Why are Pro-Abortion Groups Rebranding? They’re Losing With Young People

by Michael New, Ph.D. | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com |
The New York Times ran an interesting article last week about how supporters of legal abortion are backing away from the label “pro-choice.” But supporters of legal abortion redefining themselves is nothing new: The group NARAL started in the late 1960s as the National Association to Repeal the Abortion Laws. Later, they became the National Abortion Rights Action League.
Later still, they became the National Abortion Rights and Reproductive Rights Action League. The most interesting name shift, however, occurred in 2003, when NARAL evidently decided that abortion was playing too prominent a role in its name and they became “NARAL: Pro-Choice America.”
prolifestudents37Apparently now even the term “pro-choice” has fallen out of favor.
The New York Times article is consistent with my own observations. As a college professor, I have noticed that campus groups supportive of legal abortion now use the term “reproductive justice” instead of “pro-choice.” I’ve also noticed that supporters of legal abortion are having a difficult time engaging the current generation of young adults. A recent Rasmussen poll confirms that impression, finding that voters under 40 were less likely than other age demographics to find the abortion issue “very important” while voting and more likely to find the issue “not at all important.”
Moreover, there is plenty of survey data which finds that the current generation of young adults is more skeptical about abortion than previous generations. The General Social Survey (GSS) has been collecting opinion data on abortion using the same battery of questions since the 1970s. During the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, respondents between the ages of 18 and 29 were the least sympathetic toward the pro-life position. Yet since 2000, the GSS has consistently found that young adults are actually more comfortable limiting abortion in certain circumstances than are older Americans.

Other polling data shows that young adults are more likely than other demographic groups to support a 20-week abortion ban and are fairly comfortable with a range of incremental pro-life laws.
The article, in other words, is good news. It is clear that supporters of legal abortion are struggling to find messaging that will engage young voters, while pro-lifers continue to make quiet inroads among young adults.

Ask your Representative to take a minute to read the letter and pledge their support for the investigation and defunding of Planned Parenthood.

An interesting story from http://www.sba-list.org/  about Planned Parenthood. This follows this post about Nancy Pelosi bashing her fellow Catholics.  For more that you can do to get involved click  HERE and you can also get a very interesting book HERE!

Ask your Representative to take a minute to read the letter and pledge their support for the investigation and defunding of Planned Parenthood.

Few testimonies are as effective at exposing the lies of the abortion industry then those given by former abortion industry employees themselves. From former abortionist (and founder of NARAL) Bernard Nathanson to former Planned Parenthood clinic director Abby Johnson, the witness of a former abortion industry employee is powerful.

That’s why I’m so excited to share the news with you that seven converts to the cause— all former employees of Planned Parenthood— have signed a letter to Congress in support of the investigation of their former employer launched by Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-FL).

I need your help to make sure the letter has the biggest possible impact as possible on Capitol Hill.

Simply ask your Representative to take a minute to read the letter and pledge their support for the investigation and defunding of Planned Parenthood.

By now, most of us have heard the incredible conversion story of pro-life activist, Abby Johnson. Abby had already begun to question her work at Planned Parenthood, but it was after watching an ultrasound-guided abortion and seeing the murder of an innocent human being with her own eyes that she quit her job at Planned Parenthood and began to speak out for Life.

The testimony of Abby and others inspired more former Planned Parenthood employees to come out from the shadows. Catherine Adair, who used to work for Planned Parenthood in Boston is also now an outspoken advocate for unborn children and their mothers. And Dr. Patti Giebink, a former abortionist at Planned Parenthood, now proudly works to protect innocent human life in her home state of South Dakota.

These brave women know the truth: Planned Parenthood is an abortion-centered, profit-driven business that sees only dollar signs when vulnerable women walk through their doors. They know it’s time to stop taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood and get taxpayers out of the abortion business, which is why they are eager to support the investigation launched by Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-FL).

Stand with them and Take Action: Urge your Representative to read the letter signed by former employees of Planned Parenthood and tell them to support the investigation.

