Did Jesus Christ Foretell Devastating Storms?

An interesting article from http://www.ucg.org/ about prophetic hurricanes. This follows this post about the Day of Atonement. For a free magazine subscription or to get the books recommended for free click HERE! or call 1-888-886- 8632.

In Matthew 24:7-8, Jesus Christ foretold signs that would mark the time leading up to His return: “For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places …”
We have certainly seen devastating earthquakes in recent years. The December 2004 earthquake off Indonesia was the most powerful in decades, unleashing a massive tsunami that took some 300,000 lives. Less than a year later, an earthquake in southern Asia killed another 30,000.
In Matthew 24:7, the Greek word translated “earthquakes” is seismos, from which we derive such English words as “seismology,” referring to the study of earthquakes. Strong’s Lexicon defines it as “a commotion, i.e. (of the air) a gale, (of the ground) an earthquake—earthquake, tempest” (Strong’s No. 4578).
So seismos has a broader meaning than just the earth shaking. Matthew 8 records how a violent storm overtook Jesus and His disciples on the Sea of Galilee, threatening to capsize their boat and drown them—until Jesus miraculously calmed the winds and waves.
The word used in Matthew 8:24 for this powerful storm is seismos , here translated “tempest.” So we see that seismos can also refer to violent storms and isn’t limited strictly to earthquakes. When Jesus foretold “famines, pestilences and earthquakes in various places,” His words encompass natural disasters that include earthquakes, but can also apply to hurricanes, tornadoes and other such deadly storms.
As we saw with Hurricane Katrina, these storms can be enormously destructive. Katrina took more than 1,200 lives and caused an estimated $200 billion in damage, not counting the economic hit from losses to shipping, oil and gas production, fishing and agriculture. New Orleans, devastated by the storm, will not fully recover for decades— if ever.
A hurricane like Katrina, which reached category 5 strength before weakening, can produce winds greater than 155 miles an hour and push ahead of it a wall of water 18 feet or higher, doing major damage to virtually anything in its path.
Are such natural disasters increasing as Jesus foretold?
The Sept. 16, 2005, issue of Science magazine reports on research by scientists at the Georgia Institute of Technology and the National Center for Atmospheric Research. They concluded that while the total number of hurricanes and cyclones had not increased, there has been “a sharp increase during the past 35 years in the number of category 4 and 5 tropical cyclones, the most intense storms that cause most of the damage on landfall” (Richard Kerr, “Is Katrina a Harbinger of Still More Powerful Hurricanes?,” p. 1807).
Specifically, the frequency of the most dangerous and damaging storms—those rated category 4 and 5— increased by 80 percent from the 1970s to the latest decade.
This should certainly make us sit up and take notice. Later in Jesus Christ’s same prophecy, as recorded in Luke 21:25-28, He says: “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth …
“Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”

Why should Christians celebrate the Feast of Trumpets?

An interesting article from http://www.ucg.org/ about the Feast of Trumpets. This follows this post about Iraq. For a free magazine subscription or to get the books recommended for free click HERE! or call 1-888-886- 8632.

The fourth festival of God (after Pentecost) is the Feast of Trumpets (or a “memorial of blowing of trumpets,” Leviticus 23:24-25), which falls in September or October. This festival is called Rosh Hashanah by the Jews today. Ancient Israel understood that trumpets were used as a way of announcing special, very important messages (Numbers 10:1-10).
In the New Testament, Jesus Christ reveals that before His return to the earth, there will be the blowing of seven trumpets, announcing progressive stages of the downfall and overthrow of this world’s kingdoms, ending with the return of Christ to take possession of the earth. Christ’s return is announced by the seventh and final trumpet (Revelation 8:2; Revelation 11:15). This day also pictures the time when faithful Christians will be resurrected to eternal life at the time of the seventh trumpet (1 Corinthians 15:52; 1 Thessalonians 4:16) to reign with Jesus Christ for 1,000 years (Revelation 20:4-6).
Interestingly, it was around this time of year that Jesus was born—not in the dead of winter (see “Biblical Evidence Shows Jesus Wasn’t Born on December 25 “). And the fall feast season represents the time when Jesus Christ will come to the earth again to reign in glory.
