Although many try to explain away much of the militant teaching of the Koran, a straightforward interpretation of the following sampling of verses plainly demonstrates Islam's views toward non-Muslims, including authorizing jihad - holy wars - against them.

• "Fight against them until idolatry [worship of any god other than Allah] is no more and [Allah's] religion [Islam] reigns supreme" (Sura 2:193).

• "Let those who would exchange the life of this world for the hereafter, fight for the cause of [Allah]; whoever fights for the cause of [Allah], whether he dies or triumphs, on him we shall bestow a rich recompense . . . The true believers fight for the cause of [Allah], but the infidels fight for the devil. Fight then against the friends of Satan" (Sura 4:74-76).

• "Those that make war against Allah and His apostle [Muhammad] and spread disorder in the land shall be slain or crucified or have their hands and feet cut off on alternate sides, or be banished from the land. They shall be held up to shame in this world and sternly punished in the hereafter" (Sura 5:33).

• "Believers, take neither Jews nor the Christians for your friends. They are friends with one another. Whoever of you seeks their friendship becomes one of their number. [Allah] does not guide the wrongdoers" (Sura 5:51).

• "[Allah] revealed His will to the angels, saying: 'I shall be with you. Give courage to the believers. I shall cast terror into the hearts of the infidels. Strike off their heads, strike off the very tips of their fingers!' That was because they defied [Allah] and His apostle [Muhammad]. He that defies [Allah] and His apostle shall be sternly punished by [Allah]" (Sura 8:12-13).

• "[Allah] will separate the wicked from the just. He will heap all the wicked [i.e. non-Muslims] one upon another and cast them into Hell. These will surely be the losers" (Sura 8:37).

• "Let not the unbelievers [non-Muslims] think that they will ever get away. Muster against them all the men and cavalry at your command, so that you may strike terror into the enemy of [Allah] and your enemy, and others besides them who are unknown to you but known to [Allah]" (Sura 8:59-60).

• "Prophet, rouse the faithful to arms. If there are twenty steadfast men among you, they shall vanquish two hundred; and if there are a hundred, they shall rout a thousand unbelievers, for they are devoid of understanding" (Sura 8:65).

• "A prophet may not take captives until he has fought and triumphed in the land" (Sura 8:67).

• "Make war on them. [Allah] will chastise them at your hands and humble them" (Sura 9:14).

• "Believers, why is it that when you are told: 'March in the cause of [Allah],' you linger slothfully in the land? Are you content with this life in preference to the life to come? Few indeed are the blessings of this life, compared with those of the life to come. If you do not go to war, He will punish you sternly, and will replace you by other men . . . March on and fight for the cause of [Allah], with your wealth and with your persons" (Sura 9:38-41).

• "Prophet, make war on the unbelievers and the hypocrites and deal rigorously with them. Hell shall be their home: an evil fate" (Sura 9:73).

• "They [faithful Muslims] will fight for the cause of [Allah], they will slay and be slain" (Sura 9:111).

• "Believers, make war on the infidels who dwell around you. Deal firmly with them. Know that [Allah] is with the righteous" (Sura 9:123).

• "When We resolve to raze a city, We first give warning to those of its people who live in comfort. If they persist in sin, judgment is irrevocably passed, and We destroy it utterly" (Sura 17:16).

• "We have destroyed many a sinful nation and replaced them by other men. And when they felt Our might they took to their heels and fled. They were told: 'Do not run away. Return to your comforts and to your dwellings. You shall be questioned all.' 'Woe betide us, we have done wrong' was their reply. And this they kept repeating until We mowed them down and put out their light" (Sura 21:11-15).

• "When you meet the unbelievers on the battlefield strike off their heads and, when you have laid them low, bind your captives firmly. Then grant them their freedom or take a ransom from them, until war shall lay down her burdens" (Sura 47:4).

• "Mohammed is [Allah's] apostle. Those who follow him are ruthless to the unbelievers but merciful to one another" (Sura 48:29).

• "It is He [Allah] who has sent forth His apostle [Muhammad] with guidance and the True Faith [Islam], so that he may exalt it above all religions, much as the idolaters [those who worship gods other than Allah] may dislike it" (Sura 61:9).

Spencer: New York officials apologize for telling the truth

Yesterday afternoon Human Events posted my piece about recent shameful events in New York:

The mainstream media, led by the New York Times, and the Islamic supremacist Hamas-linked hate group the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) are doing all they can to whip up a frenzy about the NYPD’s showing of a relatively tepid but accurate counter-terror film, The Third Jihad, to police officers.

Lost in the hysteria is the question of whether there is anything inaccurate or false in the film – yet those who are demanding apologies and reeducation from the NYPD have demonstrated not one inaccuracy in it. No one who is protesting against this film is going beyond the claim that it is “Islamophobic.”

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg immediately apologized, saying that showing the film to New York police officers manifested “terrible judgment.” Police commissioner Raymond Kelly apologized also: “I offer my apologies to members of the Muslim community, in particular, who would find the film inflammatory and its airing on department property, though unauthorized, to be inappropriate.”

In a sane world, Kelly and Bloomberg would not be apologizing at all. They’d be saying, “Yes, we showed the film, and we’re going to keep showing it, and what of it? If the Muslims in New York are upset about it being inaccurate, let them demonstrate its inaccuracy by taking positive steps to fight in their own community against the stealth jihad activity that the film documents.”

For the whole controversy is predicated on the assumption that The Third Jihad is whipping up hysteria about a non-existent threat. In reality, it covers much the same ground that I cover in my book Stealth Jihad, in which I show that the agenda of infiltration and subversion on the part of the Muslim Brotherhood and its allied groups is very real.

In a captured internal Muslim Brotherhood document, Brotherhood operatives in the U.S. are told that they “must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and “sabotaging” its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.”

And at a Muslim event in California in 1998, CAIR cofounder and longtime Board chairman Omar Ahmad was quoted as saying: “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth.”

Nor are these isolated statements. Yet the initial New York Times article about the showing of this film, as well as all the coverage that has followed, was based on the assumption that no Muslim in the U.S. believes or acts upon such ideas. And the Times deplored that “at least 1,489 police officers, from lieutenants to detectives to patrol officers, saw the film.” Apparently they will all need to be reeducated.

Instead of considering whether or not the film is accurate, the mainstream media has scolded Bloomberg and Kelly for their failure to reach out to New York’s Muslim community. But here again, in a sane world, the Mayor and the NYPD would not be expected to reach out to the Muslim community and prove their good will. The Muslim community would be reaching out to the Mayor and the NYPD, eager to prove its good will. And the Mayor and the NYPD would be telling Hamas-linked CAIR that its counterterror cooperation was not enough, instead of letting this execrable Islamic supremacist Hamas front dictate New York City’s counterterror operations.

But now CAIR smells blood, and is going in for the kill. They’ve announced that Kelly’s apology was not enough, and are calling for his resignation. They’ve already succeeded, courtesy of Barack Obama’s compliant Justice Department, in eliminating any truth about Islam and jihad from national FBI training, and are now trying to eliminate it everywhere.

The outcome will be a cadre of agents and police officers full of politically correct nonsense that will render them clueless, complacent, weak and supine in the face of jihad activity. And so the jihad in the U.S. will advance unimpeded.

And so New York, by means of this controversy, is on the verge of taking yet another decisive step toward completely banning the truth about jihad and Islamic supremacism, thereby rendering New Yorkers, and all Americans, more vulnerable than ever to that jihad.

Rep. Black Introduces Immigration Bill Targeting Obama Administration's Lawsuits

Rep. Black Introduces Immigration Bill Targeting Obama Administration's Lawsuits

Representative Diane Black (R-Tenn.) introduced H.R. 3842, a bill that would stop the Department of Justice and the Obama Administration from pursuing lawsuits against Arizona, South Carolina and Alabama over their state immigration enforcement laws.

"While the federal government and the Obama Administration have failed to take any action, individual states have put forth measures that give law enforcement the authority to address the alien populations in their states- only to see the Obama Administration slap them with politically motivated lawsuits," Rep Black told The Daily News Journal.

Rep. Black continutes, "My legislation uses Congress's power of the purse to deny Eric Holder and the Justice Department the ability to use taxpayer dollars to fund these lawsuits. Congress must support every state's right to enforce the law and protect their own citizens without fear of retribution from the federal government."

In 2010, the Department of Justice filed suit against Arizona to halt the state's immigration enforcement efforts. Since then, DOJ has entered into lawsuits against eight other states.

H.R. 3842 is a companion bill to a Senate measure, sponsored by Senators Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), David Vitter (R-La.) and Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.).

"It's absurd that the Obama Administration, which has failed to enforce the nation's immigration laws, is now stopping South Carolina, Alabama and Arizona from taking commonsense steps to protect citizens and uphold the law," said DeMint.

Is God Pro-Life or Pro-Choice?

The abortion question examined from the Biblical point of view.

Confusion and misunderstandings often occur over the definitions of words and terms. What does "pro-life" mean? What does "pro-choice" mean? Let's consider these words from a biblical viewpoint.

To say God is pro-life is an understatement. God is the Creator, Sustainer and Protector of life. One of His Ten Commandments prohibits taking life (Exodus 20:13Thou shalt not kill.

God is also pro-choice in the sense that He created human beings with freedom of choice. He does not control us in a way that robs us of the freedom to choose our own way. Human life is an ongoing series of choices.

But choices are not all equal. There are wise and foolish, good and bad, and right and wrong choices. Some would have us believe that one choice is as good as another and merely a matter of personal preference. Such thinking is based on the idea that there are no absolutes.

But there is absolute truth. The Bible is God's revelation of ultimate truth. Jesus Christ said of God the Father, "Your word is truth" (John 17:17Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

See All...). The Ten Commandments summarize God's standards of right and wrong.

God doesn't force His standards on anyone. He does, however, reveal what is right, show some of the consequences for our actions and exhort us to choose what is right. But then He leaves it up to us to choose.

For example, God instructed Adam and Eve, forewarned them of consequences and allowed them to make their own choice—and then they paid the penalties for their wrong decision.

God inspired Joshua to tell the Israelites, "... Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve"—whether the false gods of the pagans around them or the one true God (Joshua 24:15And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

See All...). In Isaiah 65:12Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, and did choose that wherein I delighted not.

See All... God pronounces judgment on the Israelites "because, when I called, you did not answer; ... but did evil before My eyes, and chose that in which I do not delight."

For unborn babies, parents should choose life rather than death. Abortion is the wrong choice. God is pro-life. He abhors killing, including killing unborn babies.

The terms pro-life and pro-choice have taken on an additional meaning in many countries. Politically speaking, pro-life refers largely to people seeking legislation and the help of courts to outlaw or restrict abortion.

Pro-choice refers largely to people seeking the opposite—to remove restrictions on abortion. Though God is pleased with the goal of saving babies, one must be careful not to assume God approves of every pro-life tactic, especially when they involve physical harm or destruction of property. Nor should we assume He is behind every pro-lifer's efforts or various legal and political actions.

Legislation, you see, will not be the ultimate solution for the evil of abortion or any of the other evils of society.

What this world so desperately needs is a change of the human heart from selfish to selfless, from carnal to caring. What we need is a change from spiritual blindness to a clear understanding of right values.

Rather than a philosophy of hedonism ("If it feels good, do it"), we need to consider the long-term results of sexual promiscuity—rampant venereal diseases, broken homes, shattered relationships, drug abuse, suicide and, yes, the continuing slaughter of the innocents conceived from such unions. They have certainly done nothing that deserves one of the most nightmarish deaths one could imagine.

We desperately need to learn God's perspective of right and wrong. For most of mankind, this will not happen until Jesus Christ returns to establish His Kingdom on earth.

In all our thinking, God encourages us to choose life-life in general as well as the way that leads ultimately to eternal life. He tells us: "I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live" (Deuteronomy 30:19I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:

DR. CAMAROTA CATCHES THE PRESIDENT

WITH HIS ENGINEER STATS DOWN

This morning, I sent you an email with the amazing video of an engineer's wife asking Pres. Obama why he is bringing in foreign engineers when American engineers like her husband can't find a job.

The President found the question "interesting" because "industry tells me that they don't have enough highly skilled engineers."

The White House sent out spokespersons to defend the President by talking about how not enough Americans are getting engineering degrees.

My immediate question was: How many Americans with engineering degrees don't have an engineering job?

Amazingly just this afternoon, Dr. Steve Camarota of the Center for Immigration Studies has published a report that answers the question.

We will talk more about the meaning of these stats in the webcast. But chew on the numbers.

U.S.-BORN INDIVIDUALS WITH ENGINEERING DEGREES (under age 66)

(based on most recent American Community Survey by the Obama Administration itself)

101,000 -- U.S. engineers looking for a job who can't find any work at all

244,000 -- U.S. engineers who have dropped completely out of the labor market

1,470,000 -- U.S. engineers who are working but no longer as engineers

1.8 million -- Total U.S.-born individuals under the age of 66 who have engineering degrees but don't have an engineering job

There is a lot to say about all those numbers. But one thing that can't be said is that the United States doesn't "have enough highly skilled engineers" among its own citizens.

These numbers were compiled by Pres. Obama's own staff. But he apparently never thought to check on the facts. He was perfectly willing -- just like most Republican leaders -- to simply take the word of the business elites with whom he hobnobs when they claim they have to have more foreign engineers.

Who Was Jesus? Why is he called the "Son of God"?

Who Was Jesus?

While Jesus was human in the fullest sense, He was also more than simply human—for He was, in fact, the divine Son of God with all that name implies. Indeed, as we have seen, He was the Creator God made flesh. And when His human life was over, He returned to the divine glory He shared with the Father from eternity past.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Except perhaps for the book of Hebrews, the Gospel of John gives the most complete explanation in the New Testament about the divinity of Jesus Christ. As previously noted, verses 1-3 and 14 of John 1 clearly explain that the Word was God and dwelt with the Father until He later became the Messiah or Christ, meaning "Anointed One."

As British scholar F.F. Bruce commented regarding Jesus: "The New Testament indicates that he existed before he lived on earth as a historical character. We are thus encouraged to ask not only, 'What was the mode of this earlier existence of his?' ... but also, 'What is he said to have done in that earlier existence?'" ( Jesus Past, Present and Future: The Work of Christ, 1979, pp. 11-12).

As The New Bible Commentary: Revised explains about the opening passage of John's Gospel: "In the prologue the pre-existence and deity of Christ are expressed explicitly. The Logos [the Greek term rendered 'Word' here] was not only with God in the beginning, but was God (1:1), and it was this Logos who became flesh and is identified with Christ" (p. 928).

