Report: Taliban Killed Civilians, Not US

A big hat tip from Sweetness and Light for this unreported story!!

Report: Taliban Killed Civilians, Not US
From the Marine Corps Times:
Kabul university students shout anti U.S. slogans during a protest in Kabul May 10, 2009. Several hundreds students from the Kabul university stage a protest against the recent civilian causality in Farah province by the U.S. air strikes, on Sunday.
Taliban held to blame in airstrike

By Trista Talton and Andrew deGrandpré - Staff writers Sunday May 10, 2009

Days before a May 4 U.S. airstrike allegedly killed Afghan civilians in Farah province, Taliban commanders met across the border in Quetta, Pakistan, to hatch a plot to turn Afghan public sentiment against U.S. forces, according to a military source in Afghanistan who is familiar with the incident.
By many accounts, their plan worked: Within hours of the airstrike, international media were reporting that upwards of 150 innocents, including women and children, had been killed. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and National Security Adviser James Jones, the former Marine commandant, both expressed sympathy for the loss of life.
But evidence now shows that many of those civilian casualties appear to have been killed by Taliban grenades — after the airstrike — in a blatant effort to drive up the number of dead and stir public resentment of U.S. military power, the source said.
The Taliban killed 30 to 40 civilians, according to the source. An official count has not been released pending completion of a joint U.S.-Afghan investigation.
Army Gen. David McKiernan, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, told reporters May 7, “We have some other information that leads us to distinctly different conclusions about the cause of these civilian casualties.”
Defense Secretary Robert Gates, speaking during a news conference that same day in Kabul, said he had seen such reports but that nothing was confirmed. Neither McKiernan nor Gates elaborated.
What went down
The stage was set for the bombing May 4 in Gerani village when Taliban fighters publicly executed three civilians they accused of aiding the Afghan government, the military source in Afghanistan said. The executions, he said, were designed to draw out the Afghan and U.S. forces operating in the area and ambush them when they arrived.
It worked. By midday, a convoy of U.S. and Afghan soldiers headed to the Bala Baluk district, a known Taliban stronghold in southwestern Afghanistan that is home to more than 100,000 Afghans. When they arrived in the village, they were greeted by dozens of Taliban fighters armed with AK47s, rocket-propelled grenades and Russian PKM machine guns, the source said.
A massive firefight ensued. Outnumbered, the American and Afghan troops called for additional support. A group of Marines with Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command responded, said Army Col. Greg Julian, a spokesman for U.S. Forces Afghanistan.
Once the Marines arrived, the fighting escalated substantially. Having identified several Taliban fighting positions, the Marines called in an airstrike, Julian said.
When it appeared that the Taliban were backing off, the air support was called off and the U.S. and Afghan forces returned to their bases.
Making sense of it all
Within hours of the fighting, the Taliban launched an aggressive information campaign, claiming that between 100 and 300 civilians had been killed, the source in Afghanistan said. Indeed, those figures have appeared in various media reports.
That’s where the Taliban commanders’ original planning session comes in, the military source in Afghanistan said. In advance of the battle, he said, they ordered Taliban foot soldiers to use grenades, if possible, to execute the civilians they had corralled into the compounds during the ambush, and then present their bodies to the villagers as “evidence” that U.S. warplanes bombed innocent civilians.
“In the chaos of a firefight, they figured no one would know the difference,” the source said.
Then the Taliban mingled its own dead with the civilians, to make the number of dead appear larger, he said. Taliban corpses were buried with the civilian bodies to give the appearance that they were part of the civilian death toll, the source said, adding that latest estimates put the number of Taliban dead around 50.
In Gerani, the lone gravesite contained 60 bodies “at most,” the source said, and an employee at the provincial hospital reported staff there treated 11 patients as a result of the fighting.
“If 200 people were killed, you would think there would have been a lot more wounded,” he said. “Even if 60 were killed, it seems like that would have been the case — unless, of course, most of those 60 people were executed … after the fact. Two hundred killed and 11 wounded? You do the math.”
Moreover, he added, intel suggest that some of the dead civilians had wounds consistent with fragmentation and bullet holes — rather than the burns and tissue damage commonly found on victims of a bombing.
During a meeting with coalition forces and Afghan government officials after the airstrike, villagers — some of whom were held hostage by the Taliban — confirmed that the Taliban rounded up some of the civilians and killed them, the source said. Most of the villagers understood it to have been a calculated plan carried out by the Taliban to blame the entire incident on U.S. and Afghan forces, he said.
This is not the first incident in which the military has rejected claims of mass civilian casualties resulting from U.S. airstrikes. Last year, following a series of investigations, coalition officials concluded that the Taliban killed most of the civilians who were claimed to have died as a result of an airstrike in Azizabad, a village in the Shindand district in Herat province.
In 2007, a company with MarSOC was kicked out of Afghanistan after claims that a platoon of Marines indiscriminately fired on and killed civilians following a suicide bomb attack on their convoy. After an investigation, Lt. Gen. Samuel Helland, head of Marine Corps Forces Central Command, determined the Marines acted appropriately.
Unfortunately this report will be ignored.
Indeed our media watchdog are still shouting from the rooftops that the US is accepting blame for these civilian deaths.
Even the US Marines can’t match the power of the Democrats, their lackeys in our media, and their terrorist allies.

