Let Us Keep the Feast!

I have read two articles this week about the state of religion. Newsweek’s cover story proclaims, “The Decline and Fall of Christian America” while this morning’s Wall Street Journal says “God Still Isn’t Dead”.
Coming on the week of Passover and the start of the biblical Days of Unleavened Bread we again see America’s fascination with religion. While the headlines of these two stories may seem the opposite I see them pointing to a churn within Amercian society that cannot be settled by a defective theology.
It is not a question of decline in “Christian America”, whatever that means, nor a a foolish question about God. What nobody questions is whether a seeker’s faith reflects the true God and His message. Those who put their faith in the Bible as His revealed word should seriously examine their belief and practice. Once that is done the fervor and zeal can be channeled into the right direction. The result will be electrifying.
Tonight marks the New Testament Passover. Many faithful will gather to take the symbols of Christ’s sacrifice–bread and wine. One represents the blood of sacrifice that covers for sin while the other represents the life of God. Both are taken in faith. It is a profession of need and hope. We all need salvation and renewal. Our only hope is in Christ and the Father.
In John 17:1-5 Christ prayed, “Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.”
Man’s search for spiritual meaning continues. The truth is found within the symbols we take tonight. Let us keep the feast!
