Note Acts 2:44-45 Acts 2:44-4544 And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
American King James Version×
: “Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.”
But this was a unique situation that didn't last very long. We later see that elderly widows were to be financially provided for by a common church fund only if they had no family members in the Church who could privately support them (1 Timothy 5:3-16 1 Timothy 5:3-163 Honor widows that are widows indeed. 4 But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to show piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God. 5 Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusts in God, and continues in supplications and prayers night and day. 6 But she that lives in pleasure is dead while she lives. 7 And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless. 8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. 9 Let not a widow be taken into the number under three score years old, having been the wife of one man. 10 Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work. 11 But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry; 12 Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith. 13 And with they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not. 14 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully. 15 For some are already turned aside after Satan. 16 If any man or woman that believes have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.
American King James Version×
). Obviously, all members of the Church's congregations at this later time were not being provided for out of a common fund—only a select number in real need.
In considering Acts 2, we should note that Christians were being persecuted. Also, thousands of new believers, some from distant lands, had just been added to the Church at the Feast of Pentecost in Jerusalem.
No doubt many decided to remain in Judea at that time to learn more about their new faith and rely on one another through growing persecution rather than return to their homes far away. These people thus had an immediate need for food and lodging, and a voluntary pooling of resources took care of that.
The believers at the time felt extremely blessed, grateful, hospitable and generous. Many who had extra assets sold some of them to help finance the living expenses of others. The expression “all things in common” means this: “I love you, and therefore your needs are just as important to me as my own needs. I consider all that I have as being yours also.”
However, keep in mind that they could not sell what they did not own. They were voluntarily selling some of their privately owned property so they could help others. This was charity, not communism. No one was compelled to sell his property, nor did anyone confiscate one's property or income to give it to others, as many governments do today.
Acts 4:32-35 Acts 4:32-3532 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. 33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was on them all. 34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, 35 And laid them down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made to every man according as he had need.
American King James Version×
, which follows shortly after in time order, shows that the pooling of resources was still going on. The account of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5:1-11 Acts 5:1-111 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4 Whiles it remained, was it not your own? and after it was sold, was it not in your own power? why have you conceived this thing in your heart? you have not lied to men, but to God. 5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. 6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him. 7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. 8 And Peter answered to her, Tell me whether you sold the land for so much? And she said, Yes, for so much. 9 Then Peter said to her, How is it that you have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried your husband are at the door, and shall carry you out. 10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband. 11 And great fear came on all the church, and on as many as heard these things.
American King James Version×
adds further clarity. God did not execute judgment on these two for their refusing to share, but for their telling a lie to make themselves look good.
The apostle Peter asked Ananias, “While it [their possession] remained [unsold], was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control?” The couple was not obligated either to sell their land or to give away the proceeds. Again, this was not communism or socialism.
The words of Jesus Himself should make it even clearer. In His parables of the workers in the vineyard in Matthew 20, He portrayed God as a vineyard owner paying different employees the same agreed-on amount even if they worked for less time.
The employees who worked longer thought it unfair. But the owner, representing God, replies to one: “Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? Take what is yours and go your way. I wish to give to this last man the same as to you. Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things?” (verses 13-15).
To the final question here, communists and socialists, and those with such leanings, would answer no —since in those systems the community or state decides. Jesus' statement, while figurative of spiritual principles, is nevertheless a ringing endorsement of both private ownership and free market exchange without wage control. He was certainly no communist—and neither were His followers.

CIS: Immigrant Households Cost Taxpayers 41% More in Welfare Benefits

CIS: Immigrant Households Cost Taxpayers 41% More in Welfare Benefits

https://www.numbersusa.com/sendfax

The Center for Immigration Studies released a new study showing that households headed by an immigrant uses on average around $6,234 in welfare benefits, a 41% increase compared to households headed by a native. The study used information from the Census Bureau’s 2012 Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP), which is a survey used by the government that provides the most accurate picture of welfare utilization.
CIS’s Executive Director, Mark Krikorian, explained that, “Immigrants are such heavy users of welfare not because they don’t work, but because, on average, they have little education and thus earn low wages. If we continue to permit large numbers of less-educated people to move here from abroad, we have to accept that there will be huge and ongoing costs to taxpayers.”
The CIS study also found that:
  • The average immigrant household (legal or illegal) consumes 33% more in cash welfare, 57% more in food assistance, and 44% more in Medicaid dollars than native households.
  • Illegal immigrant households cost an average of $5,692 (collected largely on behalf of their U.S.- born children) while legal immigrant households cost taxpayers around $6,378 per year.

