More Polls Show Voters in Democrat Districts Don't Want Pro-Abortion Health CareWashington, DC (www.LifeNews.com) --
A third set of polls released by a national pro-life women's group finds voters in the congressional districts of pro-life and moderate Democrats do not want abortion funding in health care. They are opposed to the Senate pro-abortion health care bill and will hold their lawmakers accountable for supporting it.
Including this new set of polls, SBA has contracted a reputable polling firm to survey 19 total congressional districts and in every case the polls have shown strongly pro-life results.
The new set of polls covers Reps. Joe Donnelly, Dale Kildee, James Oberstar, Allen Boyd, Earl Pomeroy, Richard Neal and John Barrow in Michigan, Minnesota and Indiana.
SBA president Marjorie Dannenfelser said it’s time for Democrats who are pro-life or moderates to “either a hero or a complete sell out."
“These poll results are the driving force behind our grassroots mobilization efforts this week. We have spent $1.6 million so far fighting abortion funding in health care reform and these poll results show why. The American people reject federal funding of abortion in any so-called ‘health care’ bill,” she told Politico.

Battle for Washington: Pro-Life Coalition Giving Last Full Measure on Health Care

With what may be the final onslaught of the health care bill coming this weekend, pro-life advocates are giving the last full measure in a battle to defeat the legislation, which would allow federal dollars to subsidize abortion coverage and Planned Parenthood to tap into billions of dollars set aside for community health providers. The latest vote predictions say passage of President Barack Obama’s health care reform is too close to call, and pro-life advocates have put their utmost into working – and praying – to hold together a bipartisan pro-life coalition against health care reform in the House of Representatives. The effort itself could become their finest hour in the health care saga. Americans United for Life has unrolled an aggressive “Life Counts” campaign targeting approximately 40-41 Democrats - whose votes together will be critical to defeating ObamaCare - through print ads, text messages, live phone calls, email-blasts, and the Internet.
Congressmen on Capitol Hill are expected to vote on health care reform before Obama leaves for Indonesia on Sunday, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) are pushing representatives hard to line up behind a vote for the Senate health care bill.
“There’s a lot of pressure on these folks here in Washington,” said AUL’s Vice President for Communications, Matthew Faraci.
“The only voice that is equal to what they are hearing here in Washington is their constituents back home. Their constituents back home are against this bill, and they don’t want to see taxpayer funding for abortion, so we are reaching directly to those constituents.”
Faraci said that pro-life advocates have “got to go to the district office” in order to have the most influence of their Congressman.
“That is what it is all about,” he told LSN, relating his own experience on Capitol Hill. “I think it is valid to send an email, make a phone call, send a fax, all those things I think are very good, but none of those things has the impact of a personal visit.”
The district office director, Faraci explained, will call and report to a member of Congress the number of constituents that made personal visits to his office. The fact that an individual took the time to show up, Faraci said, shows that he feels “very, very strongly” about the issue, and reminds a Congressman that constituents like that could put him out of a job come November. The National Right to Life Committee emphasized in a recent action alert that timing is of the essence to Pelosi, who is trying to force a vote by this weekend. “Most political observers agree that if Speaker Pelosi does not succeed in ramming the Senate bill through the House by the time Congress goes into recess for Easter on March 26, the bill is effectively dead," stated NRLC. "Whether she succeeds or not depends on what House members hear from their constituents during the next two weeks."
AUL has launched print ads running in the newspapers of Congressmen’s home districts, featuring a picture of two hands cradling a baby, and addressing the specific Congressman to say: “When it comes to voting for health reform, we know you have your hands full.”
The ad informs readers, “The health care bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives prevents taxpayer-funded abortion. The U.S. Senate health care bill — on the other hand — does allow your tax dollars to pay for abortion. Those are stark differences with serious consequences.” The first salvo of ads targets the districts of House Representatives Jerry F. Costello (D- Illinois); Joe Donnelly (D-Indiana), Baron P. Hill (D-Indiana), Marcy Kaptur of (D-Ohio), Charles Wilson (D-Ohio), Earl Pomeroy (D-North Dakota), Alan B. Mollohan (D-West Virginia), Nick Rahall of (D-West Virginia). Susan B. Anthony List has also entered the fray, revealing poll data from 19 key Democratic districts that show their voters are strongly opposed – between 60 to 80 percent – to any federal subsidies that would fund abortion. The polls also showed that between 45 – 65 percent of voters in their respective districts would be “less likely” to vote for them, if health care legislation passed that allowed federal dollars to end up subsidizing abortions.
Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, also issued an urgent fax alert to priests and deacons nationwide on Monday urging them to join with Catholic parishioners in contacting their Congressmen to express opposition to the health care bill.
"The lives of millions of unborn children depend on all of us taking action now," said Fr. Pavone.
"The Senate version of the health care bill would expand access to abortion like never before in history. With a decisive vote possible this week in the House, there is no time to waste."