Several other passages in John's Gospel reveal significant details that help us understand even more fully. Consider an account later in chapter 1: "The next day John [the Baptist] saw Jesus coming toward Him, and said, 'Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! This is He of whom I said, "After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me"'" (verses 29-30; compare verse 15).

John the Baptist was born before Jesus (Luke 1:35-36 [35] And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

[36] And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.

See All..., 57-60) and began his ministry before Christ began His. Yet John still said of Jesus, "He was before me." Why? Considering the whole of John 1, the reason must be that Jesus was the preexistent Word prior to His human birth (John 1:14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

His existence before Abraham

In dealing with accusations from the Pharisees in John 8, Jesus said to them, "Even if I bear witness of Myself, My witness is true, for I know where I came from [beside the Father in heaven] and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from and where I am going" (verse 14).

Later the apostle Paul commented on their lack of understanding: "The people of Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognize Jesus, or understand the words of the prophets which are read sabbath by sabbath; indeed, they fulfilled them by condemning him" (Acts 13:27For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.

Just as in the first century, relatively few people today truly comprehend who Jesus was, where He came from, what He is doing and what He will yet do.

Later in John 8, the Jews gathered about Jesus asked Him, "Who do You make Yourself out to be?" (verse 53). They simply had no idea of the real identity of the One with whom they were speaking. It is the same today. Few people really understand the true origins of Jesus Christ.

He patiently explained, "Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad" (verse 56). But how was this possible? The patriarch Abraham lived around 2,000 years before Jesus' birth. So those who heard Him challenged, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?" (verse 57). To this question Jesus gave a stunning response: "Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM" (verse 58).

We should pause for a moment to digest what Jesus said.

He was declaring that His existence preceded that of Abraham. Moreover, the phrase "I AM" was a well-known title of divinity to the Jews. This goes back to Moses' first encounter with God at the burning bush.

A crucial encounter with Moses

Moses was concerned about how the Israelites would receive him and the commission God gave him, so he asked God, "Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they say to me, 'What is His name? What shall I say to them?'" (Exodus 3:13And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?

Observe the Creator's reply: "And God said to Moses, 'I AM WHO I AM.' And He said, 'Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you'" (Exodus 3:14And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

Note also the next verse: "Moreover God said to Moses, 'Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: "The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations" (verse 15).

As is common throughout most English translations of the Old Testament, the word "Lord" here with capital letters is substituted for the Hebrew consonants Y-H-W-H (commonly known as the Tetragrammaton, meaning four letters). No one today knows for certain how to pronounce this name, but the most common pronunciation now is Yahweh. (A common, though errant, earlier rendering was Jehovah .)

The name YHWH is similar in meaning to "I AM" (Hebrew EHYH or Eheyeh ). Both imply eternal, self-inherent existence (compare John 5:26For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;

See All...). No one created God. We should understand that He has many names in Scripture, each of which tells us something about His wonderful, divine nature and character.

Given this background, therefore, when Jesus said in John 8:58Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

See All... that He preceded Abraham and referred to Himself with continuous existence using the term "I AM," there really should be no doubt as to just what He meant. The Jews well knew what He meant, which is why they immediately tried to stone Him to death (verse 59). Jesus was saying that He was the very God of Israel.

Who was the God of the Old Testament?

The fact is, Jesus Christ is the "I AM"of the Bible. He was the guiding Rock who was with the children of Israel in the wilderness when they left Egypt (see Deuteronomy 32:4He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

Paul wrote: "Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed [accompanied] them, and that Rock was Christ" (1 Corinthians 10:1-4 [1] Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

[2] And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

[3] And did all eat the same spiritual meat;

The "I AM"of the Old Testament is further described as abounding in "goodness and truth" (Exodus 34:6And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,

There are, it should be noted, places in the Old Testament where YHWH clearly refers to God the Father. For instance, in Psalm 110:1(A Psalm of David.) The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

See All..., which we've noted earlier, King David stated, "The Lord [ YHWH ] said to My Lord . . ." YHWH here is the Father speaking to David's Lord, the One who became Jesus Christ. Often, however, the name YHWH refers to the One who became Christ—and sometimes it refers to both the Father and Christ together, just as the name God often does.

Consider that except for Jesus, no human being has ever seen the Father (John 1:18No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

Christ later died for our sins and became the ultimate mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

See All...), a role He had already partially fulfilled as the preexistent Word before His human birth.

So the Word was indeed the God of the Old Testament—and yet the Father fulfilled this role in a very real sense as well. For Jesus dealt with mankind on the Father's behalf as His Spokesman (compare John 8:28Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

See All...; 12:49-50). Moreover, in many passages in the Old Testament it can be difficult to separate these two great personages, whereas the New Testament is usually clear in this respect.

Of course, since Jesus came to reveal the Father (Matthew 11:27All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

See All...), the logical conclusion is that the Father was not generally known by those in Old Testament times except for a few of the Hebrew patriarchs and prophets. King David, for example, is one who understood.

Partially quoted earlier, Hebrews 1:1-2 [1] God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

In this opening passage of the book of Hebrews the clear implication is that the Father is the moving force behind the whole Old Testament. In context, verse 2 interprets verse 1. Though God the Father is the prime mover behind the Hebrew Bible, it is through Jesus Christ that He created the entire universe.

Jesus—both God and man

Jesus Christ today is the mediator between God the Father and man. But to perfectly fulfill that crucial role He had to have been both God and man. He was truly a man in every sense of that word or we have no salvation from our sins. The apostle Paul calls Him "the Man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Paul tells us, in a verse quoted earlier from a different translation, that we should have the same humble, serving attitude of Jesus Christ, "who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped [i.e., held onto], but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross" (Philippians 2:6-8, New American Standard Bible).

Jesus' manhood was full and complete in the sense that He lived a life as a physical human being that ended in death. He became hungry and ate, grew tired and rested, and walked and talked just like any other human being. There was nothing in His physical appearance to distinguish Him from other Jewish men

of His time (Isaiah 53:2For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

The essential difference was in the realm of the spiritual. Jesus continually received needed spiritual power from the Father (compare John 5:30I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

See All...; 14:10). In fact, He possessed God's Spirit from conception, actually being begotten in Mary's womb through the Holy Spirit. Although tempted like every one of us, Jesus never transgressed God's law. He never once sinned (Hebrews 4:15For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

One of the most insidious heresies in the 2,000-year history of Christendom is that Jesus Christ was not really a man—that He was not really tempted to sin. The apostle John condemned this teaching in the strongest terms (1 John 4:3And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

This heresy began in the first century and it persists even today, continuing to lead people away from the truth of God. We need to recognize that if Jesus had not really been human, then His sacrifice for our sins would be null and void.

The Son of Man and the Son of God

Jesus Christ is called "the Son of Man" more than 80 times in the New Testament. It was the term He most commonly used in referring to Himself.

Christ repeatedly referred to Himself as the Son of Man in connection with His sufferings and sacrificial death for the sins of mankind (Matthew 17:22And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:

See All...; 26:45; Mark 9:31For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.

See All...; 14:41). Although of divine origin, He deliberately identified with our human plight—the sorrows and sufferings of the human race. The prophet Isaiah foresaw Him as "a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief" (Isaiah 53:3He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Sympathizing with our human frailties and difficulties, Jesus tells us: "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light" (Matthew 11:28-30 [28] Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

See All...). They replied by recounting several commonly held but erroneous beliefs about Jesus' identity. Simon Peter responded by saying, "You are the Christ [the Messiah], the Son of the living God" (verse 16). Jesus observed that the Father Himself had revealed this wonderful truth to Peter (verse 17). And all of His apostles came to recognize the same truth, which is reiterated elsewhere in the New Testament (Matthew 14:33Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

Report: American Bible translators bowdlerize scriptures to avoid offending Muslims: no "Father" and "Son"

If this is true, for the parties they are trying not to offend, anything short of Islam -- of professing that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is his messenger -- would be "offensive." This is not making Christianity more palatable. It is de-Christianizing it. It is manufacturing yet another Christian heresy.

Indeed, for many denominations, the validity of baptism depends on the words used: "I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." No euphemisms, no nicknames: for example, trial balloons aiming to portray a more gender-neutral God have already been burst: the use of "Creator, Redeemer, and Sanctifier" in baptism has been rejected by the Catholic Church, if not others.

Those who truly believe they are winning souls for Christ would not risk the validity of baptism, and those who are genuinely convinced that they possess the truth will not apologize or worry it is offensive.

As a technical matter, one wonders how the translators handle the words: "Who is a liar but he that denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denies the Father and the Son" (1 John 2:22). And "But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 10:33).

"'Father' and 'Son' Ousted from the Trinity in New Bible Translations," by Hussein Hajj Wario for the Yahoo! Contributor Network, January 27 (thanks to CGW):

A controversy is brewing over three reputable Christian organizations, which are based in North America, whose efforts have ousted the words "Father" and "Son" from new Bibles. Wycliffe Bible Translators, Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) and Frontiers are under fire for "producing Bibles that remove "Father," "Son" and "Son of God" because these terms are offensive to Muslims." Concerned Christian missionaries, Bible translators, pastors, and national church leaders have come together with a public petition to stop these organizations. They claim a public petition is their last recourse because meetings with these organizations' leaders, staff resignations over this issue and criticism and appeals from native national Christians concerned about the translations "have failed to persuade these agencies to retain "Father" and "Son" in the text of all their translations."

Clearly, they fail to appreciate the far-reaching ramifications that Christians not only may dare, but are commanded to call on the Creator of the Universe as "Father." That fundamentally re-wires one's relationship with God and describes a unique intimacy and bond of love that ought not be squandered to score short-term points.

Biblical Missiology, a ministry of Boulder, Colorado-based Horizon International, is sponsoring the petition.

The main issues of this controversy surround new Arabic and Turkish translations. Here are three examples native speakers give:

First, Wycliffe and SIL have produced Stories of the Prophets, an Arabic Bible that uses an Arabic equivalent of "Lord" instead of "Father" and "Messiah" instead of "Son."

Second, Frontiers and SIL have produced Meaning of the Gospel of Christ , an Arabic translation which removes "Father" in reference to God and replaces it with "Allah," and removes or redefines "Son." For example, the verse which Christians use to justify going all over the world to make disciples, thus fulfilling the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19) reads, "Cleanse them by water in the name of Allah, his Messiah and his Holy Spirit" instead of "baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." Rev. Bassam Madany, an Arab American who runs Middle East Resources, terms these organization's efforts as "a western imperialistic attempt that's inspired by cultural anthropology, and not by biblical theology."

Third, Frontiers and SIL have produced a new Turkish translation of the Gospel of Matthew that uses Turkish equivalents of "guardian" for "Father" and "representative" or "proxy" for "Son." To Turkish church leader Rev. Fikret Böcek, "This translation is 'an all-American idea' with absolutely no respect for the 'sacredness' of Scripture, or even of the growing Turkish church."

SIL has issued a public response stating "all personnel subscribe to a statement of faith which affirms the Trinity, Christ's deity, and the inspiration of Scripture." However, in the same statement, which is similar to Wycliffe's, it claims "word-for-word translation of these titles would communicate an incorrect meaning (i.e. that God had physical, sexual relationships with Mary) [sic]," thus justifying substituting "Father" and "Son" in new translations. Calls and emails to Wycliffe and SIL to clarify their positions were not returned. Frontiers responded to calls with articles that critics have already dismissed as skirting omissions of "Father" and "Son" in new Bible translations.

The point about sexual connotations is baloney. Many of these countries have, or once had indigenous Christian populations with scriptures in indigenous languages where this was not a problem. If they're coming up with something untoward, they need better translators.

Are you aware that the U.S. Census Bureau counts illegal aliens when determining how many seats in Congress a state should receive? That means states with large illegal alien populations are now receiving a disproportionate amount of seats in Congress and therefore more power in establishing national policy.

Judicial Watch is now involved in a high-stakes legal campaign to put a stop to this unconstitutional policy.

Recently, we filed an amicus curiae brief with the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of the State of Louisiana challenging the current federal policy in which “unlawfully present aliens” were counted in the 2010 Census (Louisiana v. Bryson).

The government used these census numbers to reapportion seats in the House of Representatives and, as a result, the State of Louisiana lost a House seat to which it was entitled. Louisiana is asking that the Supreme Court order the federal government to recalculate the 2010 apportionment of House seats based upon legal residents as the U.S. Constitution requires.

Judicial Watch, in partnership with the Allied Educational Foundation (AEF), filed the brief on January 13, 2012, in a lawsuit filed by the State of Louisiana against John Bryson, U.S. Secretary of Commerce; Robert Groves, Director of the U.S. Census Bureau; and Karen Lehman Hass, Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Here’s a brief excerpt from our amicus:

Amici are concerned about the failure to enforce the nation’s immigration laws and the corrosive effect of this failure on our institutions and the rule of law. Among the problems caused by this failure is a redistribution of seats in the U.S. House of Representatives to States with large populations of unlawfully present aliens.

Amici respectfully submit that neither Article I Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution, the Fourteenth Amendment, or any other provision of the Constitution authorize or permit the inclusion of unlawfully present aliens in the apportionment process. As a result, this case raises issues critical not just to Louisiana, but to every State, every American citizen, and our federal system of government.

Judicial Watch argues that, due to this Census Bureau policy, at least five states will lose House seats to which they are entitled.

For example, based upon the Census Bureau’s calculation, Louisiana is being allocated only six House seats, as opposed to the seven that it would have been apportioned, were it not for the inclusion of illegal aliens and “non-immigrant foreign nationals,” which encompasses holders of student visas and guest workers. The brief also notes that the “apportionment, in turn, determines the apportionment of electors in the Electoral College for the next three presidential elections.”

It is the contention of the State of Louisiana, Judicial Watch, and AEF that “the policy of counting unlawfully present aliens in the nation’s decennial census is unconstitutional and undermines both our federal system of government and our democratic institutions,” and is the “direct result of the failure to enforce our nation’s immigration laws.”

In other words, the U.S. Census is distorting the democratic process.

And the problem is only going to get worse considering the Obama administration’s hostility to enforcing illegal immigration laws, which is causing greater numbers of illegal aliens to flood into the country. You can see how that this failure to enforce immigration law undermines a foundational aspect of our democracy. We are pleased to join with the Allied Educational Foundation to file this amicus curiae brief in support of the State of Louisiana and the rule of law. And we hope the Supreme Court takes up this historic case and vindicates the right of American citizens to have full representation in Washington.