The remaining fall feast days describe steps in the establishment of the prophesied Kingdom of God on earth and judgment of humanity after Christ’s return. The Feast of Trumpets is followed by the Day of Atonement.

Armageddon The Battle That Doesn't Exist

An interesting article from http://www.ucg.org/ about Armageddon. This follows this post about quitting smoking. This follows this post about sports. This follows this post about Star Wars. Armageddon is an Anglicized version of the Hebrew  har-Megiddo.   Har means hill rather than something to laugh at, and nobody will be amused at this very sad and terrifying time for humanity. Kings of the earth and their armies will “gather” in a valley called Megiddo for “the battle of that great day of God Almighty” (Revelation 16:13-16). Historically lots of battles have been fought here. But not this time.
Precisely put, they gather here, but the battle will take place elsewhere. Where?
Megiddo is about 80 miles north of Jerusalem. The kings and their armies will mobilize down to the Kidron Valley that runs north and south between the Mount of Olives and the eastern gate of Jerusalem. This makes perfect logistical sense, since at His return, Jesus is going to stand on the Mount of Olives (Zechariah 14:4). And it stands to reason that He will majestically make a triumphant royal processional walk into Jerusalem—through the Lion of Judah eastern gate—that is walled up and reserved for His arrival.
My feet have stood on the Mount of Olives and walked down to the wall, which is close enough to hardly break a sweat. Of course, if Jesus chooses to just pop on over, who will stop Him?
Not the armies, which are merely like grapes clustered in the valley and destined to be stomped in the winepress of His wrath. How do they think they will even have a chance fighting the Son of God, except through strong delusion by the one who relentlessly keeps up his losing cause?
Joel 3:11-16 and Zechariah 14:12-15 warn about this earth-shaking battle. Joel says the Kidron Valley is also called the Valley of Jehoshaphat and refers to it as “the valley of decision.” Anybody who gathers in Megiddo or shows up for the Battle of Jehoshaphat in the Kidron Valley has already made the wrong decision!
For anybody fighting against Christ and His heavenly armies, it will seem like the end of the world! But actually Jesus will come to the rescue just before there would be no flesh saved alive (Matthew 24:22), and restore the earth to 1,000 years of joy, peace and prosperity.
So “the Battle of Armageddon?” “The end of the world?” The battle will be in a different place and in truth, it will be the beginning for the world.

The short answer appears to be “No.” While there are many signs that we are in the last days, this does not appear to be one of them.
Several evangelical ministries teach that four upcoming lunar eclipses in 2014-2015 that coincide with biblical festivals—along with two solar eclipses—could signify that important prophetic events are imminent. The idea emerged from thinking that the prophecy in Joel 2:31 Joel 2:31The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the LORD come.
American King James Version×
of the sun being darkened and the moon turning to blood before the end-time Day of the Lord perhaps denoted solar and lunar eclipses.
A lunar eclipse occurs only at the time of the full moon, when the moon's orbit places it on the opposite side of the earth from the sun. Usually the moon at this time is above or a below direct alignment with the earth and sun, but sometimes it is in alignment so that the earth's shadow is cast over the moon, either completely in a total lunar eclipse or only partially. A solar eclipse occurs only at the invisible new moon, when the moon is between the earth and the sun, at times of direct alignment.
In a lunar eclipse, light from the sun passing around the earth is filtered through the earth's atmosphere as it travels toward the moon. Many colors of the light spectrum are more readily filtered out than red. The term “blood moon” comes from the copper- or reddish-colored appearance of the moon during some lunar eclipses. But depending on atmospheric conditions, the eclipsed moon can have a range of colors, so there is no way to really know if any of the upcoming eclipses will be blood moons.
Lunar eclipses are actually rather common. There were 229 in the 20th century—81 of them total eclipses (as recorded at NASA's eclipse site, eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov ). So in trying to find some significance among them, attention was turned to a relatively rarer occurrence—a lunar tetrad, a series of four total lunar eclipses spanning two years, with six lunar months from one eclipse to the next. And it was noted that, even more rarely, the eclipses in such tetrads at times correspond to the spring feast of Passover and the autumn feast of Tabernacles.