House to Consider Bill Incentivizing Embryo Destruction

A bill has been introduced to the House of Representatives that would set in stone guidelines developed for the National Institute of Health's embryo-destructive stem cell research. Pro-life sources on Capitol Hill warn, however, that the bill's wording goes farther than the NIH guidelines, providing broad authorization for research on stem cells taken from cloned embryos, and embryos conceived solely to be destroyed in research.The "Stem Cell Research Advancement Act," HR 4808, was introduced by Reps. Diana DeGette (D-CO) and Mike Castle (R-DE) on March 9, the anniversary of President Obama's signing of an executive order to unleash funds for the research.While guidelines proposed by the NIH ostensibly restricted research to only "leftover" embryos created for in-vitro fertilization, the legislation calls for the Secretary to “conduct and support research that utilizes human stem cells, including human embryonic stem cells” without any limitation regarding the purpose behind the creation of the embryo. Another section of HR 4808 directs the Secretary to update stem cell guidelines “as scientifically warranted” - leaving open the possibility that future embryonic stem-cell projects could be carried out against embryos created solely to be killed in research.In addition, while the bill appears to bar use of the funds "for the conduct or support of human cloning," the language actually allows for the creation of such embryos, as long as they are not permitted to survive. This is because the bill defines "human cloning" as "the implantation" of a cloned embryo - rather than the creation of one - in Sec. 498F (c). Last Wednesday, Rep. John Fleming (R-LA) commemorated the anniversary of Obama's executive order by denouncing the needless destruction of innocent human life."Our research and decisions must be life-affirming," said Fleming, who pointed out that research into adult stem cells - which do not take a human life - has already yielded scores of remedies for previously untreatable conditions. Meanwhile, embryo-destructive research, which Fleming called "out of date," has produced no reliable treatments to date.

As members of the Obama administration continue to deny that the Senate health bill contains funding for abortion, the leader of the pro-life House Democrats has asserted once more that, in private conversation, leaders of the party have admitted that the bill is intended to fund abortion.
Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) described to FOX News last week a spat he says he had with Rep. Henry Waxman, the Democrat Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, over Stupak's proposed abortion funding ban.
"I gave [Waxman] the language. He came back a little while later and said, 'But we want to pay for abortions,'" said Stupak. "I said, 'Mr. Chairman, that's - we disagree. We don't do it now, we're not going to start.'
Stupak said Waxman replied, "But we think we should."
"I said, 'Well, I'm sorry but the House has spoken. We had that debate. We won 240-190. You forced the vote, a vote we won fair and square and we're not gonna - this is what it is," said Stupak. "If you want to move health care keep current law.'"
However, while Democrat leaders continue to block Stupak's pro-life provision - which is modeled after the Hyde amendment - they simultaneously claim that the legislation is subject to the existing Hyde amendment anyway, a claim that has been repeatedly debunked by the National Right to Life Committee and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
The New York Times published Sunday what it claimed was an "internal Health and Human Services memo" insisting that the Hyde amendment, which bans abortion funding except in cases if rape or incest, would apply.
"The President and Secretary Sebelius have repeatedly stated their strong commitment to ensuring that health insurance reform does not change the status quo on abortion policy," stated the memo. "In the health insurance reform legislation pending in Congress, the status quo is maintained: There is no federal funding for abortions except in cases of rape or incest, or where the life of the woman would be endangered."
Although it is generally believed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has not yet switched enough "no" votes to pass the measure, the White House is hoping to push the bill through the House by March 18. Pelosi has continued to express confidence that Democrats are "on the verge of making history."
Because a final health vote may be imminent, the National Right to Life Committee has sent out a legislative action alert urging pro-lifers to contact legislators once more to oppose the bill.

Take Action Now to Stop the Pro-Abortion Health Care Bill!