Please work hard this week to warn your listeners of the impending votes on the unconstitutional gerrymandering in Texas which would set the stage for millions of American students, workers, and voters to be displaced and replaced by illegal aliens granted legal status.

Who Cares?

Are you feeling unnoticed? Feeling like no one cares whether you exist or not?

Source: Jarand BogeOften times we can be overcome with the emotion of a situation, the stress of daily life, the trials that we have to face, or the disheartening news of society. We ask ourselves, “Who really cares for me and the circumstance that I am going through?” We wonder if anyone notices what is happening in our world. Too often during these times we forget just how much God and Jesus really care for us.

We know that we worship a God who, along with His Son, has a wonderful plan for expanding their family. A plan that offers hope and salvation through the supreme sacrifice of Christ that covered the penalty for each of our sins individually. But beyond that plan and the ultimate sacrifice, what other ways does God show us He cares?

Jesus’ example on earth

While Jesus was suffering for all of humanity, dealing with the emotional and physical torment of His crucifixion, He set an example for us as He cared for His physical mother. We read in John 19:26When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

See All..., (King James Version throughout) “When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman , beholdthy son!” During that time, the eldest son was responsible for providing for his parents. A widow would be dependent on her son for support and protection. Jesus recognizes that His death would leave Mary dependent on others, and He takes the time to make sure she will be cared for.

How often have we used a trial or a time of suffering to excuse ourselves from expressing love to another? We can get so focused inwardly on our own needs that we forget to notice the needs of others around us. It is at this time that often true healing can occur, when at our weakest moments we show love and care for others.

The details

Life can be demanding; we have numerous responsibilities, commitments, tasks, and chores. We go about the day, perhaps without realizing how intense the care is that God has for us. We are told in Luke 12:7But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.” I know that I have no idea how many hairs I lose on a given day, but God tells me that at any given point He knows how many are on my head, and not only my head but every person on the earth. What a truly awesome level of care and concern that God and Christ show towards us.

Jesus still cares

We see another example of the care that God and Jesus show to us in the story of the stoning of Stephen. We are told Stephen is a faithful man, and at the time of his martyrdom, Stephen was given a vision of God and Jesus in heaven (Acts 7:55-56 [55] But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, [56] And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

See All...). What an amazing example of care to encourage Stephen at a time of great despair and anguish with a vision of the hope that was the foundation of his faith.

It can be noted that Jesus sits at the right hand of God. “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the righthandof the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

See All...). However, in the vision of Stephen Christ is standing. “And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God” (Acts 7:56And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

See All...). Was this a demonstration of Christ’s caring effort to encourage Stephen? Possibly.

Called to care

As we live our lives and strive to be like our older Brother and coming King, perhaps we can take these examples and try to mimic the care and concern that Jesus has. Take the time to really listen to others; try to understand the difficulties someone else may be facing and find a way you can lessen their burden or encourage them. It always amazes me how the little things that we do for each other can totally turn someone’s day around, such as holding a door, lending a dime, picking up something someone has dropped, smiling, or sending a card or flowers. Then sit back and watch the attitude difference that a simple action can make.

We are told that we are to show love to each other, preferring and honoring each other; “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherlylove; in honour preferring one another” (Romans 12:10Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

Wknd Box Office: The Grey, Man on a Ledge, Albert Nobbs, Pina, One for the Money

I actually liked two of the new movies, this weekend, not the usual for January, which along with August is the Pet Cemetery of movies, where Hollywood sends cinematic crap to die.

* “The Grey“: This stars Liam “I’m considering converting to Islam” Neeson. But other than that, I liked it. It’s very realistic, very bleak, very dark. But it’s the kind of adventure-filled, man-versus-the-wild (and the elements) movie that I enjoy. And there is a spiritual, religious (Christian, NOT Muslim) aspect to it.

A group of men who work on an oil-drilling team are in a plane, which crashes in the middle of the tundra. They must fight off wolves and extreme cold and hunger to survive. Neeson becomes their self-appointed leader and authority on survival, after initially considering committing suicide back at the oil drilling camp before they ever board their plane “home.” There are many scenes with wolves, and there is, predictably, death and destruction. It’s somewhat grisly, so do not send your kids. It’s rated R for a reason.

If there’s one drawback, it’s the gratuitous and subtle slap at corporate America and the rich: every rich guy and executive dies upon impact, and only the working-class laborers carry on, trying to survive.

If you see this, make sure you stay through the credits, or you’ll miss the “stinger,” an added scene that shows it isn’t over when you thought it was.

And remember, if you do go see this, you might be contributing to Mr. Neeson’s future zakat [Islamic "charity] fund. We don’t live in a vacuum, and these things matter.

TWO-AND-A-HALF REAGANS

* “Man on a Ledge“: This is another movie that I liked, but for its slap at corporate titans and class warfare. The villain is a very wealthy CEO. The hero is working-class.

Handsome Australian actor Sam Worthington plays a New York cop who is sentenced to prison and stages an escape. Then, he checks into New York’s Roosevelt Hotel and goes out on the ledge, requesting the cop played by the beautiful Elizabeth Banks to be the negotiator to prevent him from jumping. While this is going on, there is a connected caper taking place. And it all ties together. I enjoyed this mostly original concept, until the ending feat, which simply isn’t believable, nor is Worthington’s accent as a New York working-class cop of Irish heritage (his Australian accent comes through loud and clear at times). But, overall, it was a nice escapist movie and full of suspense at times.

TWO-AND-A-HALF REAGANS

* “Albert Nobbs“: Destined to be a lesbian cult classic. Glenn Close plays a woman who cross-dresses as a man, “Albert Nobbs,” in order to get a good job at a hotel and survive in 19th Century Ireland. While at the hotel, she meets an equally lesbionic woman dressing as a man (who does handiwork at the hotel) and looks into starting a romance with him/her/it, discovering that he/she is already married to a woman. Albert Nobbs then decides she/he also wants to marry a woman and tries to star a romance with a young female hotel maid (Mia Wasikowska). Even with all this, nothing really happens in this movie and you wonder why you wasted your time. This movie wasn’t just weird, slow, boring, and depressing, it was annoying and creepy, too. Yuck.

FOUR MARXES PLUS FOUR JANET NAPOLITANOS

* “Pina“: Oy vey. I could not wait until this uber-pretentious modern “dance” movie was over. Is running around a forest in a cocktail dress with a leaf blower blowing leaves, “dance?” Is a guy sitting on his butt moving his feet and butt around the platform, “dance?” Is a bunch of people flailing around like Elaine from “Seinfeld,” “dance?” Is writhing around in dirt, getting dirt shoveled on you by a woman in high heels, and running around with a tree strapped to your back, “dance?” Only if you believe in the emperor’s new clothing, despite the fact that he’s stark naked. Oh and speaking of that, many of the chick dancers in this movie must be members of SAG. They were badly in need of bras, and not in a sexy way. And why the heck was this in 3D? To make the ridiculous, 3D ridiculous? Even worse, it’s mostly in German with English subtitles.

For the record, I took several years of modern dance as a kid, but this was insane. I wanted to laugh loudly and repeatedly during the screening, but I worked hard to restrain myself. Methinks Isadora Duncan is turning over in her grave.

This “documentary” by German filmmaker Wim Wenders was absurd and boring as heck. It’s for weird liberals who pretend that something that ain’t there is some sort of masterpiece. Ah, I just now figured out the Obama vote! This movie is supposed to be a tribute to dead choreographer Pina Bausch by her dancers. You’d think this woman was “G-d on earth” to hear them talk of her. Made me sick … especially when I saw what she conned them into believing was dance. Hilarious. Even more hilarious was that the pretentious crowd with which I saw this actually applauded at the end.

Like I said, now I understand the people who voted for Obama. Ain’t nothin’ there. And you wonder why more Americans would rather go bowling than have their tax dollars fund fakery like this posing as “art” and “humanities.”

FOUR MARXES PLUS FOUR JOKERS

* “One For the Money“: This film adaptation of Janet Evanovich’s “thrillers” about a bounty hunter, named Stephanie Plum, wasn’t screened for critics. I should have learned my lesson about that. But, instead, I punished myself, paid full admission, and went to see the midnight show, last night, so I could review it for you. Utter CUH-RAP.

Katherine Heigl goes back and forth from her own accent to a bad, stereotypical New Jersey skank accent in playing Plum But that wasn’t nearly as awful as the script, “plot,” and pretty much everything else about this silly movie without a point or much of a story. Guys, if your girlfriend or wife tries to drag you to this, avoid it like the plague. It would be a compliment to call this a B movie. More like an H. Oh, and it’s filled with crass, stupid stereotypes against Italians, of which you can see far better on “Jersey Shore.”

Heigl plays a broke, divorced woman whose car is repossessed and who loses her job selling lingerie at a department store. She begins working for her sleazy cousin as a bounty hunter, trying to catch a man she once slept with, stalked, and ran over–a handsome cop accused of murder. Believe me, I’m making this sound infinitely better than it is.

The movie is populated by cheesy, dopey lines and moves from Debbie Reynolds, who plays the grandmother. And there’s also the annoying Sherri Shepherd from ABC’s anti-male yenta hag-fest, “The View,” playing what pretty much everyone on “The View” actually is, a hooker.

I could not wait for this movie to end. It’s low-quality Gitmo torture. If Evanovich’s best-selling “thrillers” are as stupid as this movie, you know what that says about the gazillions of American women who made her a multi-millionaire and best-seller: STOOOPID.

More Persecution of Christians than Ever Before

Persecution of Christians is rife and horrific in many parts of the world, and it's coming to the place where you live.

People who are living comfortably in a Western country that has laws to protect freedom of religion are often blissfully unaware of mounting persecution in the rest of the world. Virtually every religion suffers some persecution, but Christians are suffering the most. A recent study reported that 75 out of every 100 people that are killed for religious hatred are Christian. In 2010, Open Doors, a mission supporting persecuted Christians in more than 45 countries, estimated that 100 million Christians were being persecuted.

We need to be informed about this tragedy for several reasons.

In numerous countries, like Iran, Saudi Arabia and North Korea, intolerance and oppression of Christians is state policy. Many other state governments mostly ignore religious discrimination and violence against minorities, offering virtually no protection.

Ironically, the fall of a corrupt secular dictator, like President Mubarak of Egypt, is often bad news for Christians. Where Islam predominates, the overthrow of a secular dictator often allows the government to become controlled by Muslim extremists who are determined to establish Sharia law as the law of the nation. And Sharia forbids everyone from practicing any religion other than Islam!

Radical Islam isn't the only culprit—many Christians in India are suffering persecution from Hindu groups as well. Indian Christians are in a particularly bad spot because they are at risk from both radical Hindus and Muslims.

Persecution began with the founder of Christianity!

We shouldn't be surprised by ongoing persecution of Christians. It began immediately—with relentless slander and threats against the Perfect Man, Jesus Christ. Then His enemies managed to torture and kill Him in the most horrible way, by crucifixion.

Jesus warned His followers: "If the world hates you, realize that it hated me before it hated you…If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you" (John 15:18If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

See All..., 20). He added, "Yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service" (John 16:2They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.

In fact, there are many Bible prophecies of severe persecution of God's people in the end time .

Many forms of persecution

Persecution ranges from mild to severe. Keep in mind that when people can get away with minor forms of persecution, they often turn to more violent forms.

Even milder forms of persecution are obviously hurtful and scary: ridiculing, teasing, humiliating, ostracizing or speaking derogatorily or nastily of a Christian; schools not permitting students to write or speak about their Christian beliefs; employers discriminating against a Christian; and Christian political candidates putting up with scathing ridicule and slander.

These milder forms are increasingly prevalent in the United States, an indicator of much worse to come. We must make sure that each of us is prepared with strong faith and strong courage!

Should we be concerned for those who are suffering persecution in other nations?

It's easy to be apathetic about people in faraway places when we are extremely busy with our day-to-day activities. But there is no excuse for being selfish, self-centered and self-righteous. Jesus set the bar very high, commanding us to love everyone, even our enemies (Luke 6:27-38 [27] But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, [28] Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. [29] And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also. [30] Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again. [31] And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. [32] For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. [33] And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same. [34] And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. [35] But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. [36] Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. Many of these men and women are risking their lives to do what they consider to be God's work. Many end up being imprisoned, tortured and martyred for their beliefs. For all this, they deserve our deep respect.

We need to feel deep compassion and sympathy for these dedicated people—and pray for them.

Pastor Martin Neimoller, a survivor of Nazi concentration camps, said this: "First they came for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up, because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak up for me."

Let's be reminded of the Parable of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:29-37 [29] But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour? [30] And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. [31] And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. [32] And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side. [33] But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, [34] And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. [35] And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. [36] Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? [37] And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

See All.... The Samaritan, who had less scriptural knowledge, was the one who pleased God because he felt and showed compassion. Scriptural knowledge is wonderful, but if we want God to show us compassion when we are persecuted, we must feel and express compassion toward others who are being persecuted.

Let's remember these words of Jesus: "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy" (Matthew 5:7Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

South Carolina mosque leader arrested in cigarette trafficking and money laundering scheme

Mosque Leader Charged in Cigarette Smuggling Ring," from IPT News, January 23:

A leader of a South Carolina mosque was among 11 men arrested in a cigarette trafficking and money laundering scheme spanning several states. A 26-count indictment issued in November and unsealed last week accused Nasser Alquza, president of the Central Mosque of Charleston, and others of conspiracy, receiving stolen property, and related charges.

The arrests followed a government sting operation in which Alquza and other defendants allegedly purchased over 6,800 cases of "stolen" Marlboro cigarettes from undercover agents in exchange for over $7.5 million, the indictment said. The proceeds from the "stolen" cigarettes, whose wholesale value was in excess of $15 million, was then laundered through legitimate businesses owned or controlled by the defendants....

The indictment highlighted the illegal sale of cigarettes as a serious problem facing law enforcement. It detailed how criminal enterprises purchased large volumes of cigarettes in states with low cigarette taxes such as North and South Carolina and illegally transported them to states with higher cigarette taxes where they were sold without paying the sales tax for higher profits.

The case is reminiscent of a Hizballah fundraising operation from the 1990s based out of Charlotte, N.C., in which 18 defendants led by Mohamad Hammoud were responsible for the illegal smuggling of more than $8 million worth of cigarettes from North Carolina to Michigan. Profits from the cigarette sales were sent to Hizballah in Lebanon. In 2002, Hammoud was sentenced to 150 years in prison. A judge subsequently reduced Hammoud's sentence to 30 years....

