In a recent issue of WNP we carried an article on the possibility of an electro magnetic pulse bomb being used against the United States by an enemy. This type bomb could wipe out all electronic infrastructure in one blow, rendering the nation without any electric power adn vulnerable to a complete breakdown of society as we know it today.

America, like all developed nations, is heavily dependent on its electrical grid to keep a comfortable well ordered society humming along each day. This includes the military which has also grown reliant on computers to wage war and carry out natinal defense.

Now comes a report on China's stated plans to develop the means to hack into military computers and create havoc with the systems. This strategic effort is called the David and Goliath effect. That is, the ploy of a weaker adversary to exploit the soft spot of the stronger. An article by Peter Brooks details plans for just such an attack by China.

Read this in light of the post last week about “Thinkiing Dark” and the need for keeping open a wide imagination when it comes to the dangers facing America's national defense.

Articles such as these show how America's position as the dominat global military power could suffer a quick reversal, putting us at a serious disadvantage to our enemies.

I Am Not A Number!: Freeing America From the ID State

A very interesting book review from http://www.amazon.com/ about avoiding being forced to take a government ID number for Health Care, etc. This follows this post about the potential struggle for survival in a national crisis situation. This follows this post about a book to read for understanding of the Gang Warfare in Chicago. This follows this post about the Black Caucus hurting Black Americans with their immigration stand. This follows this post about how to Report Illegal Immigrants! For more that you can do to get involved click HERE and you can read another very interesting book HERE!

I Am Not A Number!: Freeing America From the ID State

Claire Wolfe

Level-headed and pragmatic radicalism
By A Customer

Format:PaperbackWolfe's cynicism towards both big government and violent political fringe groups, without any paranoia and hysteria, is a welcome change from books of this type (not unlike her previous book, "101 Things To Do 'Til the Revolution"). Instead of a typical "globalist conspiracy, grab your guns and head for the hills" type of book, this is an investigation of just how your rights are being eroded, not by plot and design, but by complacancy and apathy; how we are allowing our desires for security and comfort to build a prison for us with bars that we will never even notice. Included in the book are resources and suggestions (with plenty of "caveat emptor"s) on how to keep what privacy you have, as well as taking back some that you've lost.

You don't know how much privacy you've already lost? Frightening, isn't it?

Worthy of the title, taken from a line from Patrick McGoohan's TV mini-series "The Prisoner" (Available on tape, so rent it!), this is Wolfe's best so far. A rare voice in this field of writing, I look forward to more "rationally radical" works from her.

Sane and reasoned with a dash of well struck humor

Format:PaperbackClaire Wolfe first popped into view while researching National ID sites and electronic privacy forums. I was delighted with what I found. Perhaps enough of us will see the light Claire has given us before the lamp is extinguished.

For the interested reader, there are other gems to be mined. A "must read", fictional account of where we are headed if current trends are not reversed is a new novel by author Jerry Furland, "TRANSFER-the end of the beginning...". Chillingly topical and utterly believable, you should check it out right here at Amazon.com. Forewarned is forearmed.

Claire Wolfe: Culture Hero
By P. Hartman

Format:PaperbackClaire Wolfe, Culture Hero

The revised and expanded second addition of her recognized libertarian classic, I Am Not a Number! Freeing America from the ID State, is out now and even better than the first. She's written a bunch of other books, too. In fact that's the first question a person asks after reading one of them: "Is there more?" You find yourself wanting to take a couple of weeks off from work to check out the rest.

A sage once said, "If we keep on the way we're going, we're going to wind up where we're headed." So this is a book to get now, because when we do wind up where we're headed, a book like this is only one of the things we won't be able to get.

In the great tradition of Harriet Tubman, who led slaves out of bondage via the underground railroad, Claire Wolfe provides clear directions back to America. The America some of us love and miss. An America where, to give just one little example, paying for something with legal tender didn't used to be seen as suspicious behavior.

It's about "how to retain ownership of our lives."

Wolfe reminds us that the recipe for freedom is a willingness to take risks, combined with a re-evaluation of priorities, followed by making the appropriate changes in lifestyle. (As another sage expressed it, you can do anything you want as long as you're willing to pay the price. A lot of times you don't end up having to pay the price - but you have to be willing.)

She discusses the extremes: primitive living at a level so far below the radar that the authorities don't bother with you - which can be a life of deprivation and loneliness - or sophisticated hiding - which can be ditto. How to escape? Shooting the bastards is not a real good idea, since all it tends to do is make the next crop of bastards even nastier.