A Texas City Begins Enforcing Immigration Laws

This article talks about laws that are on the books finally being enforced. When they are enforced there is continual resistance to them, as if laws that are written are not allowed to be enforced. (H/t www.vdare.com)

Irving Texas Succeeds In Deporting Illegals, Complaints Heard
Posted By James Fulford
Iconoculture, the marketing website which keeps highlighting [1] weird Hispanic cultural problems, has actually highlighted a normal American success story in Irving, Texas. Of course, from the point of view of illegal aliens, this success, in arresting and deporting illegals, is a cultural problem. The Iconoculture item is called [2] A Texas city gets strict, becomes divided on undocumented immigration.
Let’s make it clear that “divided” means divided between [3] loyal and disloyal Americans, and it also means divided between those who profit from illegal immigration, and those who pay the bill.
Here’s what the Economic Persons at Iconoculture have to say:
Like many communities, Irving, TX, has seen an increase in undocumented immigrants. A local law passed in 2007, allowing police to conduct immigration checks on everyone they arrest, is dividing the community, pitting Latinos and retail businesses on one side, advocates of strict immigration enforcement on the other, and the mayor in the middle.
The Dallas suburb enacted the policy to get rid of dangerous criminals who are in the country illegally.
But many of the 4,000 Irving residents who have been referred to the federal authorities are facing potential deportation due to minor offenses like driving without a license (NYTimes.com 4.4.09).
The bad thing about Iconoculture (aside from their attitude, is that they don’t provide either a link or a citation for their NYTimes.com reference–I’ll have to do it: [4] Texas Mayor Caught in Deportation Furor ,By Randy Kennedy, New York Times, April 4, 2009.
And driving without a license [5] isn’t a minor offence when an American does it. They put people in jail for that. You are statistically more likely to be killed by a Mexican with no driver’s license than you are by a terrorist.

Enemies on the Religious Left?

This is an interesting article about the current state of religion in America, and to a lesser extent, the rest of the world. This shows why even when people try and join a Christian church, they might not be furthering the Christian worldview. (h/t www.vdare.com)

