Happy Independence Day to Mexicans in Mexico!!

VDARE.Com Wishes Mexicans A Happy Bicentennial/Centennial—In Mexico

It's an exciting time in Mexico, as the country celebrates its Independence Day  (15-16 September). And it's not just any Independence Day either. This year it's the Bicentennial. And not only that, it's also the Centennial! How is that possible?

First off, let's get one thing out of the way—Cinco de Mayo. Cinco de Mayo is not an important holiday in Mexico. The last school year in which I taught in Mexico, my school didn't even bother to let out for it! The recent promotion of Cinco de Mayo north of the border owes a lot to beer companies, ethnic activists, and pandering politicians. It's a tool for the Hispanicization of the United States. But in Mexico, it's mostly ignored.

The two patriotic Mexican holidays that truly are celebrated by the people are Independence Day and Revolution Day (traditionally November 20th but nowadays the third Monday in November).

Independence Day celebrates the night in 1810 when Catholic priest Miguel Hidalgo gathered a crowd and rang a bell in front of a church in the town of Dolores, calling for the multitude to rise up against the government of the Spanish viceroy. Hidalgo wasn't actually calling for independence from Spain, which was then subject to Napoleon, but after his death the movement he began became focused on independence. Mexico finally became independent in 1821. But today it's the 1810 date which is celebrated, not the 1821 date.

Revolution Day celebrates the beginning of the Mexican Revolution in 1910, a civil war that lasted about 10 years (historians aren't in agreement on its end point). This conflict is most notable for producing the current (though much-revised) Mexican Constitution.

Thus, in 2010, Mexico celebrates both its Bicentennial of Independence and its Centennial of Revolution.

The Mexicans have pulled out all the stops to celebrate this year. Planning began in 2006 under the Fox administration. Calendar year 2010 is a year-long festival, with all sorts of programs to commemorate the Bicentennial and Centennial.

I have been writing about this on other websites. If interested you can see my articles here , here, here, here and here.

The Bicentennial/Centennial year of 2010 is being commemorated by over 700 activities. There are ceremonies, conferences, radio shows and art exhibitions. Mexican television stations broadcast related programming, and highways are marked with the Ruta 2010 signs indicating historical routes.

It's not only the Mexican federal government which is promoting the Bicentennial. So are all 31 states and the Federal District (Mexico City).

It's even being celebrated outside of Mexico—which mostly means in the United States. Here are some photographs of celebrations which have already taken place in Los Angeles and Chicago (including the participation of one Jose Hernandez, the anchor baby astronaut).

Meanwhile, back in Mexico there's even a Bicentennial song which was designated the official Bicentennial song but then declared not to be the official song! Anyway, it's still out there and it's catchy. You can see and hear the video here. It's written by Jaime Lopez and sung by Aleks Syntek, both white Mexicans. Lopez has the beard. Singer/keyboardist Syntek (real name Raul Escajadillo) looks like Elton John in his younger days and in fact has been called the Mexican Elton John.

Soon however, a parody surfaced on YouTube, which references contemporary Mexican life in lyrics such as "taxes go up", "gasoline goes up", "another [narco] gunfight". It's also worth listening to, here.

Mexico city's main plaza is called the Zocalo. It's where, because Mexicans don't have to put up with a War on Christmas, an enormous artificial Christmas tree is set up each winter. It's also where the traditional 15th of September Grito celebration is held by the president, who stands on the balcony of the Capitol Building, waves a Mexican flag and calls out vivas for Mexico and famous historical personages.

Since this is the much-touted Bicentennial, this year's Grito might well be the biggest one yet. Likewise the annual parade on September 16th could be the biggest one yet.

Interestingly enough, there are 575 foreign military troops marching in the parade, from 16 countries, including the U.S. But the Mexican president had to get permission from the Mexican Senate to allow them to march in the parade.

Certainly, there is criticism of the big Bicentennial/Centennial bash. There are questions about the cost, and reflective questions about what Mexico has actually accomplished in 200 years.

Nevertheless, these criticisms are couched in terms of a Mexican context. The critics are not calling for Mexican holidays to be abandoned in favor of the 4th of July!

Whatever Mexicans may think of their government or its direction, they love their patriotic festivals. They love their flag and national anthem. They prefer their Constitution to ours. They love being Mexicans. And it doesn't matter what kinds of problems Mexico has, or what people think of the government. Mexicans want to remain being Mexicans.