Immigration Agents: We Rated ICE Near Bottom of 240 Agencies b/c Obama F’d It Up, Caters to Left

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents rated their agency 222nd out of 240 agencies, saying their agency is in the bottom 8% of all federal agencies in the 2011 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey. Gee, I wonder why. After Barack Obama and his administration constantly attacking ICE agents and stopping them from doing their jobs; after Obama hiring a La Raza activist as his immigration policy point person (and then appointing her his top policy person on all issues); after the agency creates forms and hotline numbers encouraging illegal aliens–the few that ICE is allowed to detain under Obama–to report agents as “civil rights violators,” I’m actually surprised the agency was as high as 222nd and not dead last. But not John Moron Morton, the Obama chief of ICE who is busy using 9/11 for government-funded booty calls to see his girlfriend in New York and using your tax dollars to stay at froofy Kimpton Hotels and eat at fancy Asian-Fusion restaurants. The reason ICE agents hate their agency is that morale is at an all time low, and much of that is because of Barack Hussein Obama and the people he picked to run Homeland Security and ICE. They are incompetent cronyist bureaucrats with ZERO law enforcement experience. NONE.

Partners in Crime

Yesterday, Morton sent ICE agents a silly e-mail relaying his “concern” that his agents think he and the agency are a joke and that morale is bad. It’s something he apparently doesn’t see because he’s too busy pretending to be important and letting Janet Napolitano’s pointchick, Suzie “Stripper Pole” Barr run the agency . . . into the ground. To address the low morale, instead of resigning, he and his boss, Janet Napolitano a/k/a “Albert Nobbs-itano” are spending your money to create a bureaucratic “steering committee.” I hear it will be headed by Captain Francesco Schettino.

I’m, frankly, not sure why ICE even still exists since it lost its mission to investigate terrorism money-laundering, agents aren’t allowed to arrest most illegal aliens anymore, and the few things left–like stopping kiddie-porn–are duplicative efforts done by local police. The Partnership for Public Service recently ranked the best places to work in the Federal Government. The rankings were based on three of 70 questions in the 2011 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey. Those three questions asked whether you would recommend ICE as a good place to work, how satisfied you are with your job and how satisfied you are with ICE.

Like several components in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), ICE did not fare particularly well. ICE ranked 222 of 240. This concerns me and ICE leadership. Recently, Secretary Napolitano created a DHS Employee Engagement Executive Steering Committee (ESC) to address the survey results.

Although ICE, as a relatively young agency, has faced challenges that other more mature, long-established agencies have not faced, these challenges do not diminish our concern about the rankings. We want to improve the satisfaction of our employees who work every day to carry out our critical mission.

I have asked Daniel Ragsdale, executive associate director for management and administration, and his team in ICE’s Office of Human Capital to lead our effort to improve your satisfaction with employment at ICE. During this process, they will consider how other law enforcement agencies operate and how the unique aspects of ICE’s mission affect a career at ICE.

Over the next several months, ICE managers will conduct town hall meetings and attend labor management forums to address the survey results. We will use your feedback, negative and positive, as a foundation for identifying and analyzing areas for improvement. . . .

In addition to soliciting employee feedback at town hall meetings, we will consult with the unions that represent ICE’s two bargaining units for their input and will honor any collective bargaining obligations that we have with them. Don’t laugh too hard when you read this one…. Perhaps if this Obama Administration and the cronies running ICE allowed the employees of ICE to do the job that they were all hired to do, ICE would have scored higher than the abysmal 222 of 240 agencies reviewed. Instead, employees continue to be demoralized as senior leaders cater to unfounded accusations by far-left Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and human rights groups always finding fault with the law enforcement tactics used by ICE officers, long before any review is completed which ultimately exonerates officers.

These senior leaders appointed by Barack Obama and this Obama Administration have sold immigration enforcement and the good employees of ICE downriver–piling more and more meaningless requirements on employees so it gets to the point that they’re too busy answering questions and adhering to procedures than enforcing the law. I don’t know what planet these people live on – or what illegal substance they are smoking to come up with bulls**t like this. All they have to do–John Morton, Suzie Barr [ICE Chief of Staff, who is really running the agency for Napolitano], Beth Gibson [ICE Assistant Deputy Director], and Dan Ragsdale [DS: ICE Executive Associate Director of Management and Administration, a BS position created just for him]–is look in the mirror to find the culprit of the systemic demoralization of thousands of good law enforcement officers.

Solicit employee feedback??? More like start a witch hunt for those that have expressed poor morale.

Meaning??Do managers convey ICE goals and priorities, and do they share information about our progress in meeting them? Do employees have clarity regarding how their work relates to these goals? Does the work bring ICE employees a feeling of personal accomplishment? Of course these fools convey the goals and priorities….and who cares about progress in meeting them. ICE employees know the progress. Immigration enforcement is dead. Clarity in goals? Employees heads are spinning because they can’t keep up with all the Tiers and Levels these idiots have created on immigration enforcement matters. The only priority these fools have is to let people stay and get new voters. Personal accomplishment – non existent.

Leadership – Overall, are employees satisfied with the policies and practices of leadership? This issue is brought to the forefront by the fact that the union gave a unanimous vote of non-confidence in John Morton.

What a farce. I wonder how much these idiots are going to pay for townhall meetings to travel all over the country so Beth Gibson can visit grandma in Seattle and Suzie Barr can visit her buddies in Arizona – all to “improve morale.”

With fools like these running the country – we’re all doomed.

"Come on, it's cool! Everybody's using it. Don't be so uptight." Maybe you have heard others ask, "What's the big deal?" So, is marijuana a harmless drug or a gateway to all kinds of trouble? Here are a few facts about marijuana to help you think vertically:

• U.S. government statistics put marijuana use at 23.9 percent of 10th graders. For high school seniors, it is 32.4 percent (National Institute on Drug Abuse 2008 survey, nida.nih.gov). While these numbers are high, it's hardly "everybody."

• Although the primary agent in marijuana is THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), more than 400 other chemicals are present in marijuana smoke. Many are the same harmful compounds found in cigarette smoke.

• While there are no complete statistics about marijuana's contribution to traffic accidents, the effects of marijuana are well-known: severely diminished alertness, concentration, coordination and reaction time. In this respect, driving under the influence of marijuana is similar to driving under the influence of alcohol.

• A very high number of hard drug users started with marijuana. While not every user of marijuana goes on to harder drugs, many do.

• In the United States, there were more than 750,000 arrests for marijuana possession in 2007, the latest year for which statistics are available (fbi.gov).

Asked moments later what the conversation was about, Brewer, a Republican, said: "He was a little disturbed about my book."

Brewer recently published a book, "Scorpions for Breakfast," something of a memoir of her years growing up and defends her signing of Arizona's controversial law cracking down on illegal immigrants, which Obama opposes.

Obama was objecting to Brewer's description of a meeting he and Brewer had at the White House, where she described Obama as lecturing her. In an interview in November Brewer described two tense meetings. The first took place before his commencement address at Arizona State University. "He did blow me off at ASU," she said in the television interview in November.

She also described meeting the president at the White House in 2010 to talk about immigration. "I felt a little bit like I was being lectured to, and I was a little kid in a classroom, if you will, and he was this wise professor and I was this little kid, and this little kid knows what the problem is and I felt minimized to say the least."

On the tarmac Wednesday, Brewer handed Obama an envelope with a handwritten invitation to return to Arizona to meet her for lunch and to join her for a visit to the border.

"I said to him, you know, I have always respected the office of the president and that the book is what the book is," she told reporters Wednesday. She said Obama complained that she described him as not treating her cordially.

"I said that I was sorry that he felt that way. Anyway, we're glad he's here, and we'll regroup."

A White House official said Brewer handed Obama a letter and said she was inviting him to meet with her. The official said Obama told her he would be glad to meet with her again. The official said Obama did note that at their last meeting, which the official described as a cordial discussion in the Oval Office, the governor inaccurately described the meeting in her book. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to describe a private conversation between the president and the governor.

The Korean War showed how easily a local war in Asia, like the brewing China-Taiwan conflict, can escalate.

Few people today remember much about the Korean War (1950-53). It started as a civil war between North and South Korea. Yet, since there were political and strategic interests involved, soon the United States, the former Soviet Union, China and 19 other nations entered the dangerous fray. Besides the Koreans, the primary contenders were the United States and its United Nations allies on one side, and China and the former U.S.S.R. on the other. In that war, the U.S. suffered over 150,000 casualties, South Korea over a million, and North Korea and China about two million.

At one point in 1951, U.N. commanding officer General Douglas MacArthur urged attacking China and blockading its coasts as the only way to defeat the enemy. President Truman feared this would lead to a world war between the United States, China and the Soviet Union.

After two more years of bloody combat, a truce agreement was signed that left Korea divided. This unresolved conflict remains one of the world's trouble spots.

But more importantly, this war showed how easily a local civil war in Asia can escalate to epic proportions and involve the world's major powers.

The recent Taiwan elections

Now, 50 years since the start of the Korean War, another Asian threat looms on the horizon. The small, but economically powerful island of Taiwan has elected a president whose political platform calls for independence from mainland China. The Chinese authorities have said such a declaration would trigger a war. This could lead to alignments among the world's major powers that resemble the past. Moreover, a recent poll among the Chinese showed 95 percent favor going to war if Taiwan declared its independence.

How did this explosive situation arise?

In 1949 several million Chinese fled to this island after Mao Zedong, the Communist leader, conquered mainland China. From that time the Chinese have threatened to invade Taiwan, but thanks mostly to strong U.S. support of the island, the threat has never been carried out.

Chinese incorporation of Hong Kong and Macau

In recent years China has become more emboldened by annexing Hong Kong and Macau. Now only Taiwan remains outside the fold.

Yet Taiwan is a far different situation. Instead of being on the Chinese coastline as Hong Kong and Macau are, it is a prosperous island 160 miles (250 kilometers) off the coast. Its sizable population of 23 million and its successful democratic and open economic system has helped Taiwan attain one of the world's highest standards of living. Taiwan produces 80 percent of all computer motherboards in the world. Unlike Hong Kong and Macau, it has a considerable military force, is not a foreign-run country and passionately resists being incorporated by China. Meanwhile, mainland China is still beset by a rigid, one party Communist rule and a very low standard of living which, of course, does not attract the Taiwanese people in the least.

On the other hand, for Chinese President Jiang Zemin, Taiwan is the last and juiciest of all former territories left to recover. He realizes incorporating wayward Taiwan would place him in the Communist pantheon with the likes of Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping.

One U.S. official commented, "After the return of Hong Kong in 1997 and Macau in 1999, Taiwan is the last reunification issue on Beijing's agenda. It's also a cause that appeals to Chinese nationalism and could rally popular support for the leadership. It's a life and death issue for the Chinese regime" ( The Washington Post, March 16, 2000, p. 22).

Sino-expert Elizabeth Rosenthal adds, "It is hard for non-Chinese to understand the depths of Chinese devotion to Taiwan, which is born partly of decades of Communist Party propaganda and partly of humiliations of China's history, when Westerners carved up China for their economic advantage. 'China was divided when it was weak, and now that it is getting strong again, people's nationalist feeling rises and they feel strongly it is time to reunite the country,' said Zhang Yunling, the head of South Asian Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences" ( The New York Times, March 20, 2000).

Navigating between Scylla and Charybdis

In ancient times, when one had to avoid two dangerous extremes, it was said he was between Scylla and Charybdis, two famous perils seamen had to avoid. Newly-elected Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian now has to guide his nation between two great dangers. One is provoking China into a war, which is increasingly becoming a real possibility. The other is backing down from his political pledge of independence and enraging his followers, which would undermine his political strength.

Up to now, to avoid either extreme, he has resorted to pleasing both sides. With China, he has extended an olive leaf, toned down the independence rhetoric and expressed a desire to visit mainland China to calm tensions.

With his partisans, he has said, "Taiwan is an independent, sovereign country; it is not a part of the People's Republic of China" ( Newsweek, March 27, 2000, p. 26). He has also rejected as "unacceptable" China's "one country, two systems" formula for reunification, and has stressed Taiwan will not follow in the steps of Hong Kong and Macau.

This balancing act seems difficult to maintain in the long run. Chen has great pressure to live up to his pledge of independence, while China's patience is dwindling fast.

"Even before the election," explained Newsweek, "Beijing sensed that Taiwan was slipping away. In response, military hard-liners have launched a campaign to boost China's readiness for conflict. The military has pushed for bigger budgets and training programs focused on naval power projection and amphibious lift-all crucial to an invasion scenario. Last week mainland scholars warned darkly that reunification by force 'could be just a matter of hours away'" (March 27, 2000, p. 27).

Recently, Wei Jingsheng, a Chinese dissident who spent 19 years as a political prisoner in China, told The Washington Times he thought China's warning that Taiwan might not get a second chance for peace if they elected Chen was a sign that China had already decided to invade Taiwan.

Trapped in the middle

Caught in the middle of this dangerous dispute is the United States. Several times in the past, when America saw early signs of Chinese aggression toward Taiwan, it dispatched some of its carriers into the area to quell the rising tensions. The last time was in 1996, just prior to Taiwanese presidential elections, when China lobbed some missiles in front of Taiwan. The U.S. dispatched two aircraft carriers to the region and China backed off.

But U.S. relations have also changed toward Taiwan. In 1979, the U.S. allowed a 24-year-old defense treaty with Taiwan to expire and replaced it with the Taiwan Relations Act that only requires the U.S. to give Taiwan the means to protect itself.

The U.S. calls this new relationship with China and Taiwan "strategic ambiguity," which means neither side knows how committed the U.S. is to entering a possible conflict. To please China, the U.S. formally recognized it as the sole legal authority, but still insists on having cultural, commercial and unofficial (meaning military) relations with Taiwan. In this way, China never knows how far the U.S. will go to defend Taiwan, and neither does Taiwan know how far the U.S. is prepared to back it if it declares independence. This "ambiguity" could be tested in the future.

China and Russia's new "strategic partnership"

Lately, China has been building up its war arsenal thanks to a new partnership with Russia. Soon China will receive two modern Russian destroyers that China hopes can curb U.S. power in the region. It also has many submarines (71), missiles that can reach Taiwan (200) and advanced Russian fighter jets (40).