Know Thine Enemy: The “Collaborators” Of The Religious Left
By Peter Gadiel
My parents were German—my father Jewish, my mother Protestant. Their families were strong supporters of the democratic Weimar Republic established after the First World War and were strongly anti-Communist and anti-Nazi.
In 1931, two years before Hitler came to power, my father, foreseeing the collapse of civilized government in Germany, persuaded his parents to emigrate with him. But his sister Lotte, a naïve woman who incapable of believing anyone could be so evil as to want to harm her, refused to join them in France until 1934.
My mother, a Protestant as yet unmarried, was not in danger and remained in Germany. But she refused to obey the ban on Protestants shopping at Jewish-owned stores until that became too dangerous. Then she slipped across the border to France in 1936. The very next day the Gestapo came to arrest her for her resistance to the "New Order." (Her mother was once saved from arrest for her anti-Hitler remarks only because neighbors lied on her behalf.)
In 1939, violating Nazi race laws carried the death penalty. Nevertheless, my parents married in France. When the Germans conquered France in 1940 they escaped again. They and many like them survived the War only because they could recognize evil, fought it as long as they could, and escaped when that became necessary.
But naïve Aunt Lotte refused to leave her village in what was now Nazi-occupied France, believing that as a law abiding German, no fellow German would bother her. She duly registered her domicile with Nazi officials and lived peacefully in the town of Bains Les Bains. According to neighbors interviewed after the War, she was very happy being able to speak German to Occupation troops, and they were very nice to her.
Then one morning before dawn in November 1942 the Krauts rousted her out of bed, sent her to the infamous transit camp at Drancy and, according to the Germans’ own precise records, on November 11, 1942 put her on Transport # 42 and shipped her to Auschwitz.
Nothing further of her is known, but from what we know of her it is likely she remained innocent and docile right to the moment she was herded into the gas chambers.
Aunt Lotte was a collaborator in her own death. Not actively of course, but—like millions of others—her refusal to wake up and resist allowed Hitler to commit the mass murder of which she became a victim.
In America today we’ve got a lot of Aunt Lottes, and the modern threat they refuse to recognize is the massive invasion of illegal aliens. But there’s an important difference between my Aunt Lotte and many of her modern counterparts: the latter aren’t just passive, they are militant activists in the promotion of this evil. They “collaborate” with this invasion, just as quislings all over Occupied Europe collaborated with the Nazis. Their collaboration has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of Americans at the hands of criminal aliens—including my own son, who died on 9/11—and the permanent physical, emotional and financial ruin of hundreds of thousands of others.
You’ll find these collaborators in control of the religious groups which form an essential part of the Illegal Alien Lobby. They include the United Church of Christ (Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s outfit); United Methodists; Quakers; Unitarians; Presbyterian Church; and, influenced by the radicals who have infiltrated its bureaucracy, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Catholic Church.
Sadly, among the collaborators are Jews, especially members of the liberal Reform Jewish organizations such as the Union of American Hebrew Congregations. Typical of these is the so-called "Anti-Defamation League" which mocks its own name by defaming as "racist" anyone who dares oppose illegal immigration. Considering the vicious anti-Semitism of the Moslems and many of the Hispanics taking advantage of our open borders it appears that these American Jews are just as eager as Aunt Lotte to conspire in their own disappearance.
These religious types are distinct from the cynical crowd in Congress, La Raza, US Chamber of Commerce, ACLU, or the Communist Party who support illegal immigration for reasons of financial or political profit. The people in these churches are Believers.
They, like Aunt Lotte, know only what they want to know. They do not care that illegal immigration results in suffering and death for innocent Americans as the result of violent crimes. They are fanatics who, having convinced themselves they are doing God’s work, feel entitled to ignore or justify the violence and death that results from following what they see as The Holy Word.
It used to be said that the Episcopal Church was the Republican Party at prayer. But study the website of the Episcopal Church and you’ll see that this should be updated: "The Episcopal Church is the Far Left at prayer."
Except for the God talk, these religious denominations are near clones of the ACLU, Center for American Progress, or MoveOn.org. Name the political issue and these politicized churches have a position on it and a lobbying effort nearly always identical to that of the Far Left. They have a fanatical adherence to this radical political agenda and the zeal to spread the Revealed Word through political activism.
Don’t take my word for it; look at their websites: United Church of Christ, www.ucc.org; www.episcopalchurh.org; Quakers, www.afsc.org; United Methodists, www.umc.org; www.uua.org; Union of Reform Judaism, www.urj.org; Presbyterian church USA, www.pcusa.org.
About that last URL: for if you type in "www.CPUSA" instead of "www.PCUSA" you’ll get the Communist Party USA instead of the Presbyterian Church USA. However, not to worry; the mistake isn’t serious, since on most issues there isn’t much difference.
On those websites under the letter "I" you’ll see "Immigration," or "Immigrants’ (sic) Rights." There you’ll see the Religious Left does acknowledge that the United States has a right to have borders, but for these people the full extent of that "right" is to put a line on a map; there appears to be not a single concrete step they support that would in any other sense create a border between the US and Mexico.
Increased enforcement? Nope, God’s against it. More Border Patrol officers? No; that’s against the will of God. A fence? No, God is opposed to walls. Denying to any illegal alien benefits such as access to jobs, housing etc.? No; the word from God is that this is wrong.
And they have it on good authority that God favors
amnesty for all.
It’s a curious thing. According to the ACLU, a kid can’t say his prayers in school, because that breaches the wall between church and state. However, the ACLU seems to have no concerns whatsoever about that "wall" when it comes to liberal churches lobbying.
We could dismiss these people as easily as Aunt Lotte ignored the forces of darkness that gathered around her. But to do so is just as dangerous for us as it was for her.
I can tell you from personal experience that these people lobby. They are lobbying Congress, the legislatures, the city councils, county commissions. They probably have their lobbyists at meetings of sewer commissions. And always for more benefits and "rights" for illegals.
Speak to the Religious Left of the victims of violent crimes committed by illegal aliens or "legal" aliens improperly allowed to enter the US due to the failure to enforce our laws (for example the 9/11 terrorists) and you cannot pierce the wall of denial, the faith that Open Borders are more important than the murder victims, the rape victims, the gang victims, drug distribution.
It matters not to them that real people are the victims of real violence by people from other countries. These Church people speak of "human rights" and "social justice," but by their actions they demonstrate their belief that these concepts do not apply to innocent Americans.
Until a few decades ago such a large percentage of Americans were members of these "mainline" denominations that their numbers made these churches an influential part of American life.
But those days are long gone. As radicals such as Rev. Jeremiah Wright of Trinity United Church of Christ assumed leadership positions and pushed the churches far to the left, membership fell drastically.
Still, though their membership in large part abandoned them for more conservative denominations the radical leadership inherited control of vast untaxed wealth provided by earlier members who would be appalled by the causes their money supports today. That money will remain the source of great power in the hands of the Jeremiah Wright as these churches recruit new members from among the illegal alien population they have helped to import.
Americans have a choice. They can either resist like, my parents. Or they can ignore reality like my Aunt Lotte.
We know what path Reform Jews and liberal Protestant sects are following.
Time will tell what the rest of America will do.
Peter Gadiel (email him) is president of 9/11 Families for a Secure America. His son, 9/11 World Trade Center victim James Gadiel (North Tower, 103rd floor), was 23 at the time of his murder.

