Current Events & Trends: China's worrying military ambitions

An interesting article from http://www.ucg.org/ about China's military and trade. This follows this post about America's demographics. This follows this post about the Lost 10 Tribes.  This follows this post about Zika. For a free magazine subscription or to get the books recommended for free click HERE! or call 1-888-886- 8632.

A major feature article in The Sunday Times of London showed that, as its drophead states, “the test of a new missile is heightening concerns over Beijing's arms build-up” (“China's Carrier Killer Unnerves US Navy,” March 24, 2013). The article continues, “China has successfully tested a 'carrier killer' missile designed to change the military balance of power in Asia by deterring American aircraft carrier operations up to 1,250 miles from Chinese shores.”
Clearly the Chinese military has its aggressive generals. China's Liberation Army Daily opts for an end to “romantic pacifism” and urges “full preparation” for war. A headline in The Wall Street Journal reads, “For Xi, a 'China Dream' of Global Military Power” (Jeremy Page, March 14). The article that follows presents new Communist Party and military chief Xi Jinping as appearing to embrace the hawkish worldview of the nation's generals.
Are we going to see a new, updated version of World War II's old Axis Powers, with China in the role of principal Asian foe rather than an “Americanized” Japan? In World War II the Japanese army invaded China. Will the reverse occur in the future? Time will tell.
Isn't it troubling that the Republic of China holds so many billions of American dollars in its own treasury? Why is America being challenged on so many fronts today—military, economic and otherwise? What is America doing wrong? The answer, as revealed in the Bible, is clearly revealed in the Bible study aid The United States and Britain in Bible Prophecy . BEIJING: (Reuters)-China announced July 15 it had the technology to make neutron bombs, but gave no details. “China officially announced here today that it has already mastered the neutron bomb design technology,” the official Xinhua news agency said in a one-paragraph report.
The announcement came amid a dispute with rival Taiwan, which abandoned its “one China” policy that has helped underpin East Asian security for decades.
The three-line Xinhua report gave no clue as to when the neutron bomb was developed or whether China had conducted tests, begun mass production or deployed the weapon.

In 1962 the United States and Russia came dangerously close to nuclear war over the issue of nuclear weapons based in Cuba, just a few miles off the coast of Florida. Today there are concerns expressed over the presence of a Chinese company, Hutchison Whampoa Limited, in Panama, where it has contracted to manage the entrances to the former U.S. possession. The same Chinese company is currently completing construction of the largest container port in the world in Freeport, Bahamas-just 60 miles from Florida.
While this is a far cry from placing nuclear weapons close to United States soil, it has raised concerns that a company with Communist Chinese connections is operating in two strategic geographic points very close to American interests.
Several U.S. military experts say that these activities in both Panama and the Bahamas by Hutchison Whampoa Limited, a Hong Kong-based conglomerate, pose a significant risk to U.S. national security.
Officials for Hutchison Whampoa have heatedly denied any links with the Red Chinese government, but several established connections suggest that the Chinese government has a keen interest in the company's activities.
One port facility that has captured the interest of the Chinese government is Hutchison Whampoa's sprawling port facility in the tourist destination of Freeport on Grand Bahama Island.
According to the company's Web site, the port is located at one of the most strategic spots in the world because “Freeport is the closest offshore port to the east coast of the United States, at the cross-roads of routes between Europe and the Americas and through the Panama Canal.”
Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (Republican-Mississippi) and former U.S. Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger have expressed concerns about Hutchison's influence over the Panama Canal.
Lott has described the Hong Kong firm as “an arm of the People's Liberation Army.”
Hutchison Whampoa's chairman, Li Ka-Shing, is also a board member of CITIC-the China International Trust and Investment Corporation. U.S. intelligence sources have described the firm as a front for China's governmental State Council.
Congressman Dana Rohrbacher (Republican-California) has stated that CITIC has been used as a front company by China's military to acquire technology for weapons development. A recently declassified report by the United States Southern Command's Joint Intelligence Center, prepared in October 1999, said that “Hutchison Whampoa's owner, Hong Kong tycoon Li Ka-Shing, has extensive business ties in Beijing and has compelling financial reasons to maintain a good relationship with China's leadership.”
The military intelligence report also warns that “Hutchison containerized shipping facilities in the Panama Canal, as well as the Bahamas, could provide a conduit for illegal shipments of technology or prohibited items from the West to the PRC, or facilitate the movement of arms and other prohibited items into the Americas.”
Retired Admiral Thomas Moorer, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and former commander in chief of the Pacific and Atlantic Fleet said this of the Chinese efforts: “Of course the Chinese military sees the benefit of having a base, a future base, so close to the United States. What China is trying to do is get a kind of maritime position worldwide, and they need a home base, so to speak, in every ocean.” (Newsmax.com)