Yet this is perhaps not so remarkable as it sounds. Biblical months begin at the new moon, when solar eclipses can occur. And the festivals of Passover and Tabernacles always occur at the time of the full moon, when lunar eclipses can occur. Indeed, many lunar eclipses fall at the time of Passover and Tabernacles every century. And these feasts are exactly six lunar months apart, just as needed for tetrads to fall (of course, tetrads of eclipses can fall across any months that are six months apart).
In the 20th century there were five lunar tetrads—two coinciding with the biblical feasts. However, some centuries have more or less or even none. Between the years A.D. 1 and 2000, there were 54 tetrads, of which seven corresponded to the feasts. While that might sound extremely rare, 7 out of 54 is about 13 percent—close to what random average would yield.
The seven tetrad periods corresponding to the feasts from years 1 to 2000 were A.D. 162-163, 795-796, 842-843, 860-861, 1493-1494, 1949-1950, 1967-1968. Some have seen a tie-in here to major events in the history of the Jewish people. They note that in 1492 the Jews were expelled from Spain and Columbus discovered the New World, which would later become a haven for them. In 1948 the Jewish state of Israel was born. And in 1967 the Israelis defeated their enemies in the Six-Day War. However, note that the associated tetrads followed these events, sometimes by a year or more. So how did they herald these things?
Moreover, there were no monumental events attached to the first four tetrads. Consider also that the most significant events in Jewish and world history have no tetrads associated with them. From 100 B.C. to A.D. 100 there were no lunar tetrads, feast-related or otherwise, and it was in this period that Jesus Christ lived and died and was resurrected, the New Testament Church began and Jerusalem was destroyed.
We should also note that these feast eclipses don't always exactly correspond to the biblical festivals. Sometimes they fall a day or two off from the festivals as they fall on the Hebrew calculated calendar.
As for the two solar eclipses in 2015, the first, a total one on March 20, is supposed to correspond to the first day of the sacred year, Nisan 1 on the Hebrew calendar. But it actually comes the day before on Adar 29. The second eclipse, a partial one on Sept. 13, comes not on Tishri 1, the Feast of Trumpets, but the day before, Elul 29. This is to be expected since a solar eclipse comes at the exact conjunction of the sun and moon, when the moon is invisible to us because its dark side is facing us, while the new moon or new month on the Hebrew calendar comes shortly after when the first crescent is visible.
The March 20 solar eclipse will be visible in clear skies only in the far North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans, while the Sept. 13 one will be visible only in the area around Antarctica, with the sun not much dimmed because it is not a total eclipse. Neither will be visible from the focal point of Bible prophecy, Jerusalem.
In fact, of the lunar eclipses in the 2014-2015 tetrad, the first three will not be visible from Jerusalem at all. Only the last will be visible from there if the skies are clear—less than half of it as the moon sets on the horizon.
As to Joel 2:31 Joel 2:31The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the LORD come.
American King James Version×
, it mentions the sun being darkened and the moon turned to blood, but nothing about this happening four times in a row. Indeed, the passage must refer to more than mere eclipses. The previous verse mentions “blood and fire and pillars of smoke”—which seems a logical way for the sky to be obscured and the moon to be reddish-colored. Verse 10 shows devastation darkening the sun and moon as well as the stars—the latter of which would not be darkened by eclipses (Joel 2:10 Joel 2:10The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining:
American King James Version×
).
In Matthew 24:29 Matthew 24:29Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
American King James Version×
, Jesus said that these heavenly signs would occur immediately after the Great Tribulation (Matthew 24:22-29 Matthew 24:22-29 22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened. 23 Then if any man shall say to you, See, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. 24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; so that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. 25 Behold, I have told you before. 26 Why if they shall say to you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. 27 For as the lightning comes out of the east, and shines even to the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 28 For wherever the carcass is, there will the eagles be gathered together. 29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
American King James Version×
)—and Revelation 6:12-13 Revelation 6:12-13 12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, see, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; 13 And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, even as a fig tree casts her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
American King James Version×
shows them following that time of martyrdom of God's people as well (Revelation 6:9-11 Revelation 6:9-11 9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: 10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, do you not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? 11 And white robes were given to every one of them; and it was said to them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellow servants also and their brothers, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.