Finding Work In A Tough Economy Real-Life Examples

An interesting article from http://www.ucg.org/ about job hunting. This follows this post about unemployment. This follows this post about former Muslims in America. This follows this post about the Pope and immigration. For a free magazine subscription or to get the books recommended for free click HERE! or call 1-888-886- 8632.

Steve had lived the typical American life. He grew up in a middle-class family, worked his way through college, earned a bachelor's degree in communications, later married and started a family. But this idyllic life began to crumble when Steve found himself out of work with three little ones to provide for at home. He just couldn't find a job opening for someone with the degree he had worked so hard to complete.
Sound familiar? With the unemployment rate near 10 percent in the United States and even worse elsewhere, Steve could easily be one of today's unemployment statistics. But he's not. He faced his job crisis in the early 1990s, not 2011.
The example of Steve and others reveal tried and true principles for finding a job even in difficult times.

Steve's secret: creative flexibility

Steve did something very important. He changed to fit the job market rather than expecting it to change to fit him.
Like Steve, many of us will have to adapt to the changing economy. Specialized training or a degree does not guarantee a job. Technology makes some jobs obsolete, jobs move overseas, or unexpected shifts in the economy can disrupt local employment. Those who learn new skills or adapt the ones they have will find ways to succeed.

Steve's saga: working hard

Steve took a job with a local janitorial service cleaning buildings after hours. This work experience led him to apply for a job in the housekeeping department of a local hospital. He worked there for many months, cleaning patient rooms and emptying trash cans until an opening came up for a supervisor's position in the sterile supply department. Steve was promoted, and his new duties involved the sterilizing of surgical equipment and preparing the surgical trays for the operating rooms.
A few months later, the director of sterile supply resigned, and while the hospital looked for a new director, Steve asked that he be considered for the job (even though he did not have the exact qualifications). The hospital agreed, and Steve was named the interim director of sterile supply. His new duties included supervising 70 people and balancing the department's large budget. As a result of his persistence and hard work ethic, the hospital appointed Steve as the new director of sterile supply, a job he held for several years until a new opportunity came along with another company.
Steve now travels around the country using his communications degree skills in training people to use new software programs. It wasn't that Steve was a genius or more qualified that earned him a better job. Rather it was his willingness to take a job that was not his “ideal” and give it 100 percent for the good of the company.

Positive attitude and work ethic

This attitude or approach in life really paid off for Steve, and it can for you too!
While it's still very important to get an education and training, the attitude in wielding the skills you learn is equally important. One of the great kings of ancient Israel, Solomon, wrote, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might” (Ecclesiastes 9:10).
Whether you're working in your dream job or serving tables while you wait for that job, you must give your best effort—because you never know what bigger and better opportunities may be just ahead.
In today's changing market, avoid limiting your job opportunities by having too narrow a focus. Think about how your interest might link to career opportunities you haven't considered. For example, many who trained as artists a generation ago now use their talent for graphics on video games. Or there's the stay-at-home mom who invented the decorative clips for croc shoes to decorate her child's shoes and then sold the “idea” for a million dollars.

Chet's secret: quick thinking

Be prepared to take unexpected opportunities when they come up.
Chet was my husband's grandfather, who lived through the Great Depression of the 1930s. The southeastern Ohio coal mine Chet worked in had shut down, and he moved to the state capital in Columbus to seek work. Depression-era unemployment rates make today's look mild.
While pounding the pavement one day to find a job, Chet was passing a factory building when he noticed smoke coming from the roof. He ran into the building to alert someone about the fire, which was swiftly extinguished. As a result, the owners of the factory were so thankful for Chet's quick thinking that they offered him a job on the spot, and he worked there for three decades until his retirement.