Vdare Stories You won't get anywhere else

This website http://www.vdare.com/ is filtered out at most public computer places such as cafes and libraries. Some of them remove the filter if you ask though. Anyway, these stories are very much worth your time to read!!

Who Cares If MSM Dies? But There Are Stories You Won’t Get Without VDARE.COM—And It Needs Your Help
[Tonight! American Workers, Immigration, And The Displacement Disaster, by Peter Brimelow and Edwin S. Rubenstein. Only on VDARE.COM! Scroll to the end, PAUSING AT THE DONATE LINK (hint!)]
By Nicholas Stix
So as not to bury my lede:
It’s that time of year again—when we at VDARE.COM must pass around the hat to our loyal readers, without whose generous support we could not continue to provide the best journalism in America regarding all issues related to the National Question, as in: Will the United States of America continue as a nation-state, the political expression of a particular people?
With the death knell of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer sounding in February, as the paper’s staff sought donations to keep going, an SPI reporter argued that without the newspaper, stories would go untold.
If only it were so.
Without Establishment newspapers, readers would likely miss out on the following types of boilerplate:

Illegal immigrant sob stories;
Stories about the raceless victims of raceless criminals;
Press releases from big business, mercenary non-profits, and encroaching government agencies, which SPI staffers would write up to look like news stories;
Lindsay Lohan’s newest DUI arrest; and
White celebrities’ newest attempts to get positive publicity by adopting black African babies they have no intention of raising.

As a longtime, unapologetic newsaholic, I am not celebrating the death throes of the American newspaper. But American newspapers have no one to blame but themselves. Their refusal to do their job led to readers’ refusal to patronize them.
But if VDARE.COM shut down, vital stories really would go untold.
Let’s look at some of the countless stories that readers saw through VDARE.COM.

The Sailer Surge
In an election year, the media’s most vital job is to vet the candidates. In 2008, instead, in a display of media corruption for the ages, the Mainstream Media (MSM) acted as activists, operatives, and shock troops on behalf of one candidate, alternately stonewalling the public, race-baiting public critics, and even organizing a shameless campaign of vilification, including criminal acts, against a private person—Joe the Plumber Wurzelbacher—who had the temerity to criticize their champion.
And yet, long before Election Day, VDARE.COM readers knew more about the man calling himself "Barack Obama" than did most MSM journalists—because VDARE.COM had done the MSM’s job.
In 2007, VDARE.COM’s often intellectually hyperactive Steve Sailer focused his attention on that man like a laser, and wrote scores of columns and blogs explaining what makes "Obama" tick, culminating in the first VDARE.COM book, The Half-Blood Prince: Barack Obama’s "Story of Race and Inheritance," which came out in late 2008. http://www.vdare.com/half-blood_prince/
In a just journalistic world, Steve would have won his second and third Pulitzer Prizes this year – for biography (for his book), and for explanatory journalism for the continuing series he began last year, in revealing how the "minority mortgage meltdown" caused what he calls "the Diversity Depression" which will hopefully be the subject of Steve’s next book. (Steve’s first Pulitzer would have been for his pathbreaking work for VDARE.COM on "affordable family formation"—the public policies, such as immigration restriction, that would make)
Then again, of course, in a just journalistic world, there would be no call for VDARE.COM.
Wearing his hat as one of America’s leading science journalists, Steve wrote a three-part series on the crucifixion of Nobel Prize-winning geneticist James Watson.
Steve has even coined a phrase of broad methodological significance that encapsulates the MSM’s (and academia’s) anti-scientific thinking: "Occam's butterknife."
The "Occam’s Razor" rule calls for a scientist to devise the simplest possible explanation of phenomena in order to ascertain the truth. But politically correct scholars seek to avoid the truth by any means necessary. In spite of a world of group differences, they arrive at the pre-ordained conclusion that all groups are equal in every way and they give the most convoluted explanations imaginable for group differences in everything from education outcomes to mortgage foreclosure rates to crime. For instance, the science of intelligence easily explains group differences in testing and education outcomes. But since I.Q. science consists of what VDARE.COM has called "hate facts", I.Q. is ruled out—and all manner of circular and fantastical theories of "stereotype threat", "test bias", and "white racial privilege" are invoked instead.

