Dear World News and Prophecy Subscriber, Halloween is this weekend, in case you haven’t noticed. But it’s hard not to notice. Halloween has become the second-largest retail holiday in North America. It’s second only to Christmas in sales generated by the strong consumer desire to party with the dead and macabre elements. Imitating ghosts and demons may seem like harmless fun. It’s not. Playing with the darker elements of this world is inviting strong forces into your life. You do this at your own peril. I recently interviewed a lady who spent 20 years as a practicing witch. Her story was the centerpiece of a Beyond Today program called “Dancing With the Dark Side.” The program aired last week on WGN America and drew considerable comment from viewers. One viewer wrote asking for help counseling a child who wished to become a witch. Another wrote detailing the disastrous impact on his family from involvement with the dark, satanic world. As my interview with “Mary” (the pseudonym for the woman who was once a witch) shows, you do not want to go down that road. Here is part of that interview. McNeely: What do you think you were looking for when you entered into that world? Mary: Power. To be special, to be unique. McNeely: You think that’s what other people are looking for, as well? Mary: Oh yes. Yeah. I mean, you get into it seeking power to control your life, manifest or will things into your life, but the bad thing about it is after it progresses, it starts taking on a negative tone. I started out with Wicca. I started out with thinking I was just worshipping the earth because I wanted something tangible, something I could see, something I could adhere to. The equinox, the sabbaths in Wicca. It soon didn’t feel like enough. I felt compelled to check out or read books about necromancy and voodoo, and like I said, I was in it for about 20 years and there toward the end, I felt like if I hadn’t had the car wreck, I would’ve been gone, because I would’ve opened myself up to channeling. I’d already started using my own blood in my own rituals, in my own spells. I’d already started making voodoo dolls and casting bad spells on people. McNeely: Did you actually see those spells come to pass? Mary: Mhm. McNeely: You did? Mary: Yes. McNeely: Things happened? Mary: Yes. Things always happened. Mary went on to explain that people who dabble with the dark arts are looking for a power to control their lives and that of others. They end up being controlled by a darker power they do not understand. Fortunately for Mary, she escaped the hold of the dark side and is building a better life for herself. She finally is in control of her life, in a right way. Why not watch the entire Beyond Today video, “Dancing With the Dark Side,” on our BeyondToday.tv Web site? Is There Really a Devil?Satan offers a clever counterfeit path to power for those who venture into his dark world. But the tragedy is that his path is a dead-end street filled with wrecked and broken lives. Evil is a very real force in this modern world that scoffs at the existence of a spiritual dimension. This Halloween, instead of celebrating a holiday for the dead, why not educate yourself in the truth? Our booklet Is There Really a Devil? provides solid biblical teaching on the subject. Though the media often trivializes it today, there is indeed a dark spiritual world, and it wants to deceive and destroy you. Don’t let it happen. Resist it, and cling to the incredible future God has prepared for you. Keep watching!

Is it possible Satan is closer than you think - even within the church you attend? Learn what the Bible reveals.