The Los Angeles Times reported, "Alarmed by U.S. political and military might worldwide, both Moscow and Beijing have called for increased cooperation to check American power and to pave the way for a 'multi-polar world'.... For Russia, attempting to strengthen ties with China is a logical move to counter Western leaders who oppose the Chechen war on humanitarian grounds" (Dec. 9, 1999).

Pavel Voshchanov, a Russian former secretary to the president, stated in the same article, "China is the only one of Russia's neighbors that has not clearly oriented itself either toward the West or toward the Muslim world. In order to be able to ignore both these opponents, Russia needs to have a third force, and China is a perfect candidate for this mission."

Russia is the chief supplier of arms to China, and in a possible conflict involving Taiwan and the U.S., it would be difficult for Russia not to side with China.

For example, in the past year, as the Chinese celebrated their 50th anniversary of Communist rule, President Jiang took a swipe at the U.S. and vowed to "unite" China and make it powerful again. A reporter at the celebration wrote: "Just as pointedly, a formation of Russian-made Su-27 fighters roared overhead, evidence of a newly declared 'strategic partnership' with Moscow (the two nations began their first-ever joint naval exercise last week)" ( Time, Sept. 27, 1999).

Most military strategists consider China still doesn't have the firepower to successfully invade Taiwan. Newsweek asked, "Now that Chen is at the helm, will China invade? Beijing hoped Taiwan would think so. But an attack is unlikely for now. China's generals realize they still lack the muscle to succeed in an outright invasion" (March 27, 2000).

BBC News offered this analysis on a possible Chinese attack against Taiwan: "So the big question is whether the U.S. would actually be prepared to go to war with China over Taiwan. The U.S. points to its military build-up in the region four years ago [1996] as proof of its commitment. But deploying battleships, and actually firing on China are very different things, and President Clinton has gone to great lengths to improve relations with Beijing which he would not throw away lightly.

"In a sign of deepening Congressional mistrust of China, the House of Representatives recently approved legislation to deepen the ties with the Taiwanese military, although the bill looks unlikely to pass the Senate. President Clinton has also said he would veto the bill. But this is his last year in office, and if Beijing increases the pressure on Taiwan in the run-up to the elections there, the question of Taiwan might also become a factor in the American elections too" (March 7, 2000, emphasis added).

A troubling hot spot

Taiwan has now entered a new scenario. Gone are the days when all the Taiwanese leaders came from the same ruling party (the KMT) and sought a status quo with China. Now, the journey to preserve the peace will be far more difficult. Newsweek said both China and the KMT knew Chen Shui-bian's victory "would mean not only the end of the KMT era. It would put China's dreams of peaceful reunification almost out of reach-and could even make its leaders start considering war" (March 27, 2000).

Everything depends on what China and Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian will do. An ever-present danger is that, just as in the wars in Korea and Vietnam, what could begin as a local civil war between China and Taiwan could eventually involve the world's main powers-who have far more deadlier firepower than before.

To complicate matters, a well-respected Chinese newspaper reported China would consider using neutron bombs, which can destroy people but not buildings, if an amphibious invasion failed. After this report, this Chinese government newspaper was shut down, since they had revealed classified material. A U.S. newspaper mentioned, "'Editors of Haowangjiao (Weekly) released something they were not supposed to release,' a man at its parent publication who refused to identify himself said Tuesday... But it isn't clear whether the article's publication was a blunder or a deliberate but deniable warning to Taiwan and the United States" ( Spokane Spokesman-Review, March 22, 2000).

If China invades Taiwan, then either the U.S. backs down and shows great weakness and cowardice by allowing the island to be swallowed up, or it steps in. Since China has a strategic partnership with Russia, which now has a president who showed a ruthless side in the Chechen war, what will Russia do? Will it back China (which sorely needs Russian weapons) and use this show of bravado to promote the much needed Russian nationalism? If this happens, it could cause the United States to react and interrupt aid and commerce to China and Russia, among other things.

Regional tinderbox

In sum, history has shown that great conflagrations can begin with local civil wars, which eventually activate different alliances and lead to larger conflicts. Two end-time alliances could arise from such smaller conflicts. The first is mentioned in Revelation 17:13 where 10 kings give their "power and authority" to the beast. Another is mentioned in Revelation 16:12 where the "kings from the east" prepare to invade the Holy Land.

Taiwan is a tinderbox worth watching, for an armed conflict there could produce a domino effect among the world's most powerful nations and activate their different alliances. It is one of the many possibilities that could lead to an end-time scenario. WNP

What really galled me was Pres. Obama bragging about more than 3 million U.S. jobs created during the last 22 months.

That could have been good news for unemployed Americans.

But during that same period, the Obama Administration issued more than 3 million work visas to new immigrants and other foreign workers (more than half of them permanent).

What is the point of all that talk in the speech about creating jobs when the federal government is importing so many new workers?

But on our TV screens tonight, the Culprit in Chief in giving away the jobs to foreign workers was not the Commander in Chief giving the speech. Rather, it was the Speaker of the House sitting behind him.

Compared to the heavy-metal terror I used to feel listening to Pres. Bush's State of the Union immigration appeals, Pres. Obama's obligatory immigration section tonight was easy-listening music. The verses and chorus pushing for amnesties for illegal aliens were nearly identical to last year's speech and just didn't sound like he had a thought in the world that any of it could happen.

That is a tribute to the relentless efforts of all of you.

Report: Obama Supporter Buffett to Profit from Rejection of Keystone XL Pipeline

Warren Buffett’s Burlington Northern Santa Fe LLC is among U.S. and Canadian railroads that stand to benefit from the Obama administration’s decision to reject TransCanada Corp.’s Keystone XL oil pipeline permit.

With modest expansion, railroads can handle all new oil produced in western Canada through 2030, according to an analysis of the Keystone proposal by the U.S. State Department.

“Whatever people bring to us, we’re ready to haul,” Krista York-Wooley, a spokeswoman for Burlington Northern, a unit of Buffett’s Omaha, Nebraska-based Berkshire Hathaway Inc., said in an interview. If Keystone XL “doesn’t happen, we’re here to haul.”

The State Department denied TransCanada a permit on Jan. 18, saying there was not enough time to study the proposal by Feb. 21, a deadline Congress imposed on President Barack Obama. Calgary-based TransCanada has said it intends to re-apply with a route that avoids an environmentally sensitive region of Nebraska, something the Obama administration encouraged.

The rail option, though costlier, would lessen the environmental impact, such as a loss of wetlands and agricultural productivity, compared to the pipeline, according to the State Department analysis. Greenhouse gas emissions, however, would be worse.

If completed, Keystone XL would deliver 700,000 barrels a day of crude from Alberta’s oil sands to refineries along the Gulf of Mexico, crossing 1,661 miles (2,673-kilometers) over Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.

Tanker Car Bottleneck

Investors such as John Stephenson, who helps manage $2.7 billion for First Asset Management Inc. in Toronto said he anticipated the project would move forward next year. Pipeline shipping costs remain lower than rail, and a lack of readily available tanker cars may create a bottleneck.

The availability of tank cars may create a temporary “hiccup” in transport capacity, according to Tony Hatch, an independent railroad analyst in New York. Rail cars are “a pretty hot commodity,” as a result of demand from oil producers in North Dakota, he said.

Rail car production is already at a three-year high as manufacturers such as Greenbrier Cos Inc. and American Railcar Industries Inc. expand to meet demand for sand used in oil and gas exploration, according to Steve Barger, an analyst at Keybanc Capital Markets Inc. in Cleveland, citing Railway Supply Institute statistics.

‘Long-Term Solution’

Rail-car suppliers can add capacity, Hatch said.

“Railroads are not just a stopgap while we wait for a pipeline,” Hatch said in an interview. “They are potentially part of the long-term solution.”

Railroads are being used in North Dakota, where oil producers have spurred a fivefold increase in output by using intensive drilling practices in the Bakken, a geologic formation that stretches from southern Alberta to the northern U.S. Great Plains. During 2011, rail capacity in the region tripled to almost 300,000 barrels a day as higher production exceeded what pipelines handle, according to the State Department report on Keystone XL.

Shipping oil using tank cars on rail costs about $3 more a barrel than pipeline transport, using prices in North Dakota, a differential “unlikely” to slow the development of oil sands crude if no pipeline is build, the State Department said. The gap is shrinking as larger storage terminals are built, the agency said.

‘Ready to Haul’

Burlington Northern carries about 25 percent of the oil from the Bakken, said Krista York-Wooley, the railroad spokeswoman. The company can carry higher volumes from North Dakota or Alberta, she said.

Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd.’s shipments from North Dakota climbed to more than 13,000 carloads last year from about 500 in 2009, Ed Greenberg, a spokesman, said in an e-mail. The Calgary- based company has a similar plan in western Canada.

“With an extensive rail network and proven expertise in moving energy, CP offers a flexible option for transporting crude oil and other energy-related products to and from key locations in North America,” Vice President Tracy Robinson said in an e-mail. “Rail is scalable, allowing CP to effectively keep pace with the shipping needs of producers.”

Oil Sands

Canadian National Railway Co., the biggest Canadian railroad based on annual sales, considers Alberta’s oil sands a chance to expand its business, according to company filings.

“CN continues to work closely with customers in Alberta to capitalize on oil-and-gas related opportunities,” the Calgary- based company said. “CN sees potential for the outbound movement of oil sands products such as bitumen and synthetic crude to refineries in the U.S. Gulf Coast region, or eventually through West Coast ports to offshore markets.”

Imperial Oil Ltd., a Calgary-based unit of Exxon Mobil Corp., will consider “various transportation options” for oil sands exports, according Pius Rohlheiser, a spokesman. Cenovus Energy Inc. uses railroads to bring in dilutants needed to mix with heavy crude before it can be shipped by pipeline, and to export oil from the Bakken formation in Canada, according to Jessica Wilkinson, a spokeswoman.

Environmentalists’ Opposition

Environmental groups such as the Natural Resources Defense Council have campaigned to stop Keystone XL because leaks could threaten drinking water supplies and processing Alberta crude produces more greenhouse gas emissions than conventional oil.

Railroads too present environmental issues. Moving crude on trains produces more global warming gases than a pipeline, the State Department said.

Union Pacific Corp., based in Omaha, Nebraska, anticipated an increase in rail traffic with or without Keystone, Chief Executive Officer Jim Young said in an interview.

“We would have been involved with moving the pipe and a lot of the construction business in building it,” Young said. “On the other hand, if you don’t build any pipeline capacity, you’re going to be moving a lot of crude by train.”

It will take five to eight years before oil sands production outstrips existing export capacity, the State Department said.

Tank car utilization is at “record levels” fueled by demand from oil and natural gas producers, according to Doug Reece, director of marketing for Oakville, Ontario-based Procor Ltd., a rail-car leasing company. The soonest new cars will be available is 2013, he said.

“In western Canada, shippers and third parties are investing in the necessary infrastructure and we see strong growth ahead,” Reece said in an e-mail. “We are having regular dialogue with customers about their potential needs, as collaboration and fleet planning have become critical.”

Rail allows shippers to reach different markets and capture better prices at refineries, said John Mims, a transportation analyst at Friedman Billings Ramsey & Co. in Arlington, Virginia.

“It’s a good secular growth story for the railroads,” Mims said in an interview.“They’re playing an increasing role, especially as you see this push back from a regulatory standpoint on the pipelines.”

Nigeria: Muslims destroy Christian orphanage

But Nigerian officials assure us that the end of Boko Haram is near, only weeks after admitting that the jihad group had friends and supporters in high levels of the Nigerian government. Sounds as if the claims that the jihadis' end is near are just face-saving.

SECURITY agents operating under the aegis of the Joint Task Force (JTF) on Operation Restore Order (ORO) in Maiduguri have killed four persons suspected to be members of the fundamentalist Islamic sect Boko Haram.

But the uncovering of vehicles laden with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) cast a shadow over this victory.

The vehicles with the IEDs said to be owned by members of Boko Haram were uncovered in Kano where about 200 people were killed by the sect last Friday.

It was learnt that two vehicles, Honda and Camry cars, were discovered to have contained the explosive devices at Gorondutse and Sheka parts of the metropolis.

Though there is no official reaction to the discovery, it is believed that the explosives may have been abandoned by Boko Haram members.

To ensure the return of peace to the state, Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, yesterday led hundreds of Muslim faithful in a special prayer session.

However, commercial banks that initially opened had to shut down at about 10.00 a.m. when false news filtered into town that the state government had declared yesterday a work-free day.

Armed soldiers and plain clothes security personnel patrolled strategic points within the metropolis and stern-looking security operatives barred residents from gaining access to any of the police formations within the metropolis.

Suspected Boko Haram members took their terrorism to Minna, Niger State as they set ablaze a Christian missionary home, Bethany Home, and destroyed property worth millions of naira.

Although no life was lost in the attack, occupants of the home, mostly orphans and the less-privileged were rendered homeless as a result of the attack.

The Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Oluseyi Petinrin yesterday assured that Boko Haram might soon run out of suicide bombers.

Oh, that's a relief!

America's Last Stand: New Hope In The Fight Against The Illegal Immigration Invasion‏

With an economic siege on middle class Americans that rivals the Great Depression, and a "president" who has thrown America's elections and existing laws to the wind with his dictatorial actions and authoritarian regime, morale is quite low among those fighting to save America. While illegal aliens have started to flee America faster than they are streaming in due to public hostility, fewer jobs, and a growing array of states standing up against them, Dictator Obama is doing all he can to keep his occupying army in place!

Many patriotic and peaceful Americans are giving up on the politicians all together. They are frustrated after illegal immigration control has been a top issue in American elections since 2006 and still our borders remain open with a recent report claiming 95% of illegal aliens who try succeed in getting into the US. Billions in taxpayer resources stolen away each year while thousands of Americans are slaughtered by illegal aliens enticed into America by big banks, global corporations, and traitorous Republicans and Democrats in Washington, DC, continue to side with the illegal immigrant invasion against the interests of American citizens! People have had enough and their confidence in political solutions is fading fast.

For those of you who have been thinking about quitting the fight, surrender is not an option. I will remind you all that while Obama's Amnesty decree by memo may seem discouraging to Americans and attractive to invaders, it does not have the force of law. We will never recognize or legitimize the pseudo legal status that the Obama administration is granting millions of illegal aliens. We do not have to recognize this move as legitimate because the US Constitution specifically states that immigration law is the purview of Congress and Congress has not changed the law.