Immigration and Gender

Over the past three or so years, VDARE.COM’s indefatigable Brenda Walker has been on a roll, writing on among other things, Third World immigration and the abuse of girls and women. Newsrooms and college faculties abound with thousands of feminists who jealously insist on a monopoly on all discussion regarding the protection of girls and women. But it is exactly these "feminists" who have betrayed both American-born and immigrant girls and women, and joined the War on the West. They have in effect joyously submitted to the misogyny of Third World, with happy talk of "vibrant", multicultural immigrants. Hence, if you oppose the importation of female slavery, the violent abuse of girls and women, including genital mutilation, honor killings, and a thousand lesser daily sexual degradations, it is to VDARE.COM that you must turn. (By the way, Brenda is working on a book on the foregoing topics.)
Some of Brenda’s stories:

"Dead Culture Walking: Muslim Colonization of Europe Should Frighten America" March 26, 2009
Canary in the Coal Mine: The Status of Women vs. "Diversity" February 18, 2009
"Diversity is Strength! It’s Also…Selling Your 14-Year Old Daughter?" February 05, 2009

Crime News
You might think that America had enough homegrown criminals of her own; VDARE.COM’s Brenda Walker has written hundreds of front page and blog reports on the growth industry of immigrant felons, especially the market niches of
slave owners and
homicidal drunk drivers
"immigrant mass murder syndrome", a term Brenda has coined to describe a phenomenon that didn’t exist in my childhood, when old, boring, undiverse America was enjoying a 41-year pause from mass immigration.
Thus when Chinese-Vietnamese immigrant monster Jiverly Wong aka Voong murdered 13 people at a Binghamton immigrant center early this month, the MSM approvingly quoted the local police chief’s inane condemnation of Americans as having "caused" the mass murder, supposedly through criticizing the English of Wong, who in 28 years here had never bothered to learn English. In "The Binghamton Massacre—Latest Case of Immigrant Mass Murder Syndrome," [April 05, 2009] Brenda was the first writer with the courage to state the obvious:
"…immigrating to a completely foreign culture is a vastly more disorienting experience [than leaving home for college or having child], where the possibility for failure is real and life-affecting….
Yet when a horrific immigrant mass murder episode occurs, the wrenching stresses created by multicultural immigration are never considered by the Main Stream Media or Washington legislators as a major cause. In fact, every other reason on earth is dragged out—particularly when the political agenda is to blame America, its people and the Second Amendment."
Over the past three or so years, the indefatigable Brenda has produced the equivalent of at least two excellent books on immigrant crime:
"Meddling Mexico Funds High-Priced Lawyers to Help Immigrants Get Away with Murder" September 11, 2008
"‘They Also Kill People In Your Town’: San Francisco Triple Murder Highlights Immigrant Crime Wave" July 31, 2008

To my knowledge, no journalist in America has done a more thorough job than Brenda Walker of chronicling America’s immigrant—legal and illegal—crime wave.

Crime and Race
Crime is clearly not a job that "Americans won’t do", but writing honestly about crime is a job that America’s MSM refuse to do, even though crime ranks up with sports in readers’ interest. Although interracial crime first exploded during the 1960s, and in recent years, black-on-white rape-torture-murder atrocities have become routine, the MSM’s response was to suppress such reporting, as a matter of conscious policy, and to race-bait anyone who does the job they have refused to do.
VDARE.COM’s editor-columnist-blogger-fact checker James Fulford has written a series of classic articles on this subject:
"Race, Relevance and the Public’s Right to Know," "Ann Coulter on Willie Horton, Joey Fournier—And What Life is Really Like", and "Hate Crimes, Real Crimes, and Relevance." James has even introduced the article category,"
not reporting race," which is not limited to crime stories.