Success in your future

While you may not have control over the fluctuating job market, God has given you the ability to control how you react to the market. Like Steve, you may have to take a job that's less than “ideal” until other opportunities arise. In any case, determine in your mind to be flexible and do your job with all your might. It will pay off in the long run. If it worked for two ordinary men like Steve and Chet, it can work for you too!

Illegal Aliens Received $750 Million in Obamacare Subsidies

An interesting article from www.numbersusa.com about subsidies that illegal immigrants received. This follows this post about Governor Chris Christie. Illegal Aliens Received $750 Million in Obamacare Subsidies

https://www.numbersusa.com/sendfax

A new Senate report found that around 500,000 illegal aliens received up to $750 million in Obamacare subsides as of June 2015 despite the law specifically excluding them from the subsidies.
The report was compiled by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and was based on a review launched by the committee Chairman, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.). The report said that, “the administration awarded approximately $750 million in tax credits on behalf of individuals who were later determined to be ineligible because they failed to verify their citizenship, status as a national, or legal presence.”
According to The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services spokesman, Aaron Albright, “lack of verification does not mean an individual is ineligible for financial assistance, but only that a Marketplace did not receive sufficient information to verify eligibility in the time period outlined in the law.”
The federal government still grants the subsidies on a “temporary basis” to those who cannot verify their citizenship in the time period allowed. Their credits are still paid in advance to the insurers. If the recipient is still unable to verify their immigration status, then funding and coverage is suspended and the IRS is supposed to receive overpayments back from the individuals that were wrongly covered.
The report criticized this “pay and chase” method and predicted that the IRS would be “unable to fully recoup the funds.”

If You’re Over 70 and Done With Life, Euthanasia Campaigners Want You to Kill Yourself

An interesting story from www.lifenews.com about euthanasia. This follows this post about pro-choice intolerance. For two very interesting books click HERE.
Please follow me here.

The Dutch Right to Die Society (NVVE), is now lobbying to have the law changed to allow persons reaching the age of 70 years of age who believe that their life is complete and who are tired of living to be given a lethal pill with which to kill themselves. The Society claims that this is already happening and the law needs to be changed to prevent abuse.

Right to Life challenges the Voluntary Euthanasia Society New Zealand to admit that they support giving a suicide pill to all 70 year olds in New Zealand who are tired of living.
It is always morally wrong to take life. This proposal is an attack on the sanctity of life and the intrinsic dignity of every human being. It is a denial of our stewardship of the precious life that our Creator has entrusted to us.
The advocates for a culture of death claim that suicide is a human right. This campaign exposes the sham that euthanasia is all about compassion and preventing people dying with intolerable suffering. It isn’t really about that all. What it is about is a misguided at best group of persons who seek an ever expanding set of criteria under which suicide is promoted as the  answer to adversity and life’s problems. Ultimately though, it will be all about removing lives considered not worthy of living.
Holland is in the powerful grip of a culture of death. It is expected that this campaign which commenced in the nineties will ultimately succeed, as the Royal Dutch Medical Society  strongly supports doctor assisted suicide and is currently  in consultation with the Dutch Right to Die Society on the implementation of this lethal proposal.
This new attack on life, conveys the message that some lives are of no further value to the community, that some people  have nothing to offer and that the state is prepared to provide you with a suicide pill so that you can kill yourself. When this right is established, it may ultimately become a duty to kill yourself on reaching the age of 70 as it is cheaper to get someone to kill themselves rather than to  provide the medical treatment that may be needed.
Once implemented why stop at 70? Would that not be discriminating against others who are tired of life such as disturbed teenagers or indeed any person? Recently the Dutch euthanasia advocate, Dr Rob Jonquiere, principle architect of the Dutch Assisted Suicide legislation was in New Zealand on a speaking tour sponsored by the Voluntary Euthanasia Society New Zealand. He was an advocate for giving a suicide pill to all 70 year old persons. Right to Life believes that because the VESNZ never distanced itself from this contentious proposal,  that they also support giving a lethal suicide pill to all 70 year olds.

