Editorial: Bathroom Laws as a Distraction? Or as more of the Same?

Editorial

The bathroom law issue is the latest one that the President is using to distract from his non-enforcement of immigration laws, as well as flooding the U.S. with Syrian, and now Cuban, refugees and Unaccompanied Minors.

Who would have thought Eight Years Ago that these bathroom laws would be imposed! Even the Liberal state of  California had implemented Proposition 8 defining marriage as between a man and a woman! http://www.alipac.us/f8/pac-plans-defeat-key-politicians-responsible-illegal-immigration-332295/

Of course this is all "Executive Orders." This includes immigration such as DACA and others, and now this Bathroom law!

Unfortunately, the current GOP leadership recoils from the word "IMPEACHMENT" like a vampire from the sunlight, yet they have the Audacity to say Mr. Trump is not conservative!!!!

Signs and Lying Wonders Will You Be Deceived?

An interesting article from http://www.ucg.org/ about Fatima and other signs. This follows this post about Mideast turmoil. This follows this post about Facebook and Transgendered people. In our modern age, many people are skeptical of claims of healings, miracles or any supernatural events. The miracles of the Bible are looked at as quaint fairy tales developed by primitive cultures to explain the mysteries of nature. Today, science claims to give man the godlike ability to explain those wonders, and the rational mind believes all phenomena can be explained by nature—without God.
Yet there remains something just below the surface of the modern psyche that is tantalized by the mysterious and unexplainable. UFOs, ghosts, magic and witchcraft are still incredibly popular. And the mystical elements of various religions attract myriad new converts every year. Sites like Fatima, Lourdes and Medjugorje draw millions of pilgrims each year.
The Bible foretells a time when religion will play a major role in places like Europe, where religion was written off many decades ago. How can church again dominate state in such a secular wasteland? It seems the prophesied miracles will play a major part in bringing about this change in the “zeitgeist” (spirit of the times) of the Continent.
First, can supernatural wonders really come from a source other than God?
Lying wonders
Even those with a passing knowledge of the Bible have heard of the Exodus and the parting of the Red Sea . Before the pharaoh was willing to let his Israelite slaves go, the Bible records 10 devastating plagues God brought on the stubborn Egyptian ruler and his people.
Interestingly, the pharaoh's magicians were able to duplicate, on a smaller scale, the first two plagues, making water appear as blood and making even more frogs appear on Egypt than those God had sent (Exodus 7:22 and 8:7). They were also able to make their rods change into snakes (Exodus 7:11-12). Whether these were tricks and illusions or actual supernatural miracles from an evil spiritual source, they had the intended effect. They hardened the pharaoh's heart, meaning they cemented his resistance to the demands of the Israelites.
Eventually, though, the magicians admitted they were outclassed and could not duplicate God's third plague. “This is the finger of God,” they said (Exodus 8:19).
Because of the existence of false miracles and false prophets, God warned Israel to reject any miracle worker who denies Him or speaks contrary to His laws and teachings (Deuteronomy 13:1-3). God says just because someone's prophecy happens or a miracle occurs doesn't mean we should follow that person.
These warnings continued to apply in the New Testament. “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits,” Christ warned (Matthew 7:15-16).
Those fruits obviously went beyond whether the prophecies occurred or the miracles happened. Christ described some who cast out demons and did many wonders in His name. “And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness” (Matthew 7:23). Denying God's laws remains a fruit of the way of darkness (Isaiah 8:20).
End-time warnings
In a prophecy for the end times, Jesus the Christ warned, “False christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect” (Matthew 24:24).
The apostle Paul expands on this in 2 Thessalonians 2, with a warning about “the lawless one” who comes with “all power, signs, and lying wonders” (verse 9). Paul says it takes a love of the truth—the Bible and God's law—to avoid being deceived by this man of sin, this lawless one (verse 10).
The apostle John also expands on this warning in Revelation 13. This chapter starts by talking about a “beast” representing a great end-time empire—a government that will rule much of the earth. Then in verse 11 it talks about another beast with two horns like a lamb—meaning he tries to appear like Christ, the Lamb—but who speaks like a dragon, Satan. This is the same one who is called the False Prophet in Revelation 19, who we believe will be a religious leader in Europe.
Revelation 13:13-14 says: “He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived.”
For more about the meaning of this prophecy and the framework of end-time prophecy, read or request our free booklets The Book of Revelation Unveiled and You Can Understand Bible Prophecy at www.wnponline.org/litreq .
What this means for us
Someday in the not-too-distant future, miracles will occur that will be widely publicized and that will convince even many of the skeptical people of our day. Perhaps supernatural fire will destroy enemies, or other spectacular miracles will occur. Will they convince you to follow the ones who perform them?
The antidote to lying wonders is to know what the Bible teaches and be prepared. Those who fall for the “unrighteous deception” of the “lawless one” are those who “did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved” (2 Thessalonians 2:9-10).
God's people, on the other hand, are those “who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ” (Revelation 12:17). But even to the Church Christ said, “Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain…Hold fast what you have…anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see” (Revelation 3:2, 11, 18).
The biblical description of God's Church compared to the counterfeits is laid out in detail in the booklet The Church Jesus Built , also online at www.wnponline.org/litreq .
Examine the fruits. Are the miracle workers teaching God's laws and fulfilling His will? Or are they using miracles to trick people into supporting a government and a religion that are actually opposed to God's law and His plan? Many people will believe that the miracles they see are of God. Study God's Word; examine the fruits.
Don't be deceived! WNP