I have written a series of VDARE.COM articles on black-on-white crimes and racial atrocities:
The Duke Rape Hoax,
Knoxville Horror,
Winchester Atrocity
the Anne Pressly rape-torture-murder

Environmental Reporting
The unfortunate people who depend on the MSM for information assume that "environmental" groups such as the Sierra Club (which until 1996 pledged its support for population stabilization), are fighting pollution, over-population, and to defend America’s natural treasures.
In contrast, VDARE.COM readers know the truth through Brenda Walker’s exposés, such as "Sierra Club Sellout Worse Than Ever." [April 10, 2008]
The environmental movement has been hijacked by the left wing of the Open Borders Lobby, and the Sierra Club was bought off for $100 million by hedge fund entrepreneur and Open Borders fanatic, David Gelbaum.
Conserving America’s natural treasures, such as her national parks, is a classic environmentalist concern. But here, too, the Sierra Club in indifferent. As Brenda has detailed in reports over the years, such as "Mexican Gangsters Converting America's National Parks into Gigantic Marijuana Patches," [November 13, 2008]
America’s national parks in several states, with Sequoia National Park in California the hardest hit, are increasingly being stolen and plundered by illegal Mexican immigrant drug gangs, the franchisees in El Norte of Mexico’s narcoterrorists. They have taken over large swathes of the parks for the cultivation of hundreds of patches of marijuana, turning them into no-go zones for Americans taxpayers, who pay for their upkeep, who are their owners. And not only are the narcoterrorists stealing our parks, but the environmental havoc they cause spreads to ten times the area actually cultivated:
"These Mexican marijuana messes are an ecological disaster. They are not innocent little plots that leave a minimal footprint. They are industrial grow sites, toxic stews where the gangsters use dangerous and illegal chemical herbicides, pesticides and growth hormones that result in long-lasting environmental damage."
The foxes are guarding the henhouse.
Due to sanctuary policies and de-policing, local parks are also being stolen and destroyed. In 2007, VDARE.COM’s Steve Sailer observed in "Report From Occupied America: Sunday in the Park with Jorge," [July 22, 2007]Los Angeles’ "public" Hansen Dam Park, which had been seized from the American taxpayers, and privatized by illegal aliens from Mexico who made no tax contribution to its support, and who wrecked it. They buried the grass in garbage and excrement, set fires that caused massive damage, brought in horses that were illegal, unhealthy, and extremely dangerous, in an area jammed with people and many small children, for an illegal trade selling rides for kids.

California’s Immigration Disaster—And America’s
VDARE.COM’s Joe Guzzardi was born and raised in California, but recently fled its dystopia for Pittsburgh.
His archived VDARE.COM columns paint a portrait of the greatness that was California, and the destruction, through runaway immigration, of the once Golden State. And following California’s, that of the country.
Joe G. also mans our sports desk, and has for years been our letters editor, a job in which he has been ably assisted by Kevin Lamb (who recently published a powerful, wide-ranging interview with historian Raymond Wolters).
Joe has reported on how the replacement of the American people continues apace in professional baseball and college sports programs. Who’d have thunk that even playing big time sports was a "job Americans won’t do"?
Joe also acts as the sole judge of VDARE.COM’s annual Worst Immigration Reporter Award, bestowed on the reporter who that year stood out among all the country’s shameless open borders shills. In 2008, Joe bestowed the award on the Wall Street Journal’s Miriam Jordan.
Public Health Reporting
VDARE.COM has led the way with the story of how America’s immigration disaster has reintroduced into the country diseases that had been conquered generations ago, such as tuberculosis. "Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor … Your Infectious Diseases?" by Edwin S. Rubenstein.

Quantitative Journalism
Quantitative analysis is so integral to journalism that the term "quantitative journalism" should be redundant. And yet, it isn’t. Most MSM journalists are innumerate, and hostile towards numbers. But in spite of their ignorance, they correctly intuit that for what they seek to wreak on American society, numbers are not their friends. VDARE.COM’s Steve Sailer and economist-statistician Edwin S. Rubenstein in his VDARE.COM column "National Data" are America’s two leading quantitative journalists.
One of Ed Rubenstein’s many contributions to journalism has been his "VDAWDI": VDARE.COM American Worker Displacement Index. With this he has for years tracked employers’ practice of supplanting American workers with (often illegal) immigrants who work under often horrific conditions, typically for a fraction of the wages the American workers earned.
Financial and Economics Journalism
Although VDARE.COM does not advertise itself as a site for economics journalism, it was founded by top financial journalist, Peter Brimelow, and has a brilliant stable of writers on finance on economics—Paul Craig Roberts, Patrick Cleburne, Randall Burns, et al., who have in recent years repeatedly either beaten out the MSM or academia or who break stories about which those moldering institutions engage in bizarre world propaganda. In addition to the aforementioned series by Steve Sailer, we have run:
Peter’s Brimelow’s Explication of Financial Corruption and the Minority Mortgage Meltdown; September 30, 2008
Takuan Seiyo’s "The Case of the ‘Disappeared’ Sub-Prime Borrower"; September 22, 2008
Randall Burns’ Revolutionary Work on the Economic Value of American Citizenship; and
Patrick Cleburne’s Devastating Analysis of the SPLC’s Finances. April 08, 2009 (VDARE.COM calls it the "$PLC")
And of course, VDARE.COM is without parallel in the field of immigration policy reporting, particularly the continued attempts by America’s elites to ram through a nation-ending mass amnesty of illegal immigrants.