Gates Foundation Will Sink Another $120 Million Into Promoting Abortion and Population Control

An interesting story from www.lifenews.com about Bill Gates promoting abortion. This follows this post about the governor's race in Kentucky. For two very interesting books click HERE.
Please follow me here.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is funneling more money into global programs promoting population control and abortion after a group warned that international family planning goals are not being met.

The Gates Foundation promised to give an additional $120 million to Family Planning 2020 programs that support “the rights of women and girls to decide when and how many children they want to have,” the news website All Africa reported today.
“The announcement came in response to a new report which found that the global community risks falling short of its goal to reach an additional 120 million women and girls with access to contraceptives and family planning services by 2020,” according to the report.
Both Planned Parenthood and Marie Stopes International, two of the largest abortion businesses in the world, are partners in the global Family Planning 2020 initiative, according to a press release from the initiative.
The abortion chain Marie Stopes International also sent out a tweet yesterday celebrating the Gates Foundation’s large donation.
The Gates Foundation has faced criticism in the past for giving money to programs that support abortion.
In 2014, after Melinda Gates claimed her foundation will not fund abortions, LiveAction reported that the foundation gave huge donations to several abortion businesses.
LifeNews.com reported at the time:
According to the Gates Foundation grant database, the Foundation gave Planned Parenthood of America, the International Planned Parenthood Federation, and Planned Parenthood of Western Washington about $71 million from before 2009 through 2013. Additionally, the Gates Foundation gave $46.1 million to Marie Stopes International in 2012 alone.
Much of this giving is focused on Africa, Asia, and Latin America, where abortion-providers like Planned Parenthood, Marie Stopes, and Ipas seek to overturn pro-life laws and sometimes even provide illicit abortion drugs.
CLICK LIKE IF YOU’RE PRO-LIFE!

While Gates Foundation funds cannot be earmarked for abortion, the fungibility of money makes it easier for these organizations to provide abortion internationally.  In other words, every dollar the Gates Foundation gives to Planned Parenthood for distributing birth control or building an abortion-friendly clinic frees up a dollar in Planned Parenthood’s budget to spend elsewhere.
In 2012, Melinda Gates was criticized for promoting abortion and population control at an international meeting.
The same year, she was criticized for hosting a Family Planning Summit in London with two of the biggest pro-abortion groups in the world, the UN Population Fund and International Planned Parenthood Federation.

Treasures of Thankfulness

Thursday of next week is Thanksgiving Day here in the U.S.A. Originally established to thank God for the blessings received in this country, yet as a nation we seem to have forgotten the meaning of Thanksgiving Day. Consequently it has morphed into the opening bell for the Christmas buying season. Retailers have been feeling the economic pinch in recent years, and so have become even more aggressive in luring potential customers into their stores on Thanksgiving or even before that day.
Some years ago I was interested in getting a new computer for my wife and decided that I would go out early on Black Friday hoping to get a great deal. I arrived at the computer store shortly before 5 a.m. and witnessed a mob of people already there. Literally, standing room only. The line for the checkout stretched half-way around the interior of the store. Needless to say, the computer bargain I was looking for was long gone. This scenario has not improved over the years. People now camp out in front of retail stores days before Thanksgiving so that they can be one of the first in the store on Black Friday.
Remembering my experience, some questions come to my mind:
- Are we as zealous for what God has given us? What does Christ tell us to set as our priority in Matthew 6:33? God wants us to desire His way actively, not passively – desiring what God desires should come first in our lives. Do we value the calling God has given to us now, more than all of those shoppers giving up their sleep on a day off from work in order to get the greatest bargains?
- If you had to purchase the truth of God, what would you be willing to pay? What if you had the treasure in your back yard to purchase such a truth and didn’t even know it? Read Matthew 13:44-46.
Do we value the truth God gives us that much? Are we deeply thankful for the calling God has given to us now – to be part of the firstfruits? Are we thankful to have the hope of His Kingdom – to know that there are solutions to the problems mankind has created in this world? Are we thankful to be called to serve, and be able to practice that in this lifetime and see the blessings that come from living God’s way of life?
- Perhaps on this Sabbath day, before the holiday of Thanksgiving you could make a personal list of what you are thankful for – both physical and spiritually – that God has given to you.
It’s easy to see what the world values during this time of year. Very few celebrate Thanksgiving with true thankfulness. Few are seeking something bigger than the latest gadget in their life. And few are willing to invest in changing themselves so that they can be part of changing the world for the better.
Having been called out of that world, we need to constantly remind ourselves what God has given us to value. Let us be thankful for the physical and spiritual blessings of God. And let’s remember to be thankful for the knowledge that our God is loving, merciful, patient, and giving.