The devil versus the church. It’s an old story. Yet in Medieval England, the north side of a church was said to belong to the devil. Now today that seems old and obsolete and yet even in modern Britain today, the north face of the church is known as "the devil’s side." That’s supposedly where the devil and his demons lurk and pounce on unknowing church-goers.
It brings the questions to mind, is the devil only on the outside of the church? Prepare to be challenged on Beyond Today as we consider: "Is the Devil in Your Church?"
[Announcer] Join our host, Steve Myers and his guests, as they help you understand your future on Beyond Today !
[Steve] We often think of the devil as being out there somewhere. But is it possible that Satan is closer than you think? Historically, churches like the one we’re visiting today have been places that you feel safe in. And yet, is it possible that the devil is in your church?
In England, on the north side of some churches, there’s a special door that’s known as "the devil’s door." Now, why in the world would a church have a door that belongs to the devil?
Well, when there is a baptism or a christening, they open the door in order to let the devil out, or let the evil spirits out of the church.
That’s an incredible thought! In order to let the devil out of the church, he had to already be in the church.
So as you think about that, is it possible that the devil is in your church? Is it possible that he’s influenced your thinking, has he influenced your understanding of the Bible?
Could the devil really be in your church? What does the Bible say? When you look at Revelation 12:9 Revelation 12:9And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceives the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
American King James Version×
it tell us: "the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."
How much of the world has Satan conned? How much has he deceived? Well if you believe your Bible, God says that Satan has fooled, not just a few, not just some - but the Word of God says he has fooled and deceived the whole world. That’s the entire world!
That includes deception in education. That’s deception in politics. That’s deception in business and you know we cannot exclude the fact that Satan has deceived religion. Religion is deceived as well. The devil has hoodwinked religion today. So we can’t help but ask, has the devil deceived your church? Has the devil deceived you? Because you’re probably thinking, "No, not my church. Not my thinking. The devil certainly hasn’t deceived me." And yet that’s exactly what the Bible says.
Now here’s an interesting example. Imagine this church. Imagine this aisle that used to be here where the pews have been removed. Imagine people walking down this aisle as they were married. How many do you suppose that might be? Now this church was build 130 years ago, so there’s probably a lot of people that were wed in the building, walked down this aisle. And I’m sure there wasn’t any question what marriage was all about, what a family was all about.
Now there was an interesting study that was done and in that particular study it compared Christians to the rest of the world. Do you know what they found? They found in this particular survey that Christians in America were almost identical to the national average when it came to being divorced. 33% of Christians surveyed were married and divorced! (Study by Barna Group; "New Marriage and Divorce Statistics Released "; March 31, 2008).
Now, you can argue with those facts. You can argue with those figures. You know maybe it’s just truly committed Christians really aren’t that high in number. But there’s one thing you can’t argue with, that there is divorce among Christians and there is no doubt what your Bible says about that. Your Bible says that God hates divorce! (Malachi 2:16 Malachi 2:16For the LORD, the God of Israel, said that he hates putting away: for one covers violence with his garment, said the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that you deal not treacherously.
American King James Version×
).
Now you might say, I’m not divorced - well that’s a good thing - but are you for marriage? You might be against divorce but are you really for marriage? If we claim to be Christian and we are truly for a godly marriage then shouldn’t we be praying with our spouse? Shouldn’t' we be teaching our children godly values? Shouldn’t we be studying the Bible together as a family? Wouldn’t that really be indicating that we are for marriage, not just against divorce - shouldn’t we be teaching our family those true values that are found in the Word of God?
That’s really showing that we truly are for marriage. Because God’s Word, His Scripture should shape our view. It should shape the way we think about adultery. It should shape the way we think about sex before marriage. It should shape the way that we feel about living together, because you know society out there accepts all of those things. It even glorifies those things! And yet the Word of God says they are unacceptable. So the question becomes, has the devil influenced your thinking?
Yeah, you may think, "Well the devil may be in some churches, but he’s not in my church. Out church, it’s not old and stodgy. We’re a church that’s really enjoyable to attend and when you leave you feel good about yourself."
Perhaps your church takes a more theatrical approach to worship. Maybe you’ve got a rock band; maybe you’ve got big-screen projection. You might just even have a coffee shop at your church. But let me ask you a question: Has your worship become entertainment?
You see true worship is not entertainment. You know you might hear some personal stories, you might hear a message about self-esteem; maybe you’re hearing messages about dealing with personal problems. But what about sin? What about the message of the Bible? What about consequences to sin?
Do you hear messages about that? Do you hear messages that challenge you to be a better person? To be a more godly person? To be more Christ-like? Isn’t that more than just entertainment? What about following the words of the Bible?
Over in the book of Luke 6:46 Luke 6:46And why call you me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
American King James Version×
, here is what Christ said. He said, "… why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and [do not] the things which I say?" True, biblical worship means obedience to the Ten Commandments, following the Word of God. It’s not just about feeling good. You see obedience to God’s Word reminds us that keeping the Commandments is good for us!
Now here’s a question. Have you heard this message at church? How about this passage? It’s one that’s found over in the book of Deuteronomy 10:12 Deuteronomy 10:12And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,
American King James Version×
. It says "...listen to what the LORD your God demands of you: Worship the LORD and do all that he commands. Love him, serve him with all your heart, and obey all his laws. I am giving them to you today for your benefit" (GNT).
So you see, the Word of God says that true worship is so much more than just entertainment. That’s what Christ talked about - John 4:23 John 4:23But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship him.
American King James Version×
. He said "…the hour is coming, and now is, when [the] true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and [in] truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him."
Can you begin to see how true worship, how Christianity and perhaps even your own thinking has been influenced by the devil? I’d like to help you with this study aid to really understand the depth of the influence of Satan and what you can do to combat it in your life.
It’s called: Is There Really a Devil? It will help you see through the confusion in religion and expose the real source behind so many of our world’s problems and the underlying reason for so many of the difficulties that you face in your own life.