Quitting the fight against illegal immigration is not an option, because if the globalists succeed in keeping millions of illegal aliens in America influencing American elections legitimately or via mass felonious election fraud, then all peaceful and political hopes of securing our borders and enforcing our immigration laws will go out the door forever. This final threshold which could be crossed soon is a point of no return.

Illegal immigration is a weapon being deployed by global players outside of the US to hit us with something that will knock us down and keep us down. It is the coup de grace, the final blow to demographically submerge America and all she has ever stood for once and for all. Do you believe you can turn away and leave the fight against illegal immigration? If so, picture in your mind America before sometime before the year 2040 when the next few waves of tens of millions of illegal aliens from gang rule third world areas adorn your town, neighborhood, and front lawn.

I'm not leaving this fight because one doesn't have to be a prophet to see the American nightmare forming right before our eyes. For those of you who are considering reducing your activism and donations, or stepping away from the battle, you need to pull yourselves together and get back on the walls! This fight is not over and you cannot surrender because the consequences of surrender are diabolical and deadly. Americans never give up; we never surrender.

How many times have we seen the tide turn unexpectedly over the last seven years that ALIPAC has been in this fight? How many of you remember in December of 2010 when the supporters of the Dream Act Amnesty had all their votes lined up to win in Washington and the final vote imminent in 48 hours? So many activists threw their hands up and said, "We are beaten! They have us now!" I remember it clearly, and I also remember reading the bill and spotting the mass Amnesty provision in it, which ALIPAC pointed out and used as a last minute strategy, reversing the course of the vote!

Remember how US Senator Lindsay Graham was seated solidly at the Amnesty table in 2010 rushing to pass it before the November elections. Graham and his buddy Senator Chuck Schumer, Janet Napolitano, and John McCain were going to make our election efforts in 2010 moot by taking over a small group of Republican senators to join with the Democrats to make Amnesty for millions of illegal aliens a fait accompli?

Then I hit Senator Graham in my Tea Party speech to 5,000 folks down in Greenville, South Carolina, and 8 days later Graham withdrew from the negotiating table and ran for his life. Since that speech and the resulting national firestorm and exposure, Senator Graham's poll numbers have plummeted so low he now has more support from Democrats than Republicans. He spends all his time trying to mend fences and save his political hide instead of pushing Amnesty along with his buddy John McCain.

I could go on and on about so many dramatic turns of events, from the way Arizona's SB 1070 suddenly caught the nation's attention to when the tragic murder of rancher Bob Krentz derailed a new Amnesty attempt in DC. Time and time again, this battle between patriotic Americans like us supporting the Constitution and defending American lives, security, jobs, and taxpayer resources from invasion and the globalist illegal alien invasion has ebbed and flowed.

While we can't always see the game changing things that are going to happen ahead of time, two things we need you all to be ready and ready to react to ALIPAC's calls for activism is if the Supreme Court rules in favor of Arizona's SB 1070 which would open the flood gates of like minded legislation in other states, hopefully yours.

Two other game changers are the continuing congressional investigations into the Fast and Furious Gunwalker scandal that keeps leading right back to the White House and Obama. You thought Richard Nixon was bad? At least he didn't arm illegal alien invaders with assault rifles and grenades bought with taxpayer monies as Obama clearly has. Obama may be indicted over these scandals and if he loses his reelection bid, we expect all of the court cases against our immigration enforcement legislation in South Carolina, Arizona, Oklahoma, and Utah to be dropped, clearing our way for more legislative success and more mass exodus of illegal aliens. Their departure has opened up jobs for Americans in these states already. An Obama loss in November would also hopefully put an end to the Department of Homeland Security's efforts to brand Conservative Americans as domestic terrorists.

Be ready for the game changers when they happen.

It is my strongest personal belief that this is not just a political battle, but a spiritual war between good and evil. Between those who are defending their homes and trying to conserve what is good about America and aggressive invaders who have overthrown our Republic and taken control of the Executive Branch to further their goals. If my spiritual beliefs offend anyone, then I have no regrets.

I've made it very clear that my mission is to unite Americans of every race, religion, and walk of life who represent the 80% of us who truly want our existing border and immigration laws enforced instead of any nation destroying Amnesty. I have done my best not to offend anyone and while I want to unify us and organize us, I must be open and honest about my belief that we are not getting out of this mess without God's intervention. Our fate is in His hands, and I believe seeking to do His will is essential to finding the motivation and inspiration needed to save America, God willing.

Let's all take time to pull ourselves together, consider the consequences of inaction or failure, say a few prayers for guidance, and get down to what needs to be done in 2012!

The Missing Unemployment Statistics

The economic upheavals that frequently plague our economies won't end until Christ returns and establishes a godly financial system. So, what should a Christian who trusts God and believes His written Word do in times like this.

According to the Lansing State Journal (8/23), Michigan's hard hit economy is looking better. Unemployment has dropped from 15.2% to below 15%, the paper has twice reported.

I might feel a lot better if I could take this at face value. Unfortunately, the hard figures reveal a different story!

Unemployment is under reported

My son works for the state's department of unemployment, sometimes cynically described as "the fastest growing sector of the Michigan economy."

The reason unemployment figures are looking better, he explained, is because increasing numbers of people are coming off unemployment benefits.

Here is how it works.

Unemployed workers receive benefits for only a limited number of weeks. With extensions, people may now receive benefits for over a year but eventually they run out. That is now happening to more and more people.

My son also explained to me that 99,000 people in Michigan will have received all of their available state unemployment benefits by the end of this year. That means they could become destitute, with no income, no health insurance and unable to pay their mortgages—which indicates more foreclosures are to come!

Other unreported factors

That's not the only reason the unemployment numbers look better. People who move out of state are no longer counted as "unemployed." Nor are people who retire. Nor are the tens of thousands who have returned to their native countries. Nor are those who are in part time work, some earning as little as $50 per week. Nor are those who have had their hours and pay cut.

"CNN Newsroom" (Sunday August 23rd) predicted that 650,000 people across the United States will lose their unemployment benefits by the end of this year. This includes the 99,000 in Michigan. The prediction is that 4.4 million Americans will lose theirs before the economy recovers. That's 4.4 million people with no means of feeding themselves, short of lining up at the local soup kitchen.

It's not a pretty picture, no matter how you look at it. Things are clearly not getting any better.

One economist, not alone in his concern, wrote an op-ed in the Financial Times August 25th on the increasing likelihood of a double dip recession similar to the Great Depression. Following the Crash of 1929 the economy actually started to pick up, with the Stock Market making gains for five months in a row. Then the sixth month came and the rest is history.

Some are saying the same is likely now. The 'D' word is increasingly mentioned.

Talk of "Depression" is enough to make anyone depressed, on a personal level.

In the western world we've taken far too much for granted and have consistently failed to thank our Creator for all the physical blessings He has given to us. Faced with losing everything, this is a good time to start thanking God every day for all that He has given us.

Maybe for a while government can help if you lose your job, but that help won't last. Besides, the government is rapidly going broke. The U.S. deficit is so great that the BBC said a new word will soon be needed to describe it (BBC World News, PBS, 25th August).

Christians should not take anxious thought for tomorrow (Matthew 6:34Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

See All...). Worry never helps. Do what you can to help yourself and ask God each day to help you provide for your family needs.

How long this recession (or depression) will last cannot be accurately predicted. One thing is certain. We must all accept a lower standard of living, going without some of the pleasures we once took for granted. However, we can take assurance from King David who observed: "I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread" (Psalm 37:25I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

Obammigration: 102,000 Saudi Muslim Visas to US Approved (w/in a Week!) in ’11

Whoever the Republican Presidential nominee is, let’s hope that, if elected to the White House, he turns off the spigot of visa rubber-stamping to America. (But don’t hold your breath.) Last week, Barack Hussein Obama announced that he was going to make it even easier for foreigners to come to America on visitor and student visas. He made the absurd announcement–appropriately–at Disney World. But he’s apparently already made it very easy for Saudi Muslims, to the detriment of America’s national security. Last year, Saudi applications for visas to the United States more than quadrupled from 25,000 in 2010 to 110,000 in 2011. Even worse is the fact that a whopping 93%–or 102,300– of these applications were approved, 75% of them–nearly 77,000–within a week (!) of the application.

That means that there was little–if any!–scrutiny and background check for most of these applicants from the country from which 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers emanated. Helloooo . . . ? Anyone home? It’s outrageous, but no one is paying attention. Nobody cares. We don’t know who they are–and neither does the government. The problem is that there are over 500,000 illegal aliens who are visa violators and/or overstays. And of those, we have no idea where they are or what they are planning. A good number of those are Muslims. And there’s no doubt that some of these 100,000-plus Saudi Muslims in America will become part of that number of illegals in our midst. Even if only one percent–or over a thousand Saudi Muslim aliens–are visa overstays, that’s 1,000 Saudi Muslims that could be up to no good, and we won’t find out until it’s too late. And that’s being optimistic.

More from Muslim Arab publication Asharq Al-Awsat:

The US embassy in Riyadh revealed that 110,000 Saudi nationals applied for a visa to visit the US in 2011, an increase of 25,000 from the previous year. The embassy also revealed that 93 percent of these visa applications were approved, and 75 percent of visa application approvals were issued within one week.

Speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat, the US embassy’s Non-Immigrant Visa Chief, Robin A. Busse . . . called on Saudi students to apply as soon as possible for student visas to the US, saying this should be not less than 3 months before their course is set to begin.

As for claims that some questions contained on the visa application form are offensive, such as questions whether the applicant has every had any involvement with a terrorist organization or prostitution, he stressed that these questions are asked by US embassies across the world, under the US immigration act and approved by US congress.

For his part, US Consul General at the US embassy in Riyadh, Glen Keiser revealed that the number of Saudi Arabian nationals applying for visas to visit the US has risen by 100 percent over the past 4 years. He also revealed that more Saudi Arabians apply for visas to visit the US than any other nationality around the world.

Um, since we approved 93% of them and 75% within a week of applying, can you blame them? We are opening the floodgates to the country where Osama Bin Laden, were he alive today, would win free elections.

Statistics also revealed that 66,000 of the 110,000 Saudi visa applicants in 2011 applied for a visa at the Riyadh embassy, and that approximately a quarter of these applicants were seeking to study in the US.

Keiser also told Asharq Al-Awsat that the US visa application process is currently under review to make this faster and easier, and that this review is expected to make 35 percent of administrative procedures redundant.

HUH? This rubber-stamping process isn’t fast and easy enough???

Keiser added that the number of Saudi nationals seeking to obtain a visa to the US fell sharply following the 9/11 attacks, but this rose to and even outstripped previous levels in the subsequent years as relations improved between the two countries. Keiser said that the majority of visas to the US are granted to the private sector, and that 3 out of 4 Saudi applicants are businessmen.

BARF. I, frankly, don’t even understand why we have a visa process for Saudi Arabia and most of these countries, if we aren’t going to take the time to scrutinize those who want entry into America.

Some anniversaries should not have to be celebrated because the events they mark should not have occurred. January 22, 2012, the 39th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, is one of them. That decision is one of the greatest moral and legal tragedies in American history.

It is a moral tragedy in multiple ways, and they all stem from one inescapable fact. Every abortion kills a living human being. No word game, subject change, or political spin can change that fact. There have been nearly 50 million abortions since 1973 and, according to the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute, the “decline in abortion incidence has stalled.” More babies in America lose their lives to abortion every two days than American service members have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2003.

As President Ronald Reagan wrote on Roe‘s 10th anniversary, the question is not when human life begins, but what is the value of human life? That remains the question today. Our Declaration of Independence says that every individual is created and given rights by God. The federal government spends hundreds of billions of dollars each year on programs to help the poor, elderly, sick, or disabled. Why? It is nothing less than moral schizophrenia to say that the very same people who should be helped today could have been killed before they were born.

There is a glimmer of light peeking through this otherwise dark cloud. After nearly four decades of pro-abortion propaganda and the drumbeat that abortion is a constitutional right, most Americans still oppose most abortions and a majority says that they are pro-life and that abortion is morally wrong.

Roe v. Wade is also a legal tragedy in the way it reached these morally tragic results. Make no mistake, there is no right to abortion in the Constitution; the Supreme Court simply made it up. Take a step back from the subject of abortion for a minute and think about what this means. The Constitution is supposed to be the primary way that the people impose limits and rules on government. The Constitution is written down so everyone will know what those limits and rules are. George Washington said that the people’s control over the Constitution is literally the heart of our system of government. Our freedom depends on it. But when the Supreme Court changes the Constitution, as it did in Roe, it takes control of the Constitution away from the people, and their freedom along with it.

The phrase “judicial activism” gets tossed around a lot these days, as if it is nothing more than a label for any decision you do not like. Judicial activism really means judges taking control of the law in order to produce certain results. Claiming that there is a right to abortion in a Constitution that says no such thing, and using this made-up right to strike down state and federal laws, is as activist as it gets.

President Reagan wrote in his essay: “We cannot diminish the value of one category of human life – the unborn – without diminishing the value of all human life.” Make no mistake about it; the end result of an activist judiciary that rejected our most cherished constitutional principles is the loss of 50 million innocent lives. In Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court used judicially tragic means to achieve a morally tragic end. By highjacking the Constitution and creating this so-called right to abortion, the Supreme Court attacked not only the value of human life itself, but also the liberty of all Americans. I hope that this decision has few anniversaries left.

In the Tampa Bay debate Monday night, Mitt Romney confounded wide swaths of the internet with a concept that we've been trying for years to persuade the news media to acknowledge: A concept of handling the illegal alien population with something between mass legalization and mass deportation. Simply put, you take away the things that drew illegal aliens here and let most of them self-deport. Most especially, you take away the jobs magnet.

The questioning began with the political editor at The Tampa Bay Times (Adam Smith) saying he was confused.

Governor Romney, there is one thing I'm confused about. You say you don't want to go and round up people and deport them, but you also say that they would have to go back to their home countries and then apply for citizenship. So, if you don't deport them, how do you send them home?

I'm glad he asked the question. But if he really was confused, it means that he has closed his ears for years to advocates and groups like NumbersUSA that have insisted that mass deportation is not on the table in Congress in any way and that the alternative to legalizations/amnesty is a concept known either as "attrition through enforcement" or "self deportation."

But Smith wasn't the only one that appeared clueless to this fact Monday night.

One of the odder turns of phrase that came up during the debate was "self-deportation." Romney said illegal immigrants will leave the country — self-deport — if employment and other laws are enforced and they decide that it's no longer desirable to be in the U.S.

