Coming: A Turning Point in Mankind's History

An interesting article from www.ucg.org about the Return of Christ. This follows this post about the Feast of Trumpets (Rosh Hashanah).  For a free magazine subscription or to get this book for free click HERE! or call 1-888-886-8632.

A commentary by John Ross Schroeder

News sources the world over continue to report troubling trends. There is only one solution to it all: the return of Jesus Christ to this earth! The biblical Feast of Trumpets represents this momentous occasion.

Source: Photo.comLondon's Sunday Telegraph editorial reaction to the Norwegian mass killing in late July becomes highly appropriate for describing a whole range of disturbing trends afflicting humankind around the globe. "It is a salutary reminder that anarchy and tragedy can erupt even in the least likely venues: The complacent dictum that 'it could never happen here' no longer applies anywhere. In our dangerous and uncertain world, there are no safe havens. Nor is the nature of the threats we face predictable or consistent" (July 24).

Continuing troubles and tragedies

And yet in spite of our increasing mega-troubles, hope often springs eternal in the breast of mankind. We are all aware of the looming prospect of possibly plunging back into a global recession, perhaps much worse than the one from which we just emerged. Even more disturbing in one sense is the worldwide decline of religious freedom. A recent report by Pew Research Center's Forum on Religious and Public Life has shown that this is really happening. "Nearly a third of the globe's population—2.2 billion people—live in countries where religious persecution increased between 2006 and 2009" (Thomas S. Kidd, USA Today, August 23).

The ultimate solution is coming!

Yet we somehow believe that things can still change for the better. And we're right! Over three decades ago, an American newsweekly magazine wrote about the world needing "A Strong Hand from Somewhere." This evokes a divine solution to our minds.

Indeed divine intervention remains our only real hope for deliverance from the box canyon that mankind has willingly entered, but without fully realizing how. Jesus Christ promised a solution from above which would occur before humanity destroyed itself from the face of the earth (see Matthew:24:21-22[21]For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.[22]And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.). Over 300 prophecies in the Bible promise Christ's return to planet earth to save us from ourselves. "Behold the Lord God shall come with a strong hand and His arm shall rule for Him. Behold His reward is with Him, and His work [of salvation] before Him" (Isaiah:40:10Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.).

One of God's annual Holy Days commemorates Christ's second coming to planet earth where He was before some 2,000 years ago. Many Christians celebrate this benchmark, world-shaking event by observing the little-known and even less-understood Day of Trumpets. Christ arrives on this earth at the seventh and last Trump. "Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud [angelic] voices in heaven, saying, 'The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever" (Revelation:11:15).

This whole story is told in our free booklets God's Holy Day Plan: The Promise of Hope for All Mankind and You Can Understand Bible Prophecy. Request both in print today or download them from our website.

This follows this post about immigration enforcement laws finally being enforced in Alabama. This follows this post about how to Report Illegal Immigrants such as the 30,000 openly illegal immigrants in the border town of El Paso, where President Barack Obama recently bashed immigration enforcement!  For more that you can do to get involved click HERE and you can read the very interesting book shown HERE!

And Remember when contacting public officials to please be firm but respectful. Any over the top messages could result in law enforcement action against you. Just let these politicians know that you are aware of what they have done and that you intend to remove them from office in the 2012 elections.

Oppose Amnesty/Legalization

■Rep. Bachmann earns an Excellent rating because her actions and statements have clearly opposed mass legalizations, have been recent and have opposed all kinds of incentives that make it easier for illegal aliens to remain in the U.S.■At the GOP Presidential debate on September 12, 2011, Rep. Bachmann said: " I think that the American way is not to give taxpayer subsidized benefits to people who have broken our laws or who are here in the United States illegally. That is not the American way. "

Source: http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1109/12/se.06.html  ■Most recently, she voted against the 2010 DREAM Act amnesty.

Source: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.R.6497  ■The following is from Rep. Bachmann's House website: "The last time our immigration laws were overhauled was in 1986, when Congress granted amnesty to almost three million illegal immigrants in the U.S. and promised increased border security in the near future. Twenty years later, the number of illegal immigrants in our country has quadrupled, with no end in sight. Rather than repeating the mistakes of our past, I believe Congress must work to secure our nation’s borders and enforce the immigration laws already in place. Once this is achieved, improvements to the current system can be considered."

Source: http://bachmann.house.gov/Issues/Issue/?IssueID=4316  ■At the Republican debate on September 7, 2011, Rep. Bachmann said: "I met with a number of people, and it's very interesting. The Hispanic-American community wants us to stop giving taxpayer-subsidized benefits to illegal aliens and benefits, and they want us to stop giving taxpayer-subsidized benefits to their children as well."

Secure Border & Fence

■Rep. Bachmann has co-sponsored bills, voted for legislation and spoken in the media in support of finishing the border fence and increasing armed personnel on the border.

■Rep. Bachmann has been a consistent supporter of border security and Border Patrol officers. Bachmann has cosponsored the SAVE Act and voted to increase funding for the border fence.

Source: https://www.numbersusa.com/content/my/congress/1243/gradescoresheet/career  ■In May 2010, Rep. Bachmann said she was disappointed that President Obama didn't send more National Guardsmen and women to protect the border and reiterated the need for a physical border fence.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Implement Entry/Exit

■Rep. Bachmann has done or said nothing about fully implementing an entry/exit system for foreign students, tourists and temporary workers.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Support Local Enforcement

■Rep. Bachmann has consistently and recently co-sponsored bills, voted for legislation and spoken in the media in support of state and local "force multiplier" enforcement of immigration laws.■Rep. Bachmann has supported the SAVE Act and the CLEAR Act, bills that would make it easier for local law enforcement to enforce immigration statutes.

