Could the Dollar Fall? What the Federal Reserve is doing!

An interesting article from http://www.ucg.org/ about the Federal Reserve and the U.S. dollar. This follows this post about Jesus Christ and Christmas. For a free magazine subscription or to get the books recommended for free click HERE! or call 1-888-886- 8632.

Several recent headlines in London's Financial Times illustrate a continuing thought among world financial leaders. The first headline said, “Brazil and China Eye Plan to Axe Dollar.” “China Attacks Dollar's Dominance” read another. A third spoke of “De-Dollarization and the Ending of America's Financial-Military Hegemony.” Another spotlighted the lack of confidence in American financial leadership: “Dollar Falls as Geithner [the U.S. Treasury Secretary] Hails Recovery Hopes.”
Warning shots are being fired across America's bow. Many want an end to the era of the dollar as the world's reserve currency. If that happens, your financial world will be forever altered.

Could this happen?

The United States is now the world's largest debtor nation ($10.6 trillion). And China owns more of that debt than any other nation—more than $800 billion. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has publicly expressed “worries” over China's significant holdings of U.S. government bonds, which ties China to America's good times and its bad times.
China is concerned that the U.S. Treasury bills (T-bills) and bonds it holds will lose much of their worth if the dollar is devalued or the financial crisis does not turn around.
By calling for the creation of another reserve currency, China, Russia and other nations seek insurance for their economies against the problems generated when one country's economy goes bad. They also seek to end American dominance over the world economy. America's decline and China's rise fit their geopolitical ambitions.
Ending the dollar's role in the world economy is not an easy matter. The Wall Street Journal stated: “The technical and political hurdles to implementing China's recommendation [to create a new standard world currency to replace the dollar] are enormous, so even if backed by other nations, the proposal is unlikely to change the dollar's role in the short term.
“Central banks around the world hold more U.S. dollars and dollar securities than they do assets denominated in any other individual foreign currency. Such reserves can be used to stabilize the value of the central banks' domestic currencies” (“China Takes Aim at Dollar,” March 24, 2009).

Will the dollar's reign soon end?

Before the dollar, the British pound sterling formed the underpinning of the global economy. It took two world wars and several decades for the world standard to shift from the pound to the dollar. Since the end of World War II, the dollar has been king.
Although the current financial problems ignited in America have led to a global meltdown, it will take more than what we've experienced so far to topple America from its current role. That is not to say this could not or will not happen.
Creating another world currency requires several factors to be in place. Research analysts at the private intelligence agency Stratfor outlined what those factors would be:
“As to a world beyond the dollar, the issue is that a reserve currency is not decided upon; it creates itself. Two things are needed to create a reserve currency. First, there must be sufficient liquidity to support a global system. That requires a central bank with an enormous amount of autonomy from a state government, and the U.S. Federal Reserve is unparalleled on this count. Not even the European Central Bank can compete.
“Second, the economy upon which the currency is based must be large enough to withstand fluctuations caused by other economies buying and selling its assets in massive amounts. Again, the United States is the only economy that potentially could qualify.
“Part and parcel of any replacement of the U.S. dollar would be a large-scale abandonment of U.S. T-bills as the core of Chinese currency reserves, which—as the conventional wisdom holds—would force intractable economic problems upon the United States. But a closer look reveals that this is not the case.
“First, selling U.S. T-bills en masse simply is not possible. Every seller requires a buyer, and the volumes at hand cannot be exchanged quickly. Second, starting down that road would cause the value of the securities in question to plummet, destroying the savings the Chinese have been building up for years. The so-called 'nuclear option' really is not an option at all” (“China's Calculated Currency Rhetoric,” March 25, 2009).
China has its own problems. The huge middle class created by their recent boom is beginning to experience layoffs and financial setbacks. The ruling Communist Party cannot afford discontent from this segment of its society. Once people have tasted materialism, they won't go back. For now it's in China's interest to blame a foreign power (America). It deflects attention from the home front.
Yet clearly, China is playing a very dangerous geopolitical game with calls for a new reserve currency.

What would it mean for Americans?