Good grief. Does anybody who writes about immigration ever bother to check in on anybody on our side of the issue? At least once every five years or so?

To MSNBC, Romney's referring to self-deportation was so novel and cloudy that it was a debate "stumble."

Romney's evening, though, was not a flawless one. He seemed to stumble on a question regarding how he would handle illegal immigrants residing in the United States. "Well, the answer is self-deportation, which is people decide they can do better by going home because they can't find work here because they don't have legal documentation to allow them to work here," Romney said, raising eyebrows if nothing else than for the opacity of the concept.

WHY NUMBERSUSA BACKS SELF-DEPORTATION OVER MASS DEPORTATIONS

Deportations are very expensive to the taxpayer. It makes fiscal sense to keep forced deportations to the lowest level necessary to create some credible deterrence. Even at rather high historic deportation numbers the past year, we still deport much less than 5% of the settled illegal population each year. We probably ought to get that at least up to 5%. We should deport all the illegal aliens who are arrested for other crimes and all illegal aliens who, in effect, drop into the laps of law enforcement.

Secondly, all polling and my own personal surveying suggest nothing close to majority American support for the spectacle of mass deportations like Pres. Eisenhower achieved.

To dramatically bring down the illegal population, though, we don't have to engage in highly expensive and politically disruptive mass deportations. The last three years of bad economy has proven that. With a bad jobs climate, more than a million illegal aliens have self-deported.

That is a fact that candidate Rick Santorum noted in agreeing with Romney:

I have stated repeatedly that the main problem with illegal aliens is not that they are in this country but that they are hurting American workers and their families by taking their jobs and depressing their wages -- and hurting American taxpayers by taking far more in services than they ever pay in taxes.

If we deny illegal aliens jobs and taxpayer-supported services, the country suffers minimally if it takes awhile for the illegal aliens to self-deport, buying their own tickets and paying their own shipping.

WHAT ROMNEY SAID

Romney added a wrinkle in his explanation that departs from our NumbersUSA proposals. He indicated he would allow illegal aliens to work here for a short period before heading home.

That would be like an Exit Amnesty that some Senators proposed to no effect a few years ago. Illegal aliens could report for a temporary visa but in so doing identify themselves for deportation if they didn't leave at the promised time. This is not a terrible idea if all the details are worked out carefully. But we would need to know a lot more details. The Associated Press quickly noted that Pres. Bush had tried a small program like that and almost no illegal aliens signed up. However, Pres. Bush had not first taken away the ability of illegal aliens to get jobs unless they signed up.

CBS.com reported about Monday night's debate:

Romney said "we're not going to round people up" but rather, financially struggling undocumented immigrants would choose to return to their home countries of their own volition.

"The answer is self-deportation, which is people decide they can do better by going home because they can't find work here because they don't have legal documentation to allow them to work here," he said. "And so we're not going to round people up."

The former governor explained: "The way that we have in this society is to say, look, people who have come here legally would, under my plan, be given a transition period and the opportunity during that transition period to work here, but when that transition period was over, they would no longer have the documentation to allow them to work in this country. At that point, they can decide whether to remain or whether to return home and to apply for legal residency in the United States, get in line with everybody else. And I know people think but that's not fair to those that have come here illegally."

"Isn't that what we have now?" asked Smith, who pointed out that "If somebody doesn't feel they have the opportunity in America, they can go back any time they want to."

Romney suggested his administration would make it harder for illegal immigrants to get jobs, which would in turn lead them to seek work elsewhere.

"We'd have a card that indicates who's here illegally," he said. "And if people are not able to have a card, and have through an E-Verify system determine that they are here illegally, then they're going to find they can't get work here. And if people don't get work here, they're going to self-deport to a place where they can get work."

He said that then people could "get in line at home" and come to the country legally once they "reached the front of the line."

The fact is that under this plan many of the illegal aliens would in fact be able to come back into the U.S. legally because of close family relationships. But others might be unlikely to ever legally come back because they lack skills that are needed by this country, as it should be.

GINGRICH & SANTORUM JOIN ROMNEY IN OPPOSING DREAM ACT AMNESTY

The news media have been battering Romney for weeks because he said he would veto the DREAM Act Amnesty for youg adult illegal aliens who go to college.

But Monday night, Gingrich and Santorum said they would veto it, too.

Romney and Gingrich said they would be okay with a path to citizenship for illegal aliens who had been brought to the U.S. as children and then served in the military.

But Gingrich's joining what many have called the hardest line of all -- opposition to the DREAM Act -- continues a march away from the more open-borders type stances he was taking last year.

That has to be a big jolt to a number of open-borders groups that have been touting Gingrich as their Republican hope.

Does the Bible Contain Errors?

Often the answer depends on the eye of the beholder. For those determined to undermine Scripture , yes, it does contain errors and no answer will satisfy them. For others, though, careful study and patience usually resolve any problems.

As noted author Josh McDowell explains regarding the Bible : "It is a mistake for the critic to assume...that what has not yet been explained never will be explained. When a scientist comes upon an anomaly in nature, he does not give up further scientific exploration. Rather, he uses the unexplained as a motivation to find an explanation...

"Likewise, the Christian scholar approaches the Bible with the same presumption that what is thus far unexplained is not therefore unexplainable. He or she does not assume that discrepancies are contradictions. And when he encounters something for which he has no explanation, he simply continues to do research, believing that one will eventually be found...

"Like his scientific counterpart, the Bible student has been rewarded for his faith and research. Many difficulties for which scholars once had no answer have yielded to the relentless pursuit of answers through history, archaeology, linguistics, and other disciplines. For example, critics once proposed that Moses could not have written the first five books of the Bible because there was no writing in Moses' day. Now we know that writing existed a couple of thousand years or more before Moses.

"Likewise, critics once believed that the Bible was wrong in speaking of the Hittite people, since they were totally unknown to historians. Now historians know of their existence by way of a Hittite library found in Turkey. This gives us confidence to believe that biblical difficulties not yet explained do have an explanation, and we need not assume that there is a mistake in the Bible " ( The New Evidence That Demands a Verdict, 1999, pp. 46-47).

Contradictions in the Gospels?

As an example of resolving supposed contradictions, let's consider how the four Gospels record the words that Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor, ordered to be placed above Jesus' head at His crucifixion.

Matthew 27:37And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

See All... reads, "This is Jesus the king of the Jews."

Mark 15:26And the superscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

See All... says, "the king of the Jews."

Luke 23:38And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

See All... reads, "This is the king of the Jews."

John 19:19And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.

See All... states, "Jesus of Nazareth, the king of the Jews."

At first glance it might appear none of the authors copied the words on the sign properly. But, when we read each account, we find every one adds a bit more information to the rest. From John we find that Pilate composed the message. From Luke we have additional information as to why these words are different: The inscription was originally written in three languages, Greek, Latin and Hebrew (Luke 23:38And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

So the variation of the wordings logically would have to do with the three languages used as well as the different point of view of each biographer, stressing slightly different aspects of Christ's life and ministry. Adding up the wording of the different accounts, we see that the complete message recorded by the signs was "This is Jesus of Nazareth, the king of the Jews."

None of the Gospel accounts contradicts the others; they complement each other to provide increased understanding. A helpful tool for studying Christ's life and ministry is A.T. Robertson's A Harmony of the Gospels, which provides all four Gospel accounts side by side in chronological order.

Other seeming contradictions in the Bible are related to times and dates. One example of this is that Israel used both a civil and a sacred calendar. The civil year began in the autumn with the month of Tishri, while the sacred year began in the spring with the month of Nisan or Abib. When two writers seem to disagree regarding the timing of a particular event, the seeming discrepancy can be clarified by ascertaining which of the two calendars they are using.

In another matter of timing, John 19:14And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!

See All... seems to disagree with Matthew 27:45Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.

See All.... John described events that occurred before the crucifixion and says that they took place at about the "sixth hour." Matthew agrees with Mark 15:33And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.

See All... and Luke 23:44And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.

See All... when he says darkness covered the land after the crucifixion from the sixth to the ninth hours. Is there a real discrepancy between these accounts?

No! The answer lies in the fact that the Jewish state was then under Roman control and John used the Roman reckoning of time, which began at midnight. The "sixth hour" in John's reckoning was 6:00 in the morning. However, the Jewish method of timekeeping started from that time of the morning, counting it as the first hour of the day. So the sixth hour of the day according to Jewish reckoning was noon.

The crucifixion occurred between the sixth and ninth hours of the day—Jewish time. Thus, the four Gospel accounts do not contradict; instead they complement each other.

Answers may not be readily apparent

What about other scriptural passages that contain apparent discrepancies? Some of these are the result of faulty translations; some Bible translations are simply more accurate than others in rendering particular verses. With other passages the difficulties may be more substantial.

In any case, one should not be alarmed at what appear to be errors in the Bible . There are answers and solutions to these passages that may not be readily apparent. As noted Bible scholar Gleason Archer writes:

"As I have dealt with one apparent discrepancy after another and have studied the alleged contradictions between the biblical record and the evidence of linguistics, archaeology, or science, my confidence in the trustworthiness of Scripture has been repeatedly verified and strengthened by the discovery that almost every problem in Scripture that has ever been discovered by man, from ancient times until now, has been dealt with in a completely satisfactory manner by the biblical text itself—or else by objective archaeological information...

"There is a good and sufficient answer in Scripture itself to refute every charge that has ever been leveled against it. But this is only to be expected from the kind of book the Bible asserts itself to be, the inscripturation of the infallible, inerrant Word of the Living God" ( Encyclopedia of Bible Difficulties, 1982, p. 12).

The Bible is the Word of God , and we can depend upon it as the Book that illuminates the pathway to salvation. It is reliable. The apostle Paul wrote that "all Scripture is given by inspiration of God" (2 Timothy 3:16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

See All...). Jesus said that "the Scripture cannot be broken" (John 10:35If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

This is a promise from Jesus Christ on which we can rely and in which we can place our complete confidence. So, when we read the Bible , let us be assured that we are indeed reading a book that is inspired of God and contains the full backing of the Eternal God who desires to give us the salvation the book promises us.

A little research with commentaries and other Bible helps can usually resolve Bible difficulties.

After Gingrich Win, Florida and Latino Voters Take Center Stage!

The South Carolina primary is over. Now, time for Florida, and Latino voters, to take center stage in an increasingly acrimonious GOP contest.

The stakes in Florida are high after a surprise first place finish in South Carolina by Newt Gingrich on Saturday to stop Mitt Romney's sprint to the GOP nomination. Returns from 95 percent of South Carolina's precincts showed Gingrich with 41 percent of the vote to 27 percent for Romney. Rick Santorum was winning 17 percent and Ron Paul 13 percent.

Many experts believe that the Florida primary could offer the first glimpse of how the 2012 general election will play out.

For the first time, Hispanic Republicans will get their shot to significantly weigh in on the national race for the GOP nominee. The remaining candidates roll into the Sunshine State, albeit licking their wounds and practicing their best Spanish phrases, with everything at stake in the winner take all state that hands its 50 delegates as the top prize.

Florida has traditionally shown little mercy for campaigns that lack organization in one of the largest and most diverse states in the country. Now, all eyes will be on the Gingrich campaign's ability to overcome financial and organizational disadvantages, as he did in South Carolina, to beat out GOP frontrunner Romney.

"We don't have the kind of money at least one of the candidates has. But we do have ideas. And we do have people," Gingrich, the former House speaker, told a cheering crowd according to the Associated Press. "And we proved here in South Carolina that people power with the right ideas beats big money. And with your help, we're going to prove it again in Florida."

Meanwhile, Romney set a defiant tone at the fairgrounds in South Carolina where he said, "I will compete in every single state." He also took jabs at Gingrich. "Our party can't be led to victory by someone who also has never run a business and never led a state."

Romney and former House Speaker Gingrich have already begun bombarding the local Spanish media with advertisements and commercials.

Romney last week launched a Spanish-language television ad, in which his son, in flawless Spanish, tells viewers that his father believes in the American Dream and will make sure that the United States remains a land of opportunity.

Meanwhile, Gingrich, has released radio ads accusing Romney of using Castro’s slogan in a speech while labeling him as anti-immigrant. The Romney campaign derided the ads as “ridiculous.”

The tit-for-tat aside, the January 31st primary, pins two of the remaining heavyweights in an all out battle that will shine the spotlight on candidate stances of import to Latinos – the economy, family, and immigration.

Romney is riding endorsements from some of Florida’s major Latino politicians (e.g. Lincoln Diaz-Balart, Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, and Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart) and has both the organization and the money to run TV advertisements across the state’s 10 media markets – more than Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina combined --an expensive proposition. Romney's campaign has spent 7 million dollars to date on advertising in the Sunshine State, according to the Associated Press.

Gingrich, however, will be riding his newly found political momentum and more moderate stances on immigration in the hopes of pulling yet another upset victory. While, Romney has the support of the aforementioned politicians, speculation has been brewing that Gingrich may get the endorsement from Florida Senator and Cuban American Marco Rubio.

Rubio, a Tea Party favorite, has said he will remain neutral. But Gingrich has hired his former campaign manager Jose Mallea as his new state director. The Miami based campaign strategist helped steer Rubio's come from behind victory in the 2010 Senate race fueling speculation that the hire could be a sign he'll get Rubio's nod.

Regardless, both candidates will also have to compete without the endorsement of popular former Florida governor Jeb Bush who has told Bloomberg News that he will "stay neutral" in the Republican presidential primary. Bush has described Romney and Gingrich as "credible" candidates in a general election with President Barack Obama.

One thing is for certain, the Florida primary will be the first 2012 contest in which Latino voters play a pivotal role – a role that many believe could be decisive come November. Florida’s diverse age and race demographics means that the state is a direct test of the broader appeal of the candidates across social groups.

The state is 22.5 percent Latino and the Cuban American population in Miami-Dade County leans heavily Republican.

Since the Florida Primary is a closed primary, allowing only registered Republicans to vote, the most influential Latino vote will come from the Cuban American population in South Florida. Puerto Ricans, the second most populous group of Latinos that live primarily in Central Florida, traditionally lean more Democratic.

The 2008 general elections emphasize this point. President Obama won 57 percent of Florida's Hispanic vote eclipsing Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) 42 percent. But Obama could not win the Cuban-American vote. McCain won 53 percent to Obama's 47 percent.

If the Republicans hope to change that result, they will need to figure out a way to attract more Latino voters.

Wknd Box Office: Haywire, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, Red Tails, A Dangerous Method

Most of the new movies, this weekend, are ho-hum, but there’s one I enjoyed.