American King James Version×
) and immediately preceding the Day of the Lord (Revelation 6:17 Revelation 6:17For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
American King James Version×
). And so the solar eclipses and lunar tetrad of 2014-15 cannot fulfill these prophecies of the sun being darkened and the moon turned to blood—because the Great Tribulation has not even started, much less concluded.
Some, admitting this, still maintain that the tetrad must indicate something big. Yet the first four feast eclipses of those listed above did not seem to indicate anything. And those claimed to be associated with major events concerning the Jewish people came, for the most part, after those events—which in parallel would mean that big events associated with the 2014-15 tetrad would have already happened (though the Six-Day War came between the first two eclipses of the coincident tetrad).
The world is poised for major events, so significant events might well happen in 2014-2015. But there is no way to know what they would be, if anything, on the basis of the lunar tetrad.

[Steve] 666 may be the most infamous number in history. People avoid it. The devil seems to love it and it's certainly something found in Bible prophecy (“…His number is 666.” - Revelation 13:18 Revelation 13:18Here is wisdom. Let him that has understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred three score and six.
American King James Version×
).
What do you know about it? Many seem to be afraid of this strange mark (Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia). Is it really such an important number? Why does Bible prophecy mention this amount? Have you ever wondered if it has something to do with microchips, identification or conspiracy? Can you really know what this mysterious number, 666, means?
This is something you'll want to understand because it will affect your finances—your money. How else could it impact you as the time of the end time draws near?
Stay tuned to Beyond Today as we examine “666 & You!”
[Announcer] Join our host, Steve Myers and his guests, as they help you understand your future on Beyond Today !
[Steve] 666—the mark—calculations—the number of the Beast. These are all intriguing concepts. They're all found in the back of the Book—the Bible. Perhaps no section of Scripture has drawn more speculation than Revelation 13.
The mark of the Beast has long fascinated those who read Revelation. What will that mark be? Could it be a literal mark like the Jews had to wear during Hitler's Third Reich in WWII? Will it be a figurative mark, such as worshipping a false god? Or could it have something to do with supercomputers, or microchips embedded under the skin of someone's hand?
Speculation makes for interesting imaginations and conversation, but among the many questions you might ask about 666 and the mark of the Beast—there is one very important thing you must ask yourself: When that time comes, what will I do when I'm faced with the mark of the Beast?
Let's notice what the passage actually says in Revelation 13:16-18 Revelation 13:16-18 16 And he causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18 Here is wisdom. Let him that has understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred three score and six.
American King James Version×
, “He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666”.
Can you imagine that society? You can identify that government, the government that inflicts the mark of the Beast in several ways. In a time, that may not be that distant in the future, there will be no difference between the small and the great, the rich and poor, free and slave. The similarity—none of them—not one will be able to buy or sell anything. Now, stop there for just a moment. Imagine this. That means, without the mark, you won't be able to buy groceries or go to any superstore. You won't be able to purchase the latest cell phone, or a retailer can't sell you a pair of jeans. When it comes to that point, you can't even buy a soda or even a pack of gum.
Can you envision the coming time when you're powerlessness to do any business—retail, wholesale; commerce, trade—unless… unless you publicly accept the conditions: the supremacy—the ultimate authority of that government. That government in the Book of Revelation is called the Beast. By submitting to its manipulative power you'll receive its stamp of approval.
Now what kind of government could hold such a sway over the people of this world? Could a demanding, powerful government exert its dominance over you?
Now before you answer that, let's look at what God says about it. Let's look in Revelation 13. That's where we're given a remarkable description of a world-ruling system—an empire, that coming dominating government. Let's notice, “Then I saw a Beast coming up out of the sea. It had ten horns and seven heads, and there was a crown on each horn, A name against God was written on each head. And the dragon gave the Beast all of hi power and this throne and great authority. One of the heads of the Beast looked as if it had been killed by a wound, but this death wound was healed. Then the whole world was amazed and followed the Beast. People worshiped the dragon because he had given his power to the Beast. And they also worshiped the Beast, asking. “Who is like the Beast? Who can make war against it”?” (Revelation 13:1-4 Revelation 13:1-4 1 And I stood on the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads the name of blasphemy. 2 And the beast which I saw was like to a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. 3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. 4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power to the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like to the beast? who is able to make war with him?