Former Olympic athlete Bruce Jenner has recently been celebrated in the media for gender transition, with a name change to Caitlyn--helping to push the culture into greater acceptance of transgenderism. America has become increasingly liberal in its moral outlook in various ways, and now it seems a pivot point has been reached, with more people than ever embracing things that would have been unthinkable not long ago.
As pointed out in the New York Post: "Compared to just a few years ago, we have a completely different set of ideas about what constitutes acceptable behavior. As Caitlyn Jenner puts it in her new reality show, 'I'm the new normal'" (Kyle Smith, "A Massive, Silent Cultural Revolution Has Changed America," June 6, 2015).
Breitbart news noted that as a pushback, on June 3, 2015, "the Wall Street Journal's online edition promoted a June 2014 op-ed by Dr. Paul McHugh, former psychiatrist-in-chief at John Hopkins Hospital, which argues that transgender identity is a mental illness akin to bulimia and should not be treated with surgery, which can cause more harm than good" (Joel Pollak, "WSJ Promotes Op-Ed Claiming Transgender Identity is a Mental Disorder," June 3, 2015). Jenner, who's had feminizing hormone therapy and plastic surgery, has not had actual sex-change surgery but has not ruled it out either.
The Journal article by Dr. McHugh is well worth reading. He says that "this intensely felt sense of being transgendered constitutes a mental disorder in two respects. The first is that the idea of sex misalignment is simply mistaken--it does not correspond with physical reality. The second is that it can lead to grim psychological outcomes" ("Transgender Surgery Isn't the Solution," June 12, 2014).
He further explains it as an "assumption" disorder like "anorexia and bulimia nervosa, where the assumption that departs from physical reality is the belief by the dangerously thin that they are overweight." We should not support their delusion by condoning their efforts to lose more weight. Yet this is what is done for those who feel transgendered in providing them hormone treatment and surgery and demanding that they be recognized as the opposite sex and be allowed to use public restroom facilities of the gender they identify with.
Several state governments now bar psychiatric treatment to restore natural gender feelings to a transgender minor--even if parents give permission. We are all expected to accept the declared gender. But there are major problems with this. McHugh states: "When children who reported transgender feelings were tracked without medical or surgical treatment … 70%-80% of them spontaneously lost those feelings." Thankfully their bodies weren't altered when the transgender feelings were present. Yet Boston Children's Hospital is trying to treat supposedly transgendered prepubescent children "by administering puberty-delaying hormones to render later sex-change surgeries less onerous--even though the drugs stunt the children's growth and risk causing sterility" (ibid.).
McHugh also mentions the results of a long-term study, up to 30 years, that followed 324 people who had sex-reassignment surgery. "The study revealed that beginning about 10 years after having the surgery, the transgendered began to experience increasing mental difficulties. Most shockingly, their suicide mortality rose almost 20-fold above the comparable nontransgender population" (emphasis added).
"At the heart of the problem," McHugh concludes, "is confusion over the nature of the transgendered. 'Sex change' is biologically impossible. People who undergo sex-reassignment surgery do not change from men to women or vice versa. Rather, they become feminized men or masculinized women. Claiming that this is a civil-rights matter and encouraging surgical intervention is in reality to collaborate with and promote a mental disorder."
Breitbart notes that when the op-ed was originally published, "the left reacted in fury," some labeling McHugh's views "transphobic" and a form of "science denialism." Yet it is those who support transgenderism who are in denial of science and reality in their drive to completely redefine family relationships. And sadly, the public is more and more willing to comply. (Sources: Breitbart, New York Post , The Wall Street Journal .)
