Editorial: GOP punishes pro-American Representatives!

Editorial

The GOP leadership has punished its members who have voted against TPP for reasons including not wanting to give even more power to the current president, concern about the flow of LEGAL immigrants into the U.S., and concerns about losing even more of the American manufacturing base.

A reference on this is here http://www.vdare.com/posts/gop-house-leadership-purges-republicans-who-voted-against-obamatrade-and-theyre-all-immigration-patriots

Besides the relationship between immigration and the Trans-Pacific Partnership, this intra-Republican struggle has another connection to the National Question. Check out the NumbersUSA ratings of those Republicans who have been purged:
That’s right. Four Republicans with A plus ratings who just got demoted for taking the conservative stance.

Obama and Boehner not giving up on free trade bill -- Urgent calls needed today!

An interesting article from www.NumbersUSA.com about the TPA. This follows this post about Ann Coulter as a GOP strategist. This follows this post about drought and immigration. This follows this post on HOW amnesty is funded in ways other than the DHS. Remember, “Amnesty” means ANY non-enforcement of existing immigration laws! This follows this comment and this post about how to Report Illegal Immigrants! Also, you can read two very interesting books HERE.

Friends,
Last week the House of Representatives rejected an expansion of Pres. Obama's executive authority over immigration by defeating TPA -- the fast track trade bill. This bill would give him full authority to negotiate America's trade policy with foreign countries, including increasing the flow of foreign workers into the United States to compete with American workers for jobs.
But House Speaker John Boehner isn't giving up and is doing everything in his power to help expand Pres. Obama's executive authority!
Today, the House will re-vote on a standalone TPA bill that, if passed, could have a devastating impact on American workers and their wages. The vote is expected to take place at NOON ET today, so please call this morning!

Call Congress NOW!

Please dial the toll-free number above that will connect you to the Capitol Switchboard. When the operator answers, ask to be connected to Representative O'Rourke's office. You can use the following talking points when talking to the staffer.
I strongly urge Representative to vote NO on TPA, H.R. 2146, when it comes to the House floor for a vote today!

This bill would expand Pres. Obama's authority over immigration by allowing him to negotiate changes to existing federal law in free trade agreements. Supporters of this bill have refused to include language to prevent trade agreements from allowing new foreign workers to take U.S. jobs.

Please vote NO on TPA, H.R.2146!

Here's a chance to make your voice heard --  Tell your Representative to put American workers FIRST!

The United States gives new work permits to 1.5 million immigrants and other foreign workers each year -- not including those given to illegal aliens through Obama's executive actions. With millions of Americans struggling to find jobs, it's time to reduce these unnecessary foreign work visas and protect Americans.

First there was the housing bubble—over a year ago. Then there was the financial bubble—under a year ago. And now we are beginning to witness a third bubble bursting—a world trade bubble.

Trade figures appallingly down

The figures are alarming. For December 2008, Japan's exports were down by 35 percent; Taiwan's were down 42 percent; South Korea's exports tumbled 17 percent; and in January 2009, China 's exports were down 12.5 percent. Trade among emerging markets was just as grim, and the developed countries all suffered big export declines.
Now comes the news of the economic dire straits that Russia and some Eastern European countries are in. Nations such as Austria, Germany and Italy are also deeply exposed financially, due to prior lending to many Eastern European nations that now appear unable to pay them back.
The Wall Street Journal recently wrote: “The economic distress and currency tumbles in Eastern Europe will ‘trigger a write-down into the Western European banking system,' says Hans-Guenter Redeker, a currency strategist at BNP Paribas in London. ‘The question is how much.' He says a conservative estimate would be about 20% of the total invested by such banks in the region. Moody's estimated the total at $1.3 trillion at the start of 2008” (“Banks Reel on Eastern Europe's Bad News,” Feb. 18, 2009, online edition).

A looming trade war?

