Why did America become such a great power?
John Hawkins concisely and brilliantly answered that question in his article, “The 7 Reasons America Became a Great Power.” Mr. Hawkins is a prolific writer and commentator whose work appears in many publications. This article was published April 1, 2014, in Townhall.com at http://townhall.com/columnists/johnhawkins/2014/04/01/the-7-reasons-america-became-a-great-power-n1817340 .
However, his excellent article fails to address another reason—in fact, the most important reason—that America became a great power. That reason will be explained after a listing of the 7 reasons. (In the article, each of the 7 reasons has a long paragraph explaining it.)
First, here is the introduction to Mr. Hawkins' article:
“We hear a great deal about how America needs to be 'changed' by people who don't seem to know America's history, understand our country's uniqueness, or appreciate how good we've had it as a people. Until you understand what made America a great nation to begin with, you have no business suggesting any changes to the policies, tradition, and culture that made us so uniquely successful. It's not an accident that America became a great power. It's because of these seven reasons.”
1) Judeo-Christian Ethics
2) Powerful Military
3) Western Culture
4) Geography
5) Industrial Capacity
6) A Merit-Based Society
7) A Constitution That Limited Centralized Government
These points also relate to freedom and free enterprise, a subject I wrote about in 2011— http://www.ucg.org/news-and-prophecy/freedom-and-free-enterprise-great-biblical-blessings/ .
The all-important point that Mr. Hawkins did not address is that most of the original colonists in America were descendants of the people known as “the lost 10 tribes of Israel.” In particular, most were descended from the tribe of Manasseh. Manasseh was the son of Joseph, who was the son of Jacob, who was the son of Isaac, who was the son of Abraham.
Because of Abraham's faith in God and obedience to God, God promised great rewards to his descendants. Those promises were reaffirmed and expanded to Isaac, Jacob and Joseph. “I will make you a great nation” (Genesis 12:2). “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them. So shall your descendants be” (Genesis 15:5). “I have made you a father of many nations” (Genesis 17:5). “Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him” (Genesis 18:18).
This truth and much, much more is explained in the Bible study aid booklet, The United States and Britain in Bible Prophecy . The booklet covers both biblical history plus the history of the migrations of “the lost 10 tribes of Israel” across the Caucasus Mountains (from which we get the word “Caucasian”) to Europe, the British Isles, and then to America. It shows how specific prophecies were fulfilled when Britain and the United States became powerful and prosperous and became a “blessing” to the rest of the world. This understanding greatly enlightens one's perspective on the past, present and future of the world.
More and more people are becoming aware of this profound and fundamental fact of history. Glenn Beck explained this subject quite well on August 8, 2013, on his TV program, The Blaze . It can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVkKFcl3fOU .
Joe Kovacs of WorldNetDaily published a very supportive report on August 29 with his article, “Glenn Beck: U.S. Identified in Bible.” His article began: “Radio and television host Glenn Beck is now going public with his belief the United States is among the famous “Lost 10 Tribes of Israel,” and America today is suffering calamities just as ancient Israel did due to its disobedience to the laws of God.” The WND article is at http://www.wnd.com/2013/08/glenn-beck-u-s-is-lost-tribe-of-israel/ .
This “8th reason” throws additional light on the other 7 reasons. With this additional understanding, you'll see how God's intervention has been the guiding hand to bring about all of these reasons.
Regardless of where you live in the world, this subject is profoundly important to understand. If you haven't read it already, I urge you to read, The United States and Britain in Bible Prophecy .