For the last 10 months, www.LifeNews.com has written hundreds of news stories and carried dozens of editorials from top pro-life leaders and activists warning about the health care bill that will pay for perhaps hundreds of thousands of abortions.
That battle is coming to a head this week as the House considers passing the pro-abortion Senate health care bill and possibly using a procedural trick to do so that would pass the bill without taking a vote on it.
To get to the point quickly, your action is needed NOW to stop that pro-life organizations have told LifeNews.com is the biggest expansion of abortion and taxpayer funding of abortion since Roe v. Wade in 1973.If you haven't called or emailed to oppose the pro-abortion health care bill and the procedural tactics to stop it (and even if you have!) please keep reading because there is so much you can do to help.
Contact Your Member of Congress and Urge a NO Vote
1. The first thing every pro-life advocate should do is contact your member of Congress and urge a no vote. Don't just urge a no vote on the Senate bill (H.R. 3590) but on any companion/reconciliation bill to make changes to it (which will not include stopping abortion funding or promotion) and on the so-called Slaughter Rule that would allow the how to "deem" the Senate bill passed if the rule for debate is adopted.
If you have already asked your House member to vote no on the bill, please go back and urge a no vote on any companion/reconciliation bill and the Slaughter Rule.
You can find contact information for any member of Congress at http://www.house.gov and using the pull down list at the top or the zip code search.
2. If you've called or emailed your House member, there is still more you can do. We suggest contacting your House member via different methods so your representatives and their staff see an overwhelming onslaught of opposition.
Please also contact your House member's local offices (usually listed on their web site) and urge a no vote to staff in those offices as well. These local offices frequently compile the number of calls for or against a bill and send them to the representatives and their key staff who advise them.
Next, contact your House member via Twitter and Facebook. Leave a message on their Facebook page and send a direct message to them on Twitter. Many representatives personally check these pages and their Twitter accounts and all are maintained by influential staffers. Just search for their name on each social networking web site or find a link from their House.gov web page.
3. Please ask every pro-life person you know -- friends, family, church members, etc. -- to contact their members of Congress and urge no votes. 4.Contact Other House Members and Urge No Votes
Although most House members ignore emails and calls from people who live outside their legislative district, consider taking the time to call them anyway. LifeNews.com also suggests contacting key House members via Twitter and Facebook, where it is harder to ascertain the location of people writing to them.
It is also especially important to contact House members on the following committees whether they are your representative or not: the House Budget Committee and the House Rules Committee.
Why? These two committees are likely going to be voting on bills and rules for debate that will affect the final outcome of the health care vote. You can find links to those committee web sites at http://www.house.gov (use the committee scroll down list at the top) and those sites each list members of the committee.
Contact every Democratic member of those committees and urge no votes on any health care bills and rules.

Bart Stupak of Michigan told the Associated Press this week that he was "more optimistic than I was a week ago" about including an abortion-funding ban in health care reform - sparking speculation by some that his new-found optimism was merely a prelude to his “caving in” or compromising on the issue.
But the lawmaker has clarified that he does not intend to back down on his standard for the language, nor would he be satisfied if that language came in a later "fix" bill, after the Senate bill makes it to the President's desk.
In response to those who suggested that Stupak might have been considering throwing in the towel on abortion funding, the congressman told The Weekly Standard Tuesday, "Obviously they don’t know me."
"If I didn’t" cave in November, he said, "why would I do it now after all the crap I’ve been through?"
Stupak asserted that "there's no such thing as a compromise" on the abortion-funding language in the bills. Stupak, the author of the Hyde-amendment restriction on abortion funding in the House health care bill, has repeatedly confirmed that he and a cadre of about a dozen pro-life Democrats would vote down the Senate health bill if it did not include the same language.
The Michigan lawmaker acknowledged, however, that it is unclear how such language could be incorporated into the bill at this stage in the game.
Because Democrat leaders hope to avoid subjecting the measure to another vote in the Senate - where the party recently lost its filibuster-proof majority - House Democrats have been pushed to scrape up enough votes in the House to pass the entire Senate bill unamended. Because Democrats are unwilling to amend the legislation, therefore, some have suggested that House lawmakers should simply pass the bill anyway in anticipation of a later "fix" bill that would address their concerns.
Stupak said he didn't buy the idea.
"If they say 'we’ll give you a letter saying we'll take care of this later,' that’s not acceptable because later never comes," he said.
"Members don’t have a whole lot of appetite to vote for the Senate bill as a stand alone bill - that’s for sure," said the Michigan Democrat. "If you're going to correct these inequities in the Senate bill, you better tie bar it to something. No one wants to vote for a freestanding bill so they can be accused of voting for a special deal for Nebraska on Medicaid."
Stupak said that Democrats would at least have to "tie-bar" all the fixes together to pass or fail all at the same time. In any case, he said, Democrat leaders have given no clear message on how they propose to pass the fixes. For example, while President Obama has proposed several pages of changes, it is unclear how such changes would apply to what the Senate already voted through.
"[The president's proposals are] different than what the Senate did," he said. "So do they take three [measures] and merge it into one and stick it in a bill called reconciliation, or just do the Senate bill as a stand alone? ...
"It is so confusing on what the parliamentary procedures are going to be."
The White House has been pushing Democrat leaders in the House to have that chamber pass the Senate bill by March 18, before President Obama is scheduled to depart on an overseas trip.
Yet according to Democratic aides cited by Politico, a frustrated House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has asked White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel to "cool it" on assigning deadlines for the bill - which has already missed countless deadlines over the past year.