Now is the time to realize who’s determined to bend your thinking and how you can more effectively worship in spirit and in truth.
The truth can be a challenge to grasp, because there are so many versions of the truth out there. In fact, that’s another way that the devil has gotten into the church.
Notice what your Bible says in 1 Timothy 4:1 1 Timothy 4:1Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
American King James Version×
. It says, "...in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons."
Now could it really be that serious? Absolutely! In fact, some think very little about sin and its effect on us. They think, "It’s really not that big a deal." Course then there’s others that think they should come and confess their sins to a man, and then perhaps say a few Hail Marys, a few Our Fathers and that should take care of it.
But you see, that’s penance. That’s a teaching of demons! Now you might say, well why might that be? Well it implies that you can pay for your own sins. That’s a demonic teaching and it goes against everything that the Bible teaches. You cannot make up for one of your sins. You can’t compensate for that. You cannot sacrifice for that. There’s only one sacrifice that covers sin.
It’s just not biblical to think penance will take care of things; in fact that is an insult to God! 1 John 1:9 1 John 1:9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
American King James Version×
, it says: "if we confess our sins to God, he will keep his promise and do what is right: he will forgive us our sins and purify us from all our wrongdoing" (GNT).
Now you may say, "Well, I’m not one of those that beat myself up in penance." Well how seriously do you take sin? Because we’ve got to look around. We’ve got to look at the world around us and look at our own lives. Look at ourselves! We have human nature and that human nature is something we must overcome.
Galatians 5:19 Galatians 5:19Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
American King James Version×
says, "What human nature does is quite plain. It shows itself in immoral, filthy, and indecent actions; in worship of idols and witchcraft. People become enemies and they fight; they become jealous, angry, and ambitious. They separate into parties and groups; they are envious, get drunk, have orgies, and do other things like these. I warn you now as I have before: those who do these things will not possess the Kingdom of God" (GNT).
Now when you hear that passage about the works of the flesh, about human nature, you might say, "Well I’m not terribly immoral, or filthy or indecent." But what about fighting? What about jealousy? What about anger? Or even ambitiousness in the wrong sense?
You see that kind of human nature has to be overcome in our lives and it can only happen by repentance. In Acts 26:20 Acts 26:20But showed first to them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.
American King James Version×
, it tells us "all must [turn] from their sins and turn to God - and prove [that] they have changed by the good things [that] they do" (NLT).
You see obedience is proof of repentance - doing what’s right. Obeying God shows that we truly have repented and that it’s sincere. So if you find the devil in your church, if you find the devil in your thinking, if you found that Satan has infected the way that you look at life - you’ve got to repent and turn to God.
Galatians 5:16 Galatians 5:16This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
American King James Version×
says, "If you are guided by the Spirit, you won’t obey your selfish desires" (CEV).
How can you be led by God’s Spirit? Well that leads us to another way the devil has gotten into the church.
Even though we can’t see Satan, he has a powerful influence. In Ephesians 2:2 Ephesians 2:2Wherein in time past you walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience:
American King James Version×
, we’re told "You used to live just like the rest of the world, full of sin, obeying Satan, the mighty prince of the power of the air. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God" (NLT).
Now what does that mean? Well in a sense, Satan has his own spiritual Wi-Fi. He’s got his own influence that has our minds tuned in to his signal. So if you imagine the air around us, it is saturated. Not only with Wi-Fi, it’s saturated with cell phone signals, with satellite signals, with TV signals, with radio signals.
Satan’s influence is much the same. He has his own spiritual Wi-Fi you might call it, and you know the worst thing about it? Our minds are tuned into it! We are receptive to his signal of bad attitudes, of wrong ways of thinking, of influential selfishness. Those moods he infects our thinking with because he is the prince of the power of the air.
So when we read what it says in Romans 8:7 Romans 8:7Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
American King James Version×
, we begin to see, it says, "the mind-set of the flesh is hostile to God because it does not submit itself to God’s law, for it is unable do so" (HCSB).
So under the sway of Satan, you see we reject God. We reject His revelation. We reject His guidance and so we have built a society that doesn’t recognize God. We’ve even built religion that doesn’t recognize the true God. What can we do about it?
Well let’s talk about baptism. Acts 2:38 Acts 2:38Then Peter said to them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
American King James Version×
says, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
Now this may be the area where baptisms took place in this church. Now some people sprinkle when they are baptized. They take water and sprinkle it on the person’s head. Now others pour water on the individual being baptized. And still others dip water out and pour it over the person being baptized. But did you know that none of those methods are biblical? None of them are found in your Bible. Has Satan contaminated baptism?
The fact is he has because baptism is being fully immersed in water. That’s what the word in the New Testament is all about. To baptize means to fully immerse, to become totally wet, to plunge into water. That’s the biblical method of baptism so that we’re buried in baptism. Our sins are washed away and then we stand up so that we can be a new creation in Christ.
Well how did you receive the Spirit? Well some people simply take Jesus in their heart. Others, a minister pronounces them to have the Spirit. And still others, by faith they have the Spirit of God. Now are those biblical ideas? Not if you’re reading your Bible! The devil’s got his foot in the door of even receiving God’s Spirit because none of those ideas is what God says in His Word about receiving God’s Holy Spirit.
Notice what it says in Acts 8:17 Acts 8:17Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
American King James Version×
: "Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit."
You see these were people who believed. These were people who repented. And what did they do in order to receive God’s Spirit? In verse 18 it says, "through the laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Spirit was given…"
There is no other way that’s biblical. No other way the Bible describes how you receive the Holy Spirit of God.
I don’t know if you realized in Hebrews 6 it lists the laying on of hands as a foundational basic doctrine of the Church. And so Jesus Christ Himself challenges you to receive the Spirit.
Luke 11:28 Luke 11:28But he said, Yes rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
American King James Version×
, He puts it this way, "how blessed are those who hear and obey God’s word" (GW).
It can be a challenge then to put into practice the Word of God. It’s a challenge. But there’s help for that challenge.