And this applies to the vast majority of Mexicans who immigrate (legally or illegally) to the United States. They don't come seeking freedom and they are not starving. Most do not come with a burning desire to become Americans. They may oppose or be indifferent to the current Mexican government, but they are not rejecting Mexican culture.

So if you transplant millions of Mexicans to the U.S., what's going to happen? They are going to transplant Mexican culture into the United States. And the more Mexicans we bring in, the harder it's going to be to assimilate them—especially when our own government encourages them not to assimilate!

Mexicans don't want the U.S. to take over their country. They might, however, take over our country if we just hand it over to them!

The basic problem is not Mexican nationalism. Mexican nationalism is not bad, it's good. True Mexican patriotism is a bulwark against globalism, including "North American Union" schemes.

In short, Mexican nationalism is good for Mexicans—in Mexico. It's when the U.S. imports Mexican nationalism into its own body politic that we're asking for trouble.

It's up to our leaders, not Mexico's leaders, to defend U.S. sovereignty.

A true patriot, therefore, can appreciate the patriotism of foreigners. As C.S. Lewis wrote in The Four Loves:

"How can I love my home without coming to realize that other men, no less rightly, love theirs? Once you have realized that Frenchmen like café complet
just as we like
bacon and eggs—why good luck to them and let them have it. The last thing we want is to make everywhere else just like our own home. It would not be home unless it were different."

And, as Alexander Solzhenitsyn said in his 1970 Nobel speech,

"..the disappearance of nations would have impoverished us no less than if all men had become alike, with one personality and one face. Nations are the wealth of mankind, its collective personalities; the very least of them wears its own special colours and bears within itself a special facet of divine intention."

Lewis and Solzhenitsyn refer to well-defined differences between cultures. When one culture is invading and supplanting another culture, then that's an entirely different situation. That's why, as the saying goes, "Good Fences Make Good Neighbors".

So, let's all wish Mexico a happy Bicentennial/Centennial. Have a great fiesta. Let it be a time of celebration and reflection.

Then let Mexico construct its own future and let us construct ours. If the U.S. and Mexico can work together on issues of mutual interest, by all means let us do so. But each society should be in charge of its own country.

Happy Bicentennial/Centennial, Mexico!

Another State Targets Abortion Practitioner Injuring Patients, Violating Standards

An interesting story from www.lifenews.com about extremes in abortion practices. This follows this post about the Tea Party and abortion. For more interesting stories like this click here to follow this blog.

Another State Targets Abortion Practitioner Injuring Patients, Violating Standards
Trenton, NJ (LifeNews.com) -- Another state is going after abortion practitioner and abortion business owner Steven Chase Brigham. He operates abortion centers known as American Women's Services in Voorhees, New Jersey as well as facilities in Pennsylvania and Maryland, where he has also been disciplined for numerous problems.

New Jersey authorities yesterday filed the papers required to start the process of potentially suspending Brigham's medical license.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the papers say Brigham "has committed serious violations" of medical practice rules that "would represent a clear and imminent danger to the public health, safety and welfare." Attorney General Paula Dow is now requiring Brigham to provide evidence to counter the charges and show why he does not deserve to have his medical license suspended.

In Pennsylvania, in July, the Pennsylvania Department of Health ordered Brigham to shut down four of his abortion centers for reportedly employing medical staff who were not properly licensed with the state -- and potentially putting women's health at risk.

And Maryland Board of Physicians and Elkton police compiled documents unveiling numerous problems and later conducted a raid of his Maryland abortion facility. Authorities who raided Brigham's abortion center discovered the remains of 35 late-term aborted babies in jars. Full story at www.LifeNews.com

Christine O'Donnell Can Win in November!

An interesting story from http://www.teapartyexpress.org/ about Christine O'Donnell's ability to win in November. This follows this previous post about the Senate Race in Delaware. For more interesting stories like this click here to follow this blog.

Christine O'Donnell Can Win in November!

In the past 24 hours we've heard all sorts of political pundits and journalists say that Christine O'Donnell can't in November and defeat her Democrat opponent, Chris Coons.

Friends - this is complete nonsense for two reasons:

1) Christine O'Donnell actually held a lead in some polls over Democrat Chris Coons over the summer (before the liberals in the Republican establishment started trashing her). She can regain that lead with your help and support.

2) The people who are saying that Christine O'Donnell can't win in November were the same people saying she couldn't win the GOP primary over liberal RINO Mike Castle, who was a 9-term Congressman and former Governor of Delaware.