If anyone was looking for a self-righteous extreme feminist, they found one in Angie Jackson. This is a woman who was so proud she was aborting her baby that she announced she would "tweet" her chemical-cocktail abortion live, as it happened, on Twitter. The liberal media found this made-for-TV slaughter fascinating, and not at all a controversy worthy of discussing with two sides.
Newsweek's Sarah Kliff proclaimed: "One hundred thousand people have watched Angie Jackson's abortion. Late last month, Jackson posted a video of herself to YouTube, recorded after she took RU-486, a medication used to end pregnancies." Kliff asked only "why shame remains" about the act of killing one's baby. Jackson was honored for her courage in "demystifying" and "destigmatizing" the procedure: "We need 10,000 more of her," proclaimed Peg Johnston, chair of something called the Abortion Care Network. This desire for 10,000 more unashamed abortions is what "pro-choice" is all about.

Overall, this was just another classic tale from the "news" magazine that lamented 20 years ago that "Sadly, many home (abortion) remedies could damage a fetus instead of kill it." What about the pro-life side?
Newsweek devoted just one sentence to Silent No More, a website where women tell a different abortion story and now speak publicly of their shame and regret. But women are increasingly coming forward everywhere, just like the original "Jane Roe," Norma McCorvey, publicly admitting the horror of their actions, genuinely penitent -- and genuinely forgiven. But their stories aren't deemed "newsworthy."
CNN interviewed Angie Jackson on the morning of March 8, and they were explicit in rejecting any notion that Jackson deserved a rebuttal. Anchor Kyra Phillips declared after the interview that "as you can imagine, we received a lot of response about even doing this story because abortion is such a controversial issue, and we really didn't want to get into a debate about abortion, but rather, look at what people are doing now, using social networking."

That's a unique concept: Abortion is so controversial that we feel it's best to only let one side talk -- the side that's taking a child's life on camera.
CNN claims these days that they are the sober and neutral center between MSNBC and Fox News, but there was nothing neutral about their sympathy for Jackson. Phillips rushed to proclaim that the most savage part of Jackson's abortion was the pro-lifer comments.
"These are really harsh," the anchor warned. "But people wrote in and said -- they called you all kinds of names, from being a whore to someone who just couldn't keep her legs closed. They called you a baby killer. I mean, it's even hard for me to say these things because some of those -- the e-mails and the responses were so brutal."
As brutal as an abortion? Worse than that, Phillips never acknowledged that pro-lifers most certainly filled Twitter (and the heavens) with their hopes and prayers for her. CNN cannot deny those e-mails were there.
CNN also showed some of Jackson's horrific YouTube video, where she admitted that her baby had the "potential" for life, "but it (it!) was more likely to kill me, and you're not going to shame me. ... I do not feel sorry that I saved my life. I do not feel sorry that I stayed here for myself, for my boyfriend, for my kid that I've already got."
CNN didn't define that sentiment -- or lack of it -- as "really harsh." CNN never told their viewers that Jackson's nom de plume on Twitter is "Anti-Theist Angie." Nor did CNN consider the "brutal" contents of Jackson's Twitter page to be worth commentary. Here are some examples of statements Jackson "retweeted" as worthy comments about Jesus after she popped up on CNN:
"Who would Jesus do? He'd totally do Anti-Theist Angie just to prove a point to those who sully his/her name."
And: "Where would Jesus donate? To science-based education, and better abortion techniques!"
And: "Jesus hates the little women, all the women of the world."
To their credit, when ABC's "World News" hyped this story Feb. 28, they at least allowed conservative Cathy Ruse of the Family Research Council to declare, "Your heart breaks for this woman. And I hope that it doesn't encourage, I hope that what she's doing won't encourage others to take this path." ABC's online story also allowed a few paragraphs of pro-life argument.
ABC weekend anchor Dan Harris noted Jackson was an "outspoken atheist," and quoted her saying, "I hope everybody on YouTube has a great and godless day. Peace."
Jackson said she was four weeks pregnant when she aborted her child. The technology now exists to see just about every human feature -- eyes, hands, feet, even the human nipple -- on a "fetus" 1 inch in size, and only two weeks older. Peace.