Source: https://www.numbersusa.com/content/my/congress/1243/gradescoresheet/career  ■During a March, 2008, interview with Bill O'Reilly, Rep. Bachmann agreed that state and local law enforcement officers should be required to ask for proof of immigration status during traffic stops.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Punish Business Violators

■While in Congress, Rep. Bachmann has co-sponsored the bipartisan SAVE Act, which would mandate E-Verify and punish those businesses that knowingly hire illegal workers. She fails to receive an excellent rating because she has not cosponsored the legislation in the current Congress.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tackle Refugee Fraud

■In 2007, Rep. Bachmann supported the Forbes amendment to H.R. 2638, which would have prevented funds pursuant this bill from being used to extend the temporary protected status of a country.

End Birthright Citizenship

■During an August, 2011, campaign stop in South Carolina, Rep. Bachmann said she thinks it is possible through legislation to stop the "anchor baby" problem of children born to mothers living illegally in the United States. When that happens she said, "A whole new set of implications arise for the United States. I do not believe that the American taxpayer should be paying benefits to people who are in the United States illegally."

Source: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/08/26/bachmanns-plea-to-south-carolina-voters/  ■During the 110th Congress, Rep. Bachmann cosponsored H.R. 1868, the Birthright Citizenship Act of 2009. She does not receive an excellent rating because she has failed to cosponsor the legislation in the current Congress.

Help Stop the Radical 'Environmentalists'‏

http://resourcefulearth.org/sign-the-petition-001/

Why do they want to kill the essential resources of capitalism and democracy?

It's simple: Capitalism and human progress are the antithesis of radicals' planned enviro-topia because they believe man and all we have achieved is the scourge of earth.

Unfortunately more and more people are being fooled into following the radical enviro-conspirators down this dangerous path. Our crashing stock market, growing unemployment- and Chinese control of essential minerals and economic ascendency are signs of their success.

Don't be fooled - they have a vision for America and it's not one either you or we share.

Resourceful Earth, a project of the Competitive Enterprise Institute, is ready to kick some green and take the fight to them.

Our sole focus is to free the American resources of capitalism available under our feet that have been held hostage by Radical greens and their complicit EPA.

You know what will destroy the Radical Environmentalist Agenda to destroy our nation?

They lose when we can produce cheap gas, affordable electricity from coal, and develop vast domestic supplies of minerals like copper and rare earths.

They lose if we create TENS of THOUSANDS of new AMERICAN natural resource jobs.

The radicals know it! That's why they are so strenuously fighting every plan to drill or mine.

And the activist EPA is carrying out this radical agenda.

Here's what we will do to fight back:

SIGN OUR PETITION to Demand CONGRESS rein in the out-of-control-power of the EPA that is stalling and killing American resource development.
http://resourcefulearth.org/sign-the-petition-001/

We are prepared to take the fight to them - all it takes is for you is sign the petition and join with us.

Together we will dismantle the green agenda and restore American prosperity.

Hey, Another Plot to Blow Up Pentagon & the Religion is (DRUMROLL) . . .

By Debbie Schlussel

Yup, you guessed it.  The “Religion of Peace.”  A Muslim U.S. Citizen, Rezwan Ferdaus, a grad student, planned to blow up the Pentagon using small drone planes.

Federal authorities today arrested and charged a 26-year-old Ashland man with plotting to damage the Pentagon and US Capitol with a remote-controlled aircraft filled with C-4 plastic explosives.

Rezwan Ferdaus, a US citizen, was also charged with attempting to provide material support and resources to a foreign terrorist organization, specifically to al-Qaida, in order to carry out attacks on US soldiers stationed overseas, the US attorney’s office said in a statement.

And here’s my fave part, courtesy of U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz:

She added, “I want the public to understand that Mr. Ferdaus’ conduct, as alleged in the complaint, is not reflective of a particular culture, community or religion. In addition to protecting our citizens from the threats and violence alleged today, we also have an obligation to protect members of every community, race, and religion against violence and other unlawful conduct.”

Uh-huh. Keep tellin’ yourself that, honey. The perpetrators are almost always from one religion, one culture, one ethnic background. And the obligation to protect the rest of us from them isn’t really taken that seriously, as I can tell you from personal experience.

Federal prosecutors said that Ferdaus, a Northeastern University graduate with a physics degree, began planning to commit violent “jihad” against the US in early 2010.

He allegedly obtained mobile phones and modified them to act as switches for improvised explosive devices, and provided them to FBI undercover agents, believing the devices would be used against US soldiers overseas. Prosecutors said that in a June 2011 meeting, he “appeared gratified” when he was told that one of his triggers had killed three US soldiers and injured four or five others in Iraq.

“That’s exactly what I wanted,” Ferdaus allegedly said. Ferdaus delivered more of the devices and was anxious each time to know if they had worked and how many Americans had been killed.

In recorded conversations beginning in January, Ferdaus allegedly also told a cooperating witness that he planned to attack the Pentagon using aircraft similar to “small drone airplanes” laden with explosives and guded by GPS devies.

In April, he allegedly expanded his plans to include attacking the US Capitol. In May and June, he allegedly delivered two thumb drives to agents that contained detailed plans of his proposed attacks.

In May, he allegedly traveled to Washington, conducting surveillance and taking photos of targets, as well as his proposed launch site, East Potomac Park. He told an undercover agent after his Washington visit that he wanted to couple his “aerial assault” with an armed ground attack, involving six people with automatic firearms.