One should take note of what this can mean during 2009 if world economic production and trade continue to skid downward. Already, The Economist magazine is bringing up the possible consequences—a looming trade war.
The recent February 2009 U.S. stimulus program of $787 billion had some provisions of “buy American.” While this makes much sense nationally, if all the nations begin to turn inward, it will derail international commerce and produce an even bigger downward spiral.
In an article titled “Buying American” The Economist explains, “In 1929 Willis Hawley and Reed Smoot, two protectionist Republicans in Congress, sponsored a bill to raise tariffs to the highest levels America had ever seen. And in the midst of economic distress, the protectionists won. The result was a round of reciprocal tariff hikes elsewhere, and a disastrous collapse in international trade…
“[Now] House Democrats want to require that all iron and steel used in stimulus-funded infrastructure projects should be made in the United States…But American exporters fear retaliation against their goods, both in places like China, at whom the steel provisions are aimed, and in rich countries, which are already slipping domestic-purchasing requirements into their own stimulus packages” (Jan. 31, 2009, p. 40).

“Beggar thy neighbor” policies

This, in economic terms, is called a “beggar thy neighbor” policy. As each nation strives to stem the political distress over the dire economic situation, it begins protecting and heavily subsidizing its own industries and raising protectionist tariffs. This raises the possibility of a trade war.
The term “trade war” strikes a nerve in me. Over 30 years ago, I remember taking an economics class at college where the professor, an avid Bible prophecy reader, mentioned that the most feasible end-time scenario would be one where an international trade war begins the process.
We asked, “Why is that?” He answered, in effect, “Because it would disrupt the world economic system to the point where unemployment would reach unacceptable levels and nations would turn inward for solutions, hoarding the money for themselves and causing further economic decline. People would then demand that a different economic system emerge that placed jobs, security and order over freedom and a free-market system.”
This is precisely what happened in Germany in the 1930s, as the trade war and economic and political weaknesses helped bring Adolf Hitler to power and led to World War II.
For several decades, we have not experienced the devastating effects of a trade war. As long as nations continue to trade among themselves, each contributes to the welfare of the other and each can help prop the other up. But a trade war turns your economic friend into an adversary and much ill-will is generated. In a short time, a trade war can also lead to another type of war—of the military genre.

Possible scenario for end-time prophecy

In Daniel 7:2-3 Daniel 7:2-3 2 Daniel spoke and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove on the great sea. 3 And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another.
American King James Version×
, we read of four world empires represented as wild beasts emerging from the churning ” Great Sea ” (the Mediterranean Sea), indicating restlessness.
In Revelation 13:1 Revelation 13:1And I stood on the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads the name of blasphemy.
American King James Version×
, we also read of the emergence of a great power at the end time as coming out of the sea, possibly signaling that it comes out of something deep and restless. The apostle John said, “Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name” (Revelation 13:1 Revelation 13:1And I stood on the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads the name of blasphemy.
American King James Version×
).
This unexpected emergence from a restless society will certainly take the world by surprise.
We hope that the looming trade war does not materialize. But what can we do if it does?
In the short term, you can prepare financially for the present recession by reading our free booklets Managing Your Finances and Making Life Work . It is certainly time to get our financial houses in order. Also, you can contact trained ministers for help at our ucg.org Web site, under “Contact” and “Local Congregations.”
In the long term, we must be ready spiritually if the coming events lead to an end-time scenario. When we pray each day, “Thy kingdom come,” we are reminded that God is ultimately in charge of everything, and His Kingdom that is coming will solve all the world's ills under the righteous government of Jesus Christ. That is at least very comforting to know!