American King James Version×
NCV).
Now, nations uniting together is nothing new. But imagine this future governmental system. How is it described? As a monster, a beast, rising up out of the sea! We're told it's an alliance. It's a coalition or a union of 10 lesser authorities that have all come together. Now, where does its power and authority originate? It's not from popular vote. It's not from the voice of the people. It's not from democratic politics. It draws its control and power from the dragon.
Now you know the dragon. His identity is revealed in Revelation 12:9 Revelation 12:9And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceives the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
American King James Version×
. It says, “So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him”.
You see that monster government and its demonic leader is inspired and guided by the dragon, by Satan. He provides the power. He provides the authority. He provides that ruling throne. So the devil works behind the scenes through the Beast. He is the one who is responsible for leading the whole world astray.
Now, did you notice Revelation 13? It says that this system and its leader captivates the imagination of the world and exerts such an astounding military might that it appears to be invincible. Your Bible identifies it as a political, a military, a social and an economic power of extraordinary proportions, and it dominates the world.
Now, how will these future events affect you? How will these events affect your family? Is there a way to know what lies ahead? There is! I'd like to offer you a free study guide that will help you discover the fascinating truth about the Beast and these coming future events.

Now could the mark of the Beast affect your life? If you're alive at that time, there is no doubt, it will! Notice how it could have a powerful impact on your world.
“The Beast was allowed to say proud words and words against God, and it was allowed to use its power for forty-two months. It used its mouth to speak against God. It was given power to make war against God's holy people and to defeat them. It was given power over every tribe, people, language, and nation. And all who live on earth will worship the Beast - all… whose names are not written in the Lamb's book of life” (Revelation 13:5-8 Revelation 13:5-8 5 And there was given to him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given to him to continue forty and two months. 6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. 7 And it was given to him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. 8 And all that dwell on the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
American King James Version×
NCV).
This future government, which includes a world-dominating military power will be the adversary of God. It will be the adversary of the God of the Bible. It opposes everything that God stands for and even more than that, it wants to abolish His way. It wants to suppress God's laws. It wants to overpower His purpose and eliminate His people from the earth. You see this government doesn't exist for the benefit of all, but only for those who worship it and serve its ungodly, wicked mission.
This coming system, it won't be based on individual freedoms. It's not “one nation under God” or “a government of the people, by the people and for the people.” This is a kind of government with a power and influence that this world has not seen the likes of. It will also be a system of the state with church, that is directly influenced and guided by none other than the spiritual force of Satan, that dragon.
The devil, he will use this system. He'll use it to prevent the worship of the one true God. Government policy will undermine the activities of God's people and turn humanity away from the one true God. Now could you be influenced and infected by the Beast and the dragon?
Can you imagine that kind of a world? Can you picture living in a world where you are the enemy of the state because you believe and worship the true God? Now visualize that time. It might not be that far in the future. A time when you'll have to make a decision. A decision between God or access to money! You will have to choose. It will be a time that you'll be forced to decide between God and groceries, character or clothing, truthfulness or trade. Can you see it in your mind's eye? A world where your family is in need, and all the things of life, they're abundant. They're readily available, but the price tag is your loyalty, your faith, your life.
You see Revelation 14 gives us more information. In verse 9 it says, “If anyone worships the Beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the Beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name” (Revelation 14:9-11 Revelation 14:9-11 9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, 10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: 11 And the smoke of their torment ascends up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.

).
Now that doesn't sound pretty. There's no doubt, the number of the Beast and his mark—666—is coming. Today's leaders are already struggling with this amazing global economic crisis. Now in the future, ideas and strategies will emerge that will suddenly, dramatically reshape the structure of the world's economy, its wealth, its financial system. It will lead us to a time of the mark of the Beast. Could you be taken in by it? Now don't be too sure.
Remember how Jesus warned the disciples? He said, “Take heed that no one deceives you” (Matthew 24:4 Matthew 24:4And Jesus answered and said to them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
American King James Version×
). You see the time is coming when, as Christ said, you could be misled. You could be fooled. You could be taken in by what seems to be something that's good and something that's right.