Between May and September, prosecutors said, he ordered and acquired materials for his plans, including a remote controlled aircraft. He also received from undercover agents on Tuesday “(what he believed to be) C-4 explosives, six fully-automatic AK-47 assault rifles (machine guns) and grenades,” prosecutors said in a statement.

One Muslim grad student out of many thousands in America–some U.S. citizens like he is and others here on student visas–wishing and/or actually planning to do the same.

Alabama Police Prepare to Enforce Tough New Immigration Law

Alabama Police Prepare to Enforce Tough New Immigration Law

Topic: State Laws Immigration illegal legal

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Police in Alabama are getting ready to enforce what is considered by many as the toughest immigration law in the nation.

Beginning Thursday, authorities can question people suspected of being in the country illegally and hold them without bond, and officials can check the immigration status of students in public schools, Gov. Robert Bentley said.

Those two key aspects of Alabama's new law were upheld by a federal judge on Wednesday. The governor said parts of the law take effect immediately.

"We intend to enforce it," Bentley said.

Topics = Illegal immigration, state immigration laws, immigration court rulings, Alabama immigration law

Associated Press

FOX News Network, LLC

U.S. District Judge Sharon Blackburn, a Republican appointee, wrote in a 115-page opinion that some parts of the GOP-backed law conflict with federal statutes, but others don't. Left standing were several key elements that help make the Alabama law stricter than similar laws passed in Arizona, Utah, Indiana and Georgia. Other federal judges have blocked all or parts of those.

There are three separate lawsuits against the Alabama law, including a challenge from President Barack Obama's administration. Blackburn's ruling is expected to be appealed.

John Carroll, a former U.S. magistrate judge who is now dean of Samford University's law school in suburban Birmingham, said Blackburn's ruling was mostly consistent with decisions from other states with the exception of her allowing Alabama's "stop and ask" provision, which lets police request people's immigration papers.

"I think down the line there are other arguments that can be made as the case goes forward," said Carroll.

Agricultural leaders fear the law could cost farmers money this autumn by scaring away Hispanic workers who are vital to harvesting crops statewide.

"There are some sweet potato farmers in this state it's really going to hurt. I don't know how they're going to get their crops out," said Jeremy Calvert, a farmer in rural Bremen.

Zan Green, a tea party activist in metro Birmingham, said she was happy with the decision, saying citizens of foreign countries have benefited for years through welfare, entitlements, education, medical care and child tax credits.

"Judge Blackburn's ruling is the beginning of removing the enormous financial burden of illegal immigration from the backs of Alabama citizens," she said in a statement.

The judge refused to block a section of the law that requires public schools to verify students' citizenship and report overall statistics to the state, but the immediate effect isn't clear since schools have already started. Alabama was the first state to include such a provision, so Blackburn's decision could set a blueprint should others adopt similar laws.

Immigration became a hot issue in Alabama over the last decade as the state's Hispanic population grew by 145 percent to about 185,600. While the group still represents only about 4 percent of the population, some counties in north Alabama have large Spanish-speaking communities and schools where most of the students are Hispanic.

Alabama Republicans have long sought to clamp down on illegal immigration and passed the law earlier this year after gaining control of the Legislature for the first time since Reconstruction. Bentley signed it, saying it was vital to protect jobs of legal residents.

Republican Sen. Scott Beason, one of the sponsors of the bill, was happy with Blackburn's decision and hopes, like the governor, that the entire law takes effect after appeals.

"There are still legal questions and there's still work to be done," he said.

Blackburn's orders temporarily blocked several parts of the law until she can issue a final ruling. Those measures would:

-- Make it a crime for an illegal immigrant to solicit work.

-- Make it a crime to transport or harbor an illegal immigrant.

-- Allow discrimination lawsuits against companies that dismiss legal workers while hiring illegal immigrants.

-- Forbid businesses from taking tax deductions for wages paid to workers who are in the country illegally.

-- Bar illegal immigrants from attending public colleges.

-- Bar drivers from stopping along a road to hire temporary workers.

-- Make federal verification the only way in court to determine if someone is here legally.

Dancing With the Haters: ‘DWTS’ Slam on Tea Party ALSO: GLEE SLAMS HERMAN CAIN!!!!

Here is an interesting article from http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/ about the television shows Dancing With the Stars and Glee. This follows this post  reviewing some of the movies that came out over the past weekend and  THIS POST about some movies that have been released over the past few years that you might have missed! This all  follows this post about guidelines to chosing good movies to watch yourself!

Dancing With the Haters: ‘DWTS’ Slam on Tea Party
by Warner Todd Huston

Even Dancing is not safe from left-wing attacks on Tea Partiers, sadly. Last night on the venerable dance show, fashion makeover maven Carson Kressley thought it would be a hoot to make fun of over half the voters in America with an attack on how he thinks Tea Party activists smell.

On last night’s Dancing With The Stars, funny guy Kressley hit the screen wearing a gorilla mask. Taking it off he snarked, “It still smells like a Tea Party.”

So, what are we to make of this nonsense? Is Kressley saying that Tea Party activists smell like gorillas?

Are we supposed to be laughing at that, now?

So, what do Democrats smell like? Maybe Europeans? How about reds?

I wonder what dance partner Anna Trebunskaya, who was born in Russia, thinks about that? I wonder how ABC will take attacking so much of its audience?

Whatever Anna or ABC thinks of it the bigger questions is, what do you Tea Partiers think?

Maybe you can ask ABC yourself?

Last Night on ‘Glee’: Gay Adoption and … Herman Cain?
by Jenny Erikson

The following article contains spoilers. You’ve been warned.

Hi everyone! I’m back for Week 2 of Glee, the show we all (or at least some of us) love to hate. In case you missed it, I’ll be your guide to Glee this season, breaking down the inevitable liberal indoctrination that occurs with each new episode.