Dialoguing About Gender Identity

gender-issuesThere’s been a lot of buzz about gender identity recently, and young people are taking note. The question is… what are they resolving as true?
I stumbled on two very helpful resources in the past few weeks that provide really good information and provoke meaningful conversation. One is a video that simply makes you stop and think logically for a moment. The other is an extremely insightful statement to educators and legislators published by The American College of Pediatricians that looks at gender ideology medically and scientifically.
I’ll highlight each resource below, and then provide discussion questions you can use to dialogue with young people about these resources.
I preface this post by saying—this is an incredibly difficult subject to even talk about today. It’s tender for me, because someone I deeply care about is experiencing these feelings right now. And many of you know and have experienced, if you voice any disagreement about the transgender movement… you are often deemed “a hater.” Because of this many people avoid the conversation. Meanwhile, loud voices are shouting, “Everything is okay.” “Go with what feels right.” So I urge you to approach this subject prayerfully and cautiously. If you are a believer in Jesus and the Bible, like I am, then remember a foundational truth of our theology: we are all sinners and we all need Jesus. And the more time we spend time reading the Gospels and studying Jesus, the more we’ll notice two things out of him: 1. He had incredible compassion and grace for sinners. 2. At the same time he wasn’t afraid to tell the truth. He never bent his theology to get out of a sticky situation. So pray for that balance. Approach the subject in love and as someone who doesn’t have all the answers. Talk more about what you are for, instead of “clanging” about what you are against. And remember, the person you are sitting with might be experiencing these feelings. Pray you can be a source of grace and truth to that person, remembering you probably won’t have the opportunity to share truth if you don’t demonstrate grace.
College Kids Say the Darndest Things: On IdentityThe first resource I encountered was an eye-opening video from The Family Policy Institute of Washington (thanks Walt Mueller for blogging about this). I didn’t know where the interviewer was going with this at first… but stick with it. Very thought provoking.
I love his approach. No lecturing, just good questions and a lot of listening.
Questions To Discuss:
  1. What stuck out to you the most from that video? (This question will allow you to take the temperature of the people sitting in front of you.)
  2. Why is it hard for these college students to tell a 5’9” white guy that he is NOT a 6’5” Chinese woman?
  3. What is the difference between being born a male and being born Chinese?
  4. What did you think of the statement you heard: “If you feel 7 at heart, then good for you”?
  5. Why did people seem to specifically have difficulty with him saying he was taller than he was?
  6. He asked a girl why she would question that he was 6’5” tall, and she responded, “Because you’re not.” How come we can say that about someone’s height, but not their gender?
  7. If someone feels like they are 6 feet 5 inches tall, are they?
  8. Can feelings be wrong? Explain.
  9. So what is our “plumb line” or standard for truth?
NOTE: Emphasize that the point of this is NOT to question people about their gender, but instead, to consider our own thinking and reasoning as we evaluate truth.
Gender Ideology Harms ChildrenThe second resource was an intriguing article from several esteemed doctors, like the President and Vice President of the American College of Pediatricians, and the professor of psychology and former chief psychiatrist at Johns Hopkins Hospital. I can’t begin to articulate as well as this article does, so I encourage you to read the article word for word. Truly fascinating! But here’s the gist:
The article is titled: Gender Ideology Harms Children