We can prove the "experts" and liberal journalists wrong again, friends! But we need your help to build up a massive warchest for our campaign supporting Christine O'Donnell so she can fight off the Democratic Party establishment that is sharpening their knives and preparing to go all out to defeat her.

Please support our campaign for Christine O'Donnell with a donation - HERE.

You can contribute as little as $5 up to the maximum allowed $5,000 contribution. We're hoping that at least 1,000 conservatives and tea party activists will contribute $100 or more in the next 24 hours.

Raymond Ibrahim: The Specter of Muslim Disloyalty in America

A very interesting post from www.jihadwatch.org about Muslim Treason. This follows this post about an anti-Christian backlash due to supposed Quran burning and this article about the recent news about the ban offshore drilling which would encourage American energy independence This is a key issue to prevent money from going to hostile countries such as Iran and Venezuela. For more posts like this click here.

Raymond Ibrahim: The Specter of Muslim Disloyalty in America
In "The Specter of Muslim Disloyalty in America" at Pajamas Media (via www.RaymondIbrahim.com ), September 13, our old friend and former colleague Raymond Ibrahim explores the mandate for Muslims to be loyal to fellow Muslims and Islam above all other allegiances -- including the American government:

Islamist enmity for infidels, regularly manifested in the jihad, is by now moderately well known. Lesser known, however, but of equal concern, is the mandate for Muslims to be loyal to fellow Muslims and Islam -- a loyalty that all too often translates into disloyalty to all things non-Muslim, including the American people and their government.
This dichotomy of loyalty to Muslims and enmity for infidels -- which, incidentally, corresponds well with Islamic law's division of the world into the abode of war (deserving of enmity) and the abode of Islam (deserving of loyalty) -- is founded on a Muslim doctrine called wala' wa bara' (best translated as "loyalty and enmity"). I first encountered this doctrine while translating various Arabic documents for The Al Qaeda Reader. In fact, the longest and arguably most revealing document I included in that volume is titled "Loyalty and Enmity" (pgs.63-115), compiled by Aymen Zawahiri, al-Qaeda's number two.

I say "compiled" because most of the words are direct quotes from the Koran, the Muslim prophet Muhammad, and Islam's jurists (i.e., this doctrine is not an "al-Qaeda" phenomenon but rather permeates the Islamicate worldview). Those interested are urged to read the whole treatise. For our purposes, however, a few key scriptures must suffice:

Koran 5:51 warns Muslims against "taking the Jews and Christians as friends and allies ... whoever among you takes them for friends and allies, he is surely one of them," i.e., he becomes a non-believing "infidel," the worst thing in Islam. According to authoritative Muslim exegete, al-Tabari, Koran 5:51 means that the Muslim who "allies with them [non-Muslims] and enables them against the believers, that same one is a member of their faith and community." Similar scriptures include Koran 3:28, 4:89, 4:144, 5:54, 6:40, 9:23, and 58:22; the latter simply states that true Muslims do not befriend non-Muslims -- "even if they be their fathers, sons, brothers, or kin." Conversely, according to Muhammad, "A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim. He neither oppresses him nor humiliates him nor looks down upon him.... All things of a Muslim are inviolable for his brother in faith: his blood, his wealth, and his honor" -- precisely those three things Islamic law singles out as not being vouchsafed to free infidels.

The problem here is that these scriptures are not mere words; American Muslims act on them. Consider the ongoing case of Nasser Abdo, an infantryman assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, who refuses to deploy to Afghanistan: "I don't believe I can involve myself in an army that wages war against Muslims. I don't believe I could sleep at night if I take part, in any way, in the killing of a Muslim.... I can't deploy with my unit to Afghanistan and participate in the war -- I can't both deploy and be a Muslim." And why is that? "Abdo cited Islamic scholars and verses from the Quran [no doubt such as the above] as reasons for his decision to ask for separation from the Army." Indeed, his loyalty to foreign Afghani Muslims is such that, if he does not get discharged, "he will, apparently, be facing a prison sentence."...

More phones today vs. DREAM amnesty‏

A timely post from www.numbersusa.com about opposing the DREAM ACT. This follows this post about what you can do to get better candidates this election cycle and this post about the MURDER of ROBERT KRENTZ, who the protestors and boycotters won't give a solution for, but will call Americans racist for trying to prevent another MURDER, and this post which shows that there are 30,000 openly illegal immigrants in the border town of El Paso. "Currently we are being beat by anti-immigrants 10 calls to 1. That means for every 1 call you make in support 10 people are calling against the DREAM Act."
-- Pro-Amnesty Group's Alert From Last Night

YOUR PHONING YESTERDAY WAS PHENOMENAL
-- MORE NEEDED TODAY TO STOP DREAM ACT AMNESTY

HERE ARE TOP SENATE TARGETS

Your phoning of Senate offices yesterday opposing a vote on amnesty as early as next week dismayed the national coalition of open-borders groups. They had begun their own phone campaign earlier in the day and had hoped to show Senators that the nation is clamoring for another amnesty.