As we learned last week, (gay guy) Kurt is running for student body president. (Sexually confused and dumb as wet paint) Brittany offers to be his campaign manager with a very pink and sparkly strategy, in which she likens him to a unicorn that poops cotton candy.

Excuse me, but isn’t that a conservative thing? Only our unicorns poop skittles. I’m sure they’re totally separate species. Also, we don’t liken people to mythical, candy-pooping creatures … we only liken things like free health care to them. Neither one actually exists, you know.

The heart of this episode doesn’t belong to unicorns, candy, or homosexuals – it belongs to baby mama drama. Shelby is back to cause a raucous. Shelby was the coach of Vocal Adrenaline, the arch nemesis of New Directions (thee glee club that the show revolves around).

Shelby is the adoptive mother of Beth, the biological daughter of Quinn and Puck. If you’ll remember from last week, Quinn is the chick with the new punk attitude, and Puck is the guy that everyone has done it with. To complicate matters, Shelby is also the biological mother of Rachel, the Barbara Streisand wannabe of Glee Club.

Shelby’s reason for returning is two-fold: First, she wants her daughter Beth to know her biological parents, and second, she wants to reconnect with Rachel. Because really, aren’t we all one big happy family that should get along, and isn’t every kid better off for having a ‘diverse’ upbringing?

Actually, kids are better off being raised in a two-parent household. Statistically speaking, at least. Of course there will always be variants, and no, a woman should not stay married to a man that abuses her and/or their children, and yes, I believe gay couples should be allowed to adopt.

There’s no way around the fact that a child has the best shot at succeeding at life if an intact couple raises him or her. There is nothing wrong with acknowledging that fact, while still paying homage to the multitude of amazing non-traditional parents out there that are making the absolute best of their situations.

Sorry, I get a bee in my bonnet when Hollywood tries to say that children are better served by multiple partial parents than by a stable couple. Before anyone hates on me about the gay thing, I’d like to link this post I wrote last year addressing that very issue. It seems that kids that come from households of two intact parents fare better than other kids, no matter the gender of the parents.

I keep an open mind and await further studies.

Back to Glee. Not much else of interest went on, unless of course you include Candidate Sue Sylvester briefly mentioning that her main opponent in the congressional race is a pizza magnate. Herman Cain, anyone? Godfather’s Pizza? The connection is fuzzy, but it could come into play in future episodes…

Rick Perry's Support Falls 19% Due to Illegal Immigration!

Topic: Republican GOP Republicans immigration

ALIPAC NOTE: Rick Perry's historic fall from the lead has been pinned on his support of illegal immigration trough in-state tuition Dream Act legislation and similar stances revealed during the two Florida debates. Major media outlets and numerous groups and professional sources are in agreement that Rick Perry is falling because of his positions in support of illegal immigrants. ALIPAC was the first national organization to predict "Rick Perry Is Finished" in response to Perry's comments about immigration issues in the GOP debates.

Herman Cain Leads Republican Field In Zogby Poll

Has a new frontrunner emerged?

by John Hayward

Human Events

A new Zogby poll puts Herman Cain at the top of the Republican field, as the top choice of 28% of poll respondents. (IBOPE Zogby International says the polling sample consists of “all likely voters and of likely Republican primary voters.”)

Rounding out the top three are Rick Perry at 18%, and Mitt Romney at 17%. Fourth place goes to Ron Paul at 11%. Paul’s the most solid performer in Zogby’s polling history for the 2012 GOP race – his 11% might as well be chiseled in stone.

Interestingly, this poll was conducted after the Orlando GOP debate, but before Cain won the Florida straw poll. It’s a huge surge for Cain, who was polling at 12% just two weeks previously, and was floating at a campaign low of 8% two weeks before that. Aside from that bitter 8% number, Cain has generally done quite well in the Zogby poll, usually good enough for second or third place.

On the other hand, Rick Perry’s numbers in the Zogby poll have cratered, falling 19% in just two weeks. His debut last month was also his high-water mark thus far, when Zogby had him at 41%.

Michelle Bachmann has also been slipping steadily, chugging in at 4%. That puts her just below Jon Huntsman, which is the same way she finished the Florida straw poll. Bachmann was actually the leading candidate in Zogby’s polling from June 21 through July 25… then she plunged to 9% in the next poll and continued sliding down from there.

Romney’s been holding fairly steady in the Zogby poll. He bounces a few points up and down, but seems to hover in the 15-17% range.

Zogby’s also got President Obama’s approval rating at 42%, with 57% disapproval. That’s actually a bit better than his September 5 low of 39-61. His poor approval numbers seem to hold fairly steady, while his disapproval bounces around.

As always with poll news, the usual caveats apply: it’s one poll, it might be an outlier, Zogby’s accuracy has been questioned in the past, et cetera. Still, these numbers reflect the general shape of the race pretty well: Perry started big but fizzled fast, Romney’s been playing a careful game built around damage control, Paul’s got a loyal following but can’t reach beyond it.

I’d have guessed Cain would rank a bit lower than his Zogby numbers until now, but he had one of the best weekends a candidate could ask for in Orlando, and Zobgy’s poll is telling us the same thing the Florida straw poll did. It will be interesting to compare the first batch of polls from various sources to reflect that straw poll, and Cain’s reaction to it.

IRAN – Pastor could be executed for 'apostasy' tomorrow

A very interesting post from the very interesting website http://www.releaseinternational.org/ about an impending Execution in Iran. IRAN – Pastor could be executed for 'apostasy' tomorrow

Iranian pastor Yousef Nadarkhani could be executed as early as tomorrow if he refuses to recant his faith in court today.