The last place you would expect to find the devil is in the church. But that’s exactly one place where God says he could be found. How is that possible? Well God predicted it in Corinthians. Notice 2 Corinthians 11:3 2 Corinthians 11:3But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
American King James Version×
. It says, "I am afraid that your minds will be led away from your true and pure following of Christ just as Eve was tricked by the snake [and] his evil ways. You are very patient with anyone who comes to you and preaches a different Jesus from the one we preached. You are very willing to accept a spirit or gospel that is different from the Spirit and Good News you received from us" (NCV).
Can you recognize a false teacher? That’s what God was warning us about. Are you willing to accept it and put up with it even if the devil is trying to influence your thinking? God says we have to be careful. In the very next verse, verse 13 it says "for such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness..." (2 Corinthians 11:13-15 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
American King James Version×
).
You see the devil never lets up with his deceitfulness. He inspires false teachers. Do you recognize them? He says they’re counterfeits. Their message is counterfeit. It’s a mixture of truth and falsehoods. In Mark 13:5 Mark 13:5And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you:
American King James Version×
, Christ said, "Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am He,' and will deceive many."
In other words, Jesus said watch out for deception. Take heed. Be careful because you could be deceived. People who do not understand or teach the Bible accurately - would you recognize them?
A true minister of God goes up to that gap, that crack in the wall of his people and he repairs it and he restores it. That’s what a righteous minister does, a true minister of God, a true servant of God. That’s what he does because he protects his people, he serves his people. He warns them about these spiritual issues, these spiritual sins in their life that have to be repaired!
Verse 5. It says, "They don’t warn the people about coming trouble or tell them how dangerous it is to sin against me. Those prophets lie by claiming they speak for me, but I have not even chosen them to be my prophets. And they still think their words will come true" (Ezekiel 13:5-6 Ezekiel 13:5-6 5 You have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the LORD. 6 They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, The LORD said: and the LORD has not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would confirm the word.
American King James Version×
, CEV).
So you see a true minister, they tell it like it is and you know sometimes, that’s a difficult thing to do. It’s not a feel-good kind of message. They have to point out the cracks, the gaps in people’s lives and help them to overcome sin; to help them to repair the damage that sin can cause.
Notice verse 10, false ministers it says: "…lead my people the wrong way by saying, 'Peace!' when there is no peace. When the people build a weak wall, the prophets cover it [over] with whitewash to make it look strong" (Ezekiel 13:10 Ezekiel 13:10Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, see, others daubed it with untempered mortar:
American King James Version×
, NCV).
So you see the people think they have a strong wall. They’re deceived to think everything is just fine. So instead of protecting them and helping them and caring for them, those false ministers give them lies!
So which kind of minister do you have? You can’t afford to believe a false teacher.
Ephesians talks about it, chapter 6:12: "… we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."
You see this is a big battle! And the truth is: there’s a great false religious system that masquerades itself as Christianity. Eternal life is at risk! That’s how serious this issue truly is. That’s how serious Satan’s deception is!
So what can we do? If you’re going to keep the devil out of our church, if we’re going to keep the devil out of my thinking, if we’re not going to allow him to deceive us, we’ve got to make sure that we don’t focus on a leader’s charisma.
We don’t have to focus on their personality, but we must focus on their message! "To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light" - there is no truth - "in them" (Isaiah 8:20 Isaiah 8:20To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
American King James Version×
).
So if you’ve found that the devil in your church, now’s the time you must do something about it! Now is the time to act! We must take action. Pray and ask God to open your mind to His truth.

There is really a devil and he has an enormous effect on religion. So don’t allow him to infect your thinking. Don’t allow him to compromise your beliefs. There’s only one standard we can base our life on and that’s the standard of the Word of God.
In Revelation it describes God’s people as it says that they are those "who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ" (Revelation 12:17 Revelation 12:17And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
American King James Version×
).
So always seek God’s guidance though much prayer as you seek the church who obeys the Scriptures.
I’ll be right back after this:
[Narrator] Two men ran through the streets of the city each trying to be the first to discover if it was so. They turned the last corner and arrived at the tomb. They both stopped. One leaned over and looked into the space and noticed a neatly folded pile of linen cloths. He was astounded and backed away not believing what he saw.
Jesus was not there. He had risen from the dead. All things had changed.
Christ came to earth with a central message of the Kingdom of God. What is the Kingdom of God? Most have never heard or understood what Jesus actually taught on this subject. The United Church of God is hosting free seminars held simultaneously around the world.
[Steve] That Kingdom is coming to earth - that was the message of Jesus Christ. It’s not a Kingdom that’s off up there in heaven but it’s a Kingdom that Christ is going to establish right here on this earth.
[Narrator] Go to KOGSeminars.org for details to find one near you. Kingdom of God Bible Seminars - giving the message of hope for tomorrow, beginning today.
[Steve] Until next time, keep praying "Thy Kingdom come" as we look beyond today. I’m Steve Myers. Thanks for watching.