Christ's advice in eight points

Also, Jesus Christ warned, “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man” (Luke 21:34-36 Luke 21:34-36 34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come on you unawares. 35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 Watch you therefore, and pray always, that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
American King James Version×
).
We can break down Christ's admonition into eight points:
1. We need to first examine ourselves spiritually and see how we are doing before God.
2. We need to make sure we are not so absorbed in the daily cares of life that we aren't concerned about Bible prophecy. True, we shouldn't get wrapped up in Bible prophecy to the point that we forget to take care of our physical needs, but going to the opposite ditch is just as damaging.
3. We need to realize “that Day” is coming, whether we like it or not. To stick our heads in the sand like the proverbial ostrich is not a sound policy.
4. We need to realize that most of the world will be unaware of the coming of that Day, just as they were during Noah's day about the coming Flood (Luke 17:26-27 Luke 17:26-27 26 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. 27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
American King James Version×
). Noah, after all, was a “doom-and-gloomer” who got it right!
5. We need to watch world events to see the “fig leaves” (Mark 13:28-31 Mark 13:28-31 28 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near: 29 So you in like manner, when you shall see these things come to pass, know that it is near, even at the doors. 30 Truly I say to you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done. 31 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
American King James Version×
), or the signs appearing before “that Day.” That is the main purpose of World News vand Prophecy !
6. We need to “pray always.” Don't let down in your spiritual life—you need God's help more than ever!
7. We need to focus on the hope “that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass.” This means God has a way out for all of us from the coming world-shaking events—a place of safety He has promised for God's faithful people.
8. We need to remember the all-important purpose of our lives: “To stand before the Son of Man.” Christ has promised to return, and He wants us to humbly stand before Him. We won't be ashamed in “that Day” if we now put Him first in our lives and fulfill His work upon this earth—helping get the true gospel out to the world and helping to prepare a people for Him as He establishes His Kingdom of peace, love and joy.
So, as you can see, there is plenty to do as we continue to watch these disconcerting and unprecedented world events! WNP

Senate Vote Tuesday on Fast-Track Trade Authority -- Call today!‏

An interesting article from www.numbersusa.com about the TPP. This follows this post about drought and immigration. This follows this post on HOW amnesty is funded in ways other than the DHS. Senate Vote Tuesday on Fast-Track Trade Authority -- Call today!‏

Your two U.S. Senators need to hear from you today! Please call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121. See the red action box for more details.
Friends,
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has scheduled a vote for Tuesday on the fast-track trade bill that would give Pres. Obama and future presidents full negotiating authority over the Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade agreement.
NumbersUSA takes no position on trade bills in general, but we do ask for assurances that trade agreements don't make changes to existing immigration laws.
As pointed out in a 5-page memo drafted by Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala), past administrations have used fast-track trade authority to increase the number of foreign guest workers, extend the length of guest-worker visas, and reduce worker protections that cost American workers their jobs.
If Congress grants Pres. Obama fast-track authority, it forfeits its ability to amend any agreement, including provisions that could increase immigration levels. Please call your two U.S. Senators today!

Call your Senators
Please call your two U.S. Senators and urge them to oppose the fast-track trade authority bill, S.995. When the staffer answers, you can use the talking points below.
Capitol Switchboard -- (202) 224-3121

I urge you to oppose S.955, the bill that would grant fast-track trade authority to Pres. Obama. I believe Congress should retain its power to review and amend any trade agreement that the United States enters into, and by granting Pres. Obama fast-track authority, Congress would be giving up that power.

As Sen. Jeff Sessions from Alabama pointed out in his 5-page memo, free trade agreements have been used by past administrations to bypass Congress and make changes to existing immigration laws. Given this president's track record on immigration, I don't understand why you would want to give him such broad authority. Please tell the Senator to read Sen. Sessions' memo and oppose TPA.