The pastor, who was given the death sentence for 'leaving Islam' in September 2010, has appeared in court in Rasht already this week – and has twice refused to renounce his faith. If he does so a third time today, he can then be executed at any point, in accordance with Iran's interpretation of Islamic law.

The Supreme Court upheld the death sentence in June but ruled that Pastor Yousef's case should be referred back to the lower court in Rasht to establish whether or not he was ever a practising Muslim (Prayer Alert, July 1, 2011). The Supreme Court's written verdict allowed for the death sentence to be annulled if he recanted his faith.

Judges in Rasht, Gilan province, ruled that Pastor Yousef had not in fact ever been a Muslim – but upheld the death sentence because of his 'Muslim ancestry'.

Pastor Yousef's lawyer pointed out to the court in Rasht that the judges' verdict contravened current Iranian and international law – a point that they acknowledged. But they declared that the Supreme Court's verdict was final.

Pastor Yousef was arrested in Rasht on October 13, 2009, while he was trying to register his church. Initially, he was charged with 'protesting', reportedly against Islam's monopoly over children's religious education in Iran. Later, charges against him were changed to 'apostasy' and 'evangelising'.

Middle East Concern reports that the last known judicial execution of an Iranian church leader was in December 1990 when Rev Hossein Soodman was hanged.

Religious rights charity Christian Solidarity Worldwide reports that Pastor Yousef's lawyer, Mr Mohammed Ali Dadkhah, is also facing legal difficulties. He is currently appealing against a nine-year jail sentence, delivered in July, for 'actions and propaganda against the Islamic regime'.

The Feast of Trumpets: A Turning Point in History

An interesting article from www.ucg.org about the Feast of Trumpets (Rosh Hashanah). This follows this post about the lack of peace in Jerusalem. For a free magazine subscription or to get this book for free click HERE! or call 1-888-886-8632.

The Feast of Trumpets: A Turning Point in History

The Feast of Trumpets depicts the return of Jesus Christ to earth to establish the Kingdom of God.

The Feast of Trumpets introduces the autumn festivals—representing the culmination of the present age of man and the beginning of an incredible time during which God will play a much more direct part in world events. The previous festivals constitute personal responses to the workings of God in the people He calls and chooses. But the Day of Trumpets heralds the intervention of God in the affairs of humanity on a global basis. This Holy Day represents a dramatic turning point in world history.

This particular festival also marks the beginning of the third and final feast season (Exodus:23:14Three times thou shalt keep a feast unto me in the year.; Deuteronomy:16:16Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the LORD empty:), which includes the final four Holy Days of the year.

The return of Jesus Christ!

The Feast of Trumpets depicts nothing less than the return of Jesus Christ to the earth to establish the Kingdom of God! The book of Revelation reveals a sequence of earth-shaking events heralded by angels sounding a series of seven trumpet blasts. The seventh angel's sounding of the last trumpet signifies that "the kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ" (Revelation:11:15, NIV). The Bible foretells that at this time Jesus Christ will at last return to the earth. Of all the prophecies in the Bible, this one surely heralds the most exciting news possible for this weary, sin-filled world!

The Feast of Trumpets also marks the future fulfillment of the many Old Testament prophecies that speak of a Messiah coming as a king of the line of David who will sit on the throne of Israel and rule with power and authority over all nations. The concept of a conquering Messiah was on the minds of the apostles immediately after Jesus' resurrection. When He appeared to them in those early days, they asked Him, "Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" (Acts:1:6When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?).

Even in His earthly ministry, Jesus had spoken of distinctions between His first and second comings. When Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea, questioned Him just before the crucifixion, Jesus stated clearly that He had not come to rule at that time.

"My kingdom is not of this world," Jesus told the governor. "If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here." So Pilate asked Him, "Are You a king then?" Jesus answered in the affirmative: "You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth" (John:18:36-37[36]Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.[37]Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.).

After Christ's resurrection, the apostles excitedly anticipated the fulfillment of Jesus' promises. They were aware of messianic prophecies such as Isaiah's that describe a time during which "the government will be upon His shoulder" and "of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end" (Isaiah:9:6-7[6]For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.[7]Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.).

In answer to the apostles' question as to whether He would soon establish the Kingdom, Jesus told them it was not for them to know the "times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority" (Acts:1:7And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.). Instead, Christ told them to focus on spreading the gospel—the good news—throughout the world. Later, in due time, the apostles realized that Christ's second coming was not necessarily imminent. Numerous scriptures describe the saints as eagerly looking forward to His return.

Why the symbolism of trumpets?

The excitement of this Holy Day, picturing these monumental events, is captured in the symbolism of this festival. Ancient Israel celebrated it with "a sacred assembly commemorated with trumpet blasts" (Leviticus:23:24Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation., NIV).

Actually, the word "trumpet" does not appear in this verse. The phrase "trumpet blasts" translates a single Hebrew word, teruah, which means a loud, resounding noise—a great shout or blaring, or an awakening blast. This was the sound of a "trumpet," but not the metal, musical kind also used by the Israelites. The God's Word Translation renders this phrase as "a holy assembly announced by the blowing of ram's horns." In that day a hollow animal horn, known as a shofar, was used to communicate important messages.

Such horns, blaring an alarm like a modern air-raid or tornado siren, were used to warn of impending danger, such as imminent war. As the prophet Jeremiah lamented: "O my soul, my soul! I am pained in my very heart! My heart makes a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because you have heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet [shofar], the alarm of war" (Jeremiah:4:19My bowels, my bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart maketh a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.; compare Amos:3:6Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?).