As we watch disease, war, threat of terrorists, the decay of morality, crushing of God’s Word and His Ten Commandments enter into our country, here are the famous words from Paul Harvey almost 50 years ago, April 3, 1965.
If I were the Devil”
If I were the Devil, I would not be happy until I had seized the ripest apple on the tree. So I’d set about however necessary to take over the United States.
I’d submit the churches first. I’d begin with a campaign of whispers. With the wisdom of a serpent, I would whisper to you as I whispered to Eve, “Do as you please.” To the young, I would whisper, “The Bible is a myth.” I would convince them that man created God instead of the other way around. I would confide that what’s bad is good, and what’s good is “square.” And the old I would teach to pray after me, “Our Father, which art in Washington…”
And then I’d get organized. I’d educate authors in how to make lurid literature exciting so that anything else would appear dull and uninteresting. I’d threaten T.V. with dirtier movies and vice versa. I’d pedal narcotics to whom I could. I’d sell alcohol to ladies and gentlemen of distinction. I’d tranquilize the rest with pills.
If I were the Devil, I’d soon have families at war with themselves, churches at war with themselves, and nations at war with themselves until each in its turn was consumed. And with promises of higher ratings, I’d have mesmerizing media fanning the flames.
If I were the Devil, I would encourage schools to refine young intellects, but neglect to discipline emotions, just let those run wild, until before you knew it, you’d have to have drug-sniffing dogs and metal detectors at every schoolhouse door.
Within the decade, I’d have prisons overflowing, I’d have judges promoting pornography. Soon, I could evict God from the courthouse, then from the schoolhouse, then from the houses of Congress.
And in His own churches, I would substitute psychology for religion and deify science. I would lure priests and pastors into misusing boys and girls and church money.
If I were the devil, I would take from those who have and I would give to those who want it until I had killed the incentive of the ambitious.
And wouldn’t you bet I couldn’t get whole states to promote gambling as the way to get rich.
I would caution against extremes and hard work and patriotism and moral conduct. I would convince the young that marriage is old-fashioned, that swinging is more fun, that what you see on TV is the way to be. And thus I could undress you in public and I could lure you into bed with diseases for which there is no cure.
In other words, if I were the Devil, I’d just keep right on doing what he’s doing.
Paul Harvey, Good Day.
It is chilling to read Paul’s Harvey’s commentary and watch the events unfold 50 years later as he portrayed. But God gets the last word, as mentioned in Revelation 20:10 Revelation 20:10And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
American King James Version×
: “Satan will be destroyed so he can no longer do harm.” Our hope is coming as mentioned in Revelation 21:4 Revelation 21:4And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
American King James Version×
: “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death, or mourning, or crying, or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
I am so thankful that our hope is in God and He gets the last word! As Paul Harvey ended his prophetic program that day, with a “Good Day”, even those two words are prophetic for it will be a good day soon. So when you see these things happening, look up and know that the time is near for a great new world!

In the News...More Britons Believe in Ghosts Than in God?

In the News...More Britons Believe in Ghosts Than in God?

article by Amanda Stiver, David Treybig, James Capo

More Britons believe in ghosts than in God, according to an informal survey published on—yes—Oct. 31.

The survey wasn't a true random sample, so the results can't be considered scientifically accurate, but of the 2,012 people who completed a questionnaire for the British home entertainment retailer ChoicesUK, 68 percent said they believed in the existence of ghosts and spirits, while 55 percent said they believed in the existence of a god (source: AP).

Of those who believed in ghosts, 76 percent said that films and TV reality shows about the supernatural helped convince them that ghosts exist. But what does the Bible say? It reveals that there really is an active spirit realm—not of ghosts, supposedly disembodied human beings, but of spirits, fallen angels called demons that seek to influence and deceive people against the truth of God. These may sometimes pose as the ghosts of dead people. The dead, however, are unconscious, awaiting a future resurrection (compare Ecclesiastes 9:5For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

See All..., 10). For this and other reasons, the Bible warns against any involvement with the spirit world apart from contact with the true God.

Our booklet Is There Really A Devil? reveals how this spirit realm is the real source behind so many of the world's problems and explains how God will overthrow this power and establish a kingdom of peace. Jesus Christ overcame Satan (Matthew 4; Luke 4), and through Christ we can too.

Monsters are Real

An interesting article from http://www.ucg.org/ about children and monsters. This follows this post about single mothers.  For a free magazine subscription or to get this book for free click HERE! or call 1-888-886-8632.

Source: stock.xchng/emospadaMost children are afraid of the dark. Their eyes seem to conspire against them, playing tricks and creating monsters out of shadows.