We join unions, environmentalists and more in broad coalition against threat of anti-worker trade bill

An interesting article from www.numbersusa.com about the TPP. This follows this post about the GOP candidates. This follows this post on HOW amnesty is funded in ways other than the DHS. We join unions, environmentalists and more in broad coalition against threat of anti-worker trade bill

Updated:

by Roy Beck
We are opposing the corporate lobbies, Pres. Obama and Republican congressional leaders who together are trying to pass a Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) bill that would likely lead to cutting the American people out of future decisions about certain flows of foreign workers.
We have a chance for victory primarily because most Democrats in Congress appear ready to side against Pres. Obama and for American workers. We need to work to hold as many Democrats as possible while creating a majority against the bill by persuading enough Republicans to side against the corporate lobbies and for American workers.
We have sent notices to every Member of Congress that read:
NumbersUSA will score a vote for Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) as a vote against American workers.
President Obama has made it abundantly clear that he believes he has virtually unfettered authority to change U.S. immigration law. It should not be surprising, therefore, that his administration is attempting to use the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement to commit America to immigration increases that Congress has neither debated nor approved. Despite a U.S. labor force participation rate that is at its lowest level since 1978, President Obama wants to use the TPP to further reduce the jobs available to U.S. workers and instead reserve certain jobs for foreign workers under the agreement. It is indefensible that Congress would now consider surrendering even more of its authority over immigration to this President in order to fast track a trade agreement that will harm American workers, and the text of which Congress has not even seen. Therefore, NumbersUSA will score a vote for TPA as a vote for continued executive overreach and a vote against American workers.
Vote NO on TPA
Committees in both chambers are set to vote on this any day. A bill could arrive on the floor of the Senate and House soon after.
Why is NumbersUSA, an organization that deals only with immigration issues, involved in a complicated battle over trade policy?
Hundreds of organizations of all kinds of ideologies and interests (unions, environmental, national sovereignty, civil liberties, populist and more) are opposing the trade bill for many different reasons.
OUR REASON: The consequence of passing fast-track trade authority is that any President can much more easily ram through international trade agreements that expand guest worker programs without any public debate. [/b]
That's what happened under Pres. Bush during the five years he was given fast-track trade authority. His Administration secretly negotiated trade agreements that guaranteed the opportunity for other countries to send certain numbers of their workers to take U.S. jobs. Congress was not allowed to amend the agreements in any way. It either had to approve the whole thing or to reject it entirely and throw international trade concerns into a tizzy.
Once a flow of foreign workers is included in a trade treaty, that takes away the ability of future White Houses and Congresses to change those numbers. Instead of the officials elected by the American people having control over immigration and foreign-worker policies, international courts basically are given control over the work visas written into trade agreements.
  • Our Constitution gives Congress authority over how many immigrants and work authorizations to approve each year.
  • Our Constitution doesn't give that authority to the President, but fast-track trade legislation essentially does.
  • Our Constitution doesn't give foreign powers and entities the authority over U.S. work permits to foreign workers, but fast-track trade authority essentially does.
In 2007, Congress declined to renew the fast-track trade authority for Presidents, allowing it to expire.
In 2003 in reaction to the Bush Administration including immigration in trade agreements, Congress objected with a strongly worded resolution that was approved UNANIMOUSLY. The resolution began:

Resolved, That it is the sense of the Senate that (1) trade agreements are not the appropriate vehicle for enacting immigration-related laws or modifying current immigration policy; and
(2) future trade agreements to which the United States is a party and the legislation implementing the agreements should not contain immigration-related provisions.

The U.S. Trade Representative and the Executive Branch have been on notice since 2003 that they do not have the authority to negotiate immigration provisions in free trade agreements.
Nonetheless, the Obama Administration has been doing just that with the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement that is expected to come up soon.
Here is what was reported this week in The Hill newspaper:

TPP's provisions are largely secret but, according to Curtis Ellis of the American Jobs Alliance, the U.S. Trade Representative revealed that "temporary entry" guest worker visas are a "key feature" of the pact. Ellis said that Obama Administration previously used the U.S.-South Korea trade pact to expand the length of time a L-1 visa holder can work in the U.S. That pact is viewed as a model for negotiating the TPP.

NumbersUSA and its national network of citizen activists were often part of coalitions opposing the Bush abuses of trade agreements. And we were in the middle of pressures that led to the congressional pushback in 2003.
Remaining consistent, our network today is mobilized to stop Obama abuses of trade agreements that would guarantee that certain numbers of U.S. jobs may not be held by American workers.