This ties in with the fact that the events of the Day of the Lord that will usher in Christ's return will be cataclysmic, announced, as already mentioned, with angels blowing trumpets (Revelation 8-9; compare Zephaniah:1:14-16[14]The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly.[15]That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness,[16]A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers.).

With their ability to transmit sound over great distances, trumpets were in ancient times excellent instruments for attracting people's attention. God even used the sound of a shofar to herald His meeting with Israel when He descended on Mount Sinai to speak the Ten Commandments (Exodus:19:16And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled.). Moreover, the shofar was used in coronation ceremonies (1 Kings:1:34And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel: and blow ye with the trumpet, and say, God save king Solomon., 39), and we've already seen that Christ assumes rule over the earth at the last trumpet. In connection with this Feast Day, Psalm:81:3Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day. exhorts, "Blow the trumpet at the time of the New Moon . . . on our solemn feast day."

Amplification of the meaning of trumpets

The writers of the New Testament revealed additional understanding of the significance of the blowing of trumpets. Notice Paul's description of the return of Jesus Christ: "For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air" (1 Thessalonians:4:16-17[16]For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:[17]Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.).

Paul also spoke of the day when the firstfruits pictured by Pentecost will be resurrected to immortal life. In 1 Corinthians:15:52In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. he says this will happen "in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed." Thus the awakening blast of this last trumpet will awaken the dead!

Although the Trumpets festival isn't mentioned by name in the New Testament, we have no valid reason for assuming that this Holy Day should not be observed today. On the contrary, the early Church used the Hebrew Scriptures as the foundation for doctrine (2 Timothy:3:16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:). Like the Ten Commandments (James:2:10-11[10]For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.[11]For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.), each of God's festivals is intimately and intricately related to the others. By keeping all of them, we can understand God's remarkable plan for humanity as it unfolds. We should not ignore some of His Holy Days while observing others.

Jesus' prophetic teaching

Near the end of Christ's earthly ministry, the apostles asked Him about the end of the present era. Notice Matthew:24:3And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?: "Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, 'Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?'"

Earlier, Daniel had prophesied about the establishment of the Kingdom of God and how the saints, or God's people, would inherit that Kingdom (Daniel:2:44And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.; 7:18). Like the disciples, however, Daniel did not understand when the Kingdom would come.

Jesus, in response to His disciples' questions, laid out for them a series of events that would lead up to His return. He mentioned to them religious deception, wars, famines, disease, earthquakes and other calamities (Matthew:24:4-13[4]And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.[5]For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.[6]And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.[7]For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.[8]All these are the beginning of sorrows.[9]Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.[10]And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.[11]And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.[12]And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.[13]But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.). He characterized the time of His return as an era of hatred and lawlessness. In this setting Jesus said, "This gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come" (verse 14).

More details in the book of Revelation

Later Jesus Christ revealed many more details about this pivotal time. The book of Revelation is described as "the Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place" (Revelation:1:1). Here Christ repeated through the apostle John the same events He had described to His disciples decades earlier. Now, however, Jesus used the symbolism of a series of seals He would open one by one (Revelation 6).

After this, at the beginning of God's anger against the disobedient nations, seven plagues will be poured out on a sinning world, with a trumpet blast announcing each, as we've seen (Revelation 8-9). Finally God will send two "witnesses," or "prophets," to proclaim His truth to a rebellious world (Revelation 11). Such prophetic witness is compared to a trumpet warning (Isaiah:58:1Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.). Tragically, the godless society of the last days will reject these two servants of God and kill them (verses 7-10).

These dramatic events set the stage for the seventh angel's trumpet sounding and Jesus Christ's return to begin the rule of His government over the entire earth (Revelation:11:15).

Of this same scenario, Matthew 24 says that "immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other" (verses 29-31).

Unprecedented events at Christ's return

Incredibly, when Jesus Christ returns to the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, the nations of the earth will gather to fight against Him (Zechariah:14:1-4[1]Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.[2]For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.[3]Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.[4]And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.). Revelation:19:19 describes this impending battle: "And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him [Jesus Christ] who sat on the horse and against His army."

Why would anyone want to fight the Messiah? The armies will try to destroy Christ because Satan has deceived the whole world (Revelation:12:9). The devil's influence will inspire the nations to fight against Jesus when He returns.

Also at the time of Christ's return, His faithful followers will be resurrected to immortality. Revelation:20:5 describes this as the "first resurrection," which is also a "better resurrection" (Hebrews:11:35Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:). This change to immortal life was the hope of early Christians and remains the fervent hope of those who understand God's plan.

In the book of Romans, Paul depicts this resurrection as a glorious deliverance from bondage: "For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God . . . because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God . . . And not only they, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body" (Romans:8:19For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God., 21, 23).

We see that, even though tragic events lie ahead, the good news is that God will intervene to save humanity and guide mankind into His abundant way of life.

Jesus Christ will return to raise His followers from death and establish God's perfect rule over the earth. This is the wonderful, inspiring meaning of the Feast of Trumpets. Christ taught us to pray to the Father, "Thy kingdom come" (Matthew:6:10Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven., KJV). How urgently we need the answer to that prayer!

Wknd Box Office: Killer Elite, Dolphin Tale, Moneyball

Here is an interesting article from http://www.debbieschlussel.com/  reviewing some of the movies that came out over the past weekend. This follows this post some of the movies from last week and  THIS POST about some movies that have been released over the past few years that you might have missed!  This all  follows this post about guidelines to chosing good movies to watch yourself!