Hillary Clinton Tells Brazilians to Consider Legalizing Abortion
Repeats unsubstantiated claim about Brazilian hospital visit

SAO PAULO, March 4, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Hillary Clinton told Brazilians yesterday to consider legalizing abortion in a nationally televised interview broadcast from Zumbi dos Palmares University, in Sao Paulo.
In response to a question about the prohibition of abortion in Brazil, posed by one of the students, Clinton responded by saying that legalizing abortion "is something that needs to be carefully thought about because of the great effect it has on the numbers of children that poor women have that they can’t educate, feed properly, care for, the great toll that illegal abortions take, and the denial of women being able to exercise such a fundamental personal right."
Abortion in Brazil is illegal except in rape cases. More than two-thirds of Brazilians support their country's laws prohibiting the killing of the unborn, a number that has climbed in recent years.
The Secretary of State also repeated a controversial claim she made last year in congressional hearings regarding a trip she supposedly made to a Brazilian hospital where women were dying from botched illegal abortions.
"I visited a hospital here in Brazil back in the 1990s, and I’ll never forget one of the doctors telling me that this hospital that I visited was a hospital that had the best of feelings and the worst of feelings," said Clinton. "And I said, 'Well, what do you mean?' He said, 'Well, half the hospital are women having babies, and they are so excited. And half the hospital are women who are suffering from illegal abortions, and they are very sad.' I’ll never forget that."
The words used by Clinton were almost identical to those she uttered in a hearing of the House Foreign Affairs Committee in April of 2009, when she said, "I've been in hospitals in Brazil where half the women were enthusiastically and joyfully greeting their babies, and the other half were fighting for their lives against botched abortions."
However, when questioned by the National Catholic Register following the hearing, the State Department admitted it could not substantiate the story.
Spokeswoman Laura Tischler reportedly told the Register that she was "unable to confirm where or when the trip she referred to in her testimony was - where specifically in Brazil she was visiting or when the trip occurred."

MSM and the Obamacare Vote Count

The announcement by Democratic Congressman Bart Stupak that he and a dozen others Democrats would not vote for the Senate bill because it provides for taxpayer-funding of abortion greatly complicates Nancy Pelosi's task. What MSM has not done, however, is to report on who these dozen members are, or how the count stands generally. This is part of the year-long cheerleading effort by the Manhattan-Beltway media elite of the Obamacare agenda --never providing focus for the public on who might be on the fence. Such focus would greatly increase the public pressure on those members, thus increasing the difficulty the president and the Speaker face in getting Obamacare passed. Senators facing the tradition-destroying reconciliation votes would also hesitate to throw in with the White House if they knew that the Senate bill wasn't going to pass the House anyway.Which means everyone is very interested in in knowing where the vote count stands, and yet there is zero reporting of "yeas," "nays," and undecideds. The most important vote on domestic policy in decades and the MSM's scores of alleged reporters in D.C. cannot come up with a House scorecard? This is a repeat of the Edwards fiasco --a complete unwillingness of the so-called "journalistic elite" to dig out the facts even though there is immense interest in the facts. It is much easier to report the Speaker's spin or the president's 100th "last ditch effort" than it is to call 435 offices or seek out the key few dozen members who hold the fate of Obamacare in their hands.It is MSM's job, but Obamacare fans hope they continue not to do it.The lists of Blue Dog Democrats and of pro-Obamacare Democrats from swing districts are in this post.