Since the end of World War II, the dollar has been the dominant world currency. For most living Americans, this is the world into which they were born. This is all they have known. Americans enjoy one of the world's highest living standards due to the stability and wealth created by America's dominant economic role.
So what would it mean for the American consumer if the dollar were no longer the world's reserve currency?
Everything Americans import would cost more— everything. Americans would have to buy the new currency in order to trade in world markets. Last year's $4-per-gallon gasoline would quickly look like a bargain.
The credit market would collapse. Investors would flee toxic assets, further locking up the economy.
The U.S. Federal Reserve would print more money to combat the credit squeeze, with the likely result being hyperinflation, meaning higher prices for available goods. Remember the stories of Weimar Germany after World War I when it took a wheelbarrow full of money to buy a loaf of bread? Not pretty.
American power and influence in the world would seriously decline. Little understood today is the role of the economy in shaping and controlling world events. The dollar's place in the world adds incalculable weight to American influence. With the dollar diminished, that influence would be reduced substantially. Russia and China are waiting for their turn to assume that power, but they would certainly meet with competition from the European Union.
Big losers from the fall of the dollar would include Japan and Latin America. Because they hold much of America's debt, China and the oil-rich Persian Gulf states would also see huge losses. Israel and Egypt would suffer as well because of massive amounts of American aid they would lose. What this would mean to the Middle East calculus is unknown, but Egypt could be destabilized as a result.
World politics would be altered. The vacuum of power created would be contested. The EU, which stands to gain from the fall of the dollar, would be among the chief contenders. China would no doubt make a play as well, but a number of factors would hinder its bid. Stability would arise from the potential period of chaos with another power becoming the global economy's main engine. America's time in the sun would be over.
American lifestyles would change radically. The end of cheap oil, low interest rates and deficit spending would mean a lower quality of life and higher taxes. What this would mean to the social fabric of the nation is unknown. But Americans' way of life would dramatically change.
This last point speaks to the character of the American people. Do they have the same qualities that helped a prior generation survive the upheaval of a Great Depression and World War II?

America losing the pride of her power?

Those pushing to create a different world are no doubt working hard to bring about the demise of the dollar and the end of America's dominant role in the world. In The Good News we have spoken before of America's prophesied loss of “the pride of [its] power” (Leviticus 26:19). While military might is what we think of first in this regard, economic factors are also important here. The dollar losing its reserve currency status would radically change America's leading role in the world.
For one, America's crippling foreign debt would get worse with decreased ability to finance the burden. In time the country would be at the mercy of those holding its obligations, with little room to maneuver. Economic enslavement to other nations would be on the horizon.
However, it's unlikely that this will happen immediately. China and several Arab states hold too many dollar-denominated instruments to see this change. As mentioned, they would lose too much. Right now the United States is too big, too rich and too powerful for them to allow it to fail. There is too much at stake on the global scene.
That does not mean things couldn't change—and change quickly—but the proper circumstances have to be in place.
It will not happen until the God of heaven allows it to happen. God has blessed America with its wealth, power and resulting prestige. He will move to change that when it fits His timing for His great plan for all the nations.
Until then we have days to live and many lives to touch. We have character to develop and mistakes to correct. We have days to love those close to us and, above all, time to discover God and His attention to the details of eternity, history and our lives. Make the most of the time while you can. GN

Black Lives Matter? 35% of Aborted Babies are Black Even Though Blacks are 13% of the Population

An interesting story from www.lifenews.com about Black abortions. This follows this post about Senate appointment procedures. This follows this post about Planned Parenthood's current plans. For two very interesting books click HERE.
Please follow me here.