Wknd Box Office: Killer Elite, Dolphin Tale, Moneyball

By Debbie Schlussel

It’s kinda like a three-fer weekend because there’s a fantastic family movie and a so-so movie from Hollywood that actually portrays Muslims for the murderous, anti-Western scum that they are.  Yeah, Jason Statham!  I knew I liked that dude.  And the sports movie starring Palestina Jolie’s wife ain’t bad either.   I did not see “Abduction,” starring “Team Jacob” a/k/a the talentless Taylor Lautner because they did not screen it for Detroit-area movie critics.  Since they screened even the horrid “Creature” (read my review) for us, you know what that means.

* “Killer Elite“: The best thing about this movie is when Muslims get a hitman to kill an innocent men, and when he confronts them, one of the Muslims responds with a dismissive laugh and says, “Such is allah’s will.” You know that’s how all Muslims think whenever an innocent non-Muslim (or even an innocent Muslim, of which there are very few) is killed. And I’m glad Hollywood is finally letting a movie actually have dialogue in this. Must have snuck past the HAMAS CAIR Action Network censors of all reality and facts. The second best part of this movie is when Clive Owen gives a Muslim sheikh treatment similar to (but more delicious than) the Navy SEALS Team Six treatment for Bin Laden.

Jason Statham and Robert De Niro are elite hitmen who kill for a living. But when Statham almost kills a kid, he decides he’s had enough and retires to the Australian outback. De Niro stays in it . . . for the money, and that’s his downfall. One day, Statham finds a photo of De Niro being held hostage and he must go to the kidnappers to find him.

The kidnappers are a dethroned Muslim sheikh, who is the exiled leader of a Gulf state, and his spoiled son, the prince. The sheikh looks like a cross between the Shoe Bomber and Bin Laden at age 80. The Oman-based sheikh and his son tell Statham that he must kill the three British men from the SAS (Special Air Service) who murdered his three other jihadist sons (in Iraq or Afghanistan or somewhere). If he does that, and provides proof, plus their admissions of killing his sons, then De Niro can go free. If not, well, you know what these Muslim royals do when they don’t get their way from infidels: they slaughter us. Spoiler Alert: in a ripped-from-headlines kind of twist there is a British oil deal connected with all this. Hey, remember the British release of the Lockerbie bomber in exchange for oil deals?

This movie has lots of action and chases, but I didn’t really like the clumsy, herky-jerky story in this movie. It wasn’t tightly written and seemed a little long. Plus a lot of the stunts just weren’t believable. It was also very bloody and violent. And I just wasn’t that into it. Even the reality check on Muslims wasn’t enough to make it a good movie. It was just okay.

ONE REAGAN

* “Dolphin Tale“: Aside from the presence of TrAshley “This is What a Feminist Looks Like” Judd, this is a great movie for family viewing. Great for kids, great for your whole family, and the adults will like it, too. I enjoyed it. And it’s also patriotic, with a military element. It’s based on the true story of the dolphin that got the prosthetic fin, when its real fin had to be amputated due to injuries.

A young boy who is shy and introverted sees a beached dolphin, caught in a crab trap, on his way to summer school. He tries to help the dolphin and the whale responds with affinity. After the dolphin is rescued by the local non-profit marine hospital, he visits the dolphin and develops a relationship with it (this is strictly platonic, G-rated stuff) and becomes friendly with the young daughter of the marine biologist (Harry Connick, Jr.) who is trying to help nurse the dolphin back to health. The formerly introverted boy comes alive in this setting. But the ailing dolphin’s tail must be amputated, and the marine hospital is struggling financially. After a hurricane, it’s unlikely the hospital will remain open, and no institutions want an amputee dolphin.

Meanwhile, the young boy’s cousin, a state swimming champ and Army soldier, is wounded in Iraq (or Afghanistan–can’t remember which). The young boy visits the military hospital, meets a doctor (Morgan Freeman) who specializes in prosthetics for soldiers, and the wheels start turning.

The movie is far more charming than can be conveyed in this brief review. It’s wholesome, cute, and very entertaining. If I had one problem with it, it’s that, per usual, the kid has an absentee “bad dad.” We’re told that the boy’s dad just left one day when he was young and they never heard from him again. “He doesn’t call, he doesn’t write,” the boy says. Since this is based on a true story, I wonder what actually happened to the real-life boy’s dad.

Also, in real life, the doctors (plural) who saved the whale by getting the prosthetic tale were two White doctors, that were combined into one Black guy in the movie. Yes, at the end, they show photos of the doctors, and I noticed they are obviously White. Racial politics? Probably. That’s Hollywood.

But other than that, it’s fine and enjoyable.

THREE REAGANS

* “Moneyball“: Even though I loathe Brad Pitt a/k/a Angelina Jolie’s trophy wife and find baseball to be almost as boring as curling, this was still a decent movie, though a little long and slow. Jonah Hill a/k/a Jonah Hill Feldstein was the best part of it. Even when he’s not supposed to be funny, he’s funny. The absolute best dialogue in the movie is at the beginning, when a baseball scout for the Oakland A’s voices his opposition to the drafting of a particular player because the player’s girlfriend is ugly (“only a 6″), and that shows the player has no confidence. The movie is based on the book of the same name by Michael Lewis.

It’s the early 2000′s, as the Oakland As lost the World Series, and all of their great players have signed for bigger money elsewhere. Pitt is Billy Beane, a former teen baseball phenom who chose the money over a scholarship at Stanford and didn’t make it in Major League Baseball. He became a scout for the As and is now general manager of the team. With a smaller budget of only a few tens of millions, there is no way the As can compete with rich teams like the New York Yankees until . . . until Beane meets Peter Brand (Hill), who is an employee of another team and has an economics degree from Yale.