Millions of Americans, Wolfe feels, "have now reached their line in the sand" and are ready to stop being sheeple. The preferred method is to "creatively disregard" the rulers - emotionally, mentally, philosophically and if necessary even physically. Leave the government even if you can't leave the country. Many methods of non-cooperation are suggested here, along with advice about how to handle such things as financial and medical affairs. For someone who hasn't heard about, for instance, the Free State Project, this could be a major life-changer.

The slogan of the cyberpunk crowd was, "Information wants to be free." These days, it's much more useful to remember this - "Information want to help us be free." The opportunities for further self-enlightenment in Wolfe's generous "Freedom Resources" section prove it.

In the News: Assault on Facebook!

An interesting article from http://www.ucg.org/ about the dangers of Facebook. This follows this post about the Biblical woman Deborah. For a free magazine subscription or to get this book for free click HERE! or call 1-888-886-8632.

In the News: Assault on Facebook!

article by Amanda Stiver

Facebook receives more than one billion logins each day.

Among those billion are 600,000 attempts to gain access illegally in order to steal photos and personal information belonging to members. Recently released by Facebook, these numbers show the magnitude of information theft or spamming attempted on social networking and other websites. Improving security measures is a constant concern (Emma Barnett, "Hackers Go after Facebook Sites 600,000 Times Every Day," The Telegraph , Oct. 29, 2011).

If you notice that your or a friend's account is sending out unusual messages, advertisements or videos to the account's entire friend list, don't click on these. They could jeopardize your page! Flag them as spam on the appropriate menu, send a message to the friend privately and let the person know that he or she needs to access the security menu and change the account's password.

Cyber-bullying

I wanted to let you know about this internet/social networking trend. It might not apply to you, but if you know someone with children, it could apply to them. In regards to social networking pages, a person should always be careful not to place information that could lead to identity theft on the page. Anyway, I hope you find this interesting.

Parents Often Unaware of Cyber-Bullying
Bullying doesn’t just happen on school grounds anymore. (Ruby Washington/The New York Times)Research indicates that as many as 75 percent of teens have been bullied online, but only one in 10 have reported the problem to parents or other adults, a new study shows. The study, published in the September issue of The Journal of School Health, is the latest to sound the alarm about so-called cyber-bullying, which can occur on social networking sites and in e-mail and text messages. Sometimes cyber-bullying involves taunting or threatening e-mail or text messages or putting embarrassing pictures or personal attacks on teen networking sites like MySpace or Facebook.“The Internet is not functioning as a separate environment but is connected with the social lives of kids in school,” said lead study author Jaana Juvonen, a professor of psychology and chair of the developmental psychology program at the University of California, Los Angeles. “Bullying on the Internet looks similar to what kids do face-to-face in school.”The U.C.L.A. study surveyed 1,454 teens between the ages of 12 and 17, who were recruited through an unidentified teen Web site from August through October 2005. Forty-one percent of the teenagers surveyed reported between one and three online bullying incidents over the course of a year, 13 percent reported four to six incidents, and 19 percent reported seven or more incidents.Despite the prevalence of cyber-bullying, many teens don’t realize how common it is and often believe it is only happening to them, Dr. Juvonen said.“When kids start thinking, ‘It’s just happening to me,’ they likely blame themselves, and once they do that, it increases their risk of depression,” Dr. Juvonen said. “Kids don’t know how common cyber-bullying is, even among their best friends. Cyber-bullying is not a plight of a few problematic children but a shared experience.”Teens in the survey said they didn’t tell their parents about the problems for a variety of reasons. Half of the teens who were cyber-bullied said they just “need to learn to deal with it.” Nearly one-third said they worried parents might restrict Internet access, a fear more commonly expressed among girls than boys. One-third of 12- to 14-year-olds said they didn’t tell an adult about the bullying out of fear that they could get into trouble with their parents.“Many parents do not understand how vital the Internet is to their social lives,” Dr. Juvonen said. “Parents can take detrimental action with good intentions, such as trying to protect their children by not letting them use the Internet at all. That is not likely to help parent-teen relationships or the social lives of their children.”Although most people view cyber-bullying as anonymous, nearly three out of four of the bullied teens in the survey said they knew or were “pretty sure” they knew who was doing the bullying.
