The El Paso City Council voted on Tuesday to give City Manager Tommy Gonzalez a pay raise and enhance some of his other benefits.
Gonzalez, who was hired in May 2014 as the city's second city manager, will have a new base salary of $300,000, effective Sept. 1 when the city's new fiscal year begins.
The council also voted to increase Gonzalez's yearly deferred compensation of $15,000 by $5,000, and by an additional $5,000 each year that he remains as the city manager, up to $40,000.
His vacation time was increased to four weeks from two weeks, and he will be allowed to accrue up to six weeks of unused vacation time.
City Reps. Larry Romero, Dr. Michiel Noe, Emma Acosta, Cortney Niland, Claudia Ordaz and Peter Svarzbein voted in favor of the new salary and benefits package for Gonzalez. City Reps. Lily Limon and Carl Robinson voted against it.