Beane hires Brand away and makes him assistant general manager of the As, where the two of them put together a team of underrated (and, thus, low-paid) players with proven records of getting on base through walks and other non-hit methods.  It’s known as “sabremetrics,” even though I can’t remember hearing that term once in the movie, and it’s based solely on statistics, complicated mathematical formulas, and computer number-crunching.  Beane has to fight a recalcitrant scouting and coaching staff as he puts into play this new method.  Will it work?  Will Beane win the World Series with the As?  Google it, read the book, or see the movie.  Your pick.  Or, you can read this column, “The ‘Moneyball’ Myth,” by the Wall Street Journal’s Allen Barra, which says it’s not true.

I could have done without the part at the end, in which Beane’s young daughter (he is divorced) sings to him that he’s a loser. But I guess he is, because–Spoiler Alert–after all this, he turned down a $12.5 million to become GM of the Boston Red Sox.

Enjoyable and entertaining even if you don’t like sports. It’s no “The Natural, ” but good enough.

Stop California's GLBT School Indoctrination!!

An interesting story from jeastman@chapman.edu about ending the GLBT agenda in California's schools - PUBLIC and PRIVATE!. This follows this post  about the stands of the presidential candidates running against Barack Obama.  For more that you can do to get involved click  HERE and you can also get a very interesting book HERE!

John Eastman's Political and Constitutional Commentary

Greetings!

You may have heard the news. While we were all busy enjoying summer vacations with our families, the California legislature approved a new law, SB48, that will expose children as young as kindergarten to issues of sexual orientation. It requires all public schools, including charter schools, to include positive (and only positive) discussions of the "role and contributions of ... lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans ... in the development of California and the United States."

As if our schools did not have enough to worry about with the current fiscal crisis they are confronting.  Teachers are being laid off and the school year is being shortened in order to make budget ends meet.  But now the schools will have to buy whole new sets of textbooks in order to meet the new mandate, and they'll likely have to crowd out some of the existing social science and history curriculum in order to make way for this agenda-driven indoctrination.

And there is no "opt out" for parents who object!

Despite protests from parents across the state, Governor Jerry Brown signed the legislation in July, and it will take effect on January 1, 2012, unless we rise up to do something about it.

But we can do something about it! You see, we the people of this state have an important right built into our state constitution. We can repeal harmful laws like this by using our power of referendum found in Article 2, Section 9 of the California Constitution. A committee was formed two months ago to qualify a referendum for the ballot, and they are very close to securing the roughly 500,000 signatures they need to put the matter to a vote of the people.

There is a little more than one week left before signatures need to be turned in, so I hope you will join me today or this coming week to help the Stop SB48 committee get over the top.

By signing and supporting this referendum you will send a clear message to Sacramento that you do not want your parental rights taken over by the state, or our public schools diverted into indoctrination and away from their important mission of educating our children.

Will you help by downloading, signing, and mailing back this important referendum petition?  And then forward this note to five or ten of your friends?

As I said, time is off the essence.

You can learn more about the fight to overturn SB48 at the StopSb48.com website.

And thanks for your consideration of this important effort.

Perry's Weak Immigration Stances Sink Him in Florida GOP Prez. Straw Poll

By Roy Beck - posted on NumbersUSA

Not by design, Texas Gov. Rick Perry is proving that appearing to be more concerned about illegal-alien workers than about unemployed Americans doesn't work in Republican primaries. Widely expected a week ago to run away with the Florida Straw Poll yesterday, he finished in a virtual four-way tie for second, more than 20 points behind the winner.

As always among American voters, there were surely several factors behind Florida's most energized Republican voters deserting Gov. Perry. But most commentators and pollsters have included his seeming softness on illegal immigration during the Florida debate Thursday night as a crucial reason.

Strangely, the debate audience booed him while he was repeating his strong stand on securing the border. Obviously, that wasn't because the audience opposes border security but because voters have gotten wise to the fact that if the only strong enforcement stance a candidate takes is about the border the chances are that the candidate is weak on all other enforcement.

Whether or not the appearance is reality, Gov. Perry in a series of debates has given the impression that he isn't all that concerned about immigration issues as long as the borders are secure. He has been given opportunity after opportunity to show some concern for the victims of illegal immigration, but instead he spends his time talking about his compassion for illegal aliens, including suggesting that those who don't share his compassion don't have a heart.

Sen. John McCain discovered very quickly in 2007 that he would not become the GOP nominee for President in 2008 if he didn't get rid of his image as the Senate's biggest softie on immigration.  For some reason -- maybe it is the same Texas political culture that formed George Bush -- Gov. Perry appears to have believed that he could play by different rules than those that changed Sen. McCai.

Gov. Perry has come under relentless criticism from most other GOP candidates for his signing a law -- and steadfastly defending it -- to give taxpayer-subsidized in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens while denying the same benefit to U.S. citizens from other states.  My own opinion is that, while I oppose in-state tuition because it is just one more incentive for illegal aliens to remain in the country, this is a relatively minor part of our overall immigration problems.  Perry ought to be able to deflect the criticism of that action if he would come out four-square in favor of national mandatory workplace verification and other systems to take away the jobs magnet for illegal aliens and open up jobs for unemployed Americans -- and if he would promise to fully enforce the immigration laws already on the books, something never done by Pres. Bush or Pres. Obama.  But voters haven't heard or seen an ounce of interest in that direction from Perry.

Some news organizations are suggesting that Perry is unlikely to fall in the statewide voter polls as much as he did in the straw poll of local GOP Party leaders. But this loss among the most politically active Republicans in the state who were paying the most attention this week should be a sign to all candidates that treating illegal immigration as if it doesn't deserve strong, multi-faceted opposition is going to be a serious drag on a campaign.