Your reaction to my mid-afternoon alert was incredible.

But you can't stop now.

ACTION: Phone Senators. Tell them you are outraged that Majority Leader Reid has announced plans to force a vote on an illegal-alien amnesty as part of the Defense bill.

CAPITOL SWITCHBOARD: 202-224-3121

It is most important today that you call the offices of the Senators who are being targeted by the pro-amnesty groups. The following are the ones who are being clobbered with phone calls telling them to pass the DREAM Act amnesty. These are people who have NOT co-sponsored the amnesty but whose past records make the open-borders people think they are vulnerable to pro-amnesty pressure.

Especially if you have any connection to these states or Senators, give them a call today.

REPUBLICANS

Sen. McCain of Arizona
Sen. LeMeiux of Florida
Sen. Brownback of Kansas
Sen. Bunning of Kentucky
Sen. Collins of Maine
Sen. Snowe of Maine
Sen. Brown of Massachusetts
Sen. Gregg of New Hampshire
Sen. Voinovich of Ohio
Sen. Hutchison of Texas
Sen. Bennet of Utah
Sen. Hatch of Utah

DEMOCRATS

Sen. Pryor of Arkansas
Sen. Feinstein of California
Sen. Nelson of Florida
Sen. Hagan of North Carolina
Sen. Landrieu of Louisiana
Sen. Baucus of Montana
Sen. Tester of Montana
Sen. Conrad of North Dakota
Sen. Dorgan of North Dakota

I am so impressed with how quickly you moved yesterday.

You didn't hear from me until the middle of Tuesday afternoon. I wrote as soon as I heard that Senate Majority Leader Reid (D-Nev.) was probably going to force a vote on the DREAM Act Amnesty as an amendment to the Defense authorization bill.

But in those few hours left in the day, you all became a Phone Cyclone!

I can't independently confirm that you overwhelmed the pro-amnesty phone campaign by such a large amount as the pro-amnesty groups were claiming last night. It may be that the open-borders groups are exaggerating with their own members in order to spur them to far greater calling today.

One thing for sure, though, is that they won't let up this week or next. Every sign is that they believe they have no chance of winning an amnesty the next two years and that the next three weeks are their only chance.

To add this amnesty to the Defense bill, Sen. Reid will need 60 votes. He is claiming 40 Senators as co-sponsors. He has also variously indicated that perhaps 15 more Senators have said to him that they will vote for the amnesty.

Your job is to give those 15 Senators second thoughts and to make sure that the 5-Senator gap doesn't get closed.

ACTION: Go to your Action Board and make sure you have considered all the opportunities for action there.
www.numbersusa.com/actionbuffet .

When I first alerted you yesterday, I had no mainstream media confirmation of Sen. Reid's plans. But soon after, the story broke that he intends to move the amnesty for 2.1 million illegal aliens as an amendment to the Defense bill as early as next week.

Every pro-amnesty religious group, pro-amnesty leftist group and pro-amnesty conservative group in the country has mobilized their memberships in a last-ditch effort at some kind of amnesty.

KEY TALKING POINTS

No. 1: The rhetoric for DREAM is false and misleading. This amnesty is NOT limited to high school valedictorians and other high-achieving college students who were brought to the U.S. illegally when they were toddlers.

The amnesty includes illegal aliens up to age 35!

And their arrival can be as late as age 15!

The bill is a giant fraud loophole. People can claim the amnesty without providing proof of meeting criteria.

Even the supporters of the DREAM amnesty admit that around 2.1 million people could qualify.

No. 2: DREAM does nothing to stop the behavior that put teenagers into their situation. It leaves the jobs magnet in place.

This amnesty has no enforcement measures at all. It allows employers to continue to hire illegal aliens, enticing millions more parents to bring their children here illegally and stay long enough for them to become high school students and demand another amnesty in a few years.

No. 3: DREAM leaves intact the chain migration system that will allow these 2.1 million illegal aliens to eventually send for millions more relatives.

Rather quickly, the amnestied illegal aliens would be able to get green cards for their parents. And millions of additional relatives would be able to start planning their applications and getting in line. This starts with adult siblings and moves on to aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.