In the letter, the seven former employees say that one or more of them are prepared to testify to incidents they have witnessed in which an employee or affiliate of Planned Parenthood failed to:

Properly account for and maintain separation between government funds prohibited from use for elective abortions and those funds derived from other sources that are not subject to such limitations;

Notify parents when a vulnerable girl is seeking an abortion, including instances when the minor girl is the victim of an act of statutory rape under applicable state law;

Provide a woman undergoing an abortion with accurate and relevant information regarding the stage of her pregnancy, including the opportunity to view ultrasound imagery that may have made a profound impact on her decision to undergo an abortion;

Detect and act upon instances where a girl or woman was brought to the clinic under some degree of coercion, up to and including instances where the girl or woman was subjected to human trafficking and was a victim of crime;

Engage in appropriate financial controls and billing practices to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal laws.

as you can see, the investigation of Planned Parenthood is long overdue.

We must do everything we can to use this appropriate step in congressional oversight to expose Planned Parenthood for what it is: a business centered on abortion and a willing ally to those who seek to exploit vulnerable women.

 Urge your Representative to read the letter signed by former employees of Planned Parenthood and tell them to support the investigation.

I look forward to keeping you updated with the investigation and can’t thank you enough for everything you do to protect Life.

Help LifeNews.com Take on Their Pro-Abortion Competition

This post is an interesting one if you are a social-issues conservative on a topic such as abortion, which many of us believe is murder.

Help LifeNews.com Take on Our Pro-Abortion Competition
This month, as we attempt to arm as many pro-life people as possible with information about the pro-abortion health care bills pending in Congress, we are challenging you with a new goal.
And that is to help us take on our main opponent, our main nemesis or competition in the abortion news race.
As you probably know, there are several good news sources that provide pro-life news coverage. We don't regard our friends at places like WorldNetDaily, CNS News, OneNewsNow or Lifesite as competition -- they are our much-needed partners because we have the same shared agenda of a commitment to protecting the inherent dignity of the unborn and others. In fact, I hope you receive some of their news as a supplement to the single-issue pro-life coverage we provide here at LifeNews.com.
No, apart frm the pro-abortion mainstream media, and pro-abortion web pages like Huffington Post and others our mail single-issue pro-abortion competition comes in the form of a pro-abortion "news" outlet that is more of an opinion blog, rant sheet, or forum for extreme pro-abortion activists: RH Reality Check.
You've seen us mention RHRC before and it is funded with hundreds of thousands (perhaps millions of dollars) by the pro-abortion and Ted Turner-created United Nations Foundation. It bills itself as a counter to the pro-life reporting of web sites like LifeNews.com - which it frequently mentions and criticizes.
The site is popular with abortion advocates and often features opinion columns from the likes of Cecile Richards, Nancy Keenan and other members of the abortion industry.
While LifeNews.com has little chance of keeping up with the funding RH Reality Check receives, we know that, with your help and support, we can out-hustle them.
According to Alexa, which ranks the hundreds of millions of web sites, LifeNews.com led RH Reality Check in readership from its creation in mid 2008 through much of this year. However, the pro-abortion side has discovered this lone forum for pro-abortion news and information and RHRC now holds the lead.
After taking a week-long break in anticipation of the upcoming health care battles, LifeNews.com's ranking now stands at 77,138. That compares with RHRC's ranking of 69,716.
Our goal for the month of November is to eclipse RHRC every week and for the month overall -- enough to raise our ranking above our pro-abortion opponents.
Why does it matter?
The hallmark of the abortion battle is education and we have always known we have the truth on our side. The more people who are exposed to the truth of abortion and how it kills children and hurts women, the sooner we will be able to end this travesty. And on the flip-side, the more people who know about key abortion battles like the abortion funding in the health care bills, the better able we will be to stop abortion.
Frankly, the pro-life movement needs more people getting the truth from LifeNews.com than reading the disinformation, lies and coverups over at RH Reality Check.
So how can you help us?
Below you will find a list of ways you can help promote LifeNews.com and our pro-life news coverage to pro-life friends, family members, church members and people you may not even know.
Do one of these things, do all of them, do them every day. Sit and watch your favorite movie on the couch and help promote our news, make it a family competition, challenge your kids, your youth group -- whatever it takes.
At the end of the month, your hard work will ensure that more pro-life people are better informed to save babies from abortions now and will make sure more people are exposed to the truth about Planned Parenthood, Obama and their pro-abortion activist allies.
Thank you for your help and please understand that we don't seek your support for our own glory or accolades. This is an effort with the sole goal of educating more people against abortion than the other side does for it and getting as much information in the hands of pro-life people as possible so they can make a difference in their nation, state or community.
Again, thank you for your support last month and we look forward to making November one in which the pro-life sides outworks and outpaces our opponents: abortion and its enthusiastic supporters. Because lives literally hang in the balance.
For the unborn,Steven