As LifeNews.com reported last week, a new Centers for Disease Control report shows good news across the country as abortions and abortion rates continue to drop to historic levels.
The CDC released its 2013 abortion surveillance report on Wednesday, showing a 5 percent drop in abortions from 2012 and a 20 percent drop since 2004. The CDC data, which is incomplete because the government does not require states to report abortion numbers, reported 664,435 abortions in 47 states in 2013. The abortion rate was 12.5 abortions per 1,000 women ages 15-44.
In comparison to 2012, the new data indicates that about 34,500 fewer babies lost their lives to abortion in 2013.
But the good news does not extend to the African-American Community. That’s because the percentage of abortions done on black babies continues to be at alarming levels. The new CDC report makes it clear that even though black Americans constitute just 13% of the US population 35% of the babies killed in abortions are black babies.
CNS News has more on the shocking percentages from the latest CDC report:
Although black Americans make up 13.3% of the U.S. population, they comprised 35% of the total abortions “reported” – 128,682 babies killed — in 2013, according to the latest Abortion Surveillance report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
That number, 128,682 black abortions, comes from only 29 reporting areas, according to the CDC. It does not include black abortions from the following states: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
According to the CDC, there were 664,435 abortions total – white, black, Hispanic, other — reported in 2013 from 49 reporting areas. But that number does not include abortions from California, Maryland and New Hampshire.
Keep up with the latest pro-life news and information on Twitter.
For those abortions known by race, in addition to the 128,682 black babies killed, there were 134,814 white babies, or 37.3% of the total reporting. Whites make up 77.1% of the population, according to the Census Bureau.
For Hispanics, who comprise 17.6% of the U.S. population, there were 68,761 abortions reported, which was 19% of the total.
The Associated Press reports the CDC has not recorded a lower abortion rate since 1971, two years before the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Roe v. Wade and its companion case Doe v. Bolton, which allowed for legalized abortion on demand through all nine months of pregnancy. In 1971, several states had legalized abortion; but it was not legal throughout the U.S.
Abortion rates have been dropping steadily in the past several years as pro-lifers worked to pass a historic number of pro-life laws in states across the country. Pregnancy resource centers and sidewalk counselors also have been playing an integral role, offering pregnant and parenting families resources and information to empower them to choose life for their unborn babies.

Editorial: Where Do We Need to tell Trump to Focus?

Editorial

Donald Trump won an electoral college mandate particularly on the issues of immigration enforcement and fairness in trade deals. There were additional issues such as gun rights and pro-life issues.

Immigration was particularly important because if the U.S. keeps bringing in people that will vote for the Democratic party, and for that party's stance on issues, then the Republican party and its platform would become extinct.

Donald Trump needs to focus on entrenching his win,( http://www.vdare.com/articles/i-was-right-that-trump-could-win-and-he-could-do-even-better-in-2020) and part of that strategy means increasing his percentage among the working class in the Rust Belt EVEN MORE!!

In addition, Donald Trump's immediate legislative resistance is likely to be in the Senate due to the filibuster. He needs to tell Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to eliminate it so that his mandate is not thwarted. http://www.dickmorris.com/trumps-first-task-outlaw-filibuster-dick-morris-tv-lunch-alert/

After the focus on these steps, judicial entrenchment, by Supreme Court and all federal Court appointees, can keep his mandate permanent as he signs all the bills for his promises into law!