A large percentage of the illegal aliens in the U.S. today are extended family members of the illegal aliens who got amnesty in 1986 and also those in the six more-limited amnesties in the 1990s.

The Missing Unemployment Statistics

An interesting article from www.ucg.org/commentary about unemployment. This follows this previous post about career development. For more interesting stories like this click here to follow this blog.

The Missing Unemployment Statistics
A commentary by Melvin Rhodes

According to the Lansing State Journal (8/23), Michigan's hard hit economy is looking better. Unemployment has dropped from 15.2% to below 15%, the paper has twice reported.

I might feel a lot better if I could take this at face value. Unfortunately, the hard figures reveal a different story!

Unemployment is under reported
My son works for the state's department of unemployment, sometimes cynically described as "the fastest growing sector of the Michigan economy."

The reason unemployment figures are looking better, he explained, is because increasing numbers of people are coming off unemployment benefits.

Here is how it works.

Unemployed workers receive benefits for only a limited number of weeks. With extensions, people may now receive benefits for over a year but eventually they run out. That is now happening to more and more people.

My son also explained to me that 99,000 people in Michigan will have received all of their available state unemployment benefits by the end of this year. That means they could become destitute, with no income, no health insurance and unable to pay their mortgages—which indicates more foreclosures are to come!

Other unreported factors
That's not the only reason the unemployment numbers look better. People who move out of state are no longer counted as "unemployed." Nor are people who retire. Nor are the tens of thousands who have returned to their native countries. Nor are those who are in part time work, some earning as little as $50 per week. Nor are those who have had their hours and pay cut.

"CNN Newsroom" (Sunday August 23rd) predicted that 650,000 people across the United States will lose their unemployment benefits by the end of this year. This includes the 99,000 in Michigan. The prediction is that 4.4 million Americans will lose theirs before the economy recovers. That's 4.4 million people with no means of feeding themselves, short of lining up at the local soup kitchen.

It's not a pretty picture, no matter how you look at it. Things are clearly not getting any better.

One economist, not alone in his concern, wrote an op-ed in the Financial Times August 25th on the increasing likelihood of a double dip recession similar to the Great Depression. Following the Crash of 1929 the economy actually started to pick up, with the Stock Market making gains for five months in a row. Then the sixth month came and the rest is history.

Some are saying the same is likely now. The 'D' word is increasingly mentioned.
Talk of "Depression" is enough to make anyone depressed, on a personal level.

The economic upheavals that frequently plague our economies won't end until Christ returns and establishes a godly financial system. So, what should a Christian who trusts God and believes His written Word do in times like this?

The appropriate response!
The Bible clearly instructs each of us to "seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33).

In addition to praying each day "Thy kingdom come" (Matthew 6:10, King James Version), Christians should also remember to ask: "Give us this day our daily bread" (verse 11). Previous generations had to do this—often in times more challenging than now.

In the western world we've taken far too much for granted and have consistently failed to thank our Creator for all the physical blessings He has given to us. Faced with losing everything, this is a good time to start thanking God every day for all that He has given us.

Maybe for a while government can help if you lose your job, but that help won't last. Besides, the government is rapidly going broke. The U.S. deficit is so great that the BBC said a new word will soon be needed to describe it (BBC World News, PBS, 25th August).

Christians should not take anxious thought for tomorrow (Matthew 6:34). Worry never helps. Do what you can to help yourself and ask God each day to help you provide for your family needs.

How long this recession (or depression) will last cannot be accurately predicted. One thing is certain. We must all accept a lower standard of living, going without some of the pleasures we once took for granted. However, we can take assurance from King David who observed: "I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread" (Psalm 37:25).

As we go through this difficult time, let's all remember to pray more fervently, "Thy kingdom come." And for a really in depth understanding of what that Kingdom will be like, please request, read online or download our free booklet, The Gospel of the Kingdom.

We Need Your Help as NRSC Refuses To Back Their Own Nominee in U.S. Senate Race

On Tuesday night, Conservative Republican Christine O'Donnell won the nomination for U.S. Senate fair and square in the Republican Primary.

The problem? While in the middle of her victory speech, representatives of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) said they would refuse to support O'Donnell in the General Election because their favored candidate, Liberal RINO Mike Castle, did not win.

This is absurd and unacceptable. Please help us deliver a powerful message to the NRSC that we will not stand for this, and we expect them to abide by the wishes of Delaware Republicans who voted for Christine O'Donnell as their nominee for U.S. Senate.