The MSM
For its entire nine-year existence, VDARE.COM has been a thorn in the side of the MSM. VDARE.COM reported on the War on Christmas, and put the story on the map; the MSM recently denied that any such war exists. When a VDARE.COM reader complained a few months ago, to a Portland, Oregon-based reporter of propaganda she’d tried to disguise as reporting, she contacted his employer and tried to get him fired from his job. And just two months ago, the seemingly omnipotent yet near-bankrupt New York Times, working in tandem with the $PLC, published a series of editorials attacking VDARE.COM, its founder Peter Brimelow, and contributor Marcus Epstein by name. We’ve got them on the run!
About Our Readers:
VDARE.COM has some of the best readers around: Clever, passionate, and above all, well-informed, often through hard-won experience. And our editors treat them with the respect they deserve. They even treat the abusive ones, who deserve no respect, with decency. Some correspondents such as Scotland’s Martin Kelly, have graduated from getting critical letters published to writing supportive articles.
Contrast that with the MSM. I’ve spent hours researching and writing letters to major newspapers that were never published, while insane letters with fabricated facts from political fringe cases were.
It’s one of the ways, along with push polls, that newspapers construct a fraudulent consensus. And yet another reason why they are going out of business.

Our generous readers make our work worthwhile, and support us in every way imaginable. And it is to them we must turn, yet again, for material support. Please make a tax-deductible donation to The VDARE.COM Foundation, the 501(c)(3) charitable organization that sponsors VDARE.COM.
I thank you. And your posterity will, too.

Help FAIR Hold President Obama's Feet to the Fire‏

A very interesting article by www.fairus.org about Candidate Barack and President Barack's opinions on the issue of Immigration.

Help FAIR Hold President Obama's Feet to the Fire‏
While serving in the U.S. Senate in 2007, Barack Obama proclaimed that the U.S. needed stronger enforcement of our immigration laws on the border and in the workplace. However, since taking office, President Obama and his administration have shown an alarming trend away from enforcement and toward rewarding lawbreakers.

During the first 100 days of his administration, President Obama has:
Scaled back worksite enforcement;
Questioned the utility of REAL ID as a security measure;
Questioned the use of 287(g) state-federal cooperative enforcement;
Backed off completing the border fence as originally planned;
Opposed making E-Verify permanent and mandatory;
Opposed requiring the use of E-Verify as part of the Stimulus spending bill;
Adopted a "wait and see" attitude despite requests by several governors for support to secure our borders.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
In FAIR's 30 years of fighting for immigration reform, I know that these are clear signals that there will soon be a big push for a mass amnesty!
That's right, the opposition is already boasting of a $48 million campaign—financed by George Soros and the Ford Foundation—to promote what they call "comprehensive immigration reform" meaning amnesty for the more than 12 million illegal aliens who broke the law when they illegally crossed our borders.
There is precious little time and that's why I am asking you today to join FAIR and unite with us to HALT the mass amnesty lobby that puts the interests of illegal aliens ahead of those of legal U.S. citizens.
As FAIR continues to build a strong and integrated network across the country, FAIR members are crucial partners in all aspects of our work. If we don't stand up to special interest groups that push for amnesty, constantly remind our elected officials to address immigration problems, and continue to build public support for true immigration reforms, the Obama Administration will try to sweep an amnesty right under our noses.
That's why it is important that you join FAIR today.
Your support makes a difference.

What our President Should have read instead of Chavez's book!

This list comes from an article by Thomas Sowell of one of his reading lists. You can read his full article here http://www.jewishworldreview.com/cols/sowell071403.asp.

To review what misfortuned happened at the Summit of the Americas read here http://brianleesblog.blogspot.com/2009/04/barack-stick-up-for-us-also-please.html

A detailed account is William McNeill's "The Rise of the West," which is about more than the West and in fact begins with the earliest known civilizations in the Middle East. (Click HERE to purchase).

For those interested in the economic problems of less developed countries, there is "Equality, the Third World, and Economic Delusion" by Professor Peter Bauer of the London School of Economics. He spent years living in poor countries and more years trying to talk sense to the foreign aid establishment in Western nations. (Click HERE to purchase).