The statement not only clarifies misconceptions about a third sex, but it also illuminates that… and I quote… “a person’s belief that he or she is something they are not is, at best, a sign of confused thinking.” In fact, Gender Dysphoria is a recognized mental disorder by the American Psychological Association. Since this is a psychological problem that exists in the mind, not the body, it would actually be “abusive” to recommend puberty-blocking hormones.
Why do they discourage chemical or surgical changes until after adolescence?
  • Because the overwhelming majority (70% to 98% of males, 50% to 88% of females) eventually accept their biological sex after naturally passing through puberty. In other words, it’s a psychological condition that will pass when their brain is done developing (which for males, can be in the mid-twenties).
  • Because puberty blockers are dangerous (cause infertility, stunted growth, low bone density, and an unknown impact on brain development), and then cross-sex hormones will be required in late adolescence and those have dangerous health risks as well (high blood pressure, blood clots, stroke, cancer).
  • Rates of suicide are documented up to twenty times greater among adults who use cross-sex hormones and undergo sex reassignment surgery, even in Sweden, which is among the most LGBQT-affirming countries (which squashes the argument that the high suicide rate is simply because they are bullied and oppressed).
The authors go on to say, “Conditioning children into believing that a lifetime of chemical and surgical impersonation of the opposite sex is normal and healthful is child abuse.”
The statement concludes with this bold proclamation about those who encourage GD children to impersonate the opposite sex and take puberty blocking hormones:
Never has it been more scientifically clear that children and adolescents are incapable of making informed decisions regarding permanent, irreversible and life-altering medical interventions. For this reason, the College maintains it is abusive to promote this ideology, first and foremost for the well-being of the gender dysphoric children themselves, and secondly, for all of their non-gender-discordant peers, many of whom will subsequently question their own gender identity, and face violations of their right to bodily privacy and safety. (emphasis mine)
Paul McHugh, the author from Johns Hopkins, had written another article on the subject back in 2014, Transgender Surgery Isn’t the Solution, sharing how Johns Hopkins, the first American medical center to venture into “sex-reassignment surgery,” actually stopped doing the surgery because the patients were just as troubled after the surgery.
He wraps up that article with the following:
At the heart of the problem is confusion over the nature of the transgendered. “Sex change” is biologically impossible. People who undergo sex-reassignment surgery do not change from men to women or vice versa. Rather, they become feminized men or masculinized women. Claiming that this is a civil-rights matter and encouraging surgical intervention is in reality to collaborate with and promote a mental disorder.
Questions To Discuss:
  1. What stuck out to you in these articles?
  2. Why do these doctors, the American Psychological Association, and others call Gender Dysphoria a “disorder”?
  3. Why do you think the majority of young people eventually grow out of this thinking (that they might want to be the opposite sex)?
  4. Why do you think these doctors, Johns Hopkins Hospital and so many others think it’s “abusive” to recommend permanent chemical and surgical treatment until after adolescence?
  5. Why do you think the rate of suicide is twenty times greater for this group?
  6. How can we show love to someone who is experiencing Gender Dysphoria?
I hope these resources provide an avenue for discussion. Today’s Christians need to be on the lookout for opportunities to engage in pleasant, soft spoken, meaningful dialogue (not monologue), where we get a chance to listen to the needs of others and share a little truth.

