And just because Obama briefly, only slightly got it for a scintilla of time–only because a Muslim’s underwear failed to detonate–doesn’t mean it’s time to get rid of these brief, necessary security measures.  In fact, they were not enough because there should be extra scrutiny for Muslims coming to America from all nations, not just 14 Muslim nations.
As I always say, America . . . Desperate But Not Serious.