A bedroom closet and the space underneath a bed seem to be places of mystery, housing monsters only seen after the lights have been turned out. As a child I was not only afraid of monsters in the dark but during the daylight hours my fears would run away with me as well. The creaking of our old hardwood floors, the settling of the apartment building, and older plumbing offered sounds that most certainly came from monsters laying in wait for an unsuspecting little girl to walk into their lair.

My mother did her best to assure me that monsters do not exist. With all of her assurance, I knew they not only existed but adults were unable to see them because they did not believe. To this day I find being alone in the darkest hours of the night leaves me uneasy, especially if the darkness is paired with sounds of our home creaking and moaning.

What if I told you that monsters do exist, would you believe me? There is an unseen world, one full of monsters lurking about, creating as much chaos and destruction as possible. That world is the demonic world, run by Satan himself. You don't believe? He will be very pleased to hear that. As people of this age become more and more “enlightened” and accepting of various types of religions and thought processes, it seems the demonic world becomes less real and less of a threat in their minds.

The Bible speaks of a time when the unseen monsters of this world will bring real chaos into the lives of many people. Those people will be living at the end of the age, when a power will arise, called the Beast. It will control governments, religions and the people of this world. This Beast gains its power from Satan and seeks to destroy anything that would represent the one true God.

People will believe this Beast is the way to worldwide peace and a type of savior for all mankind. He will perform miracles, speak soothing words and sound very religious. They will follow his lead and be his tools for chaos and destruction. They will accept the mark of the Beast. He will be so powerful that even those who believe in the one true God and all that he stands for may be fooled into following him. To do so is to walk into the lair of the monster as it lays in wait.

While this monster story may sound frightening, it ends well. In Revelation 19-20 we learn that Jesus Christ returns to earth and destroys the Beast and all of those who are with him. When He returns He will be looking for those who saw the Beast as the monster he truly was. Will He find you?

It's Only... It's Just...

It's Only... It's Just...

article by Lorelei Nettles

They are used again and again in our own lives. Our children especially use them, and we only hurt ourselves when we allow them to control us. What are they?

There are words we may tend to use regularly, whether saying them aloud or only to ourselves. They are words like: “But it’s only,” “I know the difference,” “Others do it,” “It won’t hurt me” or “It’s not real, so what’s the big deal?” We use them when we are making excuses for what we are allowing into our life and minds; making excuses for things we might openly accept as wrong.

The mind cannot compartmentalize the real from the fantasy.

A mother related the following story after a conversation with her son: “One day I walked into the room while my son was watching a popular television program that I don’t approve of. It’s not a terribly horrible program, but I feel it gives a bad impression of the family. When I expressed my disappointment at him watching the show his reply was, ‘Mom, it’s only a cartoon.’

“I explained to my son that what we allow into our minds affects the way we think about things; that what seems innocent can really be making certain things seem acceptable to us when they really are not. We continued to talk about it for a minute or two when he suddenly told me that there should be a sermon on the subject. That’s when I knew he was beginning to understand the importance of what I was saying.”

We can all make similar excuses for what we will allow into our lives and minds. We can be so willing to brush aside objections to what we know not to be right or wholesome solely because of the way in which it is presented. We often make excuses without even thinking about it. We might say things like, “Well, other people at church watch this program,” “My friends watch this and I want to discuss it with them” or “I know the difference between right and wrong, so it won’t even affect me.”

There are several television programs and movies out right now that are about the occult, the dead being alive in one form or another, wolves, vampires or very sexual or mystical characters. Some are presented as very innocent or even humorous, which often leads us to disregard their underlying messages. Not all programs are bad, but we must be wary of what we are allowing into our minds.

An ancient issue

Similar things were happening in Moses’ day. Without really thinking about it, Israel returned to idolatry and turned from God. Did it happen quickly and did they do it with clear minds? Not likely. God had warned Israel to steer clear of those who worshiped other gods, but they did not listen and soon allowed pagan foreigners back into their lives. With them came their idols and idol worship (see 2 Kings 17:7-12 [7] For so it was, that the children of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, which had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,

[8] And walked in the statutes of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made.

[9] And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the LORD their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.

[10] And they set them up images and groves in every high hill, and under every green tree:

[11] And there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the heathen whom the LORD carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to provoke the LORD to anger:

[12] For they served idols, whereof the LORD had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing.

See All... and Psalms 106:35-36 [35] But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works.

[36] And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them.

See All...).

By allowing pagan worship and rituals to be practiced among them, the Israelites slowly came to accept them. It began to seem normal and everyday after a while; nothing to get upset about. Then gradually over time, they started to adopt more and more of the idol worshipers’ ways, adapting them into their own culture. I am sure that in the beginning they told themselves it was no big deal; it was only something those other people did. It didn’t affect how the Israelites ran their lives. To them it was just an innocent acceptance. They probably thought things like we do today: “How can we dislike them for what they believe? They have always been that way. It’s not their fault, it’s just not fair to separate ourselves from them.” How easy it is to delude ourselves into this way of thinking.