Government and the Gay Agenda

An interesting article from http://www.ucg.org/ about the gay agenda of intolerance. This follows this post about marijuana and other drugs. This follows this post about Russia's geography. It seemed strange when the gay wedding ceremony of the weather anchor on ABC's Good Morning America and his partner was covered by the news program with smiles and well wishes from the cohosts. A little later, the Today show covered the story of one of its weekend anchors having a baby with her lesbian partner—with similar fawning.
Close in time to these events was Good Morning America 's George Stephanopoulos sitting down in April 2013 for an interview with the first openly gay athlete in a major U.S. professional team sport, basketball player Jason Collins, and declaring what a privilege it was to interview him.
It's reached the point that Americans just can't escape advocacy of homosexuality now—it's everywhere!

Tolerance becomes intolerable

Regarding a more recent incident, WND.com (formerly WorldNetDaily) editor in chief Joseph Farah writes: “For a moment, forget 'same-sex marriage.' Forget the fact that so many television shows and movies feature sympathetic 'gay' characters … Forget that 'homophobic' is the new 'racist' slur. Think about … the headlines that a sports figure gets simply by coming out of the 'gay' closet.
“Today, when a 'gay' NFL [National Football League] draftee kisses his same-sex partner [on TV], he is congratulated by the president of the United States. That's what happened last week [in May] when Michael Sam became the first openly gay player drafted to the NFL … When other athletes pointed out the gratuitousness and impropriety of the moment, they were vilified —not just by 'gay' activists, but by the sports media” (“How Far the 'Gay' Revolution Has Come,” May 18, 2014, emphasis added throughout).
Retired player Derrick Ward, who said it was not good because children were watching, received death threats against him and his children. And Miami Dolphins player Don Jones, who tweeted “Horrible” after the incident, was banned from team activities and ordered to “undergo 'training' related to his comments” (Jesse Lee Peterson, “Michael Sam and the Death of Free Speech,” May 18, 2014). He was further forced to apologize.
“Remember,” Farah asks, “when the rhetoric of the 'gay rights' movement was, 'What I do in the privacy of my own bedroom is nobody else's business'? Today … the 'gay revolution' … has done a 180 and now believes what people do in the privacy of their own bedroom is everyone's business. It must be considered a heroic act when a homosexual tells the world what he or she is. Dissenters are punished. It was always cool to be an athlete. But now it is especially cool to be a 'gay' athlete.”
(The player in question, Michael Sam, ultimately wasn't considered good enough to be signed to the active roster of any of the 32 teams in the league. However, after the NFL apparently pressured several teams to give him another chance, one did sign him to its practice squad, allowing him to practice with the team but not play in games.)
In reply to the idea that tolerance should run both ways—that people should tolerate homosexuality but that homosexuals should tolerate the sensitivities of those who disapprove—MSNBC contributor Jonathan Capehart argued that “tolerance, no, is not—it should not be a two-way street. It's a one- way street. You cannot say to someone that who you are is wrong, an abomination, is horrible, get a room, and all of those others things that people said about Michael Sam, and not be forced—not forced, but not be made to understand that what you're saying and what you're doing is wrong” ( Last Word With Lawrence O'Donnell, May 12, 2014).
What these and many other examples show is that tolerance, as it has long been defined, is now in tolerable. Those who disagree with the proper politically correct positions must be discredited and marginalized, and their views increasingly criminalized!
We see this more and more with the proliferation of hate speech laws around the world—through which evangelical pastors have been jailed in some countries for merely quoting the Bible in labeling homosexual behavior a sin (see Leviticus 18:22-29; 20:13; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9). And young people in the country are being further indoctrinated with wrong thinking on this matter (see “The Gay Agenda: Coming to a School Near You “).

Court persecution of those supporting biblical values

Various government agencies and officials are forcing Christian business owners and employees to act against their conscience in providing services in support of homosexuality.
For instance, a New Jersey shore Christian camp was ruled against for violating discrimination laws when it wouldn't allow a gay civil union ceremony on its property. In neighboring New York a husband and wife were fined $13,000 for refusing to host a gay wedding on their farm, which they rented out for social events. Rather than face further fines, they chose to no longer host weddings on their property.
“A judge in Colorado said that a baker who refused to make a cake for a same-sex wedding ceremony must serve gay couples despite his religious beliefs, a ruling that a civil rights group hailed as a victory for gay rights” (Todd Starnes, God Less America, 2014, p. 66).
Likewise, an Oregon bakery that wouldn't bake a wedding cake for a lesbian couple came under a formal state discrimination examination and was eventually pushed by gay activists to shut down. The Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries commissioner said: “The goal is to rehabilitate. For those who do violate the law, we want them to learn from the experience and have a good, successful business in Oregon” (p. 69). How benevolent that the state is willing to rehabilitate and reeducate Christian business owners!
Similarly, “a family-owned bakery in Indianapolis was subjected to a city investigation after it declined to make cupcakes for National Coming Out Day” (p. 65).
“The New Mexico Supreme Court ruled that two Christian photographers who declined to photograph a same-sex union violated the state's Human Rights Act … Justice Richard Bosson wrote in the court's unanimous decision … [that] at its heart, this case teaches that at some point in our lives all of us must compromise, if only a little, to accommodate the contrasting values of others … [Despite Constitutional protection of religion] there is a price, one that we all have to pay somewhere in our civic life … to leave space for other Americans who believe something different” (p. 70).
Again, this tolerance does not extend to accommodating Christians' objections to what they believe to be immoral!
Syndicated columnist Star Parker draws a poignant comparison: “Would anyone question the refusal of a black vendor to sell sheets to the local Ku Klux Klan chapter? Or a Jewish merchant refusing to sell the poster board for a Neo-Nazi rally? Or refusal of a Christian video service to make a pornographic film?
“So why is it not perfectly clear that the religious freedom of a Christian merchant is violated if that merchant is forced to bake a cake or prepare a flower arrangement for a same-sex marriage, which is not only as personally repugnant to that vendor as any in the cases above, but is also a clear and literal violation of the scripture that defines the faith of these individuals?” (“'Gay' Agenda: A Cultural War Against Christians,” WND, Feb. 28, 2014).