Feminism: Then and Now

I wanted to let you know about this article about a part of feminism that hasn't been covered that thoroughly. The article does talk of some early feminists and contrasts their views with current feminists. This also covers an issue about one of the reasons for the decline of the Western nations. I hope you find this timely and interesting.

Revisiting Abortion
Armstrong Williams
Tuesday, September 30, 2008
Although the abortion debate has largely been cast in terms of a woman’s right to choose whether or not to give birth to a fetus, based on a set of lifestyle and health-related factors, the alarming number of abortions performed each year suggests a different story altogether. With well over a million abortions performed annually in the United States alone, more than 50 million abortions performed in America since the Supreme Court’s landmark Roe v. Wade decision 35 years ago, it might appear that abortion has become little more than a routine medical procedure, undertaking little or no real consideration of its true consequences.
Surely, some of the causal factors behind such a choice are understandable within the context of the world we find ourselves facing. With fatherhood and male role models increasingly absent, and rapidly disintegrating family and community networks, it is no wonder that many women feel they cannot raise a child on their own. While, in many countries, pregnancy is considered an honorable contribution to society, in our modern Western civilization, childbirth, especially among women of prime child-bearing age, is seen through the lens of constricted lifestyle and career choices. Women with children are seen as less valuable in the workplace and less likely to succeed in life. Children are viewed, not as our greatest resource leading to a better future for our civilization and the world at large, but as a burden on our individuality and l ifestyle.
This choice stems from a prism of values that distort the true nature of God-given equality. This view is not restricted to the Western world, but is surprising given the strides we have made over the past century in upholding and advancing the rights of women. The earliest American feminists, Elizabeth Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, equated abortion with slavery as barbaric practices. Stanton was quoted as saying, "When we consider that women are treated as property, it is degrading to women that we should treat our children as property to be disposed of as we see fit." Anthony went as far as to refer to abortion as "child-murder." These early pioneers of civil rights and women’s suffrage found it abominable that either unborn or fully formed human beings could be considered property, to be used and discarded like animals. In fact, when animals are used in a similar manner, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) goes berserk trying to defend the rights of animals. The ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) often boasts about advocating those without a voice, yet they sided with the women, who once upon a time had no voice, but who has less of a voice than a baby i nside her mother’s womb? Somewhere along the way, feminism became distorted and turned on the very values that gave rise to it. Somehow “convenience” and “comfort” became values more important than the right to life, where a woman can exterminate any chance at life on a whim. Is that where we want to be as a society, where lives can be used as leverage or in some tragic cases, as revenge?
Equality, whether in gender or societal terms, has been falsely equated with sameness. When America’s founders evoked the principle that people are created equal, they did not mean that all people are the same. Rather, they implied that all are equal in the sight of God; that our diversity of talents and perspectives as individuals should be properly valued as contributions to the growth of a great civilization. One need not be the same in order to be treated equally under the law. But this view has been distorted in modern feminism: rather than urging a re-valuing of the value of motherhood, modern feminists merely sought to become men in dresses, and some seem intent on doing away with those dresses too. In doing so they overlooked the value of the sacrifice associated with motherhood. It should be noted that even under the best circumstances childbirth is an arduous ordeal, fraught with danger. On the other hand, it is perhaps one of the noblest forms of sacrifice that a person can offer to society, and potentially the most rewarding. We ought not to forget that half of society is incapable of undergoing this sacrifice and having the honor of bringing new life into the world. Yes, bearing children is a privilege that half of us are not afforded, and when people who have power use it to oppress others in order to gain more comfort for themselves we usually call them tyrannical. It’s highly dubious that the intent of the feminist movement was to create tyrants out of teenagers and young women or their families who force them to vanquish an unborn baby. Motherhood and fatherhood are not a useless burden: they are the basic building blocks of a great nation. Without the sacrifice of parents, nations could not exist.