The problem areas

The Internet is another issue that needs to be addressed. There are sites that are set up solely for the purpose of posting videos that too often share more than one should see or hear. Sexual content has become common and vulgarity disguised as humor is the norm. Trying to get a reaction is often the goal and getting caught up in all of it can come so easy. Voyeurism has also been linked to dysfunctional relationships and even violence towards women.

People can find themselves glued to computer screens for hours on end without anything to show for their time at the end of the day. What a waste! While the Internet can be a good tool, we must be careful not to let it overtake us.

Video games can either be a fun activity or create a mind that is numb, especially to violence. Games that are about stealing or killing do little to build our minds. I have heard this argument for one such game, “It’s not killing if they aren’t people, they are only aliens!” Does that matter? Is taking a life any different within your brain? I wouldn’t think so. If the creature walks upright and looks similar to a human, can your brain differentiate between them?

The mind cannot compartmentalize the real from the fantasy. The mind learns to adapt to the sight of continual killing and can become silently compassionate and/or tolerant to a theft or a murder. How many movies have you seen where you find yourself rooting for the bad guy and how many games have been played where the character (you) is stealing or killing?

Questions to ask ourselves:

* Are the characters I see or use acting in a way that God would approve of?

* Do I find myself making “It’s only...” excuses?

* Is there a message here that is detrimental to my family, spouse, children or friends?

* Is there a chance that I am allowing my mind to be gradually changed in ways that might harm my character and my resolve to follow God’s ways?

* How will this affect my mind in the long run?

Not just visual

It is not only what we watch that can change our way of thinking, but also what we listen to. Have you ever been listening to the radio and become excited because an old song you love was coming on? You may be singing along with it, when suddenly and maybe for the first time, you actually listen to the words and realize that the message is horrible. It is not something you should be listening to at all!

…what we allow into our minds affects the way we think about things; that what seems innocent can really be making certain things seem acceptable to us when they really are not.

At this point, you have a choice. Will you listen or will you stop? It often comes as a surprise to me, that what I once thought to be great songs have often turned out to have very bad messages. While I have become more discriminating over the years and have chosen to stop listening to such music, I am also sure that I have allowed some of it to slide by. The song starts and I drive down the highway, singing along with an old favorite without a thought. In time, I am sure that I will weed these out as well, but it takes a conscious effort.

Satan is a master with music and we can see his influence throughout the industry, whether it is rock, country, rap or jazz. We need to be careful what we allow into our minds. “But it’s just music, it can’t influence me.” It can and does! Some of it is blatant and rebellious, while in other songs we may not even notice the subtle messages coming across.

I remember being at a church campout once. Everyone was singing around the campfire and the atmosphere was festive. It was quite fun until the songs seemed to turn and suddenly we were singing very unchristian lyrics. When I complained, I was told it was only a song and that I was being too serious. But in my mind, I pictured campsites nearby overhearing our song and never thinking us to be Christians. It’s something to think about.

More times than not, the music we listen to is very beautiful, has a good beat and or makes us want to dance. It’s this catchiness that attracts us and hooks us. Sometimes the verses are written in such a way that we may not at first understand their meaning. We often don’t even hear the words at first, even if we are singing them. Satan is cunning. He is very aware that music is a beloved part of almost every culture.

Satan is a master with music and we can see his influence throughout the industry, whether it is rock, country, rap or jazz.

There is music that leaves me feeling aggressive and tense. Many young people enjoy this style of music, but those who do often display these same characteristics. They are aggressive and angry. I saw this happen with my son when he was quite young. He was an active toddler, but I noticed that music affected the way he acted. Calmer music settled him down, while a screaming style song or music made him very hyper, even if exposed to it for a short time. There is much talk of the effect most classical music has on young children, and while I am not sure of its effect on the brain as far as intellect, I do know that when my family and I listen to it, there is a calming affect on us all.

Even grocery stores and restaurants know this to be true, playing soft rock or other calming music to get you to spend more time and money. They know that harsh music will make you want to leave and not spend extra time in their establishments.

The questions to ask ourselves:

* Do the lyrics speak positively, or do they speak of sin or sinful acts?

* Do I physically feel good when I listen to this?

* Would I listen to or sing along with this music with Jesus?

* Do I find myself saying things like, “But the music is so beautiful; what’s the harm in listening to the lyrics too?”

* Am I allowing Satan a foothold into my life?

We make daily decisions on what we watch, hear and engage in on the computer. The question is will we later find ourselves making excuses for those choices? Will we be saying, “It’s just… It’s only…”?

Did the ghost of Samuel appear to Saul after his death?

An interesting article from http://www.ucg.org/  about a "ghost" scene in the Bible. This follows this post about an explosion in the Arab Gulf States. For a free magazine subscription or to get this book for free click HERE! or call 1-888-886-8632.