After 70 years of relative pacifism, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and top defense adviser Masahisa Sato seem determined to transform Japan's military capacity, freeing it from constraints imposed after World War II. Tokyo is going to increase defense spending due mainly to possible hostilities with both North Korea and China.
U.S. response has been mixed. America fears that remilitarization will worsen Japan's relationship with China. Yet Washington needs both Japan and Australia as allies in the Pacific region.
Although China and Japan are in a protracted dispute over the ownership of certain adjacent islands, “China needs to buy Japanese products as much as Japan needs to sell them” (“Mutual Assured Production,” Foreign Affairs, July-August 2013). Boycotting Japanese products might endanger the Chinese economic miracle. So mutual economic interests may keep the peace, at least for a time.
Biblical prophecy indicates that both China and Japan will likely play a major role in the fulfillment of end-time prophecy, perhaps as part of “the kings of the east,” whose forces invading the Middle East will lead to Armageddon (Revelation 16:12 Revelation 16:12And the sixth angel poured out his vial on the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.

BRICS Desire Stronger Voice

An interesting article from http://wnponline.wordpress.com/ about the dollar's demise. This follows this post about Easter.  For a free magazine subscription or to get this book for free click HERE! or call 1-888-886-8632.

BRICS Desire Stronger Voice

The calls to replace the dollar as the world currency continue. What seems to be a newly formed bloc of nations, the BRICS, met this week in China to discuss the continuing world monetary disorder. These nations, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, desire s greater voice and an end to the economic dominance of the dollar.

In a statement the group said what was needed was, “a broad-based international reserve currency system providing stability and certainty”. “The world economy is undergoing profound and complex changes,” Chinese President Hu Jintao said. “The era demands that the BRICS countries strengthen dialogue and cooperation.”

This group of emerging nations are an interesting mixture of emerging nations. There common theme to date appears to be a strong desire to have a voice in world affairs, countering the more dominant position of western powers. While strident, it does not now appear they have the clout to do assert the type of power that can by itself bring fundamental change. They do, however, add to the growing voice of concern and doubt in America’s economic leadership.

In a week where the Obama administration demonstrated little visionary leadership to curb America’s growing debt bomb this little development on the far side of the world should not be misunderstood. The United States’ role in world leadership is changing on many fronts. Other nations want a voice at the table and are not content to stand by in a secondary role.

America is facing a defining moment for its role as a global power. The sun has not set. At the very least it has reached its zenith. Unless fundamental changes are made the only question remaining is the rate in which it declines.

35,000 forced abortions taking place in China as Chinese president visits U.S.

President Obama greets Chinese President Hu Jintau at the White House this week. (Photo: AP)WASHINGTON, DC, January 19, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Victims who have lived through imprisonment and harassment by the Chinese government, including the government’s vicious one-child policy, gathered together with human rights leaders on Capitol Hill yesterday to speak out on the arrival of Chinese President Hu Jintao in the United States.

Hu is receiving a high profile welcome from the Obama Administration - including a formal state dinner – prompting House members and human rights groups to criticize China’s abysmal human rights record.

One activist, former Tiananmen Square student leader Chai Ling, pointed out, “As we gather here in Washington, over 35,000 forced and coerced abortions are taking place today in China.”

Ling called the “brutal” enforcement of the one-child policy “the largest crime against humanity.”

“It is the inhumane secret slaughter against mothers and babies,” he said. “It is a Tiananmen massacre taking place every hour; and it is an unending holocaust that has gone on for 30 years.”

Referencing the famous “I have a dream speech” by Martin Luther King, whose birthday was celebrated earlier this week, Ling said:

We dream a dream that tomorrow China’s Forced One Child Policy will become history; we dream a dream that children will grow up with brothers and sisters, uncles and aunts; we dream a dream that all tears will be wiped from the faces of parents whose children were taken; we dream a dream that all young men will have brides and taste the sweetness of being newly wed; we dream a dream that all mothers will mourn no more because they are with children.

Ling urged Obama and his administration to bring up the issue of the one-child policy with Hu during his visit: “We encourage you all to say Yes We Can to leaders of China: End forced abortions and gendercide.” (Click here to read Ling’s complete statement.)

Pro-life Congressman and human rights activist Chris Smith also used the press conference to criticize President Hu’s treatment of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize nominee Liu Xiaobo, who is imprisoned in China and was therefore unable to attend the award ceremony in Oslo. Hu also had Liu’s wife and friends placed under house arrest for fear they would come to Oslo to receive the prize for him.

“President Obama, as the 2009 Nobel Peace laureate, has an obligation to call for Liu’s release publicly and vigorously,” said Smith, a longtime human rights advocate in Congress, chair of the House Human Rights Subcommittee and Executive Committee Member of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission (TLHRC).

Smith said that over the years he has had the “privilege” of meeting many Nobel Peace laureates, and that “for the peace laureates, the idea that they could meet personally with and throw a White House state dinner for a political leader responsible for jailing another laureate and not demand publicly for their fellow laureate’s release would be something absolutely unthinkable.”

“I truly hope that in the next few days President Obama lives up to the award he received in 2009,” said Smith.