Note Acts 2:44-45 Acts 2:44-4544 And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
American King James Version×
: “Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.”
But this was a unique situation that didn't last very long. We later see that elderly widows were to be financially provided for by a common church fund only if they had no family members in the Church who could privately support them (1 Timothy 5:3-16 1 Timothy 5:3-163 Honor widows that are widows indeed. 4 But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to show piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God. 5 Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusts in God, and continues in supplications and prayers night and day. 6 But she that lives in pleasure is dead while she lives. 7 And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless. 8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. 9 Let not a widow be taken into the number under three score years old, having been the wife of one man. 10 Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work. 11 But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry; 12 Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith. 13 And with they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not. 14 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully. 15 For some are already turned aside after Satan. 16 If any man or woman that believes have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.
American King James Version×
). Obviously, all members of the Church's congregations at this later time were not being provided for out of a common fund—only a select number in real need.
In considering Acts 2, we should note that Christians were being persecuted. Also, thousands of new believers, some from distant lands, had just been added to the Church at the Feast of Pentecost in Jerusalem.
No doubt many decided to remain in Judea at that time to learn more about their new faith and rely on one another through growing persecution rather than return to their homes far away. These people thus had an immediate need for food and lodging, and a voluntary pooling of resources took care of that.
The believers at the time felt extremely blessed, grateful, hospitable and generous. Many who had extra assets sold some of them to help finance the living expenses of others. The expression “all things in common” means this: “I love you, and therefore your needs are just as important to me as my own needs. I consider all that I have as being yours also.”
However, keep in mind that they could not sell what they did not own. They were voluntarily selling some of their privately owned property so they could help others. This was charity, not communism. No one was compelled to sell his property, nor did anyone confiscate one's property or income to give it to others, as many governments do today.
Acts 4:32-35 Acts 4:32-3532 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. 33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was on them all. 34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, 35 And laid them down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made to every man according as he had need.
American King James Version×
, which follows shortly after in time order, shows that the pooling of resources was still going on. The account of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5:1-11 Acts 5:1-111 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4 Whiles it remained, was it not your own? and after it was sold, was it not in your own power? why have you conceived this thing in your heart? you have not lied to men, but to God. 5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. 6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him. 7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. 8 And Peter answered to her, Tell me whether you sold the land for so much? And she said, Yes, for so much. 9 Then Peter said to her, How is it that you have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried your husband are at the door, and shall carry you out. 10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband. 11 And great fear came on all the church, and on as many as heard these things.
American King James Version×
adds further clarity. God did not execute judgment on these two for their refusing to share, but for their telling a lie to make themselves look good.
The apostle Peter asked Ananias, “While it [their possession] remained [unsold], was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control?” The couple was not obligated either to sell their land or to give away the proceeds. Again, this was not communism or socialism.
The words of Jesus Himself should make it even clearer. In His parables of the workers in the vineyard in Matthew 20, He portrayed God as a vineyard owner paying different employees the same agreed-on amount even if they worked for less time.
The employees who worked longer thought it unfair. But the owner, representing God, replies to one: “Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? Take what is yours and go your way. I wish to give to this last man the same as to you. Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things?” (verses 13-15).
To the final question here, communists and socialists, and those with such leanings, would answer no —since in those systems the community or state decides. Jesus' statement, while figurative of spiritual principles, is nevertheless a ringing endorsement of both private ownership and free market exchange without wage control. He was certainly no communist—and neither were His followers.

Video of BT Daily: Can Apple Make You Happy?

Can happiness be found in an electronic gadget?

Transcript

[Darris McNeely] So I’ve got my latest iPhone here. No, wait a minute. It’s not the latest iPhone. Just a few months after I bought this iPhone, the next one came out, and then another one. You know, the gadget game is one that when you get into, there’s always going to be something newer even after you’ve spent hundreds of dollars on what is, you think at that moment the latest. I was reading an article about Apple computer, and recently people have been complaining that Apple hasn’t come out with anything in recent years, or recent months that’s new and a whole game changer when it comes to electronics. And the article is saying it’s as if people want Apple to unveil a happiness device, and otherwise they won’t be happy until it does, which raised the question do things make us happy?
[Steve Myers] There’s always the latest, the greatest, the next thing. Same thing with computers, whatever it may be. Buy one and it seems the day you walk out of the store it’s already obsolete. The next one is coming. And so if that’s what makes us happy, then there’s always something else just beyond our reach that we can never quite get to.
[Darris McNeely] I’ll be the first to admit, I’m a gadget freak and I do like new gadgets. And I am sold on Apple and I usually buy, try to buy the latest that I can or keep up fairly current with their products. But it’s also caused me over the years to step back and realize, hey, these things don’t really make me completely happy. I enjoy them and they make life very convenient in many ways, but happiness deep down, that’s another issue.
[Steve Myers] Absolutely, and Jesus Christ Himself taught that very things. Now He didn’t mention iPhones, but over in Luke 12:23 He said, “Life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.” And you could substitute iPhones or computers or gadgets or videogames or whatever it might be. Those things do not make life happier. We can get some enjoyment out of them, that sort of thing. But if we’re counting on them to make us happy, Christ says we’ve got our priorities out of line.
[Darris McNeely] A good way to look at what Christ said in this statement is to ask yourself the question, how many things do you need to be happy? That’s probably the most important question to answer, and then you will know what and where true happiness comes from.
[Steve Myers] Absolutely. In fact He concludes, “Seek the Kingdom of God.” Seek the Kingdom of God because that’s really where the true happiness lies - in a spiritual relationship with God.

Current Events & Trends: China's worrying military ambitions

An interesting article from http://www.ucg.org/ about China's military and trade. This follows this post about America's demographics. This follows this post about the Lost 10 Tribes.  This follows this post about Zika. For a free magazine subscription or to get the books recommended for free click HERE! or call 1-888-886- 8632.