* “Haywire“: I really enjoyed this. It’s a light but stylized thriller, with mild intrigue and lots of fights and action. If you liked Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), you’ll especially like this, as its star is first-time movie actress, Gina Carano, a real life MMA champion. Normally, I hate movies in which petite women, like Palestina Jolie beat up multiple men who are much larger than they are. This is different because Carano is bigger, a little more butch, a lot more muscular, and she’s a lot more believable (except when she beats up the much taller and bigger and very hot Channing Tatum).

Carano is a black-ops secret agent who works for a government contractor. She’s been set up and marked for death by her bosses during a mission in Ireland, and she can’t figure out why. The rest of the movie shows her trying to not only escape more bad guys, but discover what’s actually going on and why. Lots of chases and more. You won’t fall asleep during this one.

The beginning is kind of confusing, as are some of the flashbacks, but it quickly picks up and everything is explained. And, at around 1.5 hours, it’s the perfect length for a movie. When it finished, I wanted more. My kinda movie and especially good for January, when bad movies are usually released to die a quick death.

THREE REAGANS

* “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close“: That author Jonathan Safran Foer, on whose book this movie was based, is an unabashed anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian Jew (who attacked Israel in a book edited by anti-Semite Jew Tony Kushner) isn’t the reason I hated this, but it only added to it. I found this movie incredibly pretentious and annoying, not to mention cruel and a time-waster. It’s mostly a wild goose chase by a too-smart, too-geniusy, annoying young boy. And, as with all Hollywood movies, there is absolutely no reference to who perpetrated 9/11. Apparently that was done in a vacuum by some ghosts who shall not be named. Yup, can’t sully the Muslims. That’s the ticket.

A father (Tom Hanks), who is very close with his young genius son, dies in the World Trade Center on 9/11. His son, who is rude and obnoxious, comes home to verbally abuse the doorman (this is supposed to be funny?). He discovers answering machine messages from his father calling to say what is happening in the Towers. The father also calls to say good-bye, after the son has returned home, and the son doesn’t answer the call, just merely listens. Huh? Then, the son hides the answering machine messages from his grieving mother (Sandra Bullock) and lies, telling her that the father never called. This is what passes for entertainment? Puh-leeze. It was cold and gratuitously cruel, making no discernible point.

Soon, the son discovers a key in a vase in his father’s closet. The key is in an envelope marked “Black,” and the son takes this to mean that his deceased father left him something and that someone with that last name holds the answer to what the key opens. The rest of the movie is mostly a search for that, with the message that all people named, “Black,” regardless of ethnicity or background are all human and to be loved and cherished. We are the world, we are the children . . . blah, blah, blah. Oh, and the boy embarks on most of his search with an old man who he’s told rents a room in his grandmother’s apartment, but he has other suspicions about who the man is. The man does not talk because he’s a survivor of the war. The boy is incredibly rude and mean to the old man, despite his “Can’t we all just get along” baloney with everyone named “Black,” so I guess he didn’t learn the lesson the movie saccharinly preaches to us.

This movie is a senseless time bandit. It stole two hours plus of my life I’ll never get back. Long, slow, and pointless. . . except to buy a self-hating Jewish author another luxe multi-million dollar apartment in New York.

THREE MARXES

* “Red Tails“: George Lucas whined to the media that he couldn’t get this movie made or distributed by Hollywood because it’s about Black people, and Hollywood is racist, so he had to finance it himself. Um, maybe the real reason has nothing to do with racism–a charge that seems trumped up to sell this movie as some sort of chit on the Black side of the race wars. Maybe the real reason this movie went nowhere before Lucas financed it, is because it’s just not a great movie. Not even close. And the script is slack. I like a good World War II movie, regardless of the race of the characters/actors. But this ain’t it.

That’s no knock on the tremendous, heroic accomplishments of the Tuskegee Airmen, a highly-decorated group of segregated Black pilots who fought in World War II and helped America beat the Nazis and the Axis. They were patriots, for sure. But it is a knock on this race-baiting, unrealistic movie that doesn’t do the Tuskegee Airmen proud. The script is long-winded and boring, except for the scenes in the air and a scene of a brave airman who helps White soldiers evade the Nazis. Those are suspenseful. The rest of the movie seems slapped together by someone with an agenda.

Almost all of the characters in this movie are caricatures. Most of the White soldiers and airmen in the movie are racists who completely do a 180 immediately upon seeing the in-the-sky skills of the Tuskegee pilots. Is that realistic? Probably not. Racists generally don’t change that easily. Yes, there was racism and segregation then–those are facts of history. But, while there were one or two decent White commanding officers in the film, the “evil White men” theme made me feel like I was watching the guy’s version of this year’s other raved-about race-baiting movie, “The Help” (read my review). And most of the Black pilots are saints, soon described by White soldiers as “the finest soldier I’ve ever met” and “the best pilots we’ve ever flown with.” That the Tuskegee Airmen were the most highly decorated group of pilots in World War II is a fact (which is presented in the movie). But the hyperbole is ridiculous, as are the disjointed stories that don’t help the movie along.

One pilot is presented as an alcoholic whose drinking nearly costs a pilot his life, but in the air there is no showing that his drinking hurt the other pilot. Another pilot is shown as a romantic who goes to the house of a woman he sees hanging laundry on the roof of her house near the Tuskegee Airmen’s Italian base. The woman and her mother immediately welcome this Black man into their home, and they begin dating, despite the fact that neither speaks the other’s language. How realistic is it that a White Italian mother in the early 1940s would welcome a Black guy to date her daughter? How realistic is it that a Black officer (Terrence Howard) would tell off his racist commanding officer in Washington and get away with it? It was just not accurate of the times or the behavior of the times.

Dialogue featured White airmen saying these lines about the Tuskegee Airmen:

We didn’t lose a single plane [with the Tuskegee Airmen providing them cover]. Well that’s a first.

And:

That’s the best G-d damn flying I’ve ever seen. Drinks are on us.

And:

He’s the best soldier I ever met.

Does this mean that White pilots were subpar and not good soldiers? Or somewhat substandard? That’s the implication. I liked the tagline of the movie, “Courage has no color.” The filmmakers should have taken that to heart. Again, the Tuskegee Airmen were heroes as were many other Blacks serving in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II. But while they were no less heroic than their White counterparts, they were also no more so. To make the latter claim would be racist and inaccurate. They were equally heroic. Period. Racism then doesn’t justify reverse racism now.

And the movie was predictable. I figured out a mile away which guy would be dead by movie’s end and which one would return alive. And other than that and the scenes in the sky, there just wasn’t much there.

I’d have liked to see what happened after World War Ii when the soldiers returned home and how they were treated. That might have been more interesting. Some went home to tremendous racism, others went home and became successes, and others, themselves, like deceased corrupt Detroit Mayor Coleman Young, came home to be racists against Whites and race-baiters themselves. (Young famously supported the boycott of apartheid South Africa, while secretly diverting public funds to obtain his own personal stash of South African Krugerrands.) That would have been an interesting flick. But this movie didn’t tell those stories. It was just a bore.

One plus: the movie was ultimately patriotic. But even the scenes in which the Black pilots killed Nazis–which should have been fulfilling–weren’t all that thrilling. And that’s the fault of a bad movie and a bad script, not Hollywood “racism.” If anything, the racist constructs in the film seemed posed to breed more racism . . . not against actual racists in the 1940s but everyone else in 2012.

I’m thankful for the service and feats of the Tuskegee Airmen. But not so thankful for this movie.

ONE REAGAN

* “A Dangerous Method“: This weird movie is the story of the mentoring love-hate relationship between two pioneers of psychiatry and psychoanalysis, Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud, focusing mostly on Jung (Michael Fassbender) and his bizarre extramarital relationship with one of his patients (Keira Knightley), who goes on to become a psychiatrist herself. While it’s supposed to be based on fact, it seemed more obsessed with showing Jung and his paramour engaged in violent sex with him slapping her rear. Not entertaining. And it wasn’t enlightening in any way, and was very slow. Not for me, nor likely for you. And the point of this movie was . . .? I have no idea, other than to take your $10 and two hours.

How Credible Is Christianity Today?

Christianity is no longer accorded the level of trust and credibility it once held in Western civilization. The unpersuaded see it as having few positive distinctions from all other religions.

Whether Christian, Buddhist, Shinto, Islamic, Hindu, etc. (a choice of hundreds of major religious groups and thousands of minor ones are available) most religions seem to have one thing in common. In their ranks one can find a core of people dedicated to doing good things for others. In this regard, Christianity is not unique.

But there is also the negative side of Christianity. Corruption and scandals undermine its credibility just as they do other religions. Numerous books chronicle the rancorous and sometime scandalous disagreements that have divided Christianity. Other books detail the sins committed by some of its leading figures. And from the news media we hear or read almost daily about some current corruption that is plaguing its ranks.

How much confidence can we have in the validity of this religion in light of its troubled history? Consider these relevant facts.

Shortly after all of the apostles' writings were completed and added to the Bible (near the end of the first century) Christianity began experiencing internal controversies. The debates and doctrinal modifications that followed led to significant diversity in its teachings. By the fourth century, after it had transformed its teachings sufficiently to be accepted in the Roman Empire's social and political structure, it became the state religion.

This expanded the power of the church in Rome dramatically. In a short while the church was dominating the state. It justified its newly found status with the doctrine of two swords—the church (the spiritual sword) claimed superiority over the state (the secular sword).

By the early part of the sixteenth century a considerable number of people in Europe began to challenge the moral laxity and other abuses approved or allowed by the ecclesiastical hierarchy in Rome. These "protesters" were labeled as heretics. The root of this word means a choice— signifying that these people had made an open choice to no longer trust or accept the beliefs of the church hierarchy. State sponsored Christianity was thrown into a crisis.

When Rodrigo Borgia ascended to the office of Pope—as Pope Alexander VI—Martin Luther was only 9 years old. Luther later became the pivotal leader of the "Protestors"—later called Protestants—who were attempting to reform Christianity through the movement now known as the Protestant Reformation.

But instead of those reforms uniting the Christian religion, scores of splits occurred in the years that followed. Hundreds of "Christian" denominations sprang up. Amid this diversity each denomination has experienced enormous difficulty in living up to its own tenets and teachings.

Within the greater body of Christianity its shortcomings and divisions are played down for seemingly two reasons. Denominations quickly recognized that their membership would probably drop drastically if they insisted that everyone associated with them had to pledge full compliance with all of their tenets. Their second choice, the one most settled for, was that a few good deeds are better than none at all. They accepted the reality that only a minority—often a small minority—of their members would actually practice sincerely all they teach.

Current surveys of the practices of those who claim to be Christians indicate that they often vary greatly from the tenets of the denomination to which they belong. And they differ even more with the teachings of the Bible . These surveys indicate that most of today's professing Christians believe that truth is relative and that they can trust their own feelings and opinions more than the teaching they hear preached.

Christianity is a religion at odds with itself. Within it are many sincere, well meaning people who do the best they know how to do in living a decent life that includes loving and serving others. But when the history of Christianity is examined honestly, much is to be desired of the example and commitment of the vast majority of its members—and often of its leaders. It is little wonder that so many doubt its credibility.

This brings us to a crucial question. What were Jesus Christ's expectations for those who would make up that body of people—that Church— that He promised to build? His promise was, "... I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it" Matthew 16:18And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

See All...). He also promised, "Therefore by their fruits you will know them" (Matthew 7:20Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

See All...). Are the fruits of Christianity today all that Jesus had in mind?

Echo Your Support for the Keystone XL Pipeline: Secure, North American Energy

In the face of high prices at the fuel pump and global events that threaten oil supply, the United States has the opportunity to actually do something about it. The Keystone XL pipeline, which will carry 700,000 barrels of oil per day from our ally, Canada, as well as from the Dakotas, Montana, and Oklahoma to Gulf Coast refineries, will mean greater national security, a stable fuel supply, and economic growth in the US.

Before this vital project can proceed, the Department of State must issue a Presidential Permit to allow the pipeline to cross from Canada into the United States. After years of environment review, the Department of State concluded that no significant issues exist that should prohibit this project from moving forward. Now, the Department needs to hear why this project is in the nation’s best interest – the final step in the permit’s review process.

Take Action: Please write Secretary Clinton and tell her that increased energy security and economic growth are clearly good things for this country. The Administration must grant the President Permit as expeditiously as possible so Americans can realize these tremendous benefits.

New Mexico Governor to Push for Driver's License Bill in 2012 Session

New Mexico Governor to Push for Driver's License Bill in 2012 Session

In the upcoming 2012 session, the state legislature in New Mexico will revisit the issue to repeal a 2003 bill which allowed illegal immigrants to obtain drivers licenses in the state. New Mexico is one of three states that allows illegal immigrants to obtain driver's licenses. Since 2003, more than 80,000 foreign nationals have been issued driver's licenses.

Governor Susana Martinez is the major force behind the repeal and Rep. Andy Nunez (I-Hatch) will sponsor the bill this year.

Martinez has repeatedly said that allowing the undocumented to be issued driver's licenses has made the state a magnet for foreign criminals who want to get driver's licenses to have U.S. identification. Plus, the governor points to polls that show a large majority of New Mexicans support the repeal.

"It will be indentical to last year's bill," Nunez said in an interview.

The bill from the 2011 session proved to be controversial, contentious and a bitterly-fought issue for the state legislature.

Last year the House passed Nunez's repeal bill, but only after using the rare process of "blasting" the bill out of a committee that had tabled it. Tabling in committee is a frequent method of killing a bill without a floor vote. "Blasting" takes the bill out of the committee and directly on the floor. After two days of grueling debate on the floor, the House voted 42-28 to pass the bill.

When the bill came to the senate, the senators voted to amend it almost beyond recognition. The senate version of the bill would have kept the current licensing system but would have toughened penalties for fraudulently trying to obtain a driver's license. Also, immigrants would have had to renew their licenses every two years.

The House balked, and after some back and forth between the chambers, the bill died.

Nunez predicts that the bill will pass the house in the 2012 session, but once again supporters will have to 'blast' it out of committee. Therefore, all eyes will be on the Senate, where there are re-elections fears, as all Senate seats are up for election this year. The re-election factor will flip voted in the Senate.

Sen. Steve Fischmann (D-Las Cruces), who voted against the repeal last year, said last week that he might support Nunez's bill this time around. Fischmann says many of his constituents overwhelmingly in favor of the repeal.