Revelation 19:20 Revelation 19:20And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that worked miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
American King James Version×
says, “Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast — Did you catch that? Deceived those. He deceived those who received the mark of the beast, — and those who worshiped his image”.
So you see, the key is deception. So are you sure that you're fool proof? You've got to be certain.
Could you be misled by events happening around you? Now here's something that you've got to watch out for. What will seem to bring hope to the world? Where will financial solutions come from? How will war and conflict come to an end? What's going to fix the global economy? As a world ruling government begins to come on the scene with an amazing leader—it'll seem like an answer to all your problems.
Bible prophecy tells us that an incredible leader with supernatural capabilities will come to power. He'll bring artificial peace. He'll have impressive speaking skills and he'll seem to have all the best solutions. Manipulation and craftiness like a sly beast, he'll be backed by evil—a spiritual force that will sway governments and pull the wool over the eyes of the world. But could it be your eyes?
The prophet Daniel describes that shrewd leader.
“A king shall arise, having fierce features, who understands sinister schemes. His power shall be mighty, but not by his own power…Through his cunning He shall cause deceit to prosper under his rule; and he shall exalt himself in his heart. He shall destroy many in their prosperity” (Daniel 8:23-25 Daniel 8:23-25 23 And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. 24 And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practice, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people. 25 And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.
American King James Version×
).
Because all will seem good, the world will love the temporary peace. They'll love the good economy, prosperity. Now could you be deceived by these? No wonder that small and great, rich and poor, free and slave will willingly receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads. Because by taking the mark or the name of the Beast, or the number of his name, people will ultimately feel protected. They'll feel safe. They'll feel secure—able to buy and to sell.
You see many have speculated about the meaning of this fascinating prophecy. Some interpret it literally in terms of supercomputers, unique personal I.D. numbers and maybe even microchips under the skin with some sort of advanced surveillance system.
There is historical evidence that, in the ancient Babylonian culture, slaves “were indentified…[by] some kind of mark, either tattooed or branded on the face or the back of the hand…”( The Greatness That Was Babylon , H.W.H. Saggs)
Now there may be parallels between this ancient practice and what God reveals will happen in the end time.
Now it's also possible that this mark on the hand or on the forehead could be figurative. Remember when Moses told God's people to “Keep all His statues and His commandments…bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes” (Deuteronomy 6:2 Deuteronomy 6:2That you might fear the LORD your God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, you, and your son, and your son’s son, all the days of your life; and that your days may be prolonged.
American King James Version×
; Deuteronomy 6:8 Deuteronomy 6:8And you shall bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
American King James Version×
).
So you see the hand and the forehead represents your actions and your thoughts, your mind and your behavior. So, instead of the Beast controlling your behavior and your thinking, you must be dedicated to obey God—no matter what.
The mark of the Beast is a sign. It's a symbol that shows you're disobeying and defying God. So many serious Bible students point to God's Saturday Sabbath as an identifying sign and they realize that this mark of the Beast defies true worship of God.
Forcing people to observe Sunday worship—a day originally dedicated to honor the sun as a god, instead of the observance of the seventh-day Saturday Sabbath—could very well be involved. Now you might say, why? Well many prophecies in the book of Revelation show that a great counterfeit religion and false prophet will play major roles in leading people away from the one true God.
Now don't you be taken in. When you consider 666 and the mark of the Beast, it will be associated with the Beast's name and apply to his evil activities. Don't be fooled by compromising or contradicting God's commands. Make sure you know them and do them.

Our topic today is “666 and You.” Now we've been discussing the mark of the Beast and its symbolism and the reality. How will these future events affect you and your family? Well it's time for the Beyond Today panel. So we've got fellow hosts, Darris McNeely and Gary Petty with us.
We've read earlier Revelation 13:16 Revelation 13:16And he causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
American King James Version×
where it says, people will [People will] receive a mark on their right had or on their foreheads,…no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”
So why do you think that the Beast and the connection to this mark has anything to do with buying and selling? Why do you think that's such an important aspect?