A major feature article in The Sunday Times of London showed that, as its drophead states, “the test of a new missile is heightening concerns over Beijing's arms build-up” (“China's Carrier Killer Unnerves US Navy,” March 24, 2013). The article continues, “China has successfully tested a 'carrier killer' missile designed to change the military balance of power in Asia by deterring American aircraft carrier operations up to 1,250 miles from Chinese shores.”
Clearly the Chinese military has its aggressive generals. China's Liberation Army Daily opts for an end to “romantic pacifism” and urges “full preparation” for war. A headline in The Wall Street Journal reads, “For Xi, a 'China Dream' of Global Military Power” (Jeremy Page, March 14). The article that follows presents new Communist Party and military chief Xi Jinping as appearing to embrace the hawkish worldview of the nation's generals.
Are we going to see a new, updated version of World War II's old Axis Powers, with China in the role of principal Asian foe rather than an “Americanized” Japan? In World War II the Japanese army invaded China. Will the reverse occur in the future? Time will tell.
Isn't it troubling that the Republic of China holds so many billions of American dollars in its own treasury? Why is America being challenged on so many fronts today—military, economic and otherwise? What is America doing wrong? The answer, as revealed in the Bible, is clearly revealed in the Bible study aid The United States and Britain in Bible Prophecy . Editorial: The Clinton Foundation - Crimes and Corruption

Editorial

In the Must Read book "Clinton Cash" by Peter Schweizer, the Clinton Foundation and other crimes by the Clinton family are alleged to have happened and this should be a PLAYBOOK, for the House and Senate when they come back from their summer recess, as well as by Donald Trump in his campaigning.

The Clinton Foundation is only one of many items that need to be investigated. Others include the TRUTH about Benghazi, the Iran deal, arming the Chinese, selling uranium to Russia, as well as a whole host of other charges.

In Brief... World News Review Should Biggest Debtor Nation Be Worried?

An interesting article from http://www.ucg.org/ about the deficit. This follows this post about spirituality. This follows this post about crime. For a free magazine subscription or to get the books recommended for free click HERE! or call 1-888-886- 8632.

“If the United States was a small or less-developed country, financial alarm bells would already be ringing. The U.S. current account deficit is well above the 5%-of-GDP standard the IMF and others use to pronounce economies in the developing world vulnerable to financial crisis” (John Miller, Dollars and Sense, January/February 2005). For the first three quarters of 2006, the current account deficit totaled $655.9 billion, putting it on track to reach $874.5 billion for the entire year. The current account deficit “essentially measures the nation’s debt with the rest of the world, which must be financed by loans from abroad or asset sales to foreigners. “Some economists are worried that foreign investors will lose their appetite for US assets, causing the dollar to fall sharply and forcing interest rates higher to attract the needed investment” (“US Q3 Current Account Deficit Grows to 225.6 bln usd, Equals 6.8 pct of GDP,” Forbes.com, Dec. 18, 2006). Not only is the United States the biggest debtor nation in the world, now “foreigners hold more than 50% of our debt, which makes them majority owners,” says Todd Harrison (MarketWatch.com, Dec. 20, 2006). The United States has been the largest economy in the world, and the U.S. dollar has served as the world’s reserve currency for decades, since the British currency lost that advantage after World War II. Britain had gone from the world’s biggest creditor in 1913 to become a net debtor after two costly world wars. With the United States now as the biggest debtor, can its dollar still continue to be in demand? Will other nations keep accepting the flood of dollars and buying the billions in American treasury bonds necessary to keep it afloat? The Bible warns, “The borrower is servant to the lender” (Proverbs 22:7). And in a prophecy of the results of not obeying God, the Bible says that the foreigner “shall lend to you, but you shall not lend to him” (Deuteronomy 28:44). The handwriting is on the wall.

Discerning Our Times-Trade Deficits

An interesting article from http://www.ucg.org/ about trade deficits. This follows this post about memorials for police. This follows this post about Turkey's leader, Erdogan. For a free magazine subscription or to get the books recommended for free click HERE! or call 1-888-886- 8632.