Government enforcing homosexual agenda

The federal government is certainly fast-tracking the homosexual agenda—often in violation of constitutional liberties. Department of Justice (DOJ) employees were sent a brochure directing them to verbally affirm homosexuality. Not saying anything was not an option, as the brochure stated that “Silence will be interpreted as disapproval.”
DOJ Pride” stickers had to be posted in offices to show that this was a “safe place.” Employees were further told to avoid “offensive” phrases such as “gay lifestyle” or “sexual preference.”
“Christians are frightened and terrified of losing their jobs,” said Liberty Counsel founder Mat Staver. “You just can't keep your head down and do your job. Now you have to become an advocate for the LGBT [lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender] agenda—and if you don't, the DOJ will consider that to be intolerant” (quoted by Starnes, pp. 78-79).
Evangelical pastor Louie Giglio was pressured to back out of delivering the benediction at President Obama's second inauguration in 2012 when gay rights activists learned of a sermon he gave in the 1990s calling homosexuality a sin and stating that the “only way out of a homosexual lifestyle … is through the healing power of Jesus.”
Albert Mohler, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary president, said this on his website: “We now see the new Moral McCarthyism in its undisguised and unvarnished reality. If you are a Christian, get ready for the question you will now undoubtedly face: 'Do you now or have you ever believed that homosexuality is a sin?' There is nowhere to hide” (Jan. 10, 2013).
He went on to state the disturbing truth: “The Presidential Inaugural Committee and the White House have now declared historic, biblical Christianity to be out of bounds, casting it off the inaugural program as an embarrassment. By its newly articulated standard, any preacher who holds to the faith of the church for the last 2,000 years is persona non grata.”
With each passing year the situation worsens. Who would have imagined the U.S. Armed Forces color guard marching alongside rainbow flags in the gay pride parade at the nation's capital? It was “something never before seen on an American city street”—and yet it happened this year, authorized by the Department of Defense” (Aaron Davis, The Washington Post, June 6, 2014).
Every year Tel Aviv, Israel, holds the largest gay parade in the Middle East, but there was something new this year, according to U.S. Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro, who wrote on his Facebook page: “For the first time in history, the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv has raised the Pride flag together with our American flag. We are proud to join with the municipality of Tel Aviv-Yafo and its residents in celebrating LGBT Pride Week” (June 13, 2014).
Not content with transforming American society alone, the White House has directed the U.S. State Department and other government agencies to use U.S. funds to support international homosexual organizations, pressure other nations to change their laws outlawing homosexual activity, and support homosexuals who wish to seek asylum and resettle in the United States.
We see the same in other Western nations too. After Britain's legalization of gay marriage last year, British Prime Minister David Cameron called it “a great achievement” and said he wants to “export” how this was done, having the legislative team behind it “take it around the world” (quoted by Christopher Hope, “David Cameron: 'I Want to Export Gay Marriage Around the World,'” The Telegraph, July 24, 2013).

What happens to nations unashamed of sin

We should consider the attitude of ancient Israel and Judah, which worked to their national destruction—just as it is for America, Britain and the Jewish state today.
The prophet Isaiah wrote: “For Jerusalem stumbled, and Judah is fallen, because their tongue and their doings are against the Lord [this being part of the war against God] … The look on their countenance witnesses against them, and they declare their sin as Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to their soul! For they have brought evil upon themselves” (Isaiah 3:8-9). That is, the sufferings in their personal lives as well as the calamitous national judgment God brought and will bring again in the future.
In Jeremiah 6:15 and 8:12 God similarly declares: “'Were they ashamed when they had committed abominations? No! They were not at all ashamed; nor did they know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall; at the time I punish them, they shall be cast down,' says the Lord.”
No society that has seen widespread acceptance of homosexual activity has endured for long. It became widely accepted in the Greek and Roman empires and contributed to their moral declines and eventual collapse. Today one can walk among the ruins of those vanished empires and see where their collective choices led them.
Sadly, America, Britain and other modern Israelite nations determined to make the same mistakes and follow the same path to the same fate. Isaiah 3:12, speaking of todays leaders, says, “O my people, your guides lead you astray; they turn you from the path” (New International Version).

Hope through turning to God

Of course, God also says in Jeremiah 18:6-8 that He stands ready to forgive if and when people repent. In 2 Chronicles 7:14 He assures us, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (See also “Hope for Sinning Nations and Individuals “.)
Make no mistake—this is exactly what the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia and other leading Western nations need to do! And individually we need to pray for our leaders and people, that they will turn from rejecting God and humbly seek Him.