Did the ghost of Samuel appear to Saul after his death?

When Saul consulted the witch (medium) of En Dor, was it really the prophet Samuel that appeared?

Answer:

No. There are several important scriptures to consider before we examine the actual story, recorded in 1 Samuel 28:7-25 [7] Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor.

[8] And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee.

[9] And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a snare for my life, to cause me to die?

[10] And Saul sware to her by the LORD, saying, As the LORD liveth, there shall no punishment happen to thee for this thing.

[11] Then said the woman, Whom shall I bring up unto thee? And he said, Bring me up Samuel.

[12] And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul.

[13] And the king said unto her, Be not afraid: for what sawest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, I saw gods ascending out of the earth.

[14] And he said unto her, What form is he of? And she said, An old man cometh up; and he is covered with a mantle. And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground, and bowed himself.

[15] And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do.

[16] Then said Samuel, Wherefore then dost thou ask of me, seeing the LORD is departed from thee, and is become thine enemy?

[17] And the LORD hath done to him, as he spake by me: for the LORD hath rent the kingdom out of thine hand, and given it to thy neighbour, even to David:

[18] Because thou obeyedst not the voice of the LORD, nor executedst his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore hath the LORD done this thing unto thee this day.

[19] Moreover the LORD will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines: and to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: the LORD also shall deliver the host of Israel into the hand of the Philistines.

[20] Then Saul fell straightway all along on the earth, and was sore afraid, because of the words of Samuel: and there was no strength in him; for he had eaten no bread all the day, nor all the night.

[21] And the woman came unto Saul, and saw that he was sore troubled, and said unto him, Behold, thine handmaid hath obeyed thy voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and have hearkened unto thy words which thou spakest unto me.

[22] Now therefore, I pray thee, hearken thou also unto the voice of thine handmaid, and let me set a morsel of bread before thee; and eat, that thou mayest have strength, when thou goest on thy way.

[23] But he refused, and said, I will not eat. But his servants, together with the woman, compelled him; and he hearkened unto their voice. So he arose from the earth, and sat upon the bed.

[24] And the woman had a fat calf in the house; and she hasted, and killed it, and took flour, and kneaded it, and did bake unleavened bread thereof:

[25] And she brought it before Saul, and before his servants; and they did eat. Then they rose up, and went away that night.

See All.... The first is the verse immediately prior, which informs the reader that "when Saul inquired of the Lord, the Lord did not answer him, either by dreams or by Urim or by the prophets" (1 Samuel 28:6And when Saul enquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.

See All...). God was refusing to communicate with Saul through any means, including His prophets. Samuel, even if he had been still alive, would have had nothing to tell Saul. From this we can infer that the "Samuel" who communicated with Saul was not a prophet of God speaking from beyond the grave.

Another important passage is in Ecclesiastes 9:5For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

See All..., 10, which says plainly that "the living know that they will die; but the dead know nothing...for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going." When we die, we enter a state the Bible likens to "sleep" (1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 [13] But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

[14] For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

See All...), remaining unconscious until the resurrections at or after Christ's return. There is certainly no soul that lives on, able to communicate with the rest of the living.

Knowing this, the entity Saul communicated with could not possibly have been the ghost or spirit of Samuel, or any other human being. That leaves only the spirit realm as a possibility—and given that God had explicitly cut off communication between Himself (and by extension, His angels) and Saul (compare 1 Samuel 13:14But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.

See All...; 28:6 and Isaiah 59:2But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

See All...), we are forced to conclude that the "Samuel" conjured up by the medium of En Dor was a demonic spirit masquerading as God's prophet.

We might ask, "If it was really a demon communicating with Saul, why did it tell him the truth?" (1 Samuel 28:16-19 [16] Then said Samuel, Wherefore then dost thou ask of me, seeing the LORD is departed from thee, and is become thine enemy?

[17] And the LORD hath done to him, as he spake by me: for the LORD hath rent the kingdom out of thine hand, and given it to thy neighbour, even to David:

[18] Because thou obeyedst not the voice of the LORD, nor executedst his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore hath the LORD done this thing unto thee this day.

[19] Moreover the LORD will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines: and to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: the LORD also shall deliver the host of Israel into the hand of the Philistines.

See All...; compare 13:9-14; 15:8-9, 26; 31:2-4). We must remember that the primary goal of Satan and his demons is to destroy us. By selectively telling Saul pieces of the truth, the demon posing as Samuel was able to depress him to the point where Saul was no longer able to stand up (1 Samuel 28:20Then Saul fell straightway all along on the earth, and was sore afraid, because of the words of Samuel: and there was no strength in him; for he had eaten no bread all the day, nor all the night.

See All...).

The demon used parts of the truth, while posing as a man of God, to paint a picture of hopelessness. "And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works" (2 Corinthians 11:14-15 [14] And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

[15] Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

See All...).