As summer approaches it is time to take stock of some critical issues facing America and the world at this time. Christ warned His generation to discern the times and look around at what was happening in their world. Our world today is filled with several critical issues and it is vital that you discern what is happening and what lies ahead. This series will focus on Biblical principles and prophecies coming to pass today.
There are several economic issues facing America right now. In this post I’d like to focus on the trade deficit we have with other nations.
We have reported on this blog the views of financial guru Warren Buffet. Mr Buffet is the Chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, an investment fund company. Mr. Buffet sees a big problem with America’s trade deficit. America has a trade deficit of 6 percent of gross domestic product and has gone on for 29 consecutive years. Buffet said in his annual report to shareholders that we are in danger of becoming a “share cropper nation”. Here are additional comments from a recent interview :
“Everyone says that what is going on can’t go on forever. We had, you know, $618 billion trade deficit last year, and it’s already grown a little bit this year. The standard line is, it can’t go on forever, but no one seems to give an answer of what is going to be done about it. We exported $1.1 trillion last year, and we imported over $1.7 trillion. We are running up obligations to the rest of the word, and they are buying our assets at the rate of almost $2 billion a day. And that will have consequences. We have a lot of assets to trade, and people will take our IOUs. Right now our net position versus the rest of the world is they own $3 trillion more of us than we own of them, and that number grows every day, and at some point economists talk about a soft landing. Maybe there will be a soft landing, but you know, who knows”?
Buffet is both alarmist about the current problem yet optimistic that it can be solved. But people do not want to deal with it, and most discussions result in a benign neglect, people are just not interested. There is more talk about the likely 100 billion annual deficit of Social Security in the next twenty years, yet today we have annual budget deficit of $400 billion dollars. It is hard to get discussion on this massive deficit.
Returning to the trade deficit Buffet shows what would happen if it continues on the present course
“Well, if we keep doing what we’re doing — and we have shown no signs of slowing down—the world will own a substantially greater percentage of this country or have our IOUs in the form of government bonds 10 years from now than now,and the cost of servicing the debt or the cost of paying dividends on the ownership will mean that we will send abroad a few percent of our GDP every year just to service debts that arose from the over-consumption that has taken place currently. So, our sons will pay for the sins of their fathers, to a degree. Now, we’ll always have a rich country. This is the best country in the world”.
Did you note that, “our sons will pay for the sins of their fathers…” That is Biblical language for not living righteously today, putting off the day of judgment on the next generation. That reluctance is another type of fiscal and moral problem. Whether or not we’ll “always be a rich country” is uncertain. If these trends continue it is hard to imagine how we could maintain the high standard of living we have.
Buffet’s solution to the trade deficit is an import certificate that is broad based and does not target specific countries or goods. It may not sound exactly like a trade tariff but who is to say how other nations would react if their goods were to be taxed or singled out for extra import duty. Tariffs of any kind can lead to a trade war which can upset the present world order.
Today the United States imposed limits on clothing imports from China. The Wall Street Journal reported:
The Bush administration said Wednesday it will impose new limits on imports of clothing from China. The action follows complaints that a surge of Chinese apparel to the U.S. was hurting American firms.
The administration will restrict a number of items that China can ship to the U.S.: men’s and boys cotton and man-made fiber shirts, man-made fiber trousers, man-made fiber knit shirts and blouses and combed cotton yarn”. (Wall Street Journal, May 19, 2005)
This follows quotas imposed last week on other clothing items. The American textile industry has been deviated by cheaper imported clothing from China and other nations. This move, belatedly, attempts to address this problem.
Leviticus 26:17 says “you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it”. We could yet see a time when our economic prosperity would be eclipsed by those who wish us ill.
When a family spends more than it takes in and has to service a large debt with high interest payments it inevitably declares bankruptcy. When a nation lives the same way it can put off the day of reckoning for a longer time but there will be a price to pay. There will be a day of judgment.
There is no question that America is the strongest economy in the world and is the main engine of the global economy. But there is more than just economic statistics and figures in understanding our global dominance. Our “exceptionalism” is due to more than physical factors. We sit upon the high places of the world by the grace and blessing of the God of Abraham. That God made key promises of national greatness that have been fulfilled in the national greatness of the United States and Great Britain. You can read the story in our booklet The United States and Britain in Bible Prophecy  .