Once dismissed as someone outside the mainstream, Peter Bauer was part of the mainstream by the time of his death last year. He hadn't changed. The mainstream had moved over to where he was, after decades of bitter experience had proved him right.

One of the reasons for the many disappointments of foreign aid programs has been that some cultures do and some do not promote the kind of behavior that produces economic development. This is particularly apparent in a book on Latin America by Lawrence Harrison titled, "Underdevelopment Is a State of Mind." (Click HERE to purchase).

Institutions -- or lack of institutions -- can also hold back development. "The Mystery of Capital" by Hernando de Soto explores why capitalism works in Western nations but not in most non-Western countries. (Click HERE to purchase).

The non-judgmental notion that "all cultures are equal" is unlikely to survive reading "The Character of Nations" by Professor Angelo Codevilla of Boston University. It is a grown-up's demolition of childish ideas that have become fashionable in our times. (Click HERE to purchase).

Commentary: Embracing a trio of anti-American dictators won't advance U.S. foreign policy interests

A big hat tip to www.heritage.org for this article by Ray Walser about the Summit of the Americas to follow up this post http://brianleesblog.blogspot.com/2009/04/barack-stick-up-for-us-also-please.html

Commentary: Embracing a trio of anti-American dictators won't advance U.S. foreign policy interests

By Ray Walser The Heritage Foundation

The Obama administration says it's in the process of altering our nation's policies in Latin America. It promises modest steps to allow Cuban-Americans to travel more often, for example, and seems to be leaning toward further diplomatic overtures elsewhere. But "change" isn't always an improvement.

Simply put, now is not the time to return U.S. ambassadors to Bolivia or Venezuela or extend full diplomatic recognition to Cuba.

Begin with our ambassadors to Bolivia and Venezuela, both career foreign-service officers expelled last September on flimsy pretexts. President Evo Morales accused the U.S. ambassador of fomenting division in Bolivia. In Caracas, President Hugo Chavez swiftly followed suit.
An outspoken leader of Bolivia's coca growers, Morales once promised to become the United States' "worst nightmare." He's busily dismantling decades of U.S. drug cooperation and employing anti-U.S. rhetoric to consolidate his political power base. Until his government shows it's ready to lower its anti-American tone and conduct serious talks about coca production and control, a charge d'affaires in La Paz is quite capable of handling business.
President Chavez, meanwhile, sells the U.S. large amounts of oil. That makes Venezuelans good commercial partners. This aspect of the relationship works with or without an ambassador.

The problem with Chavez is his three-pronged strategy: 1) establishing a permanent Chavez-dominated political system in Venezuela; 2) developing a Latin American union to exclude U.S. interests; 3) fostering a global coalition of anti-American forces.

Even the most liberal American should blanch at the prospect of cozying up to a leader who literally hugs Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Sudan's Omar al-Bashir and proudly calls them friends.
It would be nice to push the reset button with Venezuela, but that all depends on Chavez. Given the mounting flow of cocaine through Venezuela, enabling the DEA to work with Venezuelan police would be far more important than installing an ambassador. Expelling leaders of the FARC (currently camped on Venezuelan territory) would be another positive step. Again, actions - not rhetorical overtures - would speed the return of an ambassador to Caracas.

Cuba, of course, stands apart.
Freedom House
www.fredomhouse.org calls it "repressive" and ranks it with Burma, North Korea and Sudan for its disdain of human rights. Since 1959, the Castro brothers have crafted a nation devoid of votes, free media, free speech or political opposition.
Earlier efforts to normalize relations with Cuba have always failed. Over the years, the island has: been a proxy of the Soviet Union, exported revolution to Central America, launched the Mariel boat lift and shot down unarmed Brothers to the Rescue aircraft. For a small, inconsequential nation, Cuba is adept at tossing sand in our eyes.
Only one party is allowed in Cuba. It holds some 200 political prisoners. Travel freedom, media freedom and labor freedom are denied. The Cuban secret police watch for any dissident.
Perhaps for some Americans, free speech and media freedom matters less now that Cubans are allowed to buy cell phones or own personal computers (without access to the internet, of course). Perhaps the press for "change" at home has driven the U.S. to offer stimulus to an economy that's in shambles and a regime that's out of ideological gas.
President Obama says his pace of reform will be gradual and is predicated on political change inside Cuba. Right now, though, any further loosening of sanctions beyond those announced on April 13 would be more likely to benefit the Castro regime than the Cuban people.
And since Presidents Morales and Chavez seem uninterested in talking through important issues such as cooperation in curbing the Andean drug trade, prevention of international terrorism or working together to improve the global economy, there's little hope we can improve relations. Sending ambassadors would only paper over differences.
In Latin America, "change" must begin at home.