[Gary] You know Steve, I think to understand that you have to look at the Beast in the context of all of the book of Revelation. You've read earlier that he would reign for 42 months. Well if you look at the chronology of the book of Revelation, there is something that happens before that 42 months and it's called the four horsemen of the Apocalypse. And the earth is in a devastated collapse. I mean the economies have collapsed. There is violence. There's all kinds of problems. There's disease epidemics. And in this chaos and in this time of collapse, the Beast comes along and what he promises to do, and what he starts to do is restore some kind of semblance of life and he starts to give people back prosperity, the basic needs that they just need to have because of this chaos. See, he actually is seen as savior because he begins to bring some kind of order to a collapsing world.
[Steve] So in a lot of ways, it's almost the opposite of what you might think. That something so evil would be easily recognizable…
[Darris] No…
[Steve] …but it's going to take a different form.
[Darris] Oh he will be looked upon as a benign figure; a positive influence that will pull the society back from the brink of complete collapse. Security will be restored. People's pensions, people's way of life, their ability to marry, give in marriage and eat and drink as Matthew 24 talks about will be perpetuated. It will be restored and that will be credited to the plan that this power will have and it will be totally benign at first. And then there will come a moment and there will come a time when a sense, the mask will be ripped off and there will be a revelation as to how evil this system is. But that's not how it will come to power.
[Steve] And so it's not a thing that suddenly we'll be surprised by this and be taken in by it in the sense that this is so evil that it overcomes us, but almost the opposite in the sense that it… it looks really good.
[Darris] The people are already being conditioned for it today. We have already gone through one major economic collapse in 2008 and the world which is still ongoing and having its impact in the world. We were in 2008, we were they say 24 hours away from an ATM debit card being put into a machine and not working. And when you imagine that impact happening upon a society, once again and perhaps even taking place but then a powerful system comes along and a being, a personality with the ability to prevent that, then it's going to be seen as a savior.
[Gary] I think security is the big word. I mean it's going to be such a time of insecurity because it's going to be a total collapse economically of the world. It's not just going to be the Untied States or locally, it's going to be a world economic collapse. And because of that, I mean when there is no money, when you can't buy, you can't get your basic needs and suddenly you can have luxuries again and you can normalcy again. His attraction for that sense of security is going to be enormous.
[Steve] So it's not one of those things we'll unknowingly or unwillingly submit to. It is something we'll want because it'll seem so good and so right.
[Darris] And that's why people will be taken in by this and even those people who read these scriptures in Revelation 13 about the Beast—and we're not the only program or group talking about this. Many, many people understand this and think they understand it but in reality, they don't. And those who think that they understand the mark of the Beast are going to be going right along with it, and they'll be serving it and take on that mark because they will have been conditioned by a number of events that are topical and current but also their own way of life. And they will be brought into it not knowing that they have been set up virtually from their whole life.
[Steve] Okay, cause we talked about the economy and finances but we didn't focus a whole lot on the religious aspect of this as well. So religion comes into play?
[Darris] The day of the week upon which people actually worship is Sunday as opposed to the biblical Sabbath—the Sabbath that God instituted by the Commandments. In chapter 14 and also back in chapter 12, the people of God are identified as those who keep the commandments of God (Revelation 14:12 Revelation 14:12Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
American King James Version×
; Revelation 12:17 Revelation 12:17And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
American King James Version×
), and the people who come under this system in chapter 13 are not going to be keeping the commandments of God and one of the critical commandments of the Sabbath. And so they're going to go right along with it, in reality buying into it and receiving the mark because of the day upon which they worship or the system that enforces that. And then they're not going to understand it.
[Gary] Let me read the verse that you just mentioned here. Because it's in chapter 14 which you were, you've been quoting much of in which you were talking about. “Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus” (Revelation 14:12 Revelation 14:12Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
American King James Version×
).
So there's two things here that would help us understand and be prepared for this. We're obeying God and we have faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior and as our Master, as our soon coming King. So those two things combined together to help people be able to see these events, understand what's happening and be able to reject that mark.
[Steve] So if we're going to reject the mark of the Beast, we've got to have God's markings in our forehead and in our hands.
[Gary] And really you're choosing two ways here and you're choosing two marks—God's mark or Satan's mark. It really comes down to that.
[Steve] Alright, some important things to think about. I think we've got to make sure we're ready to reject the mark of the Beast, in whatever anti-biblical form that it takes.
